@ryan1059 It just sort of happened, I didn't plan it at all. Nearly every hike I took was in an 8 month increment. In 96 with almost 1000 miles under my belt I started my first thru hike. The following 10 years (96-06) were spent mostly on this trail in 8 month journeys. It sounds crazy I know, but there are others like me, with even more time out, a few. I was fortunate to be able to do it. 6.3 years of great memories. That sunrise was one of the best I ever saw, and I saw a lot. thanks
Loved the video. My family is originally from Rangeley, Me. So, I have hiked the trail up there many times (never in the winter though!) I was really impressed with your video and now that I am located in Northern Va. I might just have to take a trip to the Shenandoah to gain that experience too!! Thanks for the inspiration and the video!!
@SaddleBackMountain10 Thanks, glad you enjoyed. Rangeley is a beautiful place, and the trail around that area is awesome. Saddleback was the first mtn I ever climbed, and one of my favorite places to be. Shenandoah, well, it sure is no Maine, but it's a nice enough place. ...see you in the mountains, thanks again!
though winter trail hiking can involve certain hardships of sorts, one of the benefits is that you really don't have to go to far into the backcountry to feel "out there" in winter. and no bugs, no bugs are a plus indeed. -thanks
wow, what a spectacular video! i have TOO many favourite shots to mention!! loved the view at 1:07, the sunrise shot at 3:07, and the frost tipped shrubs that turn pink at 3:37/3:51! amazing!
Very soothing, sobering, moving, hard to put into words....But I think my blood pressure dropped about 10 points while watching this video.....5 stars

I like your winter camping videos.
They remind me of winter hiking and camping in the Wayne National Forest up in Ohio.
No Bugs, No Bears, and No people. Just peace and quiet.
We would have the most beautiful full moon nights there. Casting shadows from the trees.
Last trip I did it was -13 overnight. Cold but really nice.
I need to get back into winter camping.
Thanks for the inspiration.

Incredible. The view from Mary's Rock is tough to beat. Love seeing the lights from the town below glittering in the distance.
Good stuff, hope you thawed out!
