  • at the very end im hoping that that was just the first stage breaking away and not a catastrophic failure,

  • @akidinspace That's exactly what it was. The whole test was to launch thru staging...it staged as expected and the fact the upper stage started tumbling after sep was an anticipated possibility that had no effect on the test itself.

  • We should have small towns on the moon by know, with liek underground tunnels and stuff.

  • As you can see the Ares 1-X worked ! It flew ! It launched ! Why cancel it ??!! NASA needs the Ares V to finally. At long last to get humans from LEO to travel to Mars and return to the Moon !!

  • amazing video thanks for posting

  • And if you didn't realize but this rocket is about the same size as the Saturn 5 but much faster, its partner Ares 5 which is a payload rocket, much taller than the saturn 5. NASA is improving on their rocket designs to make them faster, so that someday we can live in the sci-fi world, like lightspeed or timetravel

  • isnt light speed like 12million miles a min? we wouldn't just need new designs for the spaceship engine but for safety against the G's that would occur

  • Oh and couldnt they just find like a planet that can refuel rockets so that a rocket can land there and refuel to get further out to places and wouldn't it be possible for the station to oxygen from plants?

  • They're going back to the moon to do stuff they couldn't have done back then, like put a moon base up or travel to new places

  • The rocket's thrust nozzle can stir different directions, thats how they turn without wings or rudders. The shuttle has the same concept. and no they're not using the same technology from 50 years ago so get your fucking facts straight, you don' t know shit about NASA Superjaykramer

  • @kansasbball15 the rocket thrust nozzle can 'Gimble' in different directions hence the reason it has no fins , the process is called thrust Vectoring thereby allowing stable flight to still occur without the need or added coefficient drag from using fins ;-P

  • Same old technology from 50 years ago, get your shit together NASA. Fucking go somewhere allready!

  • I don't know anything about how rockets work, so I'm curious how a rocket steers itself w/o wings and rudders? Is it something within the rocket engine itself??

  • vector thrust and friction I think.

  • seems you dont mind using all the benifits rockets have given you. like the internet that you are using now. yes satellites do help people. i wish you could go live in the year 1666 then come back and tell us how useless nasa has been

  • you are mad. nasa have given us more powerful computers, which get used for healthcare and medical advancement and the internet, your right about republicans though.

  • vot bnp

  • Fucking awesome!

  • to all the dumbos bagging the rocket... dont take for granted all the modern communications you have.. ie global internet that you just used to post your ignorant remarks. the rockets make this possible.. wise up!!

  • i wish i could give more than 1 thumbs up

  • great, we can pollute space next. long live the terrian empire!!

  • People who think this particular mission (or NASA in general) is a waste of time and money have no grasp of scope, discovery, or achievement on this level of human endeavor.

Space is next, people. It's next. We do this next. 6 Billion people on 1 planet is like having ALL of your money invested in one stock that fails over and over on a regular schedule, and you're hoping it's not going to fail again soon.

Space is next - get used to it.

    -Qes

  • Awesome!

  • Looks like a flying tampon. O>O

  • Privatize NASA.

Why should taxpayers be forced fund space exploration?

Govt is bankrupt. The debt is in the multi-trillions.

Leave this kind of thing to private corps and non-profits. Then those who pay for it actually want to pay for it.

  • privatize war to then which is about a hundred times nasa's budget you clown everybody benifets from increasing our knowledge and understanding our place in the universe or let me guess you think the bible already explains all that

  • Bad guess. I'm an atheist.

I'm also against the Afghan war and was against the Iraq war before it started as well as today. Bring the troops home as soon as they can get here.

But those who benefit from discoveries should pay for their research, not the general taxpayer.

If NASA research yields some new tech, then those who buy the tech devices should pay for the research, not those who don't buy it.

When you call people names (you called me a clown) you only make yourself look bad.

  • all of mankind benifet from the discoveries or did you learn the earth was the centre of the universe in school

  • Each benefits a different amount, and some do not benefit at all.

Look, if I get a steak dinner, and you get a ham sandwich, should we pay different amounts? Of course! Similarly, if I buy a lot of NASA tech, then I should pay more. I pay through the product prices of things I buy. I've no right to force you to pay for R&D if you don't buy them.

Let the corps fund research, so that R&D gets passed through to consumers via prices.

Govt is less efficient at making research funding choices.

  • what would you have the gov spend our money on 2 million doller plus cruise missiles or the billion dollar a year war on maraguana .. do you know how much the gov spend's on research grant's and then sell's what they learn to their golfing buddies at a fraction of the price nasa is somthing that should make us all proud we can share in the discoveries and further our understanding of the universe at a fraction of the cost of going to war against some third world country

  • I'm against war as well. I think we should be spending about 10% of what we are now spending on defense. We should bring all the troops home and let other peoples defend themselves. US troops should defend US borders.

But instead of spending all that money on NASA or other R&D, I propose we just let the people who earned it keep it. Let them decide what to spend it on. I think that they would use it more wisely than Congress would.

    Don't you?

  • man.. u tellin me the stupid govenments are spending way too much money on bullshit wars and then more will go on the defence needed from retaliation from extremists.insted i bet u homlessness would vanish if money was spent right

  • looks like a missle

  • awesome!

Space exploration rockets > rockets to kill people

  • what a waste of tax payer dollars

  • American is using the money that brought from other countries in a right way. going space is the ultimate way to solve human warlike instinct. the sooner the better.

  • It wasn't to launch a satellite.. this might replace the Space Shuttle Program

  • I almost hoped it would say crashed.

  • looks like a syringe in mid air

  • Pardon my ignorance, but...

What stops the rocket from turning on its side once it has launched? Why does it go straight up? Couldn't a very strong wind blow it off course back to earth?

  • gyroscope

  • Flashback to watching the movie Gattaca. The launch reminds me of the scene in that movie.

  • "return to the moon". Is this rocket made to support a shuttle?

  • The shuttle is not going to be used to return to the moon. The shuttle is being retired soon and replaced with rockets like this. Advanced/modern versions of the Space Capsule system used for the moon missions. It will be like the images you saw a long time ago of the 3 parachutes and the capsule splashing down in water.

  • thanks

  • WILLLUVSTHE411 HERE ON YOUTUBE!!

  • i am asking every one, to research the man who hacked thousands of nasa computers............and listen to what he says...........post other comments like this else where and let ppl know,

  • More proof America rules and the rest of the world just takes up space!

  • riiiiight....

  • How's that billion dollar debt to China and Japan working out for you? China just has to snap their fingers and you're bankrupt, still feeling so high and mighty?

  • In a word...YES! Jealous Euro trash are just mad they cant put a tennis ball in orbit without American rockets putting them there!

  • Can't put a tennis ball in orbit? Europe just launched 24 Galileo rockets, 3 times as precise as the US GPS system.

  • oooo ahhh a gps satellite?! thats so cool !!! lol

  • I facepalmed slightly.

  • who cares about china and japan. America is the most powerful nation in the world and you know it.

  • America is nuthing, it's just a country as all other.

  • not anymore you knob

  • so NASA just wasted a billion dollars.......does that summarize this video

  • Yeah cuz the guys that worked on this dont have families they support with the millions spent on this program...they are robots that are turned off after the 9 to 5 workday!

  • you have a robot sence of humor, Im just saying it seems like the last two mission where a waste of tax payer dollars!!!!!! running a rockets into the moon....a billion dollars, and lets launch another rocket for no reason, which cost a billion dollars...... You know what they should put that money into....... building cities under the sea!!!!!!!

  • Now you're talkin!

  • Modern large scale ICBM test.

LCROSS was the same, except on a lunar scale.

Also, how much does NASA contribute to "Global Warming" with such testing?

It's all a BS scam to tax the world on breathing and working created by Al Gore and Enron executives who are currently in Prison for fraud.

  • you're stupid

  • USA :))

  • to the moon!

  • Try landing a space shuttle on the moon. Not so easy. Hints a new and improved rocket design than years past. I'm sure there is better designs floating around but development of them would cost billions more of your money.

  • Omg! this will benefit all of us! *ends sarcasm*

  • I hate to say it but it looks like NASA is trying to give space a dose of H1N1 vaccine. Really looks like a syringe.

The real thing wont be all white so I think it wont look so much like a syringe.

  • sweet

  • This looks like another Weapon.

Bomb dropped on the Moon, and now a Missile Test, nice job Nasa.

  • Brot to you by Chevron

  • I can just see Aliens all gathered around laughing their asses off at this comedy from earth

  • Rockets...LMFAO Silly humans thinks rockets are the way into space.

  • what a crap...rocket technology is BS!!!

  • It looks cool but the "new" rocket technology is BS. The technology has been around since 1969 when it was optimized. Now they just try to reduce the weight of the stuff inside the rocket.

  • What a load of CRAPOLA ! get your history correct ! Before you post! The USSR sent up a rocket with a Sat. and the USA about had a meltdown because the ruskies could send a nuke to there land ! Going to the moon and into orbit is a big WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY Just showing off !

  • Going to the moon advanced science considerably. If we had completed all the originally-planned Apollo missions, it would have advanced science even more. It was a FAR better use of money than the TRILLIONS we spend on welfare, medicare, and social security.

  • It's too bad they killed Kennedy.

  • I agree, if anything this is probably just political posturing against the Asians, Euros, and Russians.

  • JESUS ! People are starving on the planet earth and the USA thinks that sending more rockets into space is the answer? TAKE CARE OF YOUR PEOPLE !

  • space has helped alot in the study of disease. so dont think that this is not going to help. technology in all areas of life including genetic engineering of food to resist disease and increase nutrition, food preservation systems, how gravity affects bacteria growth. there is so much that can be learned in a zero g environment that cant be done on earth

  • lets say that the reason why America cannot help people around the world suffering from hunger is because of all the people living under welfare these days under this nation. space has nothing to do with this, ok.

  • Bah, Elites don't care about that. They just want to one day be able to escape Earth for their secret moon colonies (I wouldn't be surprised) at the drop of a hat if the mindless, cowardly sheep ever wake up one day and start killing them in the streets.

  • yeah that's what i say.

  • can you imagine that 2 miles in 30 seconds

  • yes i can imagine it. it is shocking to see it in reality, but i can imagine in my mind that happening. :P

  • What the hell are you talking about? NASA doesn't give a damn what a few crackpots think. They aren't going to the moon to prove anything, only to further research.

  • You're an idiot.

  • i have worked with nasa in the past. nothing as big as this. my stuff was pretty much debugging the computer systems that were in space at the time and i had to debug a computer that is a MILLION MILES AWAY lol. and i could care less about moon hoax people. once in the control room during downtime we looked up moon hoax youtube videos just to see what was said and we thought they were funny because you can poke a huge hole in their conspiracy very easily

  • sending up rockets while rome burns. very funny.

  • Ares I is a waste. We should cancel it so we can start developing the Ares V ASAP and man rate the Atlas IV or Delta IV Heavy to launch the Orion capsule rather than wasting money to develop another rocket that is not needed.

  • fuck you - it is needed in order to carry the sufficient payload of 150 metric tons, the ideal, per the rara rlar

  • um no its not. First off it sits atop a solid rocket booster which weighs a shitload more than an empty liquid fuel rocket that can be fueled on the lanuch pad. Definately requires a lot more man hours in the VAB to get it preped. Second the solid first stage cannot be shut down so if something goes wrong there is nothing you can dofor 2.5 minutes until burnout. Acording to the modeling there is a risk of large pogo oscillations during first stage ascent that could destroy the rocket

  • dude you cant scrap the whole thing and start a new project from scratch. what they learn from the ares 1 they will incorporate into future stuff. its not like they can say "ah fuck it lets do this one instead"

  • the sooner we get rid of the space shuttles the better. this just goes to show that NASA actually can move forward rather than stall for another 20 years. Mars here we come! lol

  • No, it's not a lie except on youtube where everything is a conspiracy...lol Actually NASA is finding new and more flexible ways of launching astronauts to orbit and deep space using existing shuttle SRRB technology.

  • why are we going back in time, i thought we already knew everything about this type of rockets during the cold war, or was it all a lie. even the moon landing??????

  • We are going back to rockets because of the space shuttle disasters. Rockets are a less convoluted means of getting to space.

  • Those shock waves were awesome.

  • cool

  • FIRE!

  • why are we shooting rockets into space, fuck

  • there will always be the poor and the homeless no amount of money can change or alter that. Even Jesus Christ said the homeless and poor will always be with us. If you are so concerned with the homeless and poor, I suggest you personally do something for them and not wait for the US government to do so.

  • I think this video is computer generated....you've all been tricked just like the whole world was tricked by the moon landing. Hahahah!

  • Tell that to the people who worked there fingers to the bone to get this thing into the sky. I bet you dont know what hard work is cause your a fat youtubenerd in your fat moms basement.

  • He's probably being sarcastic.... calm down there, it's gonna be ok...

  • I wanna see what happened next after booster burned out, is there another one?

  • just go to Nasa's page

  • Thanks, just looked at the rest of the video, which made me feel nervous for a moment. The first stage went spinning as did the main craft, and very close to each other, I don't think it's safe to go that way. The booster would be better off staying behind the vehicle instead of spinning side by side with the craft. But, what do I know... :)

  • This was just a test launch with a dummy second-stage. The real thing will have a second stage rocket which will propel the upper stage away from the lower stage as it falls away.

  • smart people work at nasa ;)

  • So what if we Americans waste money on rockets, exploration, and achievemnet? We have priorities. Those priorities are radically different than those of Canada for a very large variety of cultural and historical factors. At some level I think America wishes we still had a frontier and if it so happens that we choose space, I'm in favor. Besides, it's the workman not the tool that counts.

  • The NASA-budget, if spread out equally to all American taxpayers, is enough to pay for one BigMac a month. How does that improve on housing and health care? NASA is actually the only federal agency that provides more money to the economy than it gets. NASA puts 7 dollars into the economy for every dollar it is given. NASA actually boosts the economy, not to mention all the technological benefits we have from spaceflight, including a new generation of articificial hearts.

  • NIST invented pantyhose.

  • your comment makes you look dumb ..

  • It wasn't billions, it was 44 million. That is only a chunk of change for the US. Yeah they could have used it for human resources across the country. But this is paving the way for a lot of technological advancements for this planet. Not only benefiting the United States, but all countries around the world.

  • That's a chunk of change for how much DEBT the US from China... It's not there money to spend!

  • yeah lets blame obama for the rocket design

  • never did and never plan to...

  • awesome....looks just the same like back in 1944 in peenemuende. with some slight differences

  • NASA SHOULD EXPOSED THE ILLUMINATI & UFO's

  • kool

  • smart kids working at nasa.

    =)

  • I will admit that I love a lot of the technology that has been developed thanks to the space program, but we sure do spend a lot of money on it.

  • Cool Video Thanks.

  • kewl awsome!! go nasa!!

  • Don't you have some nuts to go suck on ?

  • yeah now he can pick your mom

  • I doubt that he would put Bo on it.
