  • i dont use a black parl but i use the same method and it opens like a pro

    i have a 7 1/2 foot cast net and im only 5/5

  • Hey capt Ben, do they have a top pocket in then and can u buy then from BCF and what do they range around in cost?

  • i am planning to get a 10-12 ft cast net for pilchards and mullet the problem is i dont know what mesh size i should get so the small pilchards dont get gilled creating a smelly mess afterwards and still have the fast sinking ability for mullet what is your opinion?.... please reply thanks!

  • @snakeboy553

Get an 11 foot Black Pearl 3/8ths net.

    Godspeed,

    Capt Ben

  • @captchancey for a cast net like that how expensive is it and where would i found it in the south florida area?

  • what mesh size? my 12ft snagged on some pilings at egmont ket and it was 1/4" but i was wondering about getting 3/8" i usually am casting for greenies and other whitebait when i go to egmont of around bridges and chubs and pins in canals and what not, usually bait that is around 2 1/2" or larger. u thin 3/8 will be fine or should i get another 1/4"?

  • @redscarf11

I would go with the 3/8 they are great all around nets.

    Godspeed,

    Capt Ben

  • I just bought one and posted video on my channel. They are awesome nets and open right up with little effort.

  • @eastcoastpancaker for the the price you pay for a black pearl or a calussa net....YES you better try to jump in if you snag it. lol

  • i have never fished with a net before, how the hell does the thing actually catch fish ?

  • when you say the net is 11' , does that meen it is 11' wide or is the radius11' (makeing the net 22' wide)?????????????

  • @MrKstan1

    Correct.

    Godspeed,

    Capt Be

  • @MrKstan1 when talking cast nets, the radius is typically used.

  • Hey! that's the same of my cast net!!

  • its still looks hard to throw jaja

  • good vid

  • @eastcoastpancaker

    We have before.

    Godspeed,

    Capt Ben

  • is that your awesome idear??

  • Hello there,

I have been throwing my cast nets for years now. But i wasn't happy on the opening I was getting. I have only got a 9ft castie at the moment. And have been trying alot of the youtube instructions on how to throw it. I have mastered most of them also. But nothing comes close to this one. After like 2-3 tries in the backyard i had it mastered. And when i hit the the water the results showed. not only it pancakes, But you can quickly rig and throw again in under 30secs. Thanks Heaps

  • @metaphor26

You are very welcome and I glad this technique work out good for you.

    Godspeed,

    Capt Ben

  • The best video on how to throw a cast net. I've seen others on youtube and even though this isn't a 100% pancake throw, he explains it in great detail. Great job Captain Chancey!

  • @001anthony100

    Great post.

    Godspeed,

    Capt Ben

  • hi ..can somebody tell's me where is this place at..looks like venice inlets but im not sure...thanks

  • @caroadrian

  • How much does it weigh?

  • @cuercuscoccifera

I believe it weighs 1.6 pounds per foot.

    Godspeed,

    Capt Ben

  • Not a bad throw, but definitely not a pancake.

  • very good video thanks!

  • @lazyboi1212

    You are welcome

  • perfect!

  • how much is an 11 foot 1.9 pounds per foot 5/8s inch mesh net?

  • @KillerCapuchin about 350 $

  • is that a gold series or silver?

  • @skullhart

Gold Series. I use them because they are heavier.

    Godspeed,

    Capt Ben

  • @devolutionizreal

That one will be $269 at Total Tackle .com

    Godspeed,

    Capt Ben

  • Beautiful throw capt. , u inspire teenage fisherman

  • i learned as a kid the same way, works great. i just bought a much larger net and now prefer a different method when casting from my boat because it is easier to clear the bow rail or gunnels / transom wall. his video is on youtube as well, look for captjohn86, title is 'cast net instructions'

    nice video btw ben!

  • @illegalgardener

    Thank You

  • Not sure if I like the idea of putting any part of my net in my mouth after casting in the mud.

  • i like the throw over the shoulder way better i have a 1/4 mess 12 foot net i feel like doing it that way there is less room for error.and i think its sunny when people say "so i dont get wet" ur fishing bro.....

  • ever get your net stuck on that trolling motor?

  • @chazzyboy1234

Yes I have on many ocaisions.

    Godspeed,

    Capt Ben

  • and then i grab that fart. lolz!

  • Hey capt. you can still do this with any cast net right?

    thanks

  • @MrSnapperPro

LOL After a long winter I begin to wonder myself.

    Godspeed,

    Capt Ben

  • Hey Captain Chancey. Just wanted to say I loved watching the biggest snook on film episode. That thing was a MONSTER!! Too bad we had all that cold weather kill em off. Anyways I'm getting a new net. Which would you choose? Calusa or Black Pearl?

  • Thank you, I have had both but I liked the black pearl the best. The net really lays flat and is very strong.

    Godspeed,

    Capt Ben

  • i live karratha W.A best state lol AUSTRALIA the BEST

  • hey cap how do you find the menhaden bait or white thredfin are you just looking for schools or do you

chum for them and with what

  • I look for schools mainly.

    Godspeed,

    Capt Ben

  • nice casting mate and thanx i might use that style

  • its traditional way to do fishing in Bangladesh and India

  • i ive in florida were they LIVE :) i baught one!

  • is their any near me i live in qld brissy

  • Where's that?

  • Australie

  • Hey Shuffler656. I live in Mackay, Qld. hehehe

  • i live in toowoomba

  • how much did that net cost you

  • where can i get a 6 ft one!!

    i live in southwest fl.

  • You can go to catchnbait . com which is there website or you can get them at Laishley's Marine I believe.

    Godspeed,

    Capt Ben

  • which hand do you release the net in first??

  • The hand that is holding the larger part of net.

    Godspeed,

    Capt Ben

  • captchancey thanx for the teep me and my brother practice 4 horse last day now we throw this very well

  • not easy! good chunk! thats a monster cast net!

    ......check out my fish'n vids.......

  • i bught it its so hard to throw this

  • Broy you just have to practice in the yard a little and you will get the hang of it.

    Godspeed,

    Capt Ben

  • thanks captain Ben great vid

  • im almost there

  • Awesome, keep practicing.

    Godspeed,

    Capt Ben

  • Do a search for Calusa nets, and there is a video extremely similar to this style, but they go into more detail on technique. They also show you a good technique to throw it without using teeth.

    Nice video Capt!

  • Just a note, my granddad used a wooden spring loaded clothespin tied around his neck to hold the net. This took the place of holding the net in his mouth after he got up in years (he was afraid his teeth would fly out). Its a pretty good substitute for anyone that can't hold the net that way. The net comes right out upon casting.

  • I just bought a west coast 10' 1/4in mesh with 1 1/2 lbs of lead/ft the net is great, but it is very stiff. When coiling up the net to throw it seams like to much to hold in my left hand. Any suggestions? Thanks

  • On August 22, 2009 Chew On This was the first and only fishing show to reach 10,000,000 million YouTube viewers. Thank you all!

  • 10,000,000 million?

    that would be 10,000,000,000,000

  • When you throw it this way you have to make sure that you use your pinky to hold onto the net after you throw it and let go of it at the last second and whip it around at the same time. They don't tell you that in the video. I had trouble with that at first just letting go of everything all at once. That step makes or breaks the cast.

  • You are right. I will have to do another and add in that fine little detail. Thanks for reminding me.

    God Speed,

    Capt Ben

  • Cptn Ben: Im starting to use the cast net and to start i bought a 4 ft. How can i cast it. Please let me know asap. Thanks.

  • Those are very easy to throw. Just do a quick search on how to throw a small cast net.

    God Speed,

    Capt Ben

  • Loved the video. I have trouble throwing my 5ft so seeing you throw an 11fter gives me hope lol

  • Do you rinse the net in freshwater when your done for the day? I also found holding the wieght in pinched lips rather then my teeth. Not sure with a new this size if I still could.

  • anything that goes into salt water is recomended to be rinsed in freash water.

  • I have a small 8 foot net, this video helped me make the choice to buy a larger one!

  • watch my Vid it's not a tutorial but you'll see something useful kinda anyway please do might help you out.

  • there are a number of techniques you can use that do not require you to put the net over your shoulder or put it in your mouth... these would be better suited to a lot of areas and decreases the risk of getting a sting from a jelly in your mouth.

    Cheers

  • Nice cast

  • thanks!!!! i tride to chew on it but my computer screen got messed up...

  • Capt Ben, I am new to cast netting. I live near a lake that I fish mostly and the bait that is most dominent is shad that are schooling over 100 plus feet of water. Any advice on deep water netting?

  • hello capt ben, i have a 14' aluminum boat with a 15hp. i usually fish matlacha pass area and was wondering if you know of any good spots to get white bait? i have tried casting around the channel markers (68-78) but i dont get anything like the one in this video. i have even tried chumming the flats in that area too with very low results. i cast netted for 3 hours last week just to get a couple dozen 2" greenbacks. any advice would be greatly appreciated. i also launch in punta rasa sometimes.

  • Bait is very tough right now. We are struggling as well. The tide seems to have more to do with bait than anything right now. The passes seem to be holding more bait than anywhere. The flats seem a little to hot and fresh. Hope this helps.

    God Speed,

    Capt Ben

  • Capt You rock

  • do you still fold it up if its smaller? (I mainly use it in my neighborhood bayou)

  • 8ft and above usually

    God Speed,

    Capt Ben

  • thank you for the tips, you have improved my net throwing skill to another level, now I can throw an 11 footer verses a 4 footer which equates to more bait less gas cruising around more time fishing.

  • I believe it has 1.6 pounds per foot.

  • Seems like a nice way to lose your front teeth to me.

  • what the hell r u tlking about dumb shit

  • i ment to reply to kewlboy

  • I like pancakes when I am not on a diet. LOL

    God Speed,

    Capt Ben

  • lie.

  • instead of tasting bait fish all you have to do is sepperate the net into thirds, one third in the hand with the rest of the net, one third in the opposite hand and the other third hanging then throw the net releasing the the third of net in the opposite hand once the rest has spread roughly half the way out. A perfect spread without tasting bait fish

  • got a video? would be interested in seeing it.

  • It is really tough to get them in water that deep.

  • I'm 13, 6 feet tall, and I use a 10 foot cast net. I just typed in "Cast net" and I watched a video titled "Team Old School Cast netting" or something like that and that is the method I use.

  • There are many different ways to throw a cast net. This particular way is the driest and least amount of effort I have found.

    Regards,

    Capt Ben

  • Your way is a good way too, I'll have to try it out sometime.

  • Where abouts did you catch those bait fish at? i am new to fishing and i would like to know the best bait spots...

    Thanks

  • We net on markers quite a bit.

    Regards,

    Capt Ben

  • is it legal to use a net in the US?

  • nope =)

  • Must be because those nets are large because I can throw a 6 ft net no problem without all the teeth work and folding this and that.

  • in widely use in south east asia i.e malaysia, thailand or indonesia, common use...

  • you should come fish the rivers and lakes in British Columbia Canada, where the real fishing is

  • stuff canada mate! Australia is where the real fishing is........wake up to your self

  • Hey did ya "grab that fart" where you punched your hand through?.......hahahahahahaha...funny stuff, good casting.

  • Capt. Chancey you should talk Versus. or VS. to sponser you, you will be on national TV that would make your show get huge views and ratings!

  • i would laugh if he got it snagged and had to go swimmin for it! lol

  • that happend to me once, but it wasnt expected

  • hey man, good throwin, you should check out my video of me throwin my 14ft, its a new video so please rate..

  • lols....nice catch.....anyways...i have a new style that i made up...it's a one hand throw...and it works the best...no one knoes how i did it but i made it posible......and also....they want meh to teach them...and i did but they still couldn't do it....it takes skills to do my style......i was thinking of posting it on here but humm...maybe not..cause i don't want others to knoe my style..hehe..welp maybe i might post it....but only if the fish comes this summer...hehehe......

  • lol

    can you pleas teach me

i got my trhow from the internet but it doesint work that well.

every time i trhow it doesint open that much...

    pleas teach me it?

  • ahahah...lols.....welp...i can only teach you when your right here......cause it's going to be difficult for you guys if i just post it here......you knoe what i mean...cause yeah your gonna have to be holding it and learning it to knoe it..it's just how it is...well yeah some of my cousin saw meh doing it...but they could never find out the way how i did it.....so they just gaved up and throw how they throw....

  • It is so hard :((.

  • Finally I can throw my 14' without getting wet!!!

  • Great video, cast like a pro,,, nice.

  • Thanks!

  • where is Charlotte Harbor?

  • SW Florida

  • theses are 20-30?

    where DO YOU GET EM

i usaully see them for like 100

  • They are actually a bit more than that. Just check them out.

  • nice video man thats how i throw my 6 foot and i am getting good like that i may have to step up to a 10 foot soon. you should make a movie on how to repair holes in nets and draw strings. im getting a 7 foot from my bro that has a hole and a broken draw string

  • If I knew the right way I would show everyone how to repair one.

    Regards,

    Capt Ben

  • do you know where it is illegal to cast net? i live in california. reply back plz. ty

  • I am not sure in Califoria. Check you state regulations online.

    Regards,

    Capt Ben

  • captain ben what are some features of the black pearl that the bait buster dont

    have

  • triniwoi1. the dragonhead helps if you break a braile line so you can replace it without having to replace the net or get the net professionally fixed

  • does the dragon head swivel on the bait buster really make a difference

  • Is live bait caught in a cast net always the best?

  • on a scale frome one to ten what would you rank that black pearl castnet , then what would you rank the bait buster castnet.

  • 9.5 for the Black Pearl

    6-6.5 for the Bait Buster

I have owned both and both came from the guy that owns Black Pearl. He took the positives of each net and put them into a Black Pearl. The Bait Buster has a tendency to come apart at the lead lines. Hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Capt Ben

  • i have a ? where can i find chum for baitfish cause we always catch pinfish instead of the whitebait. what can I use or where can I find chum

    Thank You!!!!

  • Check with your local feed store for tropical fish food in a 50 pound bag.

    Regards,

    Capt Ben

  • i have a question, what about the technique for throwing off jetties, i take it this one will work? cause im goin to try and buy and 8' and learn how to throw it like this (considering its difficult to throw it the way i do w/ a 4') i like to go to sebastian inlet and catch mojarra

  • I like this method for jetties because it allows me to get distance when I cast it.

    Regards,

    Capt Ben

  • How much do there cast nets run? I just had my Calcutta net get huge hole in it...

  • I believe they are about 20 or 30 bucks cheaper than a Calusa.

  • This is one of the Best if instructional Videos i have seen for casting a net, Thank you so much. i got a few Questions though if you could reply.

1, can the same technique be used from a pier or bridge to cast straight down ?

2, what is the back ground music you used on this video ?

well man thanks again for posting the video and taking the time, 5/5.

take care and fish on !

  • Cage,

Yes you can cast this way on a pier or bridge.

My dad actually has a studio and he made the music himself.

    Thanks for the great comments.

    Regards,

    Capt Ben

  • That was a shitload of bait...

  • I'm not jokking when i say this...In Florida theres a place calle "Postal Point Marina" In Eglin Air Force Base. Well there, there is a drop that if you walk 4 feet you're in about 12 ft of water no joke. Well the BIG mullet (10-14") will come in there and I use a 3ft net (i know its puny but it works fine since the fish pods here bunch up well) and I can catch about half the pod if not all of mullet and someone who goes there give me $1 for every fish i catch (he buys).

  • hey capt chancey have your cast nets ever torn while you were using them

  • The only time they usually tear is when I catch them on a piling or structure.

    Regards,

    Capt Ben

  • im acctually 14 and im about 5 foot 5 1/2 and i can throw a 7 footer really good!
