  • @cliffordsmustache did you think of that all by yourself

  • Hey, I'm from the delta and I think this is hot!. The beginnings of rap and hip hop lay in basements and bedrooms of kids doing new stuff with old music, mixin' n scratchin'. This is blues and hip hop in their purest forms merged for something funky. I love that this guy even knows who robert johnson is.

  • i. cant. stop. watching. this.

  • That's brilliant!

  • whatthafuck MiKe is Simply a Genious!!!!!MaxRezpekt!

  • those cuts are so on its ridiculous

  • favorite part of the movie !

  • what movie is this?

  • @rolley05 Scratch

  • cheers ;)

  • sacriledge

  • No, bro, homage. I love the blues, listen to Robert Johnson every day still, just about. Mike's just incorporating the legend into something contemporary. it doesn't detract anything from what Johnson did, it incorporates a really classy sound source into what Mike's doing.

  • name of original johnson track?

  • "Rambling on my mind"

  • I love his face n body from :14-:21

his grin and little dance he's doing.

then at :24 he looks all serious.

    lol

  • If Mix Master Mike made a CD with mixes like these, I'd be the 1st to buy it!!! XD

  • What The Hell....How could someone actually think about doing a scratch on a Robert Johnson Song XD FKN SICK!!! 10 stars

  • 10 stars!!!!

  • this and the DJ Krush scene made this movie for me. It's real music made with records...

  • those are my 2 favorite scenes too

  • Mix Master, take a loooong break !!

    God doesn't excist.

  • ...a God walks among us, and his name is Mix Master Mike

  • wow! as a new dj the level of skill to try and aspire too is amazing. mixmaster mike you rock

  • GREAT Documentary. If you haven't seen it, go out of you're way to watch it. You won't be disappointed.

  • absolutely true. it's even been officially uploaded to youtube. So, if you're watching this amazing clip, then you'll be able to watch the doc not problem lol.

This is still one of the best pieces of audio ever created.

  • 5 years on, definately one of my favourite parts of the movie

  • kid koala does a badass one called "drunk trumpet" check it out

  • is da bassline any particular song???thoguh i recognsed it

  • so badass

  • true artist!

  • I'm really curious to see how much beat-juggling, scratching and general turntablism has been done with blues records...

Seems like this is the only example I can find.

  • Check Kid Koala. He does some blues and jazz. C2C also does a jazz track.

Im looking for someone who can keep the blues pulse in there, but its really hard to find.

  • i want some sexy subscribers!

LOL the comments here are silly ou

  • This reminds me of Moby's album Play.

Does he have a full version of this song that's for download?

    It's such a great combination.

  • this is the best

  • aaah.

he just fukkin rapes that ol' bluse tune.

    love it

  • Great job!!!

    I want more!!!

    cheers,

    Chris

  • This is still one of the freshest things I've ever heard. Makes you wonder what kind of cuts all these amazing DJs do in privacy.

  • That's is so amazing, taking a great song from Robert Johnson and remixing into one cool song

  • yo homie u no the name of tht song

  • its hip hop, dead prez

  • Killer bassline on this tune!!!

  • dead prez, " hip hop " beat

  • that song is called, ramblin' on my mind. the blues singer is Robert Johnson, from the lp king of the delta blues vol.1

  • 5 баллов

  • tahahaha i never noticed but u can hear the crossfader clicking against the mixer

  • Here's the wiki for Robert Johnson. Seems like that would be a rare fuckin record he has. But I might be wrong.

  • I don't think it is. I've got it to. and seen it in second hand stores

  • yep, the original press is very rare, I doubt it one of the original presses of the record though because it would be nuts to even play the record let alone scratch it. The originals are worth a ton of dough.

  • That Dead Prez beat is prolly one of the simplest hip hop beats I've heard. The shit sounds like it was almost made by Swizz Beatz. Funny cause it's one of the most recognizable beats in hip hop though. Hear that shit almost everywhere.

  • one word SUPER!

  • I cream my pants every time I hear that, wish he would record a full song like that. Anybody ever try mixing or recording these together?

  • same here !

  • i have the full video uploaded on youtube klick my name to watch it

  • hah good vid

  • how did he get such a long sample from the dead prez song? theres not part in that song thats 30sec+ without raping

    -confused-

  • He bought the single. Most rap/R&B singles include an instrumental track (and an acapella track too).

    And now you know!

  • Instrumental^^^

  • GRANDEEEEEEEEEEEE

  • I remember watching this documentary in a big lecture auditorium at MTSU a couple years ago. When this clip came on my eyes started watering and my head starting nodding uncontrollably. So powerful. Turn it up and enjoy.

  • sick........

i threw up in my mouth and swallowed it!

  • Oh man the vid is just 43 sec but i´m listening to it for about half an hour now. if i had the money for two turntables i would practise 24/7. and when i would have reached a simillar level i would do nothing but this dope shit all the day......MixMasterMike is incredible...i´ll bet he did that spontaneously (sorry for my fucked up english)

  • i wish he'd make a full song of this... i'd love to hear this in my truck...

  • how do i get the tunes

  • It all depends what country u live in to how easy it will be for u to get the tunes

  • where can u get the tunes that he is scartching n playing

  • Awsome!! Just brought that robert johnson record, gonna download that dead prez n give it a go... Mix master mike is the don!!!

  • ravedigger Did it sound sick ur what?

  • Yeah mate, not as easy as you may think!!! MMM is very fuckin talented!!

  • I'm glad this is on YouTube because I was wanting to show a friend the clip. I remember watching this documentary for the first time and rewinding this scene probably 6 times. Everytime I've watched it after that I still rewind it. Its one of the sickest cuts ever. Amazing that Mix Master Mike probably does stuff like this on a daily basis.

  • @OhNoItsGojira Whats even crazier is that its improvised. In an interview, he told me a lot of his non-album and live work is improvisational.

    Genius.

  • That was def!

  • siccckkk

  • cause nobody can do it like mix master can..

i saw the man live in berkeley & Santa Barbara

just a few weeks ago ;) i give this 5 stars!!

  • might not be doing much, but the guy thought of putting johnson together with a dead prez beat which is somthing original that i haven't seen lets give they guy some credit..

  • Damn, man, you don't have to lie to kick it. Big fucking deal, you can spout off deck specs and you probably do spin - good for you. But have you sold over 9 million records and have been forced to retire from the DJ World Championship? Didn't think so. Shut the fuck up and give the man respect.Yeah, it's your opinion, but it just happens to be a stupid one.

  • El mejor trozo de todo el documental.

    Brutal!

  • if i had one of those little oscillators and another tt i could do it...

    lol

  • bullshit mate

  • yea?

ok get a Technics MKII, a mixer with a crossfader and modulator, and a lp of K.O.T.D.B.S

the guys not doing a hell of a lot to be brutally honest

  • you are a moron... wtf is it with everyone always thinking you gotta be hella technical all the time in order to sound dope...

  • i'm not trying to sound "dope" you fucking douchebag

2nd, a fucking basic knowledge of mixing would tell you what i was talking about

Technics MKII-best turntable in it's price range

Mixer- used to adjust the eq, mix different inputs with others etc.

crossfader- "fades" in or out of 2 selected inputs

modulator- modulates the sound (wavering pitch)

and an record of king of the delta blues

    capiche?

  • FYI he's not using a modulator. It's called the tweak scratch, turn the turntable off and slowly manipulate the non-spinning plate with your hand. MMM is a master of this technique. He's so good it sounds like he's using some additional equipment, oscillators, ring modulators, etc. but he's not. You have the equipment to do it, you just don't have the skills. Think you can? I agree with nininjak, bullshit, like to see you try, post a vid...

  • 1. i'm not a dj, so i don't have the skills do do it directly in o the preamp

    2. he's not going directly in, and the camera angle sucks, you cant see what his left hand is doing the whole time

you say the slider switch is a tweak scratch?

    or is it the button?

  • 1. If you're not a dj then don't say "if i had one of those little oscillators and another tt i could do it..."

    2. He is going directly in. Ask anyone who knows what they're talking about.

slider switch? button? The tweak is simply a style, one of many that only uses a turntable to manipulate the sound and a fader to cut the sound on and off.

    /watch?v=2TM3OhOR9WM

  • at first i was being semi sarcastic about the comment, because it seemed fairly easy just watching him spin the platter, and user the crossfader

btw, did you make that video to prove me wrong?

i would try, but considering my tt (which i only use to play records) does not even have nearly the torque or start up speed like any good turntable

i suppose this is where i say i was wrong

  • you dumb shit, i was commenting on you saying "the guys not doing a hell of a lot to be brutally honest"

    capiche?

  • He has reached such a level of talent that he can make the most basic DJ technique sound both simple and amazing. I'd say that the majority of practicing DJs in the world couldn't make scratching and fading sound that dope.

  • thats fucking amazing

  • Robert Johnson cut up out of this world! id love to hear a Leadbelly or george formby one

  • Dope!

  • Ha ha

    Quality

  • this shit is hard as hell

  • hip hop by dead prez

  • I must say that this is different but I like it, Robert Johnson remixed...as for the comment about Chappelles show, it is the same beat

  • Isn't that the break that's on the start of Chapelle's show?

  • The beat is Hip Hop by Dead Prez, and yes, it is at the start of the chapelle show.

  • youv'e destroyed what made johnson so great

  • what an idiot.. he has respect for him.. he was born into blues and jazz. do homework before talking about another musician.

  • @ roach: 100% ack...

@ penguinpunter: by mentioning robert johnson, mix master mike definitely respects him more than certain rock musicians, who basically ripped off johnson and sold his music as their own. old music styles survive thanks to dj's, who keep digging old records out of the crates, where they have been forgotten.

  • @ penguinpunter: see this clip from the same movie, and you might understand, what i meant in the post above:

    /watch?v=1gpKYnRdf0A&feature=related

  • This is one of my favorite parts of "Scratch" Thanks for posting!

  • "Scratch" is the best documentary I have ever seen...

  • cool
