  • DId Civil Defense personnel truly think this would help?

    Cruel hoax.

Now we've learned what to do: just keep shopping (until oblivion is achieved). Worked for Bush after 9-11, eh?

  • We MUST ALL GET READY, NOW! xD Thumbs up if youre here because you watched Attom Ant "We Must All Get Ready Now" from Cartoon Network

  • the man helping tony is actualy a homosexual, they may appear normal...

  • You won't survive by duck and cover...that's silly.

  • lol my teacher showed this to me at school

  • Any idea where the exteriors were filmed...in NY..?? Somewhere within the five boroughs../

  • Duck under your school desk and look up at the underside and you'll see lots of gum.

  • i wanna know what happen to the monkey

  • @ais422 The monkey was instantly incinerated, then it's ashes were brought in and tried traitorous as commie scum..

  • I'll be damned. This is the sample from the KMFDM song on Don't Blow Your Top. I've wondered about that for years.

  • Wouldn't the flash also make you blind?

  • what about the fallout you didnt tell them about that it can kill you......

  • Get under your desk, put your head between your legs, and kiss your ass goodbye.

  • Cuz' shit, soviet russia hates little children. Schools are their primary target.

  • HOLY SHIT THERES BLACK PEOPLE IN THAT CLASS!

  • oh no the COMMIE Menace

  • The reason these movies were made were to downplay the immense danger these weapons posed. If people knew how destructive they really were maybe they wouldn't have been built.

  • Paranoia - great way to control the uneducated masses. They knew full well that ducking and covering would do nothing to save you from fallout, flying debris, radiation, etc., but they also knew that people were much more naive and unsophisticated back then and would do any ridiculous thing their leaders told them to do. Try that shit nowadays - we'd probably just say "Yeah right, tell us another fairy tale, asshole!"

  • @elc1960 I wish I could agree, but look at Nafta, Cafta, Gatt, 9/11, Vietnam, WWII, and many other things that people either don't understand or don't believe. And the WWII and Vietnam reference I am making is the newly "discovered" knowledge that both were atarted under false pretenses and most people still don't believe that.

  • @robbin505 I am familiar with those things, and I agree with you. Perhaps my remark was a bit simplistic, but paranoia is a big part of how the government keeps us in check, along with "disinformation" (their word, not mine - mine would be "bullshit") and out-and-out lying. Other things you might have mentioned would include the JFK assassination and the whole "homeland security" thing. My guess is that you have seen "The Zeitgeist Movie" (as have I).

  • what do you do when the bomb is dropped RIGHT ON TOP OF YOU!?!?!?

  • An atomic bomb can knock me down oh noes!!!

  • "we must obey, the civil defense worker".......

  • 4:17 "Fucking bombs.. I'm going home"

  • Wow... the 50's were a very strange time. I can't even imagine being terrified that "Ivan's gonna get you Timmy, but as long as you hide under your desk the nukes won't hurt you!"

  • Those kids in the school bus would have been cooked alive in there... Oh duck and cover... You're so funny

  • Now if you live in cali, and north korea launches a nuke, ducking and covering wont do anything for you!

  • there is no way to survive a nuclear bomb by ducking in cover, they;d be killed by the 7000 degrees or the 400 mph shock wave.

  • Duck and cover...and kiss your ass goodbye.

  • Hey I've seen this b4 in my social studies class!! I 4got what we were learning (I think it was old Britain) but our teacher showed us this from her PowerPoint! Wow

  • All children must be taught to obey strangers in trenchcoats wearing hats shading their faces from view.

  • this is no laughing matter. monkey suicide by dynamite sticks is a growing concern today.

  • WTF was a monkey doing with a stick and dynamite? seriously folks when a monkey comes after you with a dynamite tied to a stick, duck and hide like the cowardly lot you are. don't think of living life to the fullest. no fuck that shit.

  • that monkey is a cocksucker

  • It's too bad the Japanese never saw this film.

  • so that monkey just commited suicide

  • heh ya for the cause

  • @DrJeff4000 It's called terrorism.

  • lolol this is the psa that was used for the fallout 3 nuclear montage!

  • @gamepro217 I wish Bethesda could have compile every 1950's PSA like this to advertise Fallout games, that might have been cool.

  • That's right,kids.Go out like a bitch.

  • Remember, YOU ARE INVINCIBLE UNDER YOUR DESK!

  • DAMN STRAIGHT

  • @calapanpo So I guess that means that if the atomic bomb goes off while the principal is getting "special attention" from his secretary under his desk, he'll get fried and she'll survive the blast? Wow, that's good to know! Attention secretaries: give your bosses lots of head under his desk so that if the bomb is launched you'll live to blow another day!

  • @calapanpo OF COURSE your just going to fly with the whole fucking school in the magic land of radioactivtopia ;D

  • Notice how they forgot to talk about the effects of the radiation in the fallout.

  • I like how it shows the black kid center stage when he says "There are dangers all around us"

  • @ :26: That monkey is not too bright.

  • And the funny thing is, I'll be freaking out during 4:18

They're just walking into the house like zombies lol

  • I was watching this in class and we were all cracking up when the people freaked out and fell to the floor xD

Ducking and cover? I would run into a nearby house and down into the basement instead of ducking and covering outside. Like that's gonna save me from an atomic bomb xD

  • No wonder young adults started living as if there were no tomorrow, in the '60s.

  • ducking and covering wouldnt do anything lol

  • Oh yeah and ducking and covering well save you from the atomic bomb. I guess back in the 50's we thought it would work.

  • Civil Defense work X Tony MY NEW OTP!! >D

  • And so Bert lived a lonely, paranoid until finally succumbing to tetanus.

  • Because, you know, if a monkey chases you with a stick of dynamite, you always duck and cover.

  • litteraly, its a baboom LOL

  • the monkey blew himself up...

  • i don't think duck and cover could really save you from a bomb...

  • Duck and Cover isn't going to save Bert from someone throwing him off a cliff.

  • Yeah flying glass can be dangerus lol

  • atta boy, Tony!!

  • That is subjective... besides, do mean American society, politics, morals, way of life, or the way we eat our applesauce? And again, there is not much you can do in the event of being nuked

  • Most people who I know who lived in the 50's said they knew these films where stupid.

  • Honestly were Americans so scared of Soviets?

  • It can burn whole buildings...

  • HAHAHAHAHA....

Jedi mind tricks use a clip of this song in "uncommon valor"

  • The irony of this is that you will still prolly die from the blast anyway. So these things dont help you

  • well fucking duh!

  • I love how none of these things will save you lol.

  • Since when??? All you have to do is duck and cover

  • You forgot step 3 of that. Wait to be incinerated. You'd need to duck and cover in a deep, well made basement to survive this, and if the initial blast doesn't kill you, the radiation will.

  • Its a 1950 US government trying to give the children a false sence of security.

  • No-one get's taught anything like this anymore and the threat is bigger than then.

  • It would have been so much safer back in the ninteen fiftys. Their lives look so idyillic..

  • why was the atomic bomb such a big deal or threat to the united states or any other country

  • What?!

  • what do you mean "WHAT?!" why was it a big deal? do you know?

  • I grew up with this stuff until about 10 years old. We are the same age, how did you not know about any of this stuff?

  • The US was in the Cold War with Russia at that point. Considering Russia was a world superpower back then, an atom bomb would be pretty likely.

  • I lvoe it, who knew bricks, wood and lead paint would protect you from an Atom bomb and its radiation.

  • remember kids.. duck n' cover!!

  • what the fuck was that monkey doing with a bomb on a stick???

  • watching these people jump out of cars and off bikes is just like watching an old action movie.

    "BOMB STRIKE- GET DOWN!!!"

*flies out of the building and onto a car... FOR SAFETY!*

  • I wonder if when someone set off a flash bulb to take a candid picture in that era, people just fell over like Burt...

    Funny to imagine.

  • THIS IS SO FUNNY!

  • At 1:38 Adolf Hitler slides down the pole

  • I mean 1:48 :P

  • ... a thin cloth can save you from a burn, even a news paper... ROFL!!! LOL!

  • That is actually true.

  • yes provided your the right distance away...

Its because the intense burst of light is more powerful than the sun and without the atmosphere's protection (like UV rays have to pass through from the Sun) our skin can't handle the amount of energy.

  • The monkey at the start was an idiot. Dynamite dangling from a stick? He was obliterated!

    He should've ducked and covered.

  • Unfortunatly the heat generated from the A-Bomb can infiltrate any area since the level of heat would be very high and even if you docked and covered it wouldn't protect you from the radiation generated from the A-Bomb which is an unfortunate truth indeed but I love all this retro stuff so much and at least Ducking and covering is at least something to do to try and save one self from the A-Bomb though which is a good thing to know. :) Gotta love this retro stuff! I know I still do! ^^

  • Hahahahaha! I remember this as a kid.

In the early 70's, our local FD would do test signals on Saturdays in case of nuclear "issues" - my Mom told me that the FD was simply "testing their fire alarms."

    D & C my ass-it's a moot point.

  • Check out the kid picking his nose at 8:30

    Wonder what's for lunch?

  • You might be dead or dying from X-rays, gamma rays and infrared rays, BUT REMEMBER TO DUCK ANA COVER IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY BEEN VAPORIZED.

  • We're sooo much more sophisticated now. We have Cipro, Duct Tape, and reactionary politicians who keep us all safe.

  • ...this seems to be during my grandfathers time...intresting...you could buy a lot with only 25 cents.

  • ha, duck, cover, and kiss your butt goodbye. I cant believe they actually told kids to do this. Should have told the kids "make sure youre right with God because when the bomb hits, youre gonna meet Him."

  • at this time they didn't know that the radiation from the bomb could kill people. But today, We know that if a bomb strikes and you are outside when it happens... you're pretty much screwed.

  • Yeah, you want to make sure there's a good 5 miles between you and the bomb, at the very least, otherwise, lol you're screwed.

  • I am SO glad that I wasnt in this era! If I had to do all this, i would be scared everyday of my childhood life
