  • what a performance

  • such a nice vid :))

  • it seems like there were more fit men back then.. also cuter

  • dreamed to be a dancer in an operetta from the age of 3 years...like Rita...(yep not just opera or music....not not cash flows)

  • Wonderful Rita!

  • If you are a man who prefers Rita Hayworth to Pamela Anderson, please marry me!!!

  • @LadyTwentySeven por supuesto 100 veces màs, es increíblemente bella. Donde vamos de luna de miel?

  • That´s why there never was a woman like Gilda!

  • hah I'd love to see angelina jolie, megan fox or any other actresses of today try that back then you had to be a beautiful actress who could either sing or dance and be extremely charming all at once now all that's looked at is sex appeal even the acting credentials don't have to be up to par it's so hard to take these current celebrities seriously.

  • Thank you for uploading this clip! This was always one of my favorite Rita dance numbers! What class she had. I especially love this clip from 1:27 and on. What dancing!

  • I know thats Right!!!!!!!

  • Yes, she is wonderful, but no need to copy brazilian Carmem Miranda and Carioca's look like - producers should have done better.

  • Isn't it an amazing, breath taken dance performance? I cannot take my eyes away from the gracious movements of her beautiful shoulders and arms ... All through the dance she gives off a unfailing, magical kind of power!!! I love you, Rita. I always will.

  • @chilvari Well, then you shouldn't have gone into all this bla in the first place. Just my opinion. Bye.

  • @chilvari What is your problem, chilvari? Why are you insulting people for nothing?

  • Até com esse vestido horrível ela era maravilhosa!

  • This stuff is gold !

Shame that todays dancers are all about booty shaking XD

  • She was one of the most gorgeous women ever to live.

  • :50 to 1:08 is just too, too sexy!

  • how called this is film?

  • Fuck that was amazing! Rita Hayworth, I'll always love you!!!!

  • Esta mujer es era una diosa, es la perfeccion hecha realidad.....que mujer.....

  • @leparditas Well perhaps you're not used this singing sans (that means without) autotune, but this is what a real voice sounds like.

  • Actually Rita was 3 months pregnant when she filmed this scene in 1944!!! Her baby Rebecca Wells, (Orson's kid) would be born in early 1945. After a brief maternity leave, Rita went back to Columbia Pictures and began filming Gilda.

  • it simply pains me to see this and many performances like it because I can only think of the many extremely talented and worthy women of color who were never given the opportunity to show hollywood's audience just how REAL dancing should look. though this woman is beautiful she makes every move look forced and off balance. If america would have had the courage to look upon the talent and grace of ALL artists/entertainers we would be in much better place today.

  • @MsLoyal12 Rita Hayworth was of Spanish decent on her father side. She was part of a dance act with him they would perform in clubs in Mexico. They had to whiten her up to give her a broader appeal. Like anything back then they water it down so it wouldn't be to sexy. It was 1945 not 2010.

  • @dogma71 thats wonderful that she was half spanish but the point is that they (all white hollywood) preferred to give a watered down less ethnic (not sexy) version of things just to depict to the world that in order for anything to be "RIGHT" it had 2 look white or closer to white than what originality called 4. They "whitened" her up 2 satisfy racist american audiences not "to give her a broader appeal".

  • @dogma71 Yes it was 1945 and it is still disgusting today to know that beautiful talented true women of color were denied the chance to shine because of RACISM and BIGOTRY.

  • @MsLoyal12 I'm Mexican American so to see any body of Latin descent on film back then is better than nothing. Hispanics and African Americans had to do whatever need to get work back then. Just read about about what Burt Ward had to do to get work. Black actresses did get to shine in Stormy Weather and Cabin in the Sky. People need to remind the younger generations to watch these movies. In 1945 the Holocaust was going on so it was a bad time in the world in general with bigotry @ Racism.

  • @dogma71 Correction Bert Williams . The other one played Ward played Batman. I got my "burt's" mixed up.

  • @dogma71 Yes I agree with the fact that people of color had to deal with whatever they were given back then. As i stated originally I was simply pointing out that many women of color who possessed true talent lost out on their chance simply becuz they weren't white or light enough. Today's hollywood mirrors old hollywood. We should have grown since 1945 but still today we have the glorification of racism displayed in commercials, film, sitcoms etc. How many Mexican American do you see in leading

  • @dogma71 Hollywood roles in 2010? 1945 was a great excuse but whats the excuse today? Unfortunately instead of learning from the mistakes of the past today’s Hollywood is simply continuing them and that benefits no one in a society that basis everything off of the fantasy of Hollywood. I simply feel for those who missed out on their dreams becuz of hate and selfishness.

  • @MsLoyal12 Money is the bottom line . I wish it was art but it’s not. Oprah and Tyler Perry need to produce some high quality musicals. I’m sick of hip hop dance movies. They need to change it up. the Hispanic people of power need to start making better varsity of entertainment also. If you want to see change help a dancer friend out make short movies. I support people who don’t fit the norm in entertainment. It’s all word of mouth . Support the people coming up .

  • @dogma71 whoops, * better variety

  • @MsLoyal12 Entertainment is just bad in general today. Reality TV fools and 3d movies. If you find someone you like twitter the links pass it around. Someone might get a deal out of it. That's why I watch old clips I get bored with the new.

  • @dogma71 me too! I'm Afro-Hispanic and it makes me so glad that Rita, who is of Spanish descent, made it big time in Hollywood back in the 40's and 50's during a hard time for poeple of color.

  • @chilvari , she wasn't entirely of Spanish descent. Her mother was Anglo-Irish. But I do see what you mean.

  • @chilvari Interesting what you consider "color", haha.

  • @chilvari "You and everyone else need to strip away these race and color boundaries and realize we're all the same" - Well, you were the one who started talking about races and colour, putting Rita into a category, not me!

  • @chilvari You really have issues considering your aggressive writing. Maybe that's why you keep your channel invisible. And maybe you shouldn't judge others by your own standards!

  • @MsLoyal12

Very true, but dancing WAS Rita's forte. She was rumored to be pregnant with her first daughter during this shoot...so...

  • @oath5 im sure it was a happy time for her but thats no excuse for this lackluster performance.

  • @oath5 I would take it that she was holding back not to over do it and risk a miscarriage.

  • In this number, Rita looks like a real-life Vargas Girl!

  • where's her tap shoes

  • I wish they made movies today like they used to like this. One of the best actresses ever to grace the silver screen.

  • Rita forever!!!!!

  • What a fantastic performance. They just don't make em like that now a days.

  • I long for hair that long!

  • Hair extensions, my friend.

  • incredible!

  • Fox.

  • For those who like this number, and, of course I do, please check out th YOU WERE NEVER LOVELIER videos. Imho, it was her very best film and performances — with Fred Astaire, of course. Especially the tap dance routine THE SHORTY GEORGE.

  • How can she possibly be pregnant? Amazing.

I just wish they would for once have just let her keep her natural hair color. It would have fit in!!

    Best dancer ever.

  • @ seastone88 WHAT? She was PREGNANT! I can't believe it! the girl is amazing!

  • people settle for less with time.. nowadays any hanna montana and backstreetboys-like will do..

  • EXCITING !!!

  • Thank U.I will share on Twitter. Shaneslas.Love this song**:)**

  • "Vita" dhaling you look stunning.

  • Rita Forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I am a girl as well and she is so pretty wow and very talented

  • She was the niece of Ginger Rogers

She was a really great dancer and the most elegant woman of her time

  • Um, no, she wasn't Ginger Rogers' niece.

Hayworth's maternal uncle, Vinton Hayworth, was married to Rogers' maternal aunt, Jean Owens. (From Wikipedia.)

  • Thank You wthte* WOW *I want to share this on Twitter. Thank U Miss Hayworth, what a beautiful song and dance. Great To all involved. S*B* :)

  • so, they were cousins, and not aunt and niece?

  • They don't make them like they used to is so true when it comes to movies.

  • Brava Rita!!!!!Huggies Perla.

  • Everything about this is perfect!! Rita was such an amazing dancer, such sharp movements! I love the female descant as well!

  • this is an amazing performance! I love it!

  • Yea - this is coming out finally on DVD this year!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks

  • oentschi, I adore RITA, but I cant call THE Orson Welles asshole...sorry ;)

  • and can you all imagine that she always married men who cheated on her not even after 1 year ?

orson welles cheated on her right after their marriage with judy garland, and ali khan had a whole harem...what a shame, what a waste, what, sorry, assholes these conceited men were...they destroyed her mentally !!!

  • Isn´t she just a dream-girl ? Even with today standards men can understand why the GI´s went crazy for her ! She is not only beautiful as perhaps Angelina Jolie is today, BUT she had class and talent and charme too !!! Most of the female stars of today lack these 3 things !

  • even though i am a girl i can't take my eyes off her. the most beautiful woman ever!

  • YOU EXCITE ME RITA!!!

  • She was beyond beautiful and a full-throttled dancer. Fred Astaire said she was his favorite dance partner. Can you imagine Ginger trying to do this number?

  • What a trooper! To dance like that when she had morning sickness!

  • @cinerama62 Yes there are... are you serious....get real.

  • Rita Hayworth=Gorgeous!!!! :)

  • way to wicked!!!mmm mmmm,she kicks!

  • No it's YOU that EXCITE me! Jesus what a woman, die for one of your kisses...

  • Great gams!! :D

  • I WOULD DIE FOR HER !

  • she's so cool - menthol cool/

  • GODDESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • the most exiting woman i have ever seenits so beautifull bravo!!

  • One of he most exciting dance scenes ever filmed...only Rita Hayworth could have pulled this one off. What a beauty.

  • 1940's Hollywood had many beautiful faces--Lana, Ingrid, Gene, Ava--but only one was equally beautiful, and musically gifted--Rita Hayward. She is one of most favorite, and I never tire of seeing her movies.

  • God she was so gorgeous! I wonder what it must have been like to go through life that beautiful and have everybody adore and fawn over you. She sure was something special.

  • Rita H. a cores You Exite me e mais bonita ainda viva Rita

  • Wow!Hayworth was physical perfection in the 1940's I must say.

  • What a gorgeous lady and a superb dancer . She had Spanish blood and that explains. I saw her in 1950 when she was married to Prince Ali Khan and she was a marvel . She came to my country of birth to present her famous movie GILDA . With Ava Gardner she deserves to be named the most beautiful woman EVER EVER EVER. Thanks for this video I had never seen before . Merry Xams to her Fans

  • de la pelicula titulada en español esta noche y todas las noches, editada en vhs por columbia en dvd todavia no. Lo mejor este numero titulado you exciti me en el que el ritmo latino es sensualmente embriagador y con toda la gloria del color de la epoca.

  • Thank you for this!! This is heaven!!

  • Love them both!

  • the time

  • do u have

  • she looks a bit like Ann Sheridan and Maureen O'Hara in this, at different angles

  • "She was my favourite partner", said Fred Astaire. But people here that are saying that Rita does not have rhythm probably don´t know who mister Astaire is. And to say that violins are ridiculous... well, a lot of brazilian singers of the forties had violins in their sambas, including Carmen Miranda BEFORE her Hollywood chapter. Obviously, you don´t see violins in Rio´s samba school. But its another kind of show.

  • Everyone is entitled to their view and people like different things which I can appreciate, but for those stating Rita "doesn't have any natural rythm and that was kind of a mess" I cannot understand why you are even watching, as it is obvious you are not fans of the lady. The films of the 40's were made as escapist entertainment for a world at war. They were meant to be bright, fun, and light entertainment. As such, they are of their time, before computer and over the top visual enhancement.

  • what an idiot you are : nobody here gives a shit about your comments on samba rythm etc. - we only see gorgous rita dancing with GREAT RYTHM one of her best dances...before you make any comments about dancing you should shut up :Rita danced before she was 4 years old and was partnered and worshipped by the biggest dancers in the world...

  • You are right!! She was admired by Fred Astaire who felt she was the best partner he ever had. After all she came from a Spanish Dancing Family. She was the BEST DANCER EVER!! Too bad her life was didn't go that smooth.

  • I think this is one of Rita's best dance numbers regardless of whether she was pregnant or not. This number, and "Shorty George" from "You were never lovelier" I think were amongst her most strenuous routines.

Fred Astaire virtually said that Rita was his favourite dance partner, and he should know about dancing ability!!!! Also, her whole family were acclaimed for their proficient dancing.

  • Rita Hayworth was pregnant during production. As a result, the musical numbers were filmed first, before the pregnancy began to show. This could be why her moves were a little stiff. You should try to samba pregnant.

  • What deception? Who say's there is only one way to interpret music. THIS was the style at the time. Go check Carmen Miranda back then! She's Brazilian (born in Portugal). You call her a fake, and you have the biggest country in SA chucking fruit at you!

  • Que M....! Isso lá é samba? Violinos...?Ela está é fazendo ginástica. Cintura durinha. Naquele tempo a guerra se aproximava e fazia-se tudo para agradar o governo brasileiro pois o nordeste era estratégico.Disney entrou na jogada

fazendo o seu desenho onde aparecia um papagaio que encarnava o brasileiro. Putzgrila!! Isso não é música, é história.

  • Nunca houve uma mulher como RITA!!!!!!!!!

    The perfect woman!!!!!!

  • Gorgeous Rita!!!

  • Oh yes, she's excite me good!

  • This woman came out of my Grandma's Generation! What came out of mine? Britney Spears... I think it's pretty obvious where society is going. -.-"

  • That chick could dance!

  • What extraordinary dancing!

  • If you take a look at what samba was all about in the forties (Carmem Miranda, remember?), you´ll see that there´s nothing ridiculous at it - except your comment...

  • I think she would know samba better than you. She was trained by her Spanish father (prosfesional dance trainer) more or less as soon as she was walking

  • What great dancing! Rita Hayworth was amazing.

  • I think it's funny how many people question dancing in high heels (I'd say the ones in this number are about 3" tops) but while dancing on point is a little taken for granted. a lot of the same muscles are used, in the end it's all about exercise.

    still quite impressive though.

  • She is glory!

  • Rita Hayworth - The Classic Silver Screen Dance Goddess. The Excitement never ends...

  • era una diosa....uffff increible bailando con sensualidad

  • Far out.

  • that out fit shes wearing is kinda hot . . . am i right?

  • reading her bio by barbara leamng, any rita fan should check it out. lots of interesting things. electrolosis, abuse. etc. her life wasnt as great as it seems in the movies

  • I recommend any other book about Rita but definitely not Leaming's. It's full of inaccuracies and lies!

  • ???Why isn't this out on DVD. Rita Hayworth is the sexiest woman ever

  • what a babe...she is too pretty

  • Is there anybody who can download the musical number "People have more fun than anyone!from "Down to Earth". It's a song and Rita really does seem to be having a ball performing it!! Thanks!such a wonderful it ?

  • yeah baby!

  • she was a diva!

  • What a pin up!

  • beautiful and talented and a true hollywood sweet heart

  • Damn she dances so well and in high heels! Ever since she was young she was involved in dancing-specifically Spanish dances. Plus, her Dad is from Spain and was a Spanish dancer, that is why dancing comes naturally to her. Margarita Cansino, her real name before she changed it, was a superb Spanish dancer! One of the first famous Hispanic movie actresses, shame she had to hide her ethnicity for her to get good roles and not be typecast!

  • Those are basic dance shoes. You need heels like that to be able to dance.

  • Where did you get this idea? Her Spanish background was well publicized as it added to her mystique. Only her mother's Irish/English/American was ignored, being far less exotic.

  • 1945 : One of the best Hayworth dance numbers ever, glamourous, beautiful and sexy...what actress today could measure up with Hayworth´s Sex-Appeal + dancing ability ???? NONE !!!!!!!

  • Enchanting music....i had goosebumps when she started dancing....!

  • It's hard to believe in this sequence that Rita was three months pregnant! This is truly a cute movie, apparently due for DVD release in late 2008 (along with several other of Rita's hard to find Columbia films).

  • can't believe she did all that in heels! love her.

  • One of the most mistreated and misunderstood women in the history of Hollywood. She was fabulous and didn't even know it.

  • how in the world do they make bras that pokey?! thanks Howard Hughes...she's fantastica!!!!

  • no one moves like rita.... hollywood's best female dancer!!
