@acrovader he still makes good music. amazing music. in my opinion, eels is much better then his solo work, as he has matured as a musician and human being
@acrovader cynical? i dont see that at all.. and it is definitely not bland. some songs are slow.. but that doesnt necessarily mean bland. i find his early solo work to equate to typical late 80s pop music.. but to each his own i suppose
I'm reading 'things the grandchildren should know' and i'm at the part where this song comes on the radio, and this is my first time listening to it. it's magical reading this and listening to this.
@SuperMazu I was joking and refering to another song titled "Hello Cruel World", It a pop hit by James Darren in 1961. The first line is "Hello cruel world, I'm off to join the circus..." I thought I had clicked on that song.
I bought his debut CD before Eels came...I did not know E, but from the first listening, i was convinced that this man must become famous soon....I finally found that my ears were right!
THANK YOU FOR POSTING BROTHER!!! I had this on tape & flat wore it out. I just loved the lyrics through the entire album but to this day, while I love the melody as well, for me these are still some of my all-time favorite lyrics ever. "So Big Brother never came, Howdy Doody gets the blame" As originally creative as they are insightful & brilliant!!
Thanks for posting. Hearing lady gagme et al. on radio THANK GOD for REAL ARTISTS!
Been looking for this tape, cd, anything since I saw a video in 6th grade. I vcred it and learned the lyrics to sing in church. Hymnals boring. you rock poster..
I miss little record shops and this kind of music. My local record store gave me a poster and bumper sticker when I bought this album. Put the sticker on my record player, its still there.
This is one of the first songs on a mix tape I made back in '92 off of the radio. lol I've always loved the song but could never find it anywhere. So, thanks for uploading it.
Thanks for uploading this song. Was reading his autobiography and discovered he did a solo album in the early 90's. Sounds very like something that he would record today as the Eels. Instantly recognisable voice.
@raggdwood Agreed. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say Electro-Shock Blues is the best album I've ever heard.

Oh! I got it, @Ladybug1923!
You mean the song which starts with the melody "Do-Si-#La-Si-#La-La-#So-So, hello cruel world" with woman's voice?
Thank you for a correction!

I met E back in '97. Still have the signed shirt. He was very quiet and reserved. I highly recommend reading 'Things The Grandchildren Should Know'.

Yes, a rare bargain ,indeed(laugh).
For the Brian Wilson comparison,
Brian is famous and kind like a cult hero in Japan, so the promoting people thought that it was a good idea to sell this CD from a newcomer!

I picked up his CD in the second hand CD shop in Tokyo. There was a promoting comment "'90s Brina Wilson!" in Japanese words.
