  • The first movie now has a problem. When Christine's tombstone is shown she died at about the age of 60. And the sixty-something Raoul looks like the elder aristocrat he is; not some old drunk. Finally it is clear that the Phantom is still in France since he leaves a rose at her grave. This sequel leaves a real problem with story continuity.

  • Love Never Dies is a major slap in the face to fans of The Phantom of the Opera.

  • 'The Heart is Slow to Learn' has beautiful lyrics - 'Love Never Dies' has pathetic lyrics!

  • i love you

  • i respect your opinion. but really, think about this. people change over ten years of their life! are YOU the SAME you were ten years ago??exactly. So, raoul COULD in fact change over that time. And with the phantoms case, he could change also. America is a very different place than paris, and since he is more out and about in LND, rather than hiding in an opera house in POTO, he is going to be more social and mentally different. So yeah, people DO change, and so can the characters in the play.

  • @possessivepansy I agree that they could change, I just don't think that the way they changed works.

I just saw the original a few nights ago and it reaffirmed to me that there is no need for a sequel.

  • No meneace and horror are you KIDDING ME! This is not for you. But I saw the show last tuesday just got home.

WRONG! She doesn't choose to stay with Eric. The Phantom and Roaul make a bet if she sings he leaves if not Raoul takes her back. Gastov goes missing and finds meg with them then she shoots her.

  • @ThePhantomFanatic Yeah, but they make the bet without her knowing the consequences of her actions... Not very menacing to me, sounds like he took advantage of a poor drunk guy...

  • @animelover13579 Yes, but Raoul pissed him off by saying "I beat him once i can do it again." And the horror was when she got shot. I jumped three times during the show. I was in row G stalls. Freaking amazing SEATS!

  • rauol isnt a wife beater or a child abuser !

and also the phantom has changed because he is madly in Love With Christine !!

  • I believe Raoul says it best.

"Clearly, Madame Giry, genius has turned to madness."

The original changed my perception of music. Pity I've only seen/heard the film version.

  • @SquallLionhart409 I agree 100%. You should definitely see the stage show sometime, it's amazing.

Also, side note, FFVIII fan? I love Final Fantasy!

  • i love phantom i listened to lnd the ending is not that way he hold her in his arms as she dies then they kiss and what elese is he supposed to do just cry and let his son cry ya they can don tht but they have to move on

  • @TheLaurenk12 I know that that isn't the real ending, that's just the gist of it, and if you've seen my videos you know I don't like LND and so that was a satire of the ending. Just poking fun at it, it wasn't meant to be taken literally...

And I was commenting on how ridiculous it is that he first caused meg to shoot christine and then let the one who killed his love just hold her. I'd think he would fly into a murderous rage like the original would have, but that phantom is long gone in LND

  • @animelover13579 well she dosent actually hold her she just says i didnt mean to i already and phantom ius not long gone he is just different he finally is allowed to fit in and not have to be as lurking or murderous( as you put it ), and its ten years later things can chage raoul and phantom change and that is acceptable

  • @TheLaurenk12 Well, as I have said, I think that the drastic changes that happen aren't that true to character, but oh well. To each their own I suppose. You accept it, I don't.

  • Webber clearly does not understand the real appeal and mystique of the oriiginal Phantom. He simply doesn't get it.

  • i still kinda wanna see it, but why did they have to make meg and madame giry the bad guys, technically? they arev always the nice good ones.

  • I think everybody has to make his own decision on this musical. I have to agree that the ending sucks!!! But the music is amazing, I love the tunes. The story is wobbly, I have to admit. The first show was mind blowing of course, but the second one has to be appreciated for its music. I totally aggree on the story line, it is - to put it mindly- horrific. But I have to say all in all I like the show.

  • nice review. I am myself bitterly disappointed that ALW decided to "embellish" the Story presented to him by Frederick Forsyth. Although the novel had its faults, it at least followed faithfully the spirit of the Original.

    Sigh...

  • the ending of "The Phantom of Manhattan" had The Phantom's "Apprentice" shoot to kill the son (who he thought the Phantom was using to replace HIM) but Christine throws herself in the way and Dies. The Phantom then murders his "Apprentice" in a rage and you have Raoul, Phantom, Gustav and Meg (she is Christine's dresser in this version) mourning over the body.

  • I can't seem to connect this to the original... It's literally impossible! The characters are shallow, the plot loose and corny, the music sounds like children's rhymes, it lacks all the deep seriousness of the first, etc etc. What true poto fan could truly appreciate this? Thanks for the post.

  • I COMPLETELY understand your POTO obsession. I have never considered getting a tattoo but I think yours is completely awesome. That is something so close to my heart that I wouldn't mind having it on my skin.

It's good to know another college aged girl shares my obsession! You're awesome

  • Thankfully someone does! I love knowing other people share my obsession. It makes me feel a bit less odd lol. Thanks for commenting!

  • oh, btw, that isn't really how it ends. Gustave IS traumatized after Christine's death, and he screams when he realizes Phantom's his father. It ends when Gustave takes his mask off and doesn't flinch at the deformity (A little more touching than my explanation but yeah lol)

And I don't get the whole meg holding her thing either. Where did that come from?

  • Regardless of the ending, what makes this awful is the raping of great characters and a soap opera, cheap romance novel plot.

  • Yeah, I figured it was a little better than that, I was just making a joke about it. Because at this point, I just have to laugh at the ridiculousness.

  • Personally, I loved Love Never Dies, at least the music, and the story told through the music. The only part that bugged me was the instrumental ending, after "Kiss me one last time." I thought that the music was going to be, like, really dramitic and sad, like the movie ending to Sweeney Todd. Instead, it a flute playing "Beautiful" UHH!

  • I love your tattoo!

  • Alright, I had a lot of problems with the plot, but I can understand the appeal and I actually get the ending...but yeah it is really stupid and poorly poorly written....but not to worry...I hear some talk that he will re-write the ending for Broadway due to all the negative feed-back....

  • Yeah, EVERYONE pretty much told him the ending was far too drawn out, and then there was no closure in the music.

I'm glad he's redoing the end.

  • LMFAO about leroux estate stuff. And i do agree with you. The music in the show is good, but the storyline has no horror or suspense, and the characters are horrible.

  • Everyone, The Love should Die anti-sequel facebook page has been shut down by someone!!!!!!!!!! Make another video, blog, get the word out and demand our right to free speech to be against this!!!!!!!!!

  • New Vid already up

  • @sopapilla19 Ahk!! I know!!

    TAKE ACTION!

  • TAKE ACTION!! Contact the media, people!!

  • I'm sorry, to whom are you referring? ALW? I don't care if he doesn't need my money, I am simply stating an opinion. Who is always in love with Christine? ALW, then my dear friend, you are the one who needs to learn the difference between life and musicals, as ALW is happily married and he and the original Christine divorced years ago. I don't see what that has to do with anything...

If you are referring to the Phantom, I never said he didn't love her, so please don't put words in my mouth.

  • @animelover13579 Seriously. This is just a show. Go out. Get drunk. Go to a bar and pull a hot guy. Go to Europe and do some traveling. Go to Ibiza and get wasted. Seriously, POTO is not your life partner. Take a break from all this hate and willed negativity. It is just a show.

  • PotO is just really important to me. I can't explain it, but it means a lot to me, so when something that I feel isn't right happens, I react. I know it's kind of weird, but this is how I'm coping.

  • @mushypeas10 that was AWESOME! AGREED!!!

  • I'm sorry what the heck are talking about? Who loves Christine? The way you talk is very confusing and no one knows what you are talking about. Sounds like you might need to see a doc.

  • At first I thought the sequel was like a terribly written fan fiction come to life. *shudder* But what made me feel better about it is I try not to think of it as the Andrew Lloyd Webber sequel, but the Susan Kay novel sequel.

    Ahhh, much better. :)

  • You go!!! I hate the plot of this being a relativaly new phan (only about 2 years) and having read the book, seen the movie, and listened to the cd like to many times to count, this plot anges me.

  • nice. i hate it too...

  • Sure he can, but I don't think Raoul would personally. And I'm not stupid, I know people get divorced.

To quote the movie, "Clearly, genius has turned to madness."

So what you think he is a genius? I think he is a great musician but isn't using his judgment very wisely on this one... IF he uses it for the wrong reason, I have every right to criticize him.

  • I never said that you were "stupid" these are your own words. Yes you have the "right" to voice your opinion; I however shall give the man the benifit of the doubt and following his "track" record; he hasn't been wrong very often. His fans know his work and the critics shall have their pound of flesh as they always do..par for the course.

  • I mean, I know a lot of people who hate his musicals and wouldn't consider him a genius at all. I think he has had quite a few misses actually, even though I'm a fan. To each their own I guess, but Love Never Dies is DEFINITELY not mine at all.

And it isn't just about the music, because some of the LND music is good, but ALW chose a bad plotline and bad lyricist, which also contribute to LND being sub par (in my opinion, and many others)

  • Exactly. As a fan I definitely don't deny his talent because of his string from Joseph to Sunset, all have good music and relatively good story lines (though story wise I don't get get Cats). All talents have their share of flops but Andrew has just gone mad with I don't know what. Greed, disappointment at recent flops maybe etc. A few good songs can't make up for terrible characterization just like special effects in a movie.

  • P.S At least the recorded movie implies she stayed with Raoul, lived a long life and we can assume Meg didn't go psycho bitch because I doubt Raoul would acknowledge her mother if anything like that happened. With luck there will never be a movie sequel of this.

  • Also, I'm pretty sure the prologue of the stage show is supposed to take place in 1905. Which messes up the timeline a lot...

  • I'm glad you posted this. I am heartbroken the characters were so smeared on with you know what. It is like a god awful fan fiction. The great thing about the original is they are more real as characters. The Phantom is a deep and passionate person but damaged, Raoul is boring but has a good heart. Christine is compassionate but weak willed. Making Meg the villain is an abomination. Flawed and real! The great thing is we can always pretend it doesn't exist.

  • I agree, and don't worry, it doesn't exist in my bookd

  • Read the book its based off of. I hate the ending it sucks! I mean seriously how could they -ugh it's so sad.

  • You know whats terrible about LND? That the plot is WORSE than Phantom of Manhattan. At least Meg Giry didnt go batcrazy and try to drown kiddies in that one.

  • Also, instead of performing LND, couldn't they perform the Ken Hill production of Phantom of the Opera? I have heard that there are people who would love to see it, but never had the oppurtunity...

  • I'd be all for that!

  • I love the song "Floating High Above" from that production...

    :-)

  • The last scene you performed was probably one of the funniest things I have seen today. Keep up the ranting!!!

  • Marriage in aristocratic circles was always for reasons of property and family ... any aristocrat worth his salt maintained a stable of opera singers

The idea that Raoul & Christine could live happily ever after is bad fan fiction.

    1) How could Christine still be an opera singer and live her dream while being a Vicountess which means she now has to join her husband and attend court parties where at least 90% of the aristocratic men had svereal opera singers as mistresses.

  • I'd say ALWAYS is too much of a generalization.

How is it a bad fanfiction? Maybe they didn't stay in aristocratic circles, or even in France. Paris isn't the only place with an opera house... Now you're insulting Raoul and Christine fans...

Who cares if she has to attend parties? She's not a mistress, so what should it matter?

  • 2) If Christine entirely gave up her life as a singer and spend her days living as any aristocrat, would that truly make her happy?

    3) If Raoul lost his title and inheritage and Christine had to sing to paythe bills, wouldn't that put a strain on their puppy love romance?

  • I don't see how this is relevant, considering Raoul never said she'd have to give up her life, everyone just assumes it. Maybe she did, maybe she didn't. Perhaps she wanted to settle down and have a family, you don't know what she was thinking...

Does LND explicitly SAY he lost his title and I think you mean inheritance? In the stage show, there isn't really much outside objection to their love, nobody steps up and says she isn't worthy...

  • I just want to respond to those who claim that LND fans are bad fanfiction fans.

The idea that the Phantom & Christine belongs together and are each others true love & share a deep soulful union that is out of this world, is not bad fanfiction.

  • I'm sorry, what exactly are you trying to prove? I NEVER said that LND fans were bad fanfiction fans. My video is not the place to rant about people calling you names, as I have not done so...

SO you think that the love between an insane deformed murderer and an opera star would be more likely to succeed? Why, just because they both love music?

  • hell yes. speak the truth!!

  • He did admit he reused the song "Love Never Dies" it on the website

  • Alright, he deserves some credit for it, but it still is annoying to a lot of fans (not me much, I don't like the song Love Never Dies anyway so it isn't a big deal to me)

  • @1:44 - BURNED!!! X3 You told him. And, OH MAN, Whiney Puppy Erik!! Eww! That's worse than Drunk Raoul!!! I knew they made him a sap and erased his redemption by having him go back to the stalker he was, but I didn't know they took that route! (I sympathize with you on the entire procrastination thing. I too am a broke college student currently studying in Japan for my major.)

I am grateful to you, friend, for putting your sanity on the line by dealing with this crappy show! Bravo!

  • Excellent vid. You speak the truth, my friend.

(And I totally loved the Les Mis reference.)

  • Great, as always. :)

  • I think that the false advertisting is crappy. I hope this goes the way of Dance of the Vampires.

  • this is truly amazing im glad that u are using the negative information about the show for a good cause to teach and inform others of the murder of what was once beautiful and holy. thank you

  • I would also like to point out that I was sobbing with laughter when you acted out the end. Your facial expressions are priceless!

  • That was the most fun to make out of the whole video!

  • You look lovely in this video, and I love your tattoo! I love your sarcasm and the comments that you write in. I would love to see you express yourself on a happier subject, since you do it so well!

  • Thanks! Someday I hope to make a video expressing happier things relating to Phantom!
