  • @TheYuck23 I'm not a technical support line - especially if you insult me! Ask Panasonic or a shop which sells them to help.

  • Thats Queenstown, New Zealand. Taken from the top of the gondola. Awesome place!

  • I have a question maybe someone can answer. I own the Panasonic DMC-TZ4 which is 8mp and is a couple of years old. One problem with the video is with Continious Auto Focus which really plays havok with the video as it constantly searches for focal points. Panasonic recommends you turn this off for best results. I'm looking to upgrade and this camera looks good. Have Panasonic fixed focus problems with these Lumix cameras? my TZ4 had a firmware update which helped with Macro mode a little.

  • Hi, I wanna Buy this Camera, but I have 2 Questions, what's the differences with the panasonic lumix dmc fx 500 and the panasonic lumix dmc fx 550 ?? and witch is better?

    Thanks

  • I would like to know the answear too! There seems to be little that splits them apart.

  • Does it have a wrist strap?

  • == of course, these days, every compact camera offer a wrist strap.

  • I like the view! :D

  • i got stuck on getting the battery out can u help it not the i`m dump it just that that on e is different

  • can you crop photos you've taken? what other cameras have the cropping option...

  • better is TZ5

  • TZ5 is not touchscreen, not as wide angle, not as fast, not as compact, poorer photos indoors.

  • touchscreen IS UNNECESSARY

    TZ5 IS WIDE

    best quality/prix

  • FX500 is 25mm wide angle instead of TZ5 is 28mm. FX500 lense is faster at wide angle and better for indoor use: f2.8 vs. f3.3. TZ5 does not fit in your pocket as nice. Both are decent cameras.

  • Wonder how Panasonic FX500 compares to Fujifilm F100fd? Can any pro give comments? Thanks a lot!

  • I brought this camera FX-520 1 month ago. I brought it in HK for HK$2,480. (US$317).

I like it very much, and it picture and video quality are very good. Much better than my old Lumix DMC-FX9.

  • you got a good deal on it

  • nice review, one thing, I'm missing various shutter lags info in your reviews, half pressed, fast AF, etc.

  • can you zoom this camera when in video mode? If not what are the other digital camera's that you know of that has this capability. Thanks!

  • watch the video around 8:40. he said no

  • Whats the video sound like in movie mode as the TZ5 records allegedly aweful hissy sound.

  • amazing...good review and good camera. im gonna by it soon! :D

  • Great review as always, seems like quite a lovely compact despite no raw capture. How does the screen hold up to fingerprints and dirt?

  • It does get some fingerprints... see our review at cameralabs . com.

  • good review, thanks

  • This looks like the FX520 not 500 which one is this?

  • They're the same camera - see the intro page of our review at cameralabs . com.

  • should i buy the nikon coolpix s600 or the fx500?

  • I haven't seen the coolpix s600, so can't say, sorry!

  • I have one of these and its fantastic!!!

  • Wow I'll buy it o_O :D

  • Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX500

    Wow what a camera!

  • love your reviews! everything is clearly explaint.

one thing i love about the FX500 is the touch screen that allows u to select the focusing point, good work!

  • Mr. Gordon have a splendid view. I think he lives in "Queenstown" on "Lake Esplanade" in "Sunshine Bay" just near "Lake Wakatipu" and the peninsulas you see in his reviews are "Queenston Gardens" and "Kelvin Heights Golf course". That's a very nice location Gordon; and I really love your reviews. The website is also very good! Cheers man and keep up the good work!

  • Wow , what a view !! where do u live ?

  • Queenstown in New Zealand's South Island...

  • Gordon ... THE TIME HAS COME!....TO PUT YOU ON THE SPOT! :D ... THE Panasonic FX500?...or...TZ5?... Which Do YOU Prefer? :D

  • Depends how much you want the 10x zoom of the TZ5 or the touchscreen of the FX500! I've compared them on the verdict page of the FX500 review at cameralabs . com...

  • touch screens are realy hiting the market especialy phones and cameras

  • I realy dont like those giant screens, they're fragile, batt consuming, expensive and pointless. A 2.5"/230k pixel screen is just ideal, plus, it leaves some space to more buttons.

  • Some of us have compromised vision, like most anyone over forty has loss of accommodation, and then the bigger screens are great helps.

  • Finally, reviews on digital-compact-cameras...

  • Hey MandeepGadgetBoy, if you click the reviews section at cameralabs . com you'll see we've tested virtually the same number of compacts as we have DSLRs! There's just been a run of DSLRs recently...

  • That's great! - Digital cameras are now eqiped with HQ video functions, but you can't zoom. On some, you can zoom with digital zoom, but I've never see an optical zoom...

  • There's an optical zoom while filming on the Panasonic TZ5 and Sony S5 IS...

  • Is there some kind of technical reason why you can't zoom when filming, or is it Panasonic being deliberatly annoying?

  • It's a wonder that Gordon's expansive head does not simply explode with fury over such frequent viewer inattentiveness...

To answer your question: Panasonic are indeed, being "deliberately annoying". Don't forget to visit the cameralabs web site for a full review.

  • We have a Puck at work here, a good one!

  • I think there's definitely an aspect of Panasonic being deliberately annoying (!) but as you can see in our TZ5 video, there were focusing issues when you zoomed during filming. Maybe they don't want to damage their camcorder sales!

  • What program do you use to edit your videos? Bet it's something fancier than Windows Movie Maker.. Or am I wrong? :)

  • I use Adobe Premiere to edit the videos, but I compress the rendered AVI with Windows Movie Maker into a WMV which is then uploaded to Youtube - phew!

  • thats my next camera

  • that touch-screen looks interesting!

  • I love you Gordon. You are lovey.
