  • Thanks to this great tutorial, I was able to replace the power socket without any problems. Great work!

  • hey dude do u have a vid to put the psp bak agen?

  • Thanks you saved my psp

  • THANK YOU. If not for your video my PSP would not have survived the operation.

Too bad my new housing is kinda crappy.

  • @mike939393

Haha, you're most welcome. Glad you find it useful. ^-^

  • is that kingdom hearts songs?

  • @cali4life707

Yup. It's Hikari, Orchestra Instrumental Version from Kingdom Hearts. =)

  • from some reason screws 1,3, and 5 dont move when I try to unscrew them.

  • Great tutorial mate, did not see the need for a video, u explained everything in great details. thanks

  • Jesus fucking christ come on taking apart and xbox is simpler than this this is so complex like come on thanks for the video but all these cables and crap are annoying

  • there are 2 wifi cards in your psp? xD

  • Do you NEED to completely unscrew the UMD door from inside because all Im trying to do is remove and replace the UMD door PLATE. It got a crack :/....

  • aww. shitload of work.. but nice tutorial thanks

  • at last , a proper disassembling video with INSTRUCTIONS thanks dude , cheerios

  • my psp1000 wont read UMDs when i close the door all the way, but when its slightly open while i hold it, it reads it or sometimes it tries to(the little white circle in corner shows up)? is my lens UMD drive the problem or games?

  • @zanzafighter4hire

Hi there, you can always try with different UMD games just in case it's problem with the games. If you tried a couple of UMD games and it still doesn't read, most probably you need to ask someone to take a look for you.

    Cheers =)

  • Inuyasha?

  • ive got a question...where do you buy the clear case or other case....i'd like to change the cover cos ill be giving my psp to my little sister soon and its pretty scratched up..id like to give it to her looking pretty and shiney.

  • Hi,

I've bought it 2yrs back on ebay. You can try looking for it there.

    Cheers

  • i broke one of the black tabs on the motherboard do i have to buy the whole mother board again???

  • @thedaniel805

    Hi there thedaniel,

Maybe you can try to get the cables to fit in snuggly without losing connection. It may work but if it doesn't, most probably you'll need a new mother board.

  • very helpful i like how you used pictures explaining everything, because it can get confusing if it was actual live video. thank you so much 5/5 stars :)

  • i just brought a psp 1003 cheap cause the sound doesnt work and the headphone jack has been ripped out everything else works perfect tho i have ordered new speakers and a replacement headphone socket and board do u have to strip it right down to replace these parts ? i am a girl so not very good with these things i have to replace my ds touch screen too but sum how think thats gunna be an easy job since watchin yr vid !

  • Hi superstarsarahs,

Since i can do it and i'm a girl as well, i'm sure you can too. =D

And as for replacing the new speakers and headphone socket, i don't think you need to take off everything just to replace that. But if you're replacing the motherboard, the big piece, you need to take off almost everything. =)

  • i cant seem to undo the clips to release the screen :@ its doing my head in ! lol what is the best tool to use i have heard people say knifes , razor blades etc etc .. but i tried a knife last night and nearly cut my thumb off so i put it all bk togther ! the speakers look like they go in easy just clips the headphone socket needs soldering tho i think what should i use for them god damn clips ! ??

  • Hi, you can actually just use your fingers to pluck it open with some force. The black clips are really tight though, so beware not to break them. =)

  • @pika8387 yay i did it.. i thought ill damage my psp motherboard

  • Awesome Video, perfect! 5*'s!

  • perfect takuyuki....100/1 xD lol awesome

  • 5/5 awesome.

  • Haha, glad that you found it useful. =D

    Cheers~

  • ^ - ^

  • possible the best and most helpful psp video i have seen.

  • I'm sorry to be a nuisance, but do you tihnk that you could reply to my video, if you know what it is? Thank you Pika.

  • Hi there keroberus,

I'm afraid i have no idea about that part you showed in your video. Sorry.. =(

  • Damnit... It just appeared when I tried re-assembling it for the second time... o_o.

No Idea what to do with it

  • Wow this TUT helped me!!

Can you make a resemble psp video? I'm sure a lot of people would wonder how to do it.

    5/5

  • Pika8387, can I ask where the "adhesive cable" is after you take off the power board? I just can't see what you're showing us on the picture.

  • Hi there keroberus,

The "Adhesive cable" is just a sticker-like form which is attached to the Button/power board if i'm not mistaken.

    Cheers~

  • Thank you Pika =)

By the way, why is it some screws just do not screw in properly? You unscrew them and try putting it back in the same place, and it doesn't work. =(

  • OH, and also, you know on the switch, there is a yellow thing around it, which I assume hits things when you move the switch. I took it off to put on my other case, but I have no idea how to get it on. Can you assist me with that?

  • Hi keroberus,

I don't really recall how i did it since it's around 2yrs back?? But i remember i cut off something to allow that yellow thing to work. And if the screws doesn't screw in properly, try exchanging another same screw to put it in. If there's still any problems, do bring it to your nearest shop to check it out.

    Cheers =)

  • if u put one of the shiney ( external ) screw on the inside or an internal screw where the screw goes on the bottom it dont fit i found that out earlier i think there r 3 diff screws the short ones under the battery then the other 2 under the batt are the same as in internal ones and the ones that r sunk on the outside of the casing then the shiney silver ones that u can see while holding it !! i think i am right but may not be just my theroy on the screws lol !

  • also i just need the case because the latci is brokennot the dore but thepart tht is atached to the main part

  • hey i have one and the UMD dore always opens because the lock thing fell of but i have a replacement how can i take it of and put the new one on withought breaking the warenty seal unles that has expired (it is 2 or 3 years old) thanks

  • Hi there aviationcenter,

I doubt there's a way to get to the UMD door without breaking the warrenty seal because to reach the UMD, you have to open the psp casing.

    Cheers.

  • were can i find The Little Like Clear Cube, i lose it

  • Hi elmenene,

You mean the plastic contact at 2:40 time? You may want to try looking in ebay for spare parts or either ask your local repair store. Other than that, i'm not sure where to get it.

    Cheers. =)

  • wat type of screw driver did u use?

  • Hi archish,

I'm using a small screw driver for a normal philips(crosshead) screws for the psp. =)

  • So I did what you said about the UMD problem with the case getting in the way, but it still wont play with both of the UMD parts that I have. Any other suggestions?

  • For my case, i have to sand it and cut it again and again because it won't play after i assemble it the 2nd time. I had a few tries before it started to work in my case.

There are also few possibilities that it doesn't work. For example the connections or you've short circuit something during the process of changing etc etc. This you have to troubleshoot yourself.

    Cheers.

  • you broke my Fucking psp the umd wont play Fuck you

  • Have you even READ the video description?? I've stated there about the UMD problem.

  • OK, I have tried to replace my UMD drive with a new part that I ordered online but it still will not play my disk and I know for a fact the UMD works because I tried it on my neighbors PSP. So what could be wrong? The disk will spin for a second and then nothing. PLEASE HELP!

  • Click on the video description. It's stated about the UMD problem. Cheers.

  • There's nothing there.

  • Here's the video description on the right after you click the "more info" under the date:

    ***UMD PROBLEM***

If you found out that after you put in every single thing and your damn UMD DRIVE can't detect your umd (like mine, lolz..)

It might be the case fault..

    See here:

(can't post link here so check back the video description and right now, photo bucket is under site maintenance. )

I'm afraid i don't know any tutorial for a slim one though.

  • Darn, guess I'll have to read a guide, but videos are so easy to follow along!

    Thanks anyway.

  • Haha, you're most welcome. =D

  • I'm sorry, I dun wanna be that guy who watches a video, and asks only for the song, but what is that song? XD I swear I heard it from somewhere.

BTW Do you know of a tutorial for a slim one? I swear the only ones I found are fast forwarded vids, and vids that are taken from like 5 feet away from the PSP.

  • its the simple and clean instrumental track (from kingdom hearts)

  • Well I meant the first song, (I posted another comment saying the first one) but thanks anyway.

  • whats that little plastic piece called that you said dont looze kuz i kinda did

  • Hi dirtbikedude,

It's called the analog stick rubber contact.

  • Hey pika8387, Just wondering where i would get a clear case like yours!

just message the link to me or something. Thanks!

  • I got it from ebay last time. Not sure if it's still selling though.

    Cheers

  • Is there a place to find out what screws go where, since I forgot to label where I took them from and wouldn't mind finding out where they actually belong so as to avoid messing it up. Any help would be appreciated. Please and Thank you.

  • Hi ImmoKnight,

I'm afraid you have to search the net yourself as I'm not sure either.

    Cheers

  • llama their website has a tutorial and labels the screws

  • OMG ty so much 4 this awesome video it helped me SOOO much.

  • good video. This help me a lot. :D

  • hey... i need help...last time i tried to make a portable psp charger bud ended up frying my psp coz i plugged a 9v in the charger part....den if i want to repair i just open the yellow part ah?

  • Hi quaiboi, if you fried your psp, chances are both the motherboard circuits are damaged plus the power supply.

However, I can't be sure as I don't do repairs. You may want to bring your psp to check by the repair shop though.

    Cheers

    =)

  • so if i want my charger thing on my psp 2 work again i must go 2 the shop n change my motherboard??.......u think how much if i repair ah?

  • It really depends on how the shop decide to charge. So you might want to ask the shop for a diagnosis and troubleshoot on your psp first because it may be other problems causing it not to boot up.

  • what is the worst tt colud happen 2 mi psp....

  • thank you very much thiswas th only video on youtube that acually helped me

  • Great VIDEO :D it will help me with my clear case mod i'm gonna do!

And Inuyasha sure is one of the good anime around. =P

  • what can i do if some screws' head were broken?

How do i remove the screw then?

  • Hi there masterchiefv4,

You may wanna use small Pliers to remove them.

    Cheers

    =)

  • hello! this is a vid on how to disassemble your PSP. comments on looks should not be here. and anyway... which part of your comments is about the vid anyway?!?!

if you cant comment about the vid, then why bother commenting

  • hey, I disassembled my psp and put it back together today, and my mouse cursor goes down and to the right on it's own, even with the faceplate off. what could this be cause by? how would i go about fixing it?

  • Hi there dragonshadows, you might wanna check the plastic contact inside if it's place in the correct order. (the one which i mentioned not to lose it)

    Cheers

    =)

  • great vid mate, helped a lot, bought a psp off ebay worked fine then the screen cracked ;/ took apart followin your vid very thorough.

  • Lolz~ Glad to hear it works for you, Skr3wdriv3r

    =D

  • Epic!

I wish i'd watch this first. When I reassembled my PSP, I had four screws lying around. "Hmm, where did they go again?" Ah well, it still works anyway. ¬_¬

  • great video im 13yrs old and just took my whole psp apart but now i dont know how to put it back together

  • All I Have To Say Is That You Are A Strong Woman To Be Able To Do That .. Obviously More Than Once...

I Tried To Do My Little Brothers(12yo) And I(16yo) Broke His LCD Screen Straight In Half And I Felt So Bad But I Saved Up And Got Him A New Full Plate For Tha New Psp I Got Him And This Will Really Help I Plan On Doing It Tomorrow So I Will Tell You How It Goes .

    Thanks So Much ^_^

  • Hi nate,

Lolz~ you have no idea how many research i've read and done in order to figure out what is what and finally making this vid.. xD

Anyone can do it as long as you're very gentle with your psp. =D

  • how do i get the stickers out?

  • Hi there slaphappynoodle,

To get the stickers out, just gently pull it apart. If you're referring to the warranty stickers, there's no choice but the warranty will be void if you're doing modding yourself.

    Cheers~

    =)

  • haha i figured it out write after i said that,,the only reason i needed 2 take the faceplate off is because my left arrow wasnt working so i took all the screws out but one because i couldnt get it out so i gave up,,put all the screws back in,, and now the arrow works lol

  • Lolz~ Glad to hear that it works now~

    =D

  • holy shit thats too much

  • Do You Have to open up the lcd screen to fit the new flaceplate onn orr nott

  • Hi there tarequlhaque023,

Changing of faceplate ends at the video 1:05, so there's no need to take out the LCD screen.

  • is the LCD screen in direct contact with our hands or it has a thin plastic protection, that is shown outside the psp?

  • Hi there vicboechat,

If you touch the LCD screen itself, there's bound to be fingerprints there cos' there is No plastic protection and it's just the bare screen itself.

So for me, i just hold it by the side to prevent fingerprints.

    =)

  • you didnt understand.. i want to know if the faceplate has a "fake screen" that protects the real screen inside the psp. As if the faceplate working like glasses, when the eye its protected under the glasses. Hmmm, got it?

  • LOLZ~ i get what you're saying now, vicboechat..

Cos' you're asking me if the LCD screen is in direct contact, i thought you're asking about the LCD screen inside.

    xD

Well, as for the faceplate, it has a thin plastic protection, something like the original psp cover.

  • alright, maybe youre the wrong person to be talking to... maybe youre the right person... that first psp i did went perfectly. so then i went to do a second psp that had broken wi-fi (to see if i could fix it). i fixed the wi-fi problem and put everything back together, turned it on, and the screen wont turn on. i can here the sound of the sony splash logo, and i can press left/right and it obviously scrolls through the XMB, but the screen wont turn on.

  • i rechecked all of my work, and everything was done perfectly. all ribbon cables are attached and nothing looks broken... what could it possibly be? the screen worked fine before i disassembled, btw, and like i said i did the first psp just fine! any comments are appreciated.

  • Hi there Inhs2007,

Hmm.. as for the exact problem, i can't diagnose it since i'm not a professional repair person, lolz..

But it might be the case of using barehands to fix have the chance of getting something short circuit in the psp due to static electricity. So some others just wear those rubber surgeon gloves to prevent it.

So maybe it's due to the static electricity though.

  • thanks SO much for this video. i dont know why all these "how-to" "guide" and "tutorial" videos think that showing a video of them doing it at 10X is helpful. this is exactly what i had been looking for. thanks again for this great video! it helped me do my first psp!

  • Also, just a quick suggestion: could you upload a video of this in reverse, for the reassembly? I mean, you wouldn't even have to redo the video... just flip the video in your video-editing program and upload the backwards version. I would do this myself and post as a video response, but sadly I don't have any video editing software.... :(

    Just a thought.

  • Hi there Inhs2007~

Haha, thanks for supporting my video, I'm afraid i won't be able to do the reassembly video cos' my computer crash recently and i don't have the original file. Also, i'm using windows movie maker and i doubt there is any reverse function.

    Sorry about that. =(

  • hey pika8387....i got a problem with mi psp....the charging port.....i tried charging mi bro's psp n it charged....i switched our batteries n it charged.....n now if i want 2 charge mi bat....i need mi bro's psp....pls tell mi what's wrong with mi psp n pls tell mi how to fix it....thx..

  • hi there quaiboi,

can your bro's battery be charged in your psp?? if it can be charged, i'm afraid might be the battery problem though.

    =)

  • it can charge....both the batteries work ....(i tested on mi fren's psp).....but it's most likely the charging port on my psp that is spoil....i asked the repair person n he said it was arnd..erm......well i 4got bud it's quite expensive.....so if u suspect anything is wrong(wire nt connected or any other crap...) then do inform me.....btw wad country r u from??

  • hmm.. quaiboi, did you disassemble your psp before or it's suddenly turned out to be like that??

  • i dissembled it last time.....onli the faceplate....my screen was dusty....

  • hi quaiboi,

If you're using the same charger to charge both your bro and your psp, then maybe the problem lies in your psp charging port itself.

You might want to send it to a local store to further diagnose the problem.

    =)

  • o....ok thx anyway...:D

  • erm 1 more Q....if u game share must the other person have the same game??....

  • Hi there quaiboi,

Game sharing option in your psp does not require the other person to have the same game, however, there's limited option and gameplay if you share the game.

    Hope it helps.

    Cheers.

    =)

  • o....ok thx...:D

  • w8...did i post a comment already or do u have 2 accept it???.......

  • hey pika8387, my screw numbers 5&6 are stripped, bit 6 is just enough for the screwdriver's "teeth" to stay in place; but i dont wanna risk striping it more..): any suggestings?

  • Hi there Yahoodotcom,

For me i have a number of stripped screws on these 7 holes. So I just took it out and secure with a better screw on #2, #4, #6. Screw #7 is a must to secure and I leave the rest of the screwhole #1, #3, #5 empty and it works for me.

You may want to purchase new screws from hardware shop if you like.

    Hope these helps. Cheers~

    =)

  • thank you so much. i tried it and it took like 10 minutes to get it out but it worked :) breat video too

  • Lolz~ Glad to hear that chris21393.

    haha =D

  • screw # 3 = semi stripped and wont come out :(

  • Hi chris21393,

I encounter this problem as well and i use a small piler tool to slowly get the screw out.. It takes patient and time to get it off though.. Lolz..

    =P

  • thats inuyasha sang in the back round

  • i'm 100% percent sure this music is from Kingdom Hearts, dunno if 1 or 2

  • yeah i double checked, It's kingdom hearts 2

  • o! it sounds just like inuyasha i dont know if you know what im talking about but in the show inuyasha they have the same song

  • good guide but it sucks to reassemble you break our psp.. make a reassemble guide or leave youtube...

  • Hi there Ikhebsgeit,

I found a detailed video by FaT3oYCG1, he's doing the PSP reassemble.

I have no time due to heavy schedule, that is why i did not do this type of detailed video for PSP reassemble guide. Sorry for not leaving youtube then.

Hope you find the 3 parts "PSP Assembly" vid by FaT3oYCG1 useful.

    Cheers.

  • :(

I did this but my screen wont trun on :'( someone please help :'(

  • It's bricked.

  • hey on the tv show inuyasha they play this song but not an instrumental

  • the screws for the lcd brace. does it matter what order they should go? i forgot which one goes for which spot.

  • Hi there ledsilver, sorry for the late reply, was away for quite some time.

As for the lcd brace screw, some are different in length so you might wanna take note.

    Cheers~ =)

  • ok thanks

  • i put it back together everything works.. except it wont charge and it will run on external power but the battery wont charge. is it the battery or did i do something wrong???

  • Hi there feshiboy,

Regarding your battery problem, I'm not sure about why the battery won't charge though.

You may want to try on a new battery to see if it does charge? If it still doesn't charge, might be the pin problem =)

  • subscribed ^-^

  • Lolz~ Thanks alot, Reconiswhatweaimfor!! =D

  • I figured out why my psp analog was finally drifting. You know that clear part you said not too lose cause its irreplaceable, well i took it out to take a look at it, well, i put it in wrong, that clear piece has like 4 strings going down to touch the motherboard, and i accidentally placed it wrong to where the 4 lines were facing across and not down, i just had to switch it, and it worked!!!

well, there is my solution :D

  • Lolz~ I should try that next time if i have some free time left. Hahaz~

  • Is there any torx screws inside psp, or just philips screws?

  • Hi there juuso8989,

    Lolz~ Torx screws??

    You mean the star-shaped screws??

There's no torx screws inside the psp, cos' if it does, i won't be able to open it.

    Lolz~

    It's just the normal philips(crosshead) screws. =)

  • Hellow!!!

my frient give me a psp with broken screen...I remove it and I find a new on with 35$ from ebay...The question is when i try to open the psp the backlite open and and the power led but after 1sec close is this right...or there is more problems...

  • Hi there llabros,

Erm.. so did you replace the whole casing or just the lcd screen?

    =)

  • Its ok now...it works....

  • Lolz.. Glad that it works.

    Cheers~

    ^-^/

  • Thanks for posting this.

  • You're welcome, maganeox~

    =D

  • that's what i did, i took it completely apart, thinking it was friction from dust particles causing the problem, then i though the alignment inside the joystick was wrong, so i decided to fix that, then i decided maybe it's the spring in between the top and bottom plastic parts, but no. I am still trying to fix the problem, when i got my new faceplate, it looks like it came with a new chip for the joystick, maybe i will give that a try.

if i find any solutions, i'll tell you.
