You are really cute. :-) I disagree about the stereotypes though. Any stereotype has to be recognized as just that. But they are not exclusive to gays... There are stereotypes about every category of people. And, well, "stereotypes are such time savers," (see link). That doesn't mean that they apply to everyone within that category, but the stereotypes were established for a reason. Just don't abuse or over-analyze them, of course.
My webshow (FRIDAYS WITH A HOMO) has been struggling since I started it almost a year ago. Averaging....well, hardly any views! I had another webshow that was way more successful, but this one (the one I am posting this comment with) is much more fun to do.

Only the normal ones. I do however disagree with left handedness tho. Living a left handed life style-it just aint normal. But if thats how a person chooses to live then that's their choice, just don't shove it in my face or try to teach my kids about that shit.
Honestly, most Gay Guys who do act like the stereotypical gay man...is because people sit there and say gay people are like this and like that....so maybe some gays are like, well then...i should be like that!!! I know for a long time i thought that...and finally after turning 25...I realized....i need to be me and stop following the crowd!!!
@TysonC1986 Nice theory, but what evidence do you have to support this? You talk as though what you say is already an established fact (as oppose to what you imagine).
Yeah but that purple gay clock on your night stand-your sooooo living a purple clock life style. It TOTALLY defines who you are as a person. Mine is black with red digits. You know, like normal people. So's my boyfriends.
~You clearly stated that you don't have certain traits and you also clearly stated that there's nothing wrong with having those traits they're just not you...so to the people watching this video and are bothered ( ie xtacee1990 & any others...) excellent video! I have been telling my other gay friends this very idea! On TV, we are painted as effeminate, silly, petty, and many other negatives. WE are not like this. There are men out there you would never know was gay unless they told you! Some of us are very masculine, normal, smart and a lot of other good things.
Denis, je t'adore, mais je dois être en désaccord. Je suis immorale, j'étais une reine de travesti, mais je suis très masculine. Stereotypes are confining and not correct 100% of the time, but they have a basis in truth, unfortunately. The main thing is that I've never been defined by being homosexual. I am who I am, so stereotypes don't bother me. People will always be ignorant, so you just have to love yourself and be happy you don't fit the mold.
yeah how can you explain to these idiot non thinking people that sexual orientation and gender identity/gender roles are totally different aspects of sexuality? I would love to know what the average USA parent does to their children that the country is still so homophobic, even people who are actually "queer".
Mr. Denactor: I can add to some of what you said this proud statement: I don't like show tunes--except for a FEW as sung by the Glee cast members.
There's a stereotype that's fancies itself the very opposite of those you describe: Some (not all, by any means) gay gym rats who actually think that because they have great muscles NOBODY WILL EVER KNOW FIGURE OUT THEY'RE GAY! News flash, boys: We can still tell. And we LIKE that you're gay! A lot!
didn't you have a video on how much you hated homophobic gays? I watched that video, and five minutes later, i found this video! Why are you being two faced?
I have let myself get guided by these stereotypes for so long, that when I act girly I ask myself, "WTF are you doing Josh!?" 'Cuz I don't feel that is me. Stupid stereotypes made me act this way. I guess I am to be blamed, too. Anyway, nice video dude, I liked it alot. You're really hot. AND VIVA THE GAY COMMUNITY! ^_^
What I think is - is that you are very young and have a lot of life to go through yet. I know you said that folks that did manifest these stereotypes were ok, but I'm not getting the feeling from you. Guys like you (and me as well) that aren't 'gay-acting' shouldn't wear this as such a badge of honor. It was the drag queens that essentially started our movement and then some guys like you (and me) slowly, VERY SLOWLY began to come out to family and friends-but not nearly enough yet
@jhr459 So when you are hurling around the subtle epithets against gay stereotypes, it would do you well to remember just how we got so far and who 'dragged' (pun intended) us here. I do think it is amusing that when people talk about gay stereotypes, they never seem to include the hyper masculine ones-just the ones that will make mom and dad cringe a bit. And yeah, draketheclaw, we are awesome but we got here on the backs of some fairies and now many wish they would just go hide away now.
I completely agree with you. I'm gay, and I'm not overly effeminate...and I wouldn't be caught dead on a pride float, lol. I don't mind pride festivals, but I think the parades where guys are half-naked and sexualized are very counterproductive to the tolerance and acceptance of gay people in general. People associate all of us with the images they see in the street or on Fox"News"
Hey, I like guys too. Love them, in fact. And I happen to share your stated likes and dislikes. Plus I do NOT like Britney Spears. Anyhow, I feel the same way about stereotypes. And yet ... there are guys who do match those descriptions. They are "stereotypically gay" - so they're visible. And as a consequence, they get attacked, beaten up, bullied. Meanwhile, as a stereotype "conventional straight-acting man", I pass by unnoticed. And to tell the truth, I'm not proud of that.
Hahaha awesome video i feel the same way altough i am still in the closet but does anyone know how to send a privat message? I cant seem to findout how
Nice work... nothing worse than having others think you might be a walking cliche. You're just all kinds of awesome. I wish I knew some guys around here that were more like you. BTW... you've had me addicted to Katy Perry's "Last Friday Night" for a month now. Love it. Take care!
I think the most important part of this video is letting people know that it's ok if they fit those stereotypes. I think gay men just need to understand that there's no one way to be gay and you can be yourself. For some people that's being "fierce" and "fabulous," and for others it's just being the boy next door.
My mother(/mothers) is gay, and it's amazing to see how wrong people are about the whole situation. I have been raised in the same way any other persons child has, I just have two mums (+ a dad).
Especially with people around my age group, they mostly always think about the stereotyped "Gay/Lesbian"....
But to be honest, it changes nothing. Everyone is human, and by someone saying that their gay doesn't mean that their whole being changes, they just like the same sex. =]
It's funny because a lot of people can't tell I'm gay until I say and, especially girl, after that I think they really want to believe the stereotypes are true and I'll give them fashion tips and watch chick flicks and a bunch of other stuff I'm not remotely interested in.
Great video with an awesome message. So right, I hate gay stereotypes. I prefer to define myself as a guy that just happens to like other guys. The word "gay" just has too much tied into it.
Totally! This is why I hate terms like "lipstick lesbian" and "straight-acting gay". Like only straight women want to wear make-up and look feminine. Or that all gay men prance around and lisp. It stems from the fear that gay people might be among the 'normals' and they won't even know about it! The horror! The horror!
DEJA-VU....thats said, i compleatly agree, stereo types are so stupid...sadly i fit a few of them, but still if we let those ignorant knuckle draggers lable all of us with them then we lose who we are and become what they want us to be...forgive my..idk what to even call it
my friends and family don't believe i am gay since i am the opposite of a feminine gay and i don't fit the sterotype at all. all my friends thought i was gonna start dressing in drag and drinking cosmos and whatnot but im still the same person i've always been :D
As a 42 year old straight woman that loves my gays, I am so proud of you. I think that people should be allowed to be who they are without a label being slapped on them. You can't judge all gays by what you see a few do. Not all gays are slutty, my GBF wasn't. He passed away not long ago but I continue to support the LGBTQ community and stomp on homophobia and people who label you guys at every opportunity. Nothin' but love for ya. <3 Be who you are and love yourself is all I have to say.
As soon as this video started playing, i was like.. ROONEY! You EFFING ROCK! dude. i love this video. I understand completely and yeah, stereotypes are fine but it's annoying how some people think that everyone are what the stereostypes are like.
There's a flaw in your thinking: the problem is not that those "Stereotypes" exist, but that for some reason they're assumed to be Negative. You weren't afraid to come out "because of effeminate stereotypes", but because those stereotypes are used as excuses for being anti-gay by straight bigoted types. This is something our community needs to address and work on - not "destroying stereotypes" but destroying the idea that they're inherently negative. It's misogyny and disguised transphobia
You're not describing stereotypes, you're describing the way some gay people really are and that's just a reality. A "stereotype" sociologically applies more or less accurately to about one third of a group, and then become negative or dysfunctional when they are applied to all members of a group. I never met any feminine gays until I was in my 20's and then I met many I really liked and some I greatly admired for their bravery and generosity. Even so-called "stereotypes" are individuals.
Yeah, we may not like stereotypes, but we humans have a biological predisposition for forming them, so they ain't going anywhere! I think some of things you mention are more misconceptions than stereotypes (like the cross-dressing thing)
i don't like the gay stereotypes they're destructive and unhealthy. it annoys me to know that alot of people will think immediately that all gay guys are trannys or gender benders. we are ordinary people too.
Nice video Denis. I don't really like the stereotypes. I don't do certain things just because I am gay, (minus like you said, liking guys :P) I do them because I am...me.
Anyone gay or straight can fit into either of those categories.... as gay people we just have to accept each other and not point out other gay flaws. Obv if you are gay you are going to be feminine... some way more than others but we should still accept each other first :)
@Julianmarion I totally agree! All I'm saying is that I don't want to be labelled as something that has nothing to do with me. Like I say in the video, to each his own. There's nothing wrong with being any of the things I mention in the video : )
too bad you don't dance half naked on a parade float

my friends and family don't believe i am gay since i am the opposite of a feminine gay and i don't fit the sterotype at all. all my friends thought i was gonna start dressing in drag and drinking cosmos and whatnot but im still the same person i've always been :D

:D

There's a flaw in your thinking: the problem is not that those "Stereotypes" exist, but that for some reason they're assumed to be Negative. You weren't afraid to come out "because of effeminate stereotypes", but because those stereotypes are used as excuses for being anti-gay by straight bigoted types. This is something our community needs to address and work on - not "destroying stereotypes" but destroying the idea that they're inherently negative. It's misogyny and disguised transphobia

@MOKandRIFF Okay, your comment freaking rocks.

Oh yeah, stereotypes are funny. how many gays dislike pop and actually listen to metal?
there are, but not common to hear about 'em ^^
cool video!!!
and I share your point: I JUST LIKE GUYS =D

Julianmarion 1 year ago
@Julianmarion I totally agree! All I'm saying is that I don't want to be labelled as something that has nothing to do with me. Like I say in the video, to each his own. There's nothing wrong with being any of the things I mention in the video : )

The stereotypes, the people that are living proof- are what make it bad on the rest of us.
I understand your point and agree with you 100%.
