I have a 96 grand cherokee with 46k miles on it and it runs great. I love the 4.0 and I will never get rid of that engine, but if I ever do decide to I might put the 345 HEMI in it or it might be cheaper to buy another ZJ with a 318 xD. The 4.0 isnt fast but slow and steady wins the race
@602zeke Wish it was that simple, if it was I would just drop a Hemi in it. Anyways its broke down now. The fan relay went out, because of that the radiator blew up and the engine over heated causing my head to crack. SOL.
@602zeke yeah and a million dollars that 4.0 will last 100,000 miles more than that v8 4.0 are for reliability not a dam sports car so while your spending money on your jeep just know that people like me are driving around in our lovely 4.0 hahahahahahahahaha
@hondarecon2005 Thank you for not being ignorant. The 4.0 was the best Jeep engine ever in production, the only thing I would ever consider swapping it for is a Hemi if it wasn't so expensive.
@razorbanditz no, it's wheel spacers, they help prevent wheel rub, and the tires were stock 225/75/16 in this video. I would not recomend wheel spacers to anyone though, I've had to change out both front hubs within 4 months because of them.
as said in the description this jeep had quite a few problems so it isn't top notch. I have exactly the same car in perfect condition and it runs from 0-60 in the low 7 seconds. I have a video of 7.5 on youtube
@ninja69247 I have the inline 6 and it does 0-60 in the low 7s. Go to my channel and check out the 0-60 vid. It's there and it's real and its not downhill and its not a v8.
on new spark plugs, wires and coil rail assembly and still the same issues. Very disappointing in Jeep/Chrysler, my other vehicle has nearly twice the miles and never had as many issues as this Jeep.
im having the same issue too, my used to be fast and is just having more issues, I heard a rumor that jeep stands for Just Empty Every Pocket and Im starting to believe that now.
@willcraigle Yeah its true, at least compared to my other vehicle. I had alot issues and have replace almost everything except the engine, a few weeks ago acceleration was good, the engine was running smooth and MPG were better then the ratings {after spending alot of money on tranny repairs} then a few days ago I go for a drive with the A/C and the power was gone, struggle on the highway just to mantain 60MPH check engine light was on and the MPG dropped 3MPG. I just wasted time and money cont
The real problem with this engine IMO is the automatic transmission only being 4 speed.. Im sure if Jeep ever made them as a manuall 5 or 6 speed the engine could put off alot more HP
Was 80 mph the fastest you could go ? If so thats one sluggish Jeep... My 98 can go way higher then that and its the same engine... Also i hope you dont do this all the time, because when the RPM's get above 4k you can dmg the engine if you do it alot.. 4.0 does not like high RPM
@ninja69247 same thing with my Jeep have 2 misfiring cylinders and other issues pain in the rear-end just spent a bunch of money rebuilding the tranny only a month ago. mine has just under 100,000 miles. has your MPG gone down significantly?
@ninja69247 just fix the misfiring cylinder and you'll have a great car. It's probably a spark plug, or coil or something. If you need any help with any other problems you can pm me because I do all the work on my jeep.
@drippinblood28 fixed the misfire a long time ago, it's still slow as hell, i randomly lose coolant and i have almost no power, im almost sure that i have a cracked head but my oil appears normal so idk
@ninja69247 As for the coolant leaks those things happen everywhere at around this mileage. I had the same problem on mine, it pissed me off so much. A couple of things went wrong, the radiator had a leak in it (sometimes happens near the ends). If you replace it make sure you don't get a shitty plastic one, get the original one. Also check all the hoses, i've had a few leaks from there and one time a goddamn mechanic attached a hose with a rubber band.
@ninja69247 If the head is cracked you will always be losing coolant. Since it isn't that bad you probably have a miniscule crack in the head, which means coolant is going into oil and other places. Sometimes you can take off the oil cap and watch the coolant flowing in through a crack in the gasket if you watch carefully with a headlight you will se some green liquid. The car might be burning oil so the extra coolant in the oil might be getting burned up which is why oil pressure is good
@ninja69247 also, do you still have the check engine light? If so, just turn the ignition on (not the car) three times in a row quickly and watch for the problem codes where the mileage usually shows up. If there are none it says "done" and if there are codes then they start with "p" and then some number. WHen you get them tell me and I'll tell you what they mean or look them up at wjjeeps.com Good luck man!
@1ownjoo2 I never take my 01 past 3,200 RPM, a few times I took it to a tad over 4k and it sounded like the engine was going to blow. I think past 3,500 RPM these engine are done and work real hard after that. I heard alot blew these engine redlining them. These engines don't live high RPM's at all.
i wanna drop an srt8 motor in mine because wjs are just so light it was just kill anything

@mannysamjam I would but theres too much work involved in putting those in. At this point I'm saving to get a 4.9 L6 stroker pushing over 300 hp.

@watso64
Well the engine gets all its torque around 3,000 RPM. Its max HP tho is around 4600 RPM, at least according to the 4.0 engine specs
1ownjoo2 1 year ago
@watso64
Forgot to mention the 4600 rpm makes sense, because if you watch the video you will notice it shift once it hits around 4500 Rpm.

seem a little slow, I havn't done a 0-60 on my 01 but I think its a little faster. course it has fresh oil though.
