was in row 4. Nvver imagined we,d be saying goodbye to Leroi. Was a great show. Thank you closer was alota fun. Return of "space"....From new york. Did friday night i hershey park pennsylvania, next in virginia.......I regret nothing....cept never doing long road trip to see them earlier
Reliving "hammer" It was great...i lost about a pound during this performance. Also this was the best show i had seen....thank you as the finale..Dave dancin at the end...priceless. Best show until spac 09 n2......That was like a 3 hour orgasm
No disrespect ......but if you saw sledghammer in chicago thats great, but it wasnt played by dmb. I vivdly remember the complete surprise of the first sledghammer they pulled outa nowhere on that nite. I also just cheked the almanac just to be sure
ummm.... i thought Peter Gabrielle (spelling?). Same one that did Solsbury Hill and played with the group Genesis. Peter could've written it but I doubt it...
Originally didn't care for DMB in 97, saw roanoke98 front row 1st time, blowin away since then.
LeRoi is the man. Damn those ATV I guess my dad was right, they are bad news. Hence if a tree wasn't there when I was younger, I would have fell over a 30ft cliff. Go figure. Greatest Band ever, Can't wait until June 2
I was there also. Great show. I really love listen for a note or two in between songs to try and guess what is next. I heard the flute and I was like, it can't be and it was. RIP Leroi! After reading things, I didn't realize he was as that much into the music as to composing it with dave. It won't be the same, but it's another chapter in DMB. I think it would be cool though if they had a ray of light now in his position on stage where he would be.
I was at that concert!!!!! I sat on the front on the lawn!! I was wearing a DMB shirt! I was on vacation at VA!! What a trip I'll never forget!!!!!! Great Setlist!!!!! RIP LeRoi
I was at that concert! It was the most amazing experience of my life! The band was incredible (accompanied by Tim Reynalds), I was lucky enough to see LeRoi's final performance. God Bless!
I seen him June 13th at DTE music theatre in MI and then July 5th (Rothbury Music Festival)I saw DMB without him. and then I read the news of him dieing in August today. Damn, he will definantly be missed.
I wish I could have gone to this show. I saw him and the band at the Nissan back in 2002 or so when Dave did a cover of Ring of Fire which was after Johnny Cash passed away.
Great concert, and LeRoi was excellent as always. He will be missed. He even sounded great when they were rehearsing. I will never forget that.
AGGGGHHHH!!! I'm going to miss LeRoi So much. He was the sax player that inspired me to keep playing my bari-sax. He was an integral part of DMB. We all lost a great sax player and heaven just got another one. Thanks for posting this great clip!!
BTW...This cover might be better than the original.I saw DMB last month here in Denver & they played this song.Unfortunately i didnt have LeRoi @ my show. :(
Great performance! I just cant beleive he will never be standing up on that stage again. His music was a good friend to all of us and it will live on forever!! Thank you Roi!!! You touched millions of people and so, you deserve to be in the company of God.

Not the first time they played Sledgehammer. Saw it a few weeks earlier than this in Chicago. Good version though.

I like it when bands play covers, note for note instead of trying to make it "their own". Well done DMB!
jzzbss5 3 years ago
It's pretty close, but they jam it out a lot more than the original (especially the outro and Tim's guitar solo).

There's so much joy in this performance, and videos like this are the best way to remember LeRoi. Rest easy, LeRoi.

People could probably argue all day over whether this or the original by Gabriel is better, but for me personally, I like the DMB cover more!

@jmuduke99 It's a bari sax man. I get chills every time LeRoi plays his bari or tenor too personally.

change "DMB" in title to Dave Matthews Band - You'll get more traffic. Clean shot - Better sounding than others on youtube.
