  • i thought the man with the orange guitar was randy rhoads

  • is that scott travis on drums??

  • @TheKampman yes

  • Jason Becker and Marty Friedman were as good.

  • 2:26 LOL i love it every time

  • Gotta love the 80's solid state amps, they do have a time and a purpose lol.

  • @CocoaLopez19 Oh, you mean the Jose Arredondo and Metaltronix amps in the video were solid-state? And here, I thought all this time those tubes and super-heavy transformers served a purpose other than useless weight.

  • @CocoaLopez19 ummmm...metaltronix amps were not solid state...i still own mine and it's 100% tube

  • rofl - look at these bass player's boots ...

  • As much as I LOVE racer X, they always had the worst tone in the 80's..

  • @AdamDallas dude their tone was amazing, i think its jus the crappy quality of the ancient 80's recordings that does em no justice...

  • Do you know how hard it is to find a video of Bruce without Paul Gilberts name somewhere

  • I wish i had scott travis' legs... they are double bass machine guns!!!

  • How the fuck...juan..how do you do those runs with only two fingers on your right hand...

  • is this the formation after PG left Racer X for Mr.Big?

  • @ditoarch06 Yep. It sho nuff is. Paul Gilbert left the group for Mr. Big. Racer X had some cool concerts in the Hollywood/San Fernando Valley area of California in the late 80s. The clubs were packed! The speakers were highly stacked. Those were some fun times.

  • @MishuTaste that's how heavy metal should be dude! rock on

  • @prodigytobe24 its technically both their songs

  • @prodigytobe24 are you being serious? you're kidding right?

  • Damn I wonder who's better between Paul and Bruce. I want to say Paul but Bruce is just..wow. he can keep up with Paul and sometimes he has harder parts.

  • Old music shits on Faggotforce anyways.

  • i love this look... and the guitar finishes, and the amp colors...

  • wow dude some bass part are freaking impossible

  • pauls is still the best

  • It's such a mindfuck seeing Juan Alderete with that long metal hair. What a talented and well rounded musician!

  • Holy slop.

  • the other guitarist is a guy called chris arvin. he replaced paul when he joined mr big. i read this and have never seen this guy doin anything else. he briefly replaced paul and then the band fell apart.

  • aha!

I would love to see Paul live one day here in denmark while doing a clinique or something else!!!

    Dimarzio are the best pickups!

  • @bernhardtsen74 im suprised he hasnt been to denmark. he has even been to belfast. i saw him in dublin doing a clinic 5 years ago and then last year he played a gig in belfast with his band, amazing

  • he went here last year, but it was not a good day for me to go that day!

I prefer to play with his picks but now im leaning into thicker picks!

  • @bernhardtsen74 yeh def grab the chance to see him next time if you can . he is amazing. unlike alot of players he teaches with a clean tone aswell. no hiding !

yeh his picks are nice, jazz 3's are my choice at the minute. thick enough, but i like the size aswell.

  • I have heard a lot of praise for those picks! Will try them soon!

  • @bernhardtsen74 yeh - Dunlop jazz 3's. def worth a go !

  • is that the drummer from judas priest?

  • yes it is. when racer x split scott travis joined judas priest around 1990 and started playing on painkiller. which clearly set the drums apart from any priest record before. He is still with them today.

  • @chuckrocks69 cool, thanks for the info

  • Scott Travis!

    drummer for Judas Priest indeed!

  • Is the original in d standard? I read that somewhere, not sure if it's true I love this song. Sounds heavier here.,

  • Pure thouroghbred band!

Nobody in this band was born to play regular speed metal!

    All Virtuosos!(paul my fav)!

  • paul gilbert wasnt in this video! its some other guy called chris arvin who briefly replaced paul when he left.

  • Good lord how can that bassist play like that, and he plays so well kick ass too.

  • Correct me if I am wrong but he plays that well due to the position of the bass being higher up for better control, he appears to use at least three fingers to pick, and a lot and this is really the important part of practice more than you or I are willing to do. I don't know you so don't take that the wrong way but I can assume that he has practiced more than you can I not.

  • bruce bouillet and paul gilbert could smoke anyone in dragonforce....or anyone for that matter lol

  • while i dont fully understand your reply, i must say i may have been misread. Im merely reiterating what someone else said: that as far as chops go, bouillet and gilbert dedicated their lives to clean playing, while herman li cant get through an interview playing cleanly, or without talking about one of the gimmicks used in his songs.

  • I agree with your statement, I used to be able to play at speeds near Herman (granted not as complex or diverse) but I was sloppy and now I have began to focus more on technique it is very very grueling but if you listen to a lot of popular guitarist some are fast some aren't but usually they are clean. These guys happen to do both, will DragonForce doesn't. Most of it has to do with their logic Herman says that he records solos until he gets them right when he should do it until he can always.

  • @RobSoundtrack

    Anyone say

    Jason Becker and Marty Friedman?

    :)

  • @jonfensu probably too ;D

but it's hard to say who is better when they are all so damn close to absolute perfection of their skillz

  • @jonfensu

Marty, Jason, Paul and Bruce where the best guitarist of the 80's ^^.

    No Comment please

  • @gunsproof .... I'd agree with your list if it had Chris Impelletieri. =)

  • @RobSoundtrack cool story bro (Y)

  • @RobSoundtrack What is "Dragonforce" ? ^^ XD

  • @RobSoundtrack what about Chris Broderick with Jeff Loomis or Jason Becker with Marty Friedman :C?

  • those are ibanez??? id kill for one of these guitars

  • Yep. During the heyday of Racer X, Ibanez sponsored Paul, Bruce, & Juan. You can see old ads of them in late 80s Guitar World magazines.

  • wait, this song isn't originally by paul gilbert?

  • yes, but in 1989 paul and jeff left, they got some guy named chris arvan for guitar, played a couple shows, then finally disbanded

  • No.

  • @MysteryMan1889 This is songi is by Racer x band, where Bruce and Paul play togheter

  • @MysteryMan1889 They were in the same band (Racer X) so I think they composed the song together.

  • *paul gilbert i wrote it wrong sorry i i dont said i mean juan i mean bruce bouillet and i am right that paul is better!!^^

  • this is so 80s haha

  • yeah it's back in the day when playing technical was rad. there was no one else in their time playing like this. nowadays kids are all into dragon force. where do you think those guys learned their chops from? your looking at it man.....

  • yeah you gotta love neoclassical/power metal

  • dude dragonforce has no chops they suck balls, only reason people talk about them is cause that fag jack osbourne told his mommy sharon to put them on ozzfest a while back and now out of no where they are the band with the 'best' guitarists ever. what a bunch of wankers

  • I personally thought it was because of guitar hero.

  • @megahdeth agreed dragonforce bore me ! they seem to have some ability but ive seen some footage and lessons. really sloppy and half assed !

  • i think aul gilbert is better

  • Dude... Juan is their bassist, not their guitarist. Get it in your head.

  • Chirs Aravan is the other guitar player I belive

  • Scott Travis had a badass drumkit.

  • Juan has HUGE hair.

    As huge as XBox, even.

  • nice boots juan

  • who is the other guitarrist?

  • Paul Gilbert?

  • no!!!

  • Mate!!! i want bass fingers like that man!!!

  • that bassist is good shit. bass sweep!

  • John Alderete!

  • Comment removed

  • too much reverb on everything

  • thats the 80s

  • juan alderete is a beast

  • Bruce is a bit smoother or looser than Paul ...the notes aren't as machine gun-like.

  • This is good shit!!!!! ;D

  • yeah i think pauls is better, but bruce is still an amazing guitarist, and the bassist in this song is better than the bassist on pauls version

  • its the original racer X bassist in this one

  • you think paul is better?....paul IS better.....

  • @anguskicksass thats because its the original bassist from Racer X! haha

  • @anguskicksass

That's cause John Alderete (as he was known then) is the original bass player from Racer X.

  • @anguskicksass I don't know, Bruce was coming up with things that Paul had a lot of difficulty playing, like the intro to motorman!

  • @anguskicksass ...The bass guitarist in this video is the same bass guitarist that plays in the studio version of Scarified, Juan(John) Alderete :P

  • paul gilberts version is way better

  • why does the video freeze at :43?

  • Is second guitarist Chris Arvan?

  • Yes he is.

  • great cover great song

  • I used to ride my bike up to the music store in Vincennes where Bruce worked and here him practice late at night.

  • his tone sounds almost as bad as my cranked $15 FAB metal distortion pedal through my 15 watt jumpstart ibanez amp, also cranked on its distortion. dont worry, i'm upgrading soon.

  • Is the bassist... sweeping... :O goddamn

  • with no pick

  • no he's not

  • i love you just can't even hear any notes rofl. 2 guitars + 80s = cheese.

  • That Bassist is insane.

  • That entire band is insane

  • Juan Alderete? Is he the brother of John Alderete?:D He is also the bassist of Racer X so there's no wonder he's in this video.

  • juan alderete is john alderete lol

  • @metalguitarist11 john alderete is juan alderete because he's mexican

  • @Marcosgroso07 i was saying they are the same person

  • @metalguitarist11 i know

  • @metalguitarist11 ajajajajja XD

  • LOL!!!!

  • jajajaja infame

  • tahat sounded horrible the distortion was way to sharp and heavy .........paul gilberts better at this song in my oppinion

  • Scott Travis from Judas Priest is on the drums. He does look similar, though...

  • alice cooper on drums?

  • yes.

  • Man Juans fingers at 0:37 geez... what a beast. I wonder if hes still with the mars volta right now

  • lol chris screws up at :50 an dont get me started on the end arps. one take!!! WOOOO

    love you bruce

  • did the drummer is actually in Judas Priest?

  • yep thats scott travis

  • negative, but hes the closest there is to him

  • and ritchie Kotzen? He kinda fit in with mr big as much as paul did?

  • hahaha i dont think so personally

  • sound engineer must be a drummer for the live part

  • asshole :)

  • Bruce is just as talented as Paul...by the way what is this instructional DVD called??

  • it's called Backstage Pass

  • the other guitarplayer is chris arwan who briefly replaced paul gilbert in the end of the racer x era

  • Correction: Chris Arvan

  • i just noticed juan elbowed it last few notes! LOL

  • that basist is sick, i didnt know he's in mars volta now

  • basist of mars volta

  • thats the guy from Mars Volta on bass? crazy

  • Paul and Bruce!

    What an incredible duo.

  • pAUL ISN'T IN THIS VIDEO

  • Cool, i never said he was!

  • this is one of my all time faves from Racer X, and Bruce is so underrated, nice that this poster included bruces solo from Live Extreme Volume. Bruce is a sweep master. anyone else getting these annoying bleep sounds while watching this?

  • i've always loved this song. brilliant. but whoever edited the video doesn't know what a guitar solo is.

  • i love the live solo at the end!!!

  • thats a solo Bruce does on the "Live Extreme Volume Racer X record if your interested

  • Bruce has a great vibrato

  • whos the other guitarist? Bruce is the one with the Red guitar right? prett cool video

  • That shredding at the beginning of the credits is insane..

  • ... Juan is just ridiculous with his finger speed and accuracy

  • Damn right!

  • i've never seen a guy sweep on a bass like that!

  • idiot...juan never sweep in that song just sound like...practice more w/ your chicken ear

  • acually it wasnt a sweep but an arpeegio if he would of had a pick he could of sweeped dumb ass

  • who says you can't sweep with your fingers or thumb

  • because it is not a sweep with i m rest stroke

  • Man I really love Juan, but those boots....man they have to go. Yuck!

any idea why Paul wasn't in this vid?

  • I think this was shot after Paul left Racer X to join Mr. Big

  • Juan Juan Juan!!!

  • JUUUUAN! :) awesome stuff man!

  • how the fuck does Juan move his fingers sooo fast!!!! he is incredible!

  • he said he's double-jointed

  • oh yeah, i read that.lol i named my mexican fender jazz after him.lol

  • guys can you quit comparing paul and bruce they both are amazing and different and it's not about how many records you make it's about your playing and they both are very good at it!

  • Wow.. guess I could have read the credits huh..

  • Anyone know who that other guitar player is in this vid?

Wonder why Paul is the only person from the band not playing in this vid...

  • Racer X

    Paul Gilbert also on guitar

and Scott Travis (Judas Priest) on drums

  • that base player was smokin'!

  • John Alderette SMOKES that bass like cheap cigarette............

  • Juan's gone a long way hahaha

  • juan looks that kinda does a sweet picking but without puck, haha, he's such a beast!

  • wow that's a lot of amps...

i wish i could play with that many amps

  • Most of them are probably dummy cabinets anyway

  • props, probably?

  • exactly

  • exactly wrong. paul used all 9 of his cabinets live AND in practice. he even admits it on his website AND has the hearing charts to proove it.

thats why he wears earphones live now. to protect him from going completely deaf with what hearing he has left in his opposite ear.

  • That would be fuckin loud 9 cabs man that is insane.

  • alderete is good, but he´s wasting time on mars volta, i can´t pass the "alternative" music

  • That's Scott Travis on drums. With the exception of Paul missing from this video, this is Second Heat Racer X

  • dammit i've learned paul's part but where can i find the harmony part?

otherwise i'll have to do it myself, and there are so many notes!

  • i'm pretty sure it's just diatonic thirds.

  • holy shit..this guys are awesome!!!!

  • inspirational....
