  • Stop shiting on his ideas this is what he believed in and it was a wonderful belief, it's much better than being an ignorant son of a bitch, who forcefully try to control other people's hearts and minds.

  • Unfortunately, all this idealistic bullshit is just a pipe dream, and until these dreamers come back down to reality they will never be truly happy. I say: be realistic. Be real. The world is not always a happy place. Wars will always continue to go on somewhere, and your fantasy world of eutopia and free love will never happen. You can't change the world, but you can change your own life. So do what makes you happy and don't let the problems of the world haunt your daily lives.

  • The world is dark, granted, but yielding to that darkness, closing yourself off from your fellow man just to keep your short, unimportant life safe for a years longer is what is truly pathetic. True, there is evil out there, and self important pricks thinking that what we obtain in this life matters, but this is not the case, it's not what you earned or what you owned when you leave, it's the impact you leave behind. See the silver lining and know what's important, or live and die in darkness.

  • In a perfect world ... yes, Bill Hicks. But not everyone subscribes to your "Peace, Love and Dope" image of this world. And that, my socially liberal friend, is the problem. There is always "another tribe" out there willing to take the WEAK's Women, Children and Property! So, Bill Hicks ... grow a pair and understand that the world is MEAN. And deal with it, you pathetic fuck.

  • @codethis Fuck you.

  • just like douglas adams and tony hawk, his life was ended way too soon.

  • @iamextremelyawesome Tony Hawk isn't dead, but his games are

  • We lost big mind when he died.

He was one of few modern "philosophers" who saw some light on the end of the tunnel. Reminding us that there is new better phase of society awaiting outthere.

Just like George Carlin or Hunter S Thomson. Great minds of our time. All we have now is damn southpark.

  • lol i stopped thinking like this when i was teenager

    .

    silly hippies

  • @fullfist seems pretty open minded to me, I don't think you even have any broad views of your own

  • @fullfist yea ! silly hippies well said :) :)

  • @fullfist You should stay teenager then. Do you feel better now or were you happier then?

Did you hear what he said? About people killing ones who are remembering us that life is just a ride? And damn short one.

Its only a point of view. Love or fear? You choose...

No need to insult other people. Namaste my friend.

  • R.I.P. He had a beautiful soul

  • Watching this video and reading (most of) the comments makes me realize that THERE ARE actually emphatic intelligent and spiritual people out there :] I wish all of you the very best in life!

By the way, watch Charlie Chaplins speech it is so motivating: /watch?v=WibmcsEGLKo

  • Bill opened my eyes to Unity Consciousness. We are literally all one. Fuck this bullshit segregation due to color, creed and race. We all came from the same earth and we will all return to it when we die. Open your third eye. Love one another and you'll be fine.

  • Yeah, it's a ride. I got the car where the safety bar that holds me in is broken. Now I wait for the corkscrew portion when I am inverted and fall out.

...Oh look, here comes the first corkscrew loop now....

  • Love you Bill :) See you later........

  • @HotPhlash

    or earlier

  • @VarisonAOE none of it even matters anyway. we cant even prove its real

  • @TheAceofNate

If it doesn't matter you don't mind and if you don't mind it doesn't matter

    they're both one

  • Well its a nice speech but cmon, thats never going to happen. Human beings are too much of a vile disgusting aggressive race to ever let that happen, its a shame humans took over the world. Earth was once probably a nice place, but never again while humans are still in control. Im counting on the 2012 apocalypse to end all the war, famine and greed on this planet.

  • @VarisonAOE totally agree

  • @VarisonAOE

it will happen and is happening - the worlds third eye is opening and their tricks of brainwashing children with fear cults are beginning not to work

information is circling rapidly - people are realising there is more to life than the 5 sense realm and food and sex and bullshit are leaving people feeling there is something else

we will always seek the ultimate spiritual experience - thats why so many of us get high to escape from this

we'll be doing it naturally soon

  • @timewilltell7 I would like to agree brother/sister but I feel alone. I have the same idea that many of us are brainwashed. But when I speak, or consider the alternatives I just get rejected or thought of as a weird, But I KNOW there is more than 9 to 5 it's just convincing everyone else. Try Buddhism, I've only really engaged in it for the last couple of weeks but it's liberating.

  • @VarisonAOE

the main blinder of the third eye are abrahamic divisive religious cults that teach one to look outside for truth rather than within, thats why they are financed and are the richest in the world - the vatican is the richest organisation in the world

and the tv with all its sex and violence and computer games etc - but with all this bombardment from these goatboys they still can't conquer us - we are invincible, eternal immortal consciousness and they can't hide it any more

  • @VarisonAOE THANK YOU! I'm hoping the 2012 thing comes sooner. Lol.

  • Happy B-day M.L.K. Jr. and bill we miss you too.

  • I don't think every one will do what he is saying in this video. I do believe that if this video just changed one persons perspective on life than it has already made the world a little bit better. Don't let this message die with bill pass it on who knows the world might get better just one view at a time.

  • I think that this is the best youtube video I have ever seen. It captures emotions that all of us have but do not put into words. More people need to see this.

  • @mexicoman101 amen!!

  • Guns are fucking awesome.

  • You cut out the funny part

  • Don't really like the ending about reallocating the defense budget.

It's not that it's a bad idea -- it's just that he makes it seem _easy_. You're talking about the cooperation of *nations who want to blow the shit out of each other* -- not just North America, not just Europe, but _the militarized despot nations_.

How many Syrian politicians, Iraqi dictators, and North Korean junta leaders _actually give a fuck about Bill Hicks_? Not enough to justify ridding all weapons overnight.

  • @Arkanj3l He never said it was easy. Simply outlined what we needed to have done. I'm sure he knew in the end it was wishful thinking. As humans cannot be persuaded away from their weapons.

  • @hitsfromthebong557 I also find this hard to believe, or rather, not well thought out. "As humans cannot be persuaded away from their weapons" is a pretty open belief, and still leaves the question of _why_ they haven't so far been persuaded, and _when_ they have been.

It's a fucking hard problem. It's way too easy to look, and say "oh, well, humans are x and y" because you don't want to think about it. Seeing a bunch of people nodding at Hicks' profundity and walking away is irksome.

  • @hitsfromthebong557 It's way too easy for one to say "Oh well, humans cannot x" as a way of thinking things away. That can hardly be blamed, because disarmament is a fucking hard problem. But I don't think you gave five minutes of original thought into strategies of actually going about it. At the very least, you can look for situations when disarmament has gone _right_.

That wouldn't be in Hicks' spirit, methinks. He was too cynical. People nod at profundity without doing the hard work.

  • @Arkanj3l Wait, you're saying it's possible to dissuade humans from violence? Making sure i'm hearing you correctly. No disrespect man but think about it, we will learn to live in peace or die. The latter will happen before the former does. We are violent hateful poisonous chimps. Granted there are some of us who see the light. Only takes a few turds to spoil the punch bowl, and in this instance the entire bowl is filled to the brim with shit.

  • @Arkanj3l I think thats the beautiful thing about it. It IS easy. It is a choice between love and fear. Unfortunately, fear gives a way bigger ROI.

  • @gregpphoto There's a difference between a choice being simple to make and a choice being easy to make. The options may be binary, but that doesn't mean the cost is low. The cost, or rather, people underestimating the cost, is what I'm concerned about.

I like the message, but the video is still rhetoric. Bill Hicks meant to entertain, first and foremost. I don't want people to watch the video, feel self-satisfied, and discontinue thinking further about what disarmament ACTUALLY entails.

  • Is it just me or is the "ever" in "don't be afraid, ever" really the key here, it sort of moves me to tears.

  • Everyone needs to be reminded once in a while....

  • one of the great philosophers of our time

  • Bill Hicks is my medicine for the sickness that is Christmas.

  • Damn, what a loss. RIP man, a true inspiration.

  • Bill Hicks forever!! Man of truth!!

If only all people could realize what he expressed here then this ride we are on would be so fantastic :)

  • 3 people have big bank accounts

  • My man.. R.I.P. Brother.

  • how do you get off this ride?

  • @kpartlow17 are you kidding?

  • The TRUTH

  • EPIC

  • 2 people are stuck on the ride.

  • @one3BRAVO

    2 people never got on.

  • @89Czeko Thanks for the supportive comment, it means alot :)

  • Fuck yeah! This guy had balls the size of water melons. One can only aspire to be so cool.

  • so gone too soon!

  • Uni-verse means one verse. In the beginning God said...

  • Bill was a prophet and a saint., but he was more than that. He was a believer in the human spirit. For better or worse, till death do we depart.

  • he reminds me of the motivational speaker in donnie darko, played by patrick swayze, reducing life to fear and love

  • ahhhh thats better, i was taking life seriously.

  • I struggle with depression and watching this speech helps me so much. I can totally relate with 'the ride'

  • @PnutButter1986 Hang in there Brotha! Its just a ride! so try n enjoy it!!!

  • @slinkloc505 Thanks for the support. It means alot :)

  • @slinkloc505 I used to agree completely with what Bill Hicks says from 1:16 to 2:00; but then again, reality kicks in and since we're not in "Perfect World", it will never happen, hence the reason I am going to kill myself.

    Post script, psychiatrist here.

  • @tomyuk Killing yourself is pretty serious. I hope you'll think twice about that.

  • @PnutButter1986 I´m in the same position!! Watched this clip so many times, it really helps! Hang in there!

  • @PnutButter1986 like myself, - he does not fear death, in fact, i look forward to the relief that death will bring......

  • @PnutButter1986 Hang in there, man...the ride is about to get a lot more interesting and you'll find you have control. Once you have control...I mean REAL control, you will carry your sorrows as memories, not burdens.

  • @wesmatron Thank you. Its surprising how much a positive comment from a complete stranger helps. Much love man x

  • @PnutButter1986 You are welcome. We're all on this ride together...we need to start caring about our neighbours and fellow humans. We all need to start 'giving a damn'.

  • @wesmatron It's only a ride, none of it's real. Your neighbors are only a part of the ride, they are not real. Don't waste your time helping them.

    Isn't this Bill hicks point ^^ ?

  • @mukkohaha That may be your interpretation. Mine is "Stop taking life so seriously and shafting your fellow man for the next big purchase."

  • @wesmatron But he did say " Life is only a ride, non of it is real "

You might as well suicide if you don't like the ride then right ? would'n that be the most inteligent choice ?

If you don't like a song, you stop it, If you don't like a ride that dossn't even exist, then you stop taking the ride ;) ?

haha Bill hicks is a fucking jerk like his followers, i don't accept any of this bullshit.

  • @mukkohaha The keyword here is CHOICE

If you don't like a song, you play one you do like. If you don't like the ride your in, you get off and take another ride.

There is ALWAYS a choice just dare to look in places you wouldnt look normally, be openminded.

  • @mukkohaha yeah, he's a total jerk for saying we should help our fellow man and spend money on feeding the poor instead of killing each other.

  • @martmcphly These poor people dossn't exist, it's only a ride, You don't exist, i don't exist, It's only a ride !

Did you just watch the same video as me ;) hahaha ^^

  • @PnutButter1986 Hang in there, PnutButter1986! Take care of yourself! :-)

  • @fiorellinoelena thank you, just that a perfect stranger wishes me well means alot

  • @PnutButter1986 I have struggled with manic depression since I was young. The more you think about things people like Hicks and Carlin so often warned about, the more you come to understand that there are two ways to approach your perception. You can live in fear and withdrawal, or as a free person. It's only a choice. I say, never be afraid to speak your mind. Instead of letting global corporate fascism and a one world totalitarian government bum you out - learn to laugh at it.

    Be well.

  • @f56789123 I agree with you, since I wrote my comment i have come a long way to alter my perception of my world to be able to bear it rather than scream at it. long road ahead yet but i don't feel hopelessly lost anymore

  • @PnutButter1986 I am real glad to hear that. I know how debilitating depression is - it fills me with hope to know that it can be dealt with and made easier.

  • @f56789123 You know what fills me with hope? Knowing that there are others like me. Knowing there are people like you who I feel all have a common link, a link which shares to an extent the same 'reality' of the Earth around us. Never give up, its all just a ride that we make or break with our minds

  • @PnutButter1986 I hear ya loud and clear, brother. It is always a pleasure to meet and speak to open minded, genuine human beings such as yourself. It is a nice break from the stream of idiocy that permeates the world, and especially the internet.

  • @PnutButter1986 Yeah, me too strangely enough. Reminds me that though I might feel like I'm hanging upside down hanging on for dear life sometimes it'll level out after a while :)

  • @vaudevilleghostgirl Always hold on to the hope man. Keep searching for your reason to live. Keep fighting for happiness

  • @PnutButter1986 I also do struggle with the same shit learn to find out who you are find enlightenment my friend

  • @PnutButter1986 I also do struggle with the same shit learn to find out who you are find enlightenment my friend life is an illusion make it

  • @PnutButter1986

so whats depressing - poverty, war, human trafficking, paedophillia, govt suppression, hatred, religious nutjobs - detach by observing your thoughts - before you know it you will become the observer and the observed will disappear

when you have a negative emotion - move around - motion changes emotion

the system is bombarding us with fear - turn off the news and when you feel down go and walk near trees which emanate the strongest empowering energy you will find

  • @timewilltell7 What you have said is very good advice. I am a psychology university student and so thinking objectively is something which I do all the time. I am using my knowledge of cognitive behavioural therapy to counsel and observe myself but sometimes I lose control. The thought is not voluntary sometimes it is unstoppable. Like someone else has the wheel for a while and they're trying to burn me out. Sometimes friend its not as simple as 'think happy thoughts' Respect brother

  • Bill always puts a smile on my face

  • Not just a comedian- Like many others I wish he were still around.

  • I watch this clip like three times every week... <3 ya bill...thank for everything

  • The meaning of life? Bill Hicks... so true! Can't believe Bill died at such a young age? His statements about being killed for exposing the ride seem be true.

  • No dislikes on this vid + video content = my faith in humanity restored

  • All I have to say is genius

  • Bill Hicks prophet and teacher, He tells the truth and the meaning of life in two minutes. His work done here, he has moved on.

Thanks for your honesty and for letting your bright star shine among us for a time.

  • I'll just be quiet now.

  • Hearing Hicks say, "It's just a ride" is somehow extremely comforting.

  • i love bill hicks! he is the greatest, i dont care what anyone says!!! i love this so much! i love how it ties into the whole show! and every other show he does!! listen to this before u go to bed, no matter what religion u are no matter what u believe! it is powerful and it is what u make of it... it does alot for me and i hope u guys are open mined enough to listen to it and take it in! rip bill!

  • you can think of all of us as one and still carry a gun, as one has to deal whit the parts of oneself that are not good and may hurt us one also has to deal whit other people that are no good to us and may hurt us... but it is true you must not do it for fear you must realize that you are killing a part of yourself (if you use it) and that you should always use it whit the intention of defending something good, never to atack something that you don´t like.

LOVE THE VIDEO must have seen it 100

  • @elmaxidelsur

Its amazing how u rationalize having a gun because u own one. The same way Bush and Blair rationalized the Iraq War. I see ur point, if as a species we did not defend ourselves the monkeys would take over, so I guess it is and always will be a balance between survival of the fittest and survival of our planet.

  • @JacobsJaffa ok.. first there is no survivial, there is ALL OF US AS ONE, second the gun that I hold is my body I´ve study martial arts and ZEN for 10 years (very little) but at least I undertand that little, let me explain myself whit a video from DALAI LAMA /watch?v=W083nSzx1Rc

  • @elmaxidelsur

the point of this, is actually to give one step further than just what you said

it seems that you are a good guy, and your intentions are good

i'm not telling you to throw away your gun... today, but the point of his speech was to contribute to make a world that doesn't need guns anymore, to live what everyone calls "utopia" which is called that way to avoid the world to enjoy the ride as a collective conciousness

    well... that's only my opinion

    take care

  • @opethgarzaMD that is call nirvana (or 100 other different names), it is not reachable in this reality, when we leave our bodys behind that will be posible, in this reality you have to deal with people that still have not achieve the same level of knowledge because we are in this place to learn. How you do it, is up to you, but thinking that someday we will ALL realize that are really one part of god as he wanted. Is not possible, AS FAR AS I HAVE SEEN IN LIFE. Nice talking to you anyway :-D

  • this just about brings me to tears

  • You have opened my eyes

  • It's just a ride....

  • looove it!

  • bill hicks..... a REAL god

  • @yardkyle lol i think he would disagree with you

  • @slye1991 of course he would.......doesn't mean it's not true though ;)
