@forku2umf---"I guess you kids are too young to remember he co-starred with "Grampa" (Al Lewis) in "Car 54: Where are you?"
Yes, I know they did. Found that out a few years ago, but it was still even before my time since it was made the year before I was born and ended the year after and I hadn't seen any re runs of it on later television, like I had other more famous 60's shows (Bewitched/Hazel/Brady Bunch)....hahahaha!
What? Ya'll are Fred Gwynn fans and you havent seen "Car 54"? It stared Fred and Al Lewis as New York cops in the early 60's. I'm sure you can search for episodes on hulu or somewhere.
i love the way even though he isnt wearing the make up or clothes that herman wears, he is still in character. he still does all herman's childlike characteristics. i love you fred!!! ♥ ♥ ♥
@ysbaddaden2003 The original Marilyn,Beverly Owen was having "Crying Fits" over her soon to be Hubby cuz she could NOT be with him Every single second of the day... Fellow cast members have vouched for her Strange behaviour on the set... She had to be replaced in December,1964 with Pat Priest... Some people should investigate before shooting down someone elses comments???
Just like Boris Karloff, Fred Gwynne had that really long thin face that is perfect to take on the Frankenstein makeup. Someone today who comes to mind with the same type of face is John Kerry, he would make a great Frankenstein.
That was Louis Nye (1913-2005) who had a recurring role as Sonny Drysdale on "The Beverly Hillbillies" as well as guest starring on other shows. He originated the phrase, "Hi Ho Steverino" when he appeared in the "Man On The Street" sketches on "The Steve Allen Show." back in the 50's.
i went to amazon, and found the munsters action figures. i ordered a herman action figure. it arrived today. it's good. i think i'll order the rest of the figures.
I started buying up the Geronimo Series of action figures and sent the price sky rocketing but managed to snag 3 for myself... so hope you like yours, tho I have the geronimo dolls that I played withnwhile I was watching Munsters!
since i last wrote, i bought a set of all 5 munster action figures from amazon. they're neat, yet they aren't proportionate to each other. the lily figure is about the same size as the herman figure.
The secret to making those action figures increase in value is NOT TO OPEN THEM, keep plastic on... I did it with Happy Meal and Burger kid happy meal stuff and I've not opened some and it's ten years later and they are worth more with closed packaging. Have you oepned packages?
sure i opened them. i didn't get them as an investment. i got them because some of my young relatives and neighborhood kids might like them, especially around halloween. i guess you and i had very different reasons for getting the action figures.
He's Herman Munster to me ALWAYS. I saw episodes of Car 54 and thought he was way too young then! Just like watching Jackie Gleason before he was Ralph...wasn't the same, but what can I say, I love him as Herman!
Fred Gwynne was amazingly handsome:) I remember thinking that the first time I saw this episode when I was a kid, and seeing him without all of the makeup for the first time. I couldn't believe it!
I waited for weeks for them to run it, 'cause I knew at anytime they might just pull it for episodes of Murder she Wrote, which would suck! So I waited, and got it!
He spent a lot of time trapped in some animal form and bitter that his grandaughter didn't marry better.
The entire premise is lame, the dragon "Spot" and supercharged Kitty Cat were ridiculous: But Gwynne, DeCarlo and Lewis pulled it off because they were having so much fun with it.
Herman had childlike joy and optimism. Gwynne and Lewis could make any absurd storyline fun. Kind of like the old Batman show.
Never saw Car 54, but remembered him in this episode one of my favs, and I was so happy they ran it, and now they don't run the series, they replaced it with Andy Griffith show Oy!
My favourite episode. I thought it was so weird at first but his facial expressions are still Herman even without the make-up, so it totally grew on me.
