  • Thank you for the show it helps alot. can you give an address where to buy same like your canning machine. I would appreciate that , i am not in America. Thanks

  • @kirolls4 Thanks for viewing and commenting. I do not know where to buy these machines. I would search the internet.

  • @LDSPrepper here is where you can wwwdotgeringandsondotcom/canner

  • @rmb22273 Thank you very much for the link. I corrected it and reposted it.

  • @kirolls4 rmb22273 gave a link, here is the complete, working link wwwDOTgeringandsonDOTcom/canner.php

  • @LDSPrepper The canner currently costs $995 USD plus freight. They ship internationally.

  • If anyone is interested, there are companies that sell hand-crank and electric canning machines like they are using. The hand-cranks are the least expensive. If three or four people pitched in together, one of the hand-crank kind could be purchased quite easily. The electric ones are about $1500.00 each, so unless you have the extra dough or have family and friends that could chip in to help, it is not the most economical choice. Either would be well worth it though.

  • @downhomehonee Thank you for doing the research on this and sharing.

  • ammo will get you plenty of food if everything falls apart... just sayin

  • @gwinplumbr Not if you come to my house. If you food storage plan is bullets than you need to re-evaluate your morals.

  • @LDSPrepper Imo if people don't learn to live off the land like I was raised..(ie: ammo btw) then they are doomed if shtf because I think movement will be important.. Don't understand the going to your house or morals comment but w/e.

  • @LDSPrepper If you can't live off the land you wont survive. Who said I was going to your house and you know nothing of my morals. Get out of that cult and find Jesus and trust only his word. But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed.Galatians 1:8 good day.

  • awesome but not every town has an lds cannery ???

  • So cool, so right.

  • "Barsarmiti rice" lol (bass-mat-tee)

  • @StoneBoneAndFire That's how you say it! Samsonite! I was so close. :)

  • @LDSPrepper Hahaha! Not only very informative, but very funny too! thanks :)

  • dont know about other LDS canneries both in florida not a Mormon with ID "NO ENTRY PERIOD" !!!

  • @drywallit43 I have heard in some locations the demand at the LDS canneries are so high they have to restrict access. Hopefully if/when the demand lessens everyone can use the facility again. What city is the cannery in? I'll be glad to check for you.

  • good video ... i use the LDS Canning in toronto ... they are very nice

  • @1backhoe1 I'm very glad to hear that. They are very nice here too. They have never asked me if I'm a member of the church.

  • Where do you get cans from? Those things cost more than the food that goes in them.

  • @thatbastardson The cans with both ends, one oxygen obsorber and the plastic cover costs about $1,00/ea.

  • @LDSPrepper Where? From this LDS canning place? Do they sell just the cans?

  • @thatbastardson Yes, from the LDS cannery. You can just buy the cans. However, without the sealer you can't seal them.

  • this is good to now thanks for posting

  • What size oxygen absorber packet do you use? I have see 100cc, 300cc and 500cc. Thanks.

  • @darthom The bag that the packets came in says, "1500ml".

  • Another great video. There is an LDS Cannery nearby and I will check them out. Considering I am Catholic, I hope they will allow me to barter time/work in trade for access.

  • @darthom Your religion doesn't matter at the LDS cannery. They are glad to help everyone and give access to their facility. As a matter of fact the LDS church does more relief efforts through the Catholic relief agency than any other agency.

  • Wow, fun family thing to do. I like the old Ball and Atlas jars tho. I'm old fashioned i guess.

  • This is great , i never thought you can do this process home! I have seen an show on TV and they test product like can powder milk found in the roof of the house that date 1948 , so they opend and test it , and it was fresh like the day when was first put into! myself I found last year Into an old car in the junkyard an Pate , from kidney and levier , dated 1998 I open it , and color and taste was original, smell like normal; canning can last a long time , im sure at that!

  • Awesome vid, I have some questions though.

    1. What is the shelf life on that coca mix when canned?

    2. Is there any way a non church member could rent the equipment? I have allot of LDS in my area (I live very close to the Hill Cumorah) but I don't know any personally.

  • @RochesterSportRifles I don't know how long the cocoa will last. In my house not long! We love it and use it. Call your local LDS cannery and ask them how you can use the home canner. Not all canneries have them.

  • @RochesterSportRifles The LDS church has small canning machines in each region (regions are called stakes) that members and their friends can use for free. If you have any LDS friends, have them contact their area home food storage specialist to borrow the machine for you. You're probably in the Palmyra New York stake, so you'd need to contact the specialist for that area.

  • @rainjoules Thanks for the info!

  • ITS THE ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE!!! More coco, anyone?

  • I have a question about this type of mass food storage. Do you reserve all this food for an emergency situation or do you use it when needed? I have been watching videos on the LDS Cannery and I'm not 100% sure if people go there for the savings or for long term emergency food storage.

  • @kab4292 Both.

  • @kab4292 People use the cannery for both long term storage and savings. Both are a good idea.

  • In CANADA?

  • Where can I get huge bags like that? Costco only has flour and rice it seems. I love cocoa.

  • @YiuTeub Amazon.com or contact the closest LDS cannery in Canada.

  • @YiuTeub HONEYVILLE

  • Doesanyone know if I could use one gallon paint cans. New ones of course. They seal out the air ???

    Thanks!

  • 1:49 The daughter-in-law is using her bare hand to pat the cocoa powder down! Since she is NOT wearing plastic/latex gloves, hope she thoroughly scrubbed/sanitized her hands before starting the project. I hope she at no time became a victim of cross-contamination by touching her face, clothes, or other un-sterilized items & STOP TOUCHING THE CAN RIMS! Otherwise you may become a victim of food poisoning. Not to mention wasted food. Invite a "germaphobe" to your group if U can. LOL. I wish u well.

  • @shawso7 ya saddly, we naturally slough off lots of dead skin, and hair..pretty much non stop. I reccomend gloves, and hair nets when food prepping. And very, very, clean surfaces and tools.

  • how long do the cans have for shelf life ?

  • @RandomCatFilms up to 25 years. It depends what you can. It is food specific.

  • I'm very interested in renting or borrowing a cannery. Do I need to reserve one? I know I can purchase the cans from the cannery, but can I also get the oxygen absorbers from there also? And do you find that purchasing the food from the cannery is the most cost efficient? I am just starting my food storage, and have many questions. Sorry!

  • @rhosteph Contact your local LDS cannery in order to reserve it. If you are not LDS you may need to ask if you can join someone who has reserved it. Most LDS are more than glad to have you over and help you with your canning as you help them with theirs. Some foods are cheaper at Sams or especially Costco. You need to do your local price comparisons. The advantage of home canning like this is you can can anything you want. At the LDS cannery you can only can what they sell.

  • I can't afford to buy food for storing.

  • @satsumamoon Neither can I. I buy for for eating later. When I can't get food.

  • What a shame with all these preppers storing and wasting food. Eventually to be thrown out and restocked, If all these preppers on youtube just sent all their food storage to Africa maybe some little kids wouldn't starve to death. *

    *as fast

  • @EvanRooster Actually most, if not all preppers eat what they prep and prep what they eat. Otherwise, yes it would be a considerable waste. But, I know folks now living off what they stored years ago thanks to the economy. Many DO send food to other countries, but I guess if it's not on Fox news you wouldn't know huh?

  • @TheEndeavoringFamily lol I don't watch fox broski

  • @EvanRooster Bleeding Heart--You don't throw the food away---You rotate the food so none is wasted. You feed your family--If our economy keeps getting worse you may want third world stye handouts.

  • What type of cocoa do you buy and from where?

  • @anwalker3592 The best tasting cocoa I have tasted is from the LDS cannery. That is what we buy.

  • is this meathod only for dry items? is there any way to pressure can these in a typical home canner...granted you could only do one at a time...

  • @mellbutler I don't know if you can pressure can these in a home canner.

  • The blue plastic clip on your table should be placed on the oxy abs. bag every time you take out packets or they should be kept in a closed canning jar. The absorbers actually absorb longer than 30 min. but the official instructions advise you remove from the bag what can be sealed up in cans over a 30 min. time frame. Folding the bag over between uses is no protection for the packets. As quickly as you worked it may not have been an issue. Nice job though.

  • @zappo888 Great suggestion. Thanks for commenting.

  • thank you for sharing, God BLess

  • What brand is this cocoa? LDS? Thanks for the vid! I subbed. (don't bother to sub back, I have no vids)

  • @julzbo Correct. The cocoa came from the LDS cannery.

  • I have been watching prepping videos for months now trying to find a way for me to start. I feel like there isn't enough time left to get all I need. The bills are hard enough to keep up with little lone thinking about canning.

  • @djskidvicious "The journey of a 1,000 miles starts with one step." It can be daunting but it is doable. You'll be very grateful for any steps you take. Please take a step today. In 12 months you'll be amazed at how far you have traveled.

  • great video

  • Here in Staten Island N.Y. the closest cannery is 100 miles each way. But nice video anyway. I guess I am stuck with ordering from Honeyville and Emergency Essentials////

    Ohh Well

  • the jacksonville florida cannery does not let in non members at all since the beginning of the year.

  • @drywallit43 Due to the food shortage and not being able to supply all of the orders of LDS members that may be the case. I did check with our cannery in Houston. They do allow members of other faiths to use the cannery and to buy. They just have them join a LDS canning group. See if you can do that.

  • You know, those can sucking thingies........youre right, its easier to say than "oxygen absorbers". Might become common usage at out house now too. Honey, where did we put that bag of the can sucking thingies?

  • I love going to the cannery turns into a four hour trip but well worth it.

  • I didn't know it was so easy. I have got to do this. Thanks for the info.

  • Dont think there is a LDS church in my area of Indiana for me its mountain house or mylar bags.

  • Nice work and great storage options!

  • I am not that far away I really should look into this stuff

  • Katzcradul has a great video on how to store the oxegyn absorbers that might actually help while you do that job ... LOL yes I realise you are done but maybe for next time

  • Thanks for sharing. I am too far away to borrow the home canner. : ( But I have been to the cannery several times.

  • Nice to see families working together.

  • how long is that stuff good for

  • Very nice, very practical, genious concept. Thanks for sharing! :)

That food lasts for ages, canned properly, treated hygienically, and with Oxy Absorbers - that's just really awesome.

A comment to Allen2045 - that is an excellent idea. Here you can get little metal can openers for basically a few cents - tape one inside each box (under the lid, and you always have one, and reserves, when you need to open them! :)

I will look into if there is an LDS cannery up here, but I seriously doubt it.

  • I would have to have a can opener in every box. Great video.

  • @Allen2045 Great idea!

  • @LDSPrepper Thanks, I was just wondering why I never see can openers mentioned when people are stocking up on can goods. We all have them but if the worse came to worse and you had to live off the food you would need several canopeners in case one broke.

  • Awesome vid!

  • Do you have to be a member of the LDS church to use it?

  • @lara7206 No not at all. Please read the description for more info.

  • @lara7206 it depends some cannerys let everyone come in some you have to be brought by a lds church member and others are members only.so call before you go.
