Shinji isn't miserable he's lost. He doesn't understand his place in the world.  He does what others want of him because he believes it earns him a place and a right to exist. He's the personification of self-sacrifice, essentially living his life for the benefit of others. When he finally manages to attach to something and somebody he wants for himself and is denied...well we've all seen EoE.

I've also seen the new movie, thank goodness for the internet.

It's very well done and definitely a lot less complicated. Although I found the angel numbers confusing, that could just be the sub though...they started on four and they seemed to talk about 14 angels in total.

I hope the movie does come out in Europe cinemas, i'd love to drag my friends to see it and show them the Evangelion love.

I've seen the first movie and yes it was a summary of the series... It was a lot easier to understand though... They did a really good job doing this... Now a lot more people will appreciate Evangelion...

the storyline will also be different and less confusing, this is gonna be Evangelion for dummies basically lol with cooler graphics, thats what i heard, make it more palatable to a wider audience.

I doubt this version of NGE will be any easier to understand. If you'll remember, the first part of the TV series was pretty to understand, too. Supposedly, Rebuild is what happens after EoE, and Shinji's actions in that movie basically reset the world. It's complicated.
