  • @gemsgarden07 Maybe you should think about learning English while you're at it.

  • @wowzandalar Erm, i'm a native English speaker, and I'm not one of those English people that don't know grammar or how to read or speak street slang. I need not think about learning a language which is my native thank you

  • @aggelospanatha Thank you :)

  • it is very encouraging the fact that so many people are interested in learning greek, depending on the views of this video....and we,greeks as a nation we totally neglect them.....:/

  • I can pronounce most of the letters correctly (I think). But I'm having trouble with "χ". When I listened to it I didn't quite understand what I was hearing....I wrote "Hyi". Does that sound right?

  • @zakeroni39 The Greek letter χ is pronounced like the english word "he". It sounds like "h" in words such as "hello", "hi", "heal" etc etc ( χello, χi, χeal)...

  • @aggelospanatha No...Greek letter ''χ'' is deep.Nothing to do with ''h''.The Brits nearly pronounce it.The ''χ'' letter is much more close to''ch'' like in Achmed or Chanukah. My last name which starts from ''X'' is transliterated ''Ch'' to my passport.

  • i can understand that especially for those who native language is english will be very difficult to pronounce the greek letters correctly, but nothing's impossible!!! :)

  • Grammar and syntax is a bit difficult. But to learn some basic greek for example alphabet basic verbs and some vocabulary it shouldn't take you very long time, it depends of course on your efforts.

  • aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.............I wanna learn it :D

  • sorry dn ksero gt arxisa na gelao ap tin arxi, bravo opos mathenume k emis alla,as mathun k afti ti dikia mas!!:D

  • How am i supposed to pronounce this!!!??? αγόρι,i mean this does mean boy but how the fuck??! so confusing: "alphaupsilonojupkovpwiwta" seriously please someone explain!.

  • @RokuNoRaiden α = a pronounced as in "car" , γ = y as in "yes" , o = o as in "top" ρ = r and ι = i as in "hit". Put all these together and you'll figure it out

  • this is a greek lesson ,you dumbhead, not spanish!caro=expensive has nothing to do with AKRIVO=expensive!ENTAKSI?ANTE GIA TORA............

  • :P.

  • this is a greek lesson ,you dumbhead, not spanish!

  • this is a greek lesson ,you dumbhead, not spanish!caro=expensive has nothing to do with AKRIVO=expensive!ENTAKSI?ANTE GIA TORA............

  • It's funny cause I'm Greek :P

  • @A8eofilos are the words and pronunciations correct on the video?

  • @TheRushingWind Yeah they 're fine!

  • @A8eofilos thanks. So many vids on here where the people doing the "teaching" don't seem to know what they're doing

  • @TheRushingWind I understand but thank the uploader :D

  • russian would be easier for you since its a slavic language as well..greek is something totally different...it differs from all other languages...thats the difficult thing about it..

  • is it hard to learn Greek? It sounds so, so nice, but some people say that it is one of the hardest languages ever.... I would like to study Greek or Russian, so could you give me some suggestions?

  • @Zvono100 I think learning Greek would be very useful although its a little difficult for me and im not from greece but my mom is and she soke it to me since i was a kid. Learning the alphabet might be hard but its only 24 letters. Pronounciation might be hard but its fun when you got it down. I think greek is an amazing language and its weired but it helps like in shapes for example an ocotogon has 8 sides and in greek octo is 8 so things lk that help =) If u have any questions u can ask me ^^

  • @anime0pop alphabet shouldn't be a problem to me, because I know to write the most letters, but the problem is how to pronounce them. P.S. (i'm a student of the electrical engineering, that's why i've learned the alpgabet :D)

    Greetings......

  • @Zvono100 Thats good that you can write it =) The only problem you might have with prononciation is learning how to roll your tounge. it might sound weired to do but theres no r sounds in greek. Im sure you'll do good =) Its fun to learn ^^

  • @anime0pop thanks..... :D

if there is no sound R in greek, how do you pronounce the letter RO (P)??

  • @Zvono100 The letter that people get confused on with pronouncing r is P but you dont make a row noise, so you have to roll your tounge kind of to get the right noise. This video actually has a good prononciation of it. I tried teaching my friend how to do it and it took her a few tries but it can be done =)

  • @anime0pop I see.... Do you speak Spanish?? I'm asking because there are two different ways of pronouncing the sound R, there are R and RR (doble).

  • @Zvono100 lol no i speak greek =) Is that in spanish where there is 2 different prononciations of it? But when i spoke greek to my friend before because she was curious to hear it, she said that it sounds similiar to spanish, maybe thats why

  • @anime0pop yes, there are two different sounds of R, the short one (as an example: caRo, what means expensive), and the long one (as an example: caRRera, what means career,or race....)....

  • @Zvono100 If you want to learn greek the trick is word-combination. Apart from grammar and syntax you use a lot of greek words that you dont know of. Try to break them into pieces and you ll take autonomus words. Once you ll start doing that its like a puzzle. F.e. Parthenogenesis. Parthenos=virgin Genesis birth.

  • @denmasxe I see.... how long should it take to learn some basics in Greek?? Because I've heard that it's quite complicated language to learn.....

  • @Zvono100 well.... it is a bit difficult... but if you give it your best shot you will!!!

  • @DraSifisGr Thans.... Could you tell me, what's the grammar like? Is it hard?? I have some problems with reading and pronounciation. But I've heard that the pronounciation and reading/writing is the hardest thing..... Greetings from Croatia....

  • @Zvono100 Reading is easy. It is actually easier than english because there are 2-3 rules that if you learn them you will be able to pronounce correctly every word even if you haven't heard it before. Writing is difficult because of the many ee's ( ι = η = υ = ει = οι) and o's ( ο = ω) and many people get confused about which to use. Grammar is also difficult because unlike most of the other languages, nouns change also in 2-4 ways depending on the meaning in the sentence.

  • guys i'm greek ;p for me this think is TOO easy xd

  • small zita is ζ not z.

  • @byJessCh It depends on how you write it, and of course on the font you use. This font had it like this. I write it ζ but it's not wrong to write it z by hand.

  • @linaaaap1 no it is wrong...i am greek.

  • @linaaaap1 the small zita is ζ. thats how you write it and thats how its is. nice one though. good work

  • @linaaaap1 Actually it is not very common. We use ζ at least at a rate of 99,9999%

  • im from greece and i am a pretty good student but trust me even for me greek is the hardest subject and i think that non of the kids inside the class understand complitely everything that the teacher says!

  • I've already learned to cuss in ancient greek. That should make this easier ^_^

  • Im not kidding

  • I want to learn Greek but I can't really read it cause in the video it doesn't say like

    A=

    B=

    C=

    D=

And so on could someone do that for me please.

  • @dragonrider9929 you're kidding right

  • Hopefully someone on here can help me out. I'm fairly new with biblical greek and I still get confused when the endings of words change. I was wanting to translate the phrase "Jesus Christ is King" into greek. If I use google translate, I know its wrong because it translates every word individually not as a sentence. It gives me, Ο Ιησούς Χριστός είναι Βασιλιάς. But I know that in Greek that the phrase "Jesus Christ" is written as, "Ιησοῦ χριστῶ." Can anyone properly translate that for me?

  • @dadoggy03 The answer that google translate gives you is modern greek while the second is ancient( and not completely correct actually), that's the difference. I hope that helped

  • @NoiSyGuitarMaNiaC

Oh Okay, so Google Translate is putting it in proper sentence structure?

  • @dadoggy03 Yes.

  • @dadoggy03 The translation given to you by Google is correct.

Jesus Christ is king = Ο Ιησούς Χριστός είναι Βασιλιάς.

    "Ιησοῦ χριστῶ" = Ιησούς Χριστός

The endings change because the bible has been written in an ancient Greek form and grammar.

  • Thanks for the video!! My grandparents came over from Greece. They both speak fluently. However, they never taught my Dad to speak Greek. So I have been wanting to learn and this helps a lot.

  • @bubblebath934 that's nice! keep learning my friend!

  • What's an easy way to learn Greek using your tutorials?

Because I'm trying to learn as much as I can.

    And I'm not really patient.

    And are you Greek yourself?

For myself it's not too hard to learn, as it is for others.

Because I've never had old Greek, or Latin, but I'm learning it to speak with my family, so I'm kind of familiar with the pronucation of the words, and letters.

  • OMFG is impossible to learn it ! just impossible ! hahaha but I still love greece language !

  • theres great resemblance between ancient and modern greek.if i speak ancient greek to someone in greece will they understand me?

  • @Ralex004 they will understand you but not completely. It depends on the words you will use as there are many words which are not used anymore

  • @Ralex004 I am Greek but I don't think I would understand .. It depends what would you say.. Ancient greek is just lesson no one speaks it's not formal language...;)

  • is it hard to learn ancient greek? and do modern greek and ancient greek have the same rules or completely different? as far as i know, modern greek was influenced by turkish. i ve learned myself greek alphabet, also we saw the almost whole letters in our physic and math lessons. :) and my maternal language is turkish. that's why some words sounds like easy to learn. i don't know anything about gramatical but i am really keen on greek. thanks for upload. efharisto poli!

  • @A77aqueDD ancient greek have a lot in common concerning the letters, grammar, structure, many words but they are much more difficult than modern greek. There are also many differences, too. Try to learn modern greek first..and yes, most of the symbols in maths and physics are greek letters and generally in science there are many greek words

  • @A77aqueDD For me as a greek ancient greek is very difficult to learn..even more for u that u r not a greek...Modern greek's races are ancient greek so there are many things in commons especcially in grammar..Modern greek are Not at all influenced by turkish there are only some words that our grandsa use that are turkish and that;s because their immigration...NO INFLUENCED..Keep on learning greek...Take care..

  • tyvm =) i live in sweden but i im greek and begins to forget the my own greek language =(

  • thanks

  • Σσς dont forget there is a third from of sigma

  • @Commentaur: how can i type ς ?

  • @anonymouxz with w

  • really hard for me but ill try my best :D

  • For example, Sakis Rouvas sometime you just say? Saki Rouva, and i wonder why?

  • @Milkshakevanilla it happens with almost all masculine names in greek....we say Sakis, or Giannis or Giorgos with the suffix -s when the name is used as subject in a sentence(nominative case)...i.e: "Sakis Rouvas is a very good singer".....in any other case we use these names without the suffix -s..that happens also when we talk to someone i.e.: "-Saki come over here please"... i hope that helped...

  • @Milkshakevanilla Sakis rouvas is the person.Like...hmmm like when you say sakis rouvas is a good person.Saki rouva is when you call him for example.Saki rouva come here please!.when you talk about a person you add that "S" at the end like dimitris giannis so all you do is remove the "S" from the end.hope i helped you

  • one suggestion, I think it would be a good idea to write down the pronunciation. thanks

  • Thank you for Sharing. Very Cool. I try to learn qucikly :-)))

  • @ecjsimmigration1 well, yes and no..the letters are 99% the same, but many words have changed over time. Of course, some others have remained exactly the same...There are also diferrences in grammar, etc

  • Are you missing y and Z???

  • @sooooooooosexyphilly Both are included. In the greek alphabet, Z,ζ is at the beginning, not at the end.

  • Long live Hellas!!!

  • @muhammadirfan77 ZΗΤΩ ΤΟ ΠΑΚΙΣΤΑΝ ΧΑΧΑ

  • @muhammadirfan77 the words ΖΗΤΩ ---ΓΛΩΣΣΑ -- ΖΗΤΩ -- ΑΓΑΠΩ / ΑΓΑΠΑΩ are being written with Ω not with Ο. also the word ΓΛΩΣΣΑ is being written with 2 Σ not with 1.

  • @linaaaap1 About Beta? Is it Vita/Vêta everywhere in Greece? In other languages we read the phoneme as Beta.

Do you ever say Beta or Bita? I notice the consonant shift v 2 b? That's why I ask and I'm curious.

    Thanks.
