  • @raggdwood Agreed. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say Electro-Shock Blues is the best album I've ever heard.

  • @Thizzpwnt, thank you for a comment!

This song should have been a hit, I really think.

  • Love this song

  • @505kant, thank you for a comment!

It should have been a hit song, I really think.

  • How can my opinion be wrong?

  • This is back when he made good music.

  • @acrovader, thank you for a comment!

I like his recently stuff (Eels) too!

  • @acrovader you're wrong.

  • @raggdwood

    How are you right?

  • @acrovader he still makes good music. amazing music. in my opinion, eels is much better then his solo work, as he has matured as a musician and human being

  • @raggdwood I beg to differ. I find the new music too cynical and bland. But whatever..

  • @acrovader cynical? i dont see that at all.. and it is definitely not bland. some songs are slow.. but that doesnt necessarily mean bland. i find his early solo work to equate to typical late 80s pop music.. but to each his own i suppose

  • @acrovader he makes awesome music man

  • I'm reading 'things the grandchildren should know' and i'm at the part where this song comes on the radio, and this is my first time listening to it. it's magical reading this and listening to this.

  • @DrownedByTheStone, thank you for a comment!

A happy new year from Japan!

  • @DrownedByTheStone same here :D

  • @DrownedByTheStone Me too =)

  • I thought he was going to sing "Hello cruel world, I'm off to join the circus."...whoops :-)

  • @Ladybug1923, thank you for a comment!

Because I am Japanese, I frequently misheard the lyrics....

  • @SuperMazu I was joking and refering to another song titled "Hello Cruel World", It a pop hit by James Darren in 1961. The first line is "Hello cruel world, I'm off to join the circus..." I thought I had clicked on that song.

I like this song, kind of Beatlish.

  • Oh! I got it, @Ladybug1923!

You mean the song which starts with the melody "Do-Si-#La-Si-#La-La-#So-So, hello cruel world" with woman's voice?

    Thank you for a correction!

  • 20 years...no! There is no way....let's call it 19. The first time that I heard this man.....

  • @theresalynn36, thank you for a comment!

I bought his debut CD before Eels came...I did not know E, but from the first listening, i was convinced that this man must become famous soon....I finally found that my ears were right!

  • omg...

I have been looking for the very few songs like these that I havent heard by the Eels. Damn this song has made my day ;-)

  • @sccizsor333, thank you for a comment!

I always think that this song is a really strong tune for an opening of the album!

  • I met E back in '97. Still have the signed shirt. He was very quiet and reserved. I highly recommend reading 'Things The Grandchildren Should Know'.

  • @5298michelle , thank you for a comment!

I have not met E, but I have been thought that he is the both quiet and emothional guy...thank you for letting me know that my guess was right!

  • kate Bornstein wrote a book called hell cruel world.

    its really good.

  • @sydmarissa, thank you for a info!

  • its a good book too!

  • i have not heard this song since 1992. ...brings back some memories..

  • @mrGeneMC, thank you for a comment!

I always thought that this song is a really great opener (

    for CD).

  • THANK YOU FOR POSTING BROTHER!!! I had this on tape & flat wore it out. I just loved the lyrics through the entire album but to this day, while I love the melody as well, for me these are still some of my all-time favorite lyrics ever. "So Big Brother never came, Howdy Doody gets the blame" As originally creative as they are insightful & brilliant!!

Thanks for posting. Hearing lady gagme et al. on radio THANK GOD for REAL ARTISTS!

    Peace

  • @redfishradical, thank you for a comment!

From the moment I first heard this opening tune on his CD, I have been hooked!

  • @redfishradical -- "Bad and beautiful and strange, monkeys dancing in a cage, what the hell, hello cruel world."

I love the lyrics, too. You're making me cry!

Hello cruel world! I'm here again!

  • @Phil1stalk, thank you for a comment!

    Yes, that's really cool lyrics!

  • iam reading his book right now. been to the part where he first listen to his voice, this song on radio. brilliant book by the way

  • @herrdanson, thank you for a comment!

The book you mentioned is really interesting to me!

  • Been looking for this tape, cd, anything since I saw a video in 6th grade. I vcred it and learned the lyrics to sing in church. Hymnals boring. you rock poster..

  • @princesskellysue, thank you for a comment!

I suppose that singing this tune in church blows everyone in the church!

  • Thanks for posting this song. I just wish YouTube didn't hve to keep deleting the actual music video.

  • Thank you for a comment, ShamanSamuel!

I wish that the YouTube world wouln not be a real "cruel world".

  • i heard this song an video when me and 1st wife were in the middle of seperating.......aaahhhhbrings back such good memories

  • Thank you for a comment, frippstar47!

Your situation was just fit the words of this song, wasn't it?

  • thanx mazu..............i walk away a pleezed human

  • I miss little record shops and this kind of music. My local record store gave me a poster and bumper sticker when I bought this album. Put the sticker on my record player, its still there.

  • Thank you for a comment, Fitzhugh1975!

I totally agree with you! Funny that the Rosanne Cash's album title called "King's record shop" came into my mind.

  • This is one of the first songs on a mix tape I made back in '92 off of the radio. lol I've always loved the song but could never find it anywhere. So, thanks for uploading it.

  • Thank you for a comment, D7emir!

Sounds like you have especially good taste in music, aren't you?

  • Sounds like you got yourself a rare bargain :)

The Brian Wilson comparison is funny! Guess the record company didn't listen to the CD lol!

  • Thank you for a comment, Jooless99!

    Yes, a rare bargain ,indeed(laugh).

    For the Brian Wilson comparison,

Brian is famous and kind like a cult hero in Japan, so the promoting people thought that it was a good idea to sell this CD from a newcomer!

  • Thanks for uploading this song. Was reading his autobiography and discovered he did a solo album in the early 90's. Sounds very like something that he would record today as the Eels. Instantly recognisable voice.

  • Thank you for a comment, Jooles99!

I picked up his CD in the second hand CD shop in Tokyo. There was a promoting comment "'90s Brina Wilson!" in Japanese words.
