no this phone came out before verizon started requiring the data plan for smartphones. you can just get the pay as you go plan with this phone.

@FMX900 I am not sure. i wrote that comment about a year ago so I don't know if Verizon's policies have changed. I would either go in or talk to customer service on the phone and tell them you want to activate it without the data plan. That's how I used it when I had that phone.

I just ordered mine for $150.00 at verizons website. Apparently you don't have to get a PDA data plan, but the do charge by the Kilobyte

i would get this if ONLY the screen wasnt off center. I dnt know why it is...maybe because of the scroll wheel or something? its annoying as hell well it isnt cosmetically even.

Back light is there.. just dig around the power management or whatever in the settings. I don't have the phone, but I read that somewhere else when someone asked the same question.
