  • I'm surprised the anchor was able to stay professional. I would have been too tempted to just say, "You are a fool, sir. Please tell me this is a prank because no one this retarded should be allowed on television."

  • Lmaoooo the act guy is a muppet

  • What an absolute idiot.

  • HAHAHAHAHAHA WHAT A FUCKING RETARD I'M GOING TO GO PUNCH EVERYONE I KNOW WHOS VOTING FOR ACT

  • Good one rick..jackass

  • Haha they were both brilliant.

I was a bit surprised that the young ACT guy so easily missed Oliver's simple point about the symbolism of Earth Hour though.

  • What a fuck'n idiot! Edison stole the invention, the light bulb from Kessler! As he did with many other inventions! Wasted tax payers money in education teaching morons like this!!

  • ok rick giles sounds like a bloody nutter but with the whole global warming thing not all scientists around the world believe its a man made thing they all agree the earth is warming but they don't all jump to the same conclusion as the media does. some believe its simply climate change a natural occurrence that happens from living on earth btw in the 1960's there was something called global cooling and in the 1920's they were worried about something similar to global warming. so who knows

  • haha! that's our planets future... We're fucked!!

  • Act on campus, should be act in the circus, everybody knows we're already stretching many of our natural resources to their limits, and the world's population will jump 6.5 billion to 9billion next 50years,wont matter how much technology we have dough.....

  • Holy shit. No surprise from the illogical ACT supporter, but I am genuinely impressed by a good NZ TV journalist. Kudos to him!

  • @stuaker17 i think we are just to stupid to understand his points. he won the argument, but he didn't present himself to suit our intellectual levels..... eg, ppl switching to candles will use more power... turning the grid back on will have a massive effect in the wrong direction etc.... the nerds are always right... lol

  • Is this guy serious? Clearly his lightbulbs are not turned on! What a smart guy, please go ACT on your ideas in silence, your argument is the stupidest thing I've ever heard!

  • @TheSyphillus

The NZ leftwing is filled with just as many lunatics: hippies, greenies, communists, the hone Hiriwira's of this country.

  • What a douche!

  • Not...sure...if...real ....or people like this actually exist O.o

  • EDISON DID NOT FUCKING INVENT THE LIGHT-BULB!!!!!11!!1! His team of underpaid engineers did. Don't buy into the myth of the "necessary millionaire"

  • @idogis1 why didn't edison's underpaid engineers just go out in invent the light bulb by them selves then? cut out the "unnecessary millionaire".

  • LOOOOOOOOLLL

  • ACT now, to stop idiots like this having a political influence over our future. Party Vote Green!

  • @megarillo With you all the way. All ACT supporters: If we are to survive supposed Armageddon whatever: How are we to do this if all our energy has been used up?

  • His shirt is huge, it's like a tent geez.

  • candles don't use petroleum...

  • Who knows what Edison would have thought of climate science.

  • @Sappharos I reckon he would have thought it... FASCINATING!

  • Unfortunately I'd say this guy is a pretty good representative for his side. They don't come much more intelligent than him.

  • I'd like to see a smugger asshole

  • That guy seems to be from /b/

    >>presents a completely faulty argument

    >>thinks its flawless

    >>ignores everything the guy tells to him

    ... yeah, def a /b/tard

  • @oleksandrik

yeah, except people on /b/ are trolling and this guy is completely serious :/

  • WTF

  • Make those who disagree with the view that we are responsible for climate change look like 'idiotic conspiracy theorists' and you further your cause without having to engage in a true debate with the many intelligent scientists who are against it.

  • I know sweet shit all about science, but I think I want to piss on about it anyway!

  • dav047 I never said 2 numnuts

  • @dav047 dumbass

  • wow were do i get a petroleum powered candle?

  • Edison didn'y invent the light bulb. Joseph Swan did.

  • Know your arguments before going onto TV or radio interviews for fucks sake.

  • "... not."

Just when I thought he couldn't be any more of a douche bag, he goes and proves me wrong. Excellent.

  • Comment removed

  • I do agree with this guy eh kinda I believe that earth already had two massive climate changes already and were heading into the next one in 2013 it's predicted the sun will have a massive solar flare which could either disapate in our atmosphere or cause a big heat wave. There was already an ice age before our large amounts of Co2 thera nothing stopping another one

  • @Gagsmore you do realise that it is impossible to predict solar flares outside the span of a number of days... also solar flares do not cause "heat waves" they are magnetic discharges that have the potential fry electronics. how did you arrive at the number of ice ages as 2? there have been 5 known ice ages. the direct links between CO2, methane and other greenhouse gases in the atmosphere and the rising temperature since the industrial revolution suggest we're speeding up the process

  • Haahahah, did he really pull a "....not" AND a eyeroll combo in a year that wasn't 1996? Oh man, this guy is priceless. You could just see the smugness dripping off his face.

  • people sounds even dumber than they are when they speak with this horrible accent

  • @ithildhelma probably the most stupid and ignorant thing ive ever heard, and grammatically incorrect to boot. whos really the idiot here?

  • How fucking dumb can you get?

  • it is very hard to watch this

  • its funny that monty python's arguement clinic is a related video, cuz this rick kid seem to just want to argue for the sake of arguing.... idiot....

  • Sadly, your arguments had become against many people around the globe who encourages it. So "I think my argument is so powerful that it's not necessary to talk about it " is definitely futile and you're mostly faces thousand many questions with the same WHY, along with the blunt statements curses as well. Your critics is unforgivable, 'human'. Do remember and respect our ancestors who is eventually survive without electricity and technology.

  • Dick Driver @4.44 admits he is lost and ends the interview.

The argument against earth hour doesn't need stating when the argument for it doesn't exist.

  • Giles arrogance doesn't help his case, but he does raise a fair point. Whether it is symbolism or actual impact, people will believe they can always substitute light bulbs with candles in order to save the environment. This logic is obviously flawed, and if our goal is decreased impact on the environment, using less electricity is not the answer. Unless we want to sacrifice the third world, the solution to the problem lies in efficient technology and energy sources.

  • @omgz0rtbh You're kidding, right? You can't honestly be so stupid to think that Earth Hour advocates using candles over electricity. But just in case you ARE, you should know that Earth Hour isn't actually about awareness of over-consumption of finite fuels and the need to switch over to renewable resources.

  • @SAWhowhatnow I said nothing of what is fact or what earth hour advocates. I said people do use candles instead of artificial lighting during earth hour, and further that they believe that with decreased available electricity they would be forced to switch from bulb to candle, which is obviously ridiculous, no matter which side you're on.

The rest of your comment makes little sense. What exactly is the earth hour about then?

  • Kudos to the host. Really enjoyed listening to him put that guy down.

  • I have a feeling that "it was a pleasure to have you on the show" was a sarcastic comment, too.

  • We need to be celebrating technology not primitivism if we are ever to get through our technological growing pains. If climate change scientists are correct, curbing our CO2 footprint is just a distraction and a huge economic burden. We can do a lot more with squanderable amounts of clean energy than limited amounts of 'dirty' energy as we have now.

Earth Hour seems to be a call to primitivism and western guilt imo.

  • They should make a cartoon character out of the dickhead's voice on the left

  • this man is the reason why ACT is a joke

  • hahahha BIG time

  • this guy needs to use the substitution effect on his personality

  • I just searched the word argument cause i'm a saddo in need of a life, but this came up... :S

  • ugh.. no wonder the rest of the country doesnt like us cantabrians with the nutjobs like this that get on tele

maybe hes right about climate change etc maybe not, but wow what a way to go about spreading the word

i guess he just hasnt equipped his ring of +3 charisma

  • Fuck earth hour, its POWER HOUR

  • lol Hate it or love it, this guy has a valid point! The host "Ran out of Time" because he had nothing to recant. Way to stand up to hippies New Zealand dude!!!

  • Rick Giles: "I think my argument is so powerful that it's... OVER 9000 !!"

  • alot of scientists also say there is no man made climate change and it is natural and there is evidence and thats all there is to it. But this guy seems like an idiot abit lol

  • @wwechamp7 Agreed.

  • This guy is mentally retarded.

  • What do you know, it turns it that climate change was greatly exaggerated and just plain lied about. If you haven't heard about this, look up the statements by scientists that have come out against he corruption of climate change groups.

  • i cant understand 72% of what that fatass is speaking b/c of that accent. The 18% is he is fucking retarded. Literally on both words.

  • @ChristianHHS1016 And the 10 % is nothingness

  • The kid with the act shirt on, is actually the correct one.

  • @pantadon Explain to me. Not that I think you're wrong or anything, I'd just like to see your reasoning.

  • how can one be so sure about himself? its incredible to the point of being a handicap.

  • lol. It's responsibility, for the power we've created!

  • This Idiot cant put forth an argument at all, god i hope that our political future isn't in a fuckwits hands

  • Whatthefuck, what a douchebag...

  • I feel sorry for these people, when they suffer under the public limelight, like this.

  • Did they search hard to find possibly the only person in the world that would make Oliver Drivel look smart?

  • This is just two wankers trying to out whit each other. Whats the fucking point!

  • Giles is a legend!!!!!!!!!!!!!LONG LIVE GILES

  • Someone needs to send this to ray william johnson or fail blog.

  • act is suck a rubbish party i dont even want comment as its proberly a wate of my time.

  • @SuperLolpants probably.

  • my argument power is over 9000....probably

  • wow. rick. nice work, right on the money... mmm yip sarcasm... I agree Jenny, we can only be glad that this is 'young act'!!! rick were you hoping that mentioning edison would perhaps prove to us how bright and intelligent you truly are? genius. epic fail.

  • hahahaa ohhh my godd how did this guy get on freakin TV!?

  • what a fucking legend

  • how can the argument be strong if everybody is doubting about it????

thats what i call idealism... dangerously approaching fanatism

in other words: you will keep believing your stuff blindly whatever people say. you are deaf to any other opinion or argument.

your mind is unhealthy and a risk to peoples safety (if you came to power youd be a dictator for example..)

  • lolololollllololol

  • Why do I know it's a fundy?

  • I don't know what you guys are talking about...

    That was one POWERFUL ARGUMENT.

I mean, It wasn't even necessary to talk about it.

  • The stupidest fucking person I've ever seen.

  • love the sarcasm guns at the end. Peow Peow, Rick.

  • Oliver Driver. The man. I miss this show in the mornings!

  • All I can see in this video is a big cloud of smug wafting from that poor excuse for a journalist. Scientific consensus on the cause of global warming does not exist.

  • @unsuspecting because you are a climatologist and therefore qualified to make conclusions like that because you have been studying climate all of your life right

  • @magnuit Show me something legitimate that says all climatologists have all reached an agreement on the cause of global warming. I can wait all day.

  • @unsuspecting you can't really prove causation without using proper controls, which you can't really do in this situation because we don't have another planet full of pre-industrial humans to monitor for 600 or so years. That wasn't even my point. My point is that you should leave the science to the scientists and keep your opinions to yourself unless you are knowledgeable about the topic and make constructive, logically sound arguments. SHUT THE FUCK UP WHEN GROWN FOLKS IS TALKIN.

  • god hes ugly

  • Another thing Rick got wrong, it's Thomas Alva Edison, not "Elber"

  • Please Rick don't do anything stupid.

I support your party but not you buddy

  • wait.. was that meant to be a comedy or an actual argument of some sort?

  • What barrel did Sunrise scrap this guy from the bottom of?

  • Rick you are the man, that guys is a straight gimp. You owned him man

  • @fasth573 this was suppose to be about Earth hour and explaining what it is for and what is it suppose to be showing, not about pwning people! jesus you little shit you really need to grow up or fuck off youtube.

  • Because its "Fathers day"

  • This and former Christian Heritage Party leader gets convicted for child molesting, is punched by angry man, falls down and whimpers like a puppy are my two favorite political moments (not that molesting part, that's just terrible).

  • i fucked his mother

  • And this is why the programme was scrapped. Because up themselves hosts like this just cant accept the truth.

  • poor act

  • wow. im embarassed to be in the same species as this guy.

  • "Its just that we've got these crazy people, sorry if i'm disrespectful, but your crazy!"

  • "Oh you were being sarcastic"

    "No, sarcasm, yeah"

Lol what a douche. So hillarious tho

  • fuckwit

  • Oh help

  • he just sounds like a douche... hmm i am rather unconvinced by his justification for an edison hour seems rather silly to me as Oliver says we use technology all the time and celebrate it. There isn't really a need to focus our minds on this issue whereas the earth and sustainability is marginalised all the time. Anyway he wouldn't listen to this argument anyway because "his argument is so powerful it doesnt need explaining" yea right... no argument is so powerful it does not need explaining.

  • Rick Giles has such a punchable face.

  • Act party, putting its best foot forward in this interview.

  • This guy remind me of a guy in my lecture..... I think it's the voice + the argument he's making that's pissing me off. __ By the way i'm from NZ.

  • I usually hate Oliver buyt he's done a bloody good interview here!

  • The symbolism is exactly why it's important - create awareness to change daily habits. Use less, be more efficient. It's not against technology its just raising awareness about our excessive consumption and climate change. If climate change isn't real we'll no huge loss, but if rick is wrong and we continue burning fuels as we do and global warming skyrockets then we are screwed.

  • What an idiot! "Did anyone catch your extremely powerful argument". Awesome! Rick you are a muppet and suit the Act t-shirt perfectly!

  • The biggest knob end of modern history...[not Oliver, the other guy]

  • Thomas Edison was a hack. Tesla was the man.

  • This guy is probably still a virgin.

  • This guy is probably still a virgin.

  • @broadcasterj

    He has children, apparently... :|

  • @broadcasterj definitely still a virgin. there's no question.

  • @broadcasterj i think yall need to come up with a better insult.. im a virgin and happy to be one.. i aint gonna give it up any time soon either (till im married which probably wont be soon) so when i see it thrown as an insult i understand why it would be insulting but at the same time its like saying having sex with lots of people you dont know is a good thing and its just not

  • Comment removed

  • @chunktuff - interesting speculation. Then again, how would YOU know that it isn't a good thing?

because your arguement is so powerful?

  • @brodasakura my argument IS so powerful that its not necessary to talk about it but keeping in tradition with the above ill try to explain it anyway.. for one im a christian and according to god its a sin but to put it in a way you might accept it.. there would be alot less STDs and alot less sex crazy people if people didnt indulge in it all the time with just anyone

  • @chunktuff touche. and to think i was under the impression that pedophiles, stalkers and rapists were people that couldn't get it with anybody, perhaps celibacy didn't quite work out that well for them.

I respect your dogma, and I think I would have accepted the first part of your reply without the latter elaboration. i can accept a person's religious beliefs, but i don't think i can accept random assumptions.

  • @brodasakura well ok but its not entirely an assumption.. its a pretty educated answer i think i mean i didnt just make it up or anything.. if you want me to explain it better i will in a PM ok?

  • @chunktuff sorry, i think there's a misunderstanding. i wasn't looking for an arguement or disagreeing. your beliefs are yours alone, and far be it from me to tell you otherwise. however, while you didn't make it up your statement, it did come from a level of knowledge to a certain date. experience tells me that knowledge and interpretation change through the ages and is hardly, if ever, constant. hence, peoples opinions are their own, but to generalise for everyone is a bit presumptuous

  • @broadcasterj He has a child. See my video of his interview on radio.

  • EGG

  • New Zealand!= United Kingdom

  • @AtlasObjectivist: You sir are a moron.

  • He needs to be ejected to a galaxy far, far, far away from Earth. My sincere apology to the other galaxy.

  • Rick Giles actually makes mroe sense when you turn on the closed captions

  • @plainoldant HAHA the closed captions are awesome! "another attack in tokyo morning"

  • I hope that is a very impressive use of irony and we all got trolled.

  • Wow, right on! Finally someone says something interesting about the international embarrassment that is Earth Hour.

  • WTF does he mean by "fun-loving"?

    Is it a joke?

Or is he just a fucking retard?

  • Oh My God Rick Giles..........What an idiot! My Argument is so strong i dont need to talk about it!

  • and just over a week later this programme is canned, bugger, young act is good entertainment

  • Early April Fools?

  • WHAT A MORON! Scary...

  • Great TV

  • What a dickhead

  • What a flaming moron. Surely someone had a conversation with this douche before sending him to be slaughtered on national television. His follow up video is equally as cringe worthy. Mate you are a real life David Brent and as a result, now a laughing stock and a walking PR disaster. Go home, don't come back.

  • Wow he's a real idiot... He can't even come up with a decent argument. Its not the technology that we are denying during earth hour we're trying to be more conservationally conscious. Would he really prefer not being able to use his precious technology because we just used as much energy as we could all the time and then ran out of energy? It can only be produced at a certain rate.

  • total idiot. rodney hide is really well covered huh?

  • Ok, I'm not sure that human influenced climate change exists, but this guy is a bit of an idiot.

  • whats wierd is that this dudes views are completely aligned with ACT's policies... why does this party even exist?

  • What an idiot. You turn off lights for an hour and you become a luddite? Fuuu

  • this giles guy is a douche, and makes me angry. He's probably the idol for creationists "my argument is so powerful it doesn't need words".

I really want to punch him

  • Shot ACT

  • Your honor, I'd like to be tried separately from Mr. Rick Giles... same beliefs but please... don't let him speak for us...

  • Two clowns eh? Pity he did not make the point that there is NO scientific concensus, and Climategate proved it. Water vapour and the sun drive climate, but of course you can't tax them can you? You guys need to check who's funding this climate scam -George Soros and big business, including oil companies.

  • Yes we're all in the pocket of George $oro$

  • lol Giles is a douche

  • wat........a ballsack.

  • I was cringing through that whole piece. Go ollie :)

  • the end "thanks for sponsoring... NOT!"

needs a bit more maturity and to actually listen to people, people in support of Edison hour are cringing

  • On the assumption that Rick Giles' ego will drive him to read these comments: Rick, you are a naive, ignorant, and embarrassing little twat, and I'm so happy to know that the ACT party has people as *smart* as you in it's party. Here's to the oppressed white, middle/upper-class man....

  • @JennyB456 wow. rick. nice work, right on the money... mmm yip sarcasm... I agree Jenny, we can only be glad that this is 'young act'!!! rick were you hoping that mentioning edison would perhaps prove to us how bright and intelligent you truly are? genius. epic fail.

  • @JennyB456 Im sorry but where is your evidence for climate change? You call him oppressed yet you blindly follow Al Gore's "amazing" climate change theory. Yes this guy is a bollockless twat and the way he goes about his views is retarded but saying climate change is definetly a big issue is ignorant to historic weather patterns.
