  • Is it always the same dance for Gion Kouta?

  • @kattmat

There are 5 Hannamachi and each one has their own version.

  • the other maiko is ayakazu

  • @millamus I really like her kimono.

  • mametomi looks so cute

  • Senior Maiko have a collar that is mostly white on the front but on the back there is a section of it that is red.

After they go through Erikae, turnning the collar, the maiko will become a geiko and the entire collar will be white

  • this dance is very common it's called gion kouta.

  • Maiko only wear the red collar after a certain ceremony. I'm pretty sure it's once Ofuku is introduced; but I could be wrong.

  • How interesting to see Mametomi, the one on the left in green.

  • They use to change the collar so it turns more and more into white and when they are a real Geisha it's pure white. But in other words they can have something between red and white too..

  • they are maiko.. look at the obi belt and hair flutters

  • Yes but the obi really isn't as long as I thought they would be as Maiko. But hen again the obi IS larger which is typical as maiko as well as the hairstyle and lngth of sleeves.

  • An obi of a Geiko does not hang down like the Maiko in this video, Geiko have box-like obis, also a Maiko's kimono if you look at her sleeves you'll notice they are very long and go down to her ankles when the has her arms down. Geiko have less kanzashi (hair orniments) in their hair ^^

  • I really don't think they're Maiko. They don't really have the red collar. But its really good.

  • Lovely! Thank you for sharing. I love that black kimono...
