  • Mr.Michael Rogge, I am proud to say that I am trichyite by birth and i love my city. I felt bad that we are living in a mechanic & polluted world. This video gives me a feeling of how my parents and forefathers would have led their lives. Thank you for a grear memorable video. How is it possible for you get the video, & from whom did you get it? How did you digitized it? Great...! I love my Trichy....!

  • @gmlochani . Nice to hear of you. I bought this 16mm film in Holland as I thought it interesting. Both Trichy and Madurai were featured in the documentary. I had it digitalized by a laboratory subsequently and made two clips of it which are widely viewed, be it that there is more interest in Madurai than Trichy. See my other clips of old India by searching with michael+rogge+india

  • @MichaelRogge Thank you verymuch for the response, sir. Great job. Let God bless you.

  • please show the old madras trichnapalli during cricket match hit movie it is vackup call for greener now chennai trichy

  • Now we don't have to carry water from far just for bath, cooking etc. thus freeing up time. Electric freed up the most time in the form of rice cooker, Refs etc.. We now have money. SO WHAT DO WE DO WITH FREE TIME? Sitting in fron of tv, PC, texting & shopping for items we don't need to impress people we don't like. With all these preoccupations we are forgetting our culture and its taboos i.e drinking and so rural alcoholism is rampant. We really "developed" since 1945! We are headed for hell.

  • my eyes really filled with tears to see our people , the surrounding,,,the bullock carts,,,soooooooooooooo many. So natural,,,Now Iam in England. I really love it for the serenity,, even the background music makes me think of how simple our ancestors lived...Wish i was born then.

  • thanks for your kind reply. my uncles name was Mr.Anantharama Sarma. Had he been alive he would have`completed 99 this year. He hailed from a place called Nagar Village near Maandurai, Trichy district. The image in the youtube was so much look alike my son sent me this clip to watch.

  • @lakmuthu1 Sir, Have you read my comments? I thought the places look like something from Somarasampettai to Uyyakkondan Thirumalai. If I am wrong, please correct me. Please go through my other comment on the places. I have never been to Nagar, Maanthurai. May be you can give some more inputs. Thank you and Regards,

    S.Suresh,

    Trichy.

  • Thank you Mr Michael Roegge, Sir, for this nostalgic and rare footage.

Now, the places look like Somarasampettai and Uyyakondan Thirumalai .The background at 2.00 - 2.03 and 2.12- 2.21 looks like the Ujjeava nathar Temple, especially with the Brahmin priest walking in the foreground. The bit at 3.33 - 4.02 looks like the Washermen ghat ( Vannan padithurai) near the present day Court complex, where the first Garland for Kuzhumayee is offered. I may be corrected.

  • @SIVARAMSURESH . Thank you very much for your information about the places the film was taken in. I'll add it to the description.

  • @MichaelRogge I am honoured , Respected Sir, on hearing from you. I will be even happier if someone corrects me or if some additional input is posted . Thank you all Trichiites for your comments. Regards,

    S.Suresh,

    Namma Trichy.

  • thanks for posting this clip. any idea who the weightlifter is? he resembles my uncle in his thirties. He used to be a champion.

  • @lakmuthu1 No, I'm sorry I do not know who the weightlifter is. May well have been your uncle.

  • @lakmuthu1 Can you post the name and history of your Uncle ?. If so you can ask the old time bodybuilders and weightlifters for a reference. Also , tell where you are from . He seems to be a contemporary of the late Mr Nataraja Pillai who founded the Ponnu Gym in the late forties. You can contact the descendents of such persons.

  • Someone who disliked this video might be a RETARD. Truly amazing!! so rare video and actually we are lucky to watch this as it is still in good condition. Thanks Mike...

  • The green trichy, though seen in black and white, has become black trichy in colour, due to pollution. Let us all feel ashamed for the urbanization. The visuals though devoid of any commentary or dialogue tells lots of tales - how the people lead a simple life, living on their own produce. Thanks Mr Michael Rogge. By the way, where from you got this footage?

  • @kadambari97 Thanks. I'm buying constantly films for digitalisation for YouTube from all over the world.

  • Sir, did you serve in the Allied Forces? You had traveled and filmed these videos in my country when the war was on.

I was born in 1984, and I have no clue what my country may have looked like before my father was born.. This is from the boyhood days of my grandfather, and you wont know what this means to me. thank you very much.

  • @binoyrakesh . No the combat films are of an army information officer

  • @MichaelRogge Thanks a lot for publishing the video of my city. Love to see Trichy (the present name of then Trichinopoly) green and clean. Though the present generation have lot of facilities this had cost us in the form of pollution. I Wish the future generation of trichy will make it green again. Thanks a million for sharing the video. I loved your video of Madurai as well.

  • Great work in publishing these videos and of other cities in India. Thanks.

  • Great post. Nice ot see my hometown 65 years back. its like rewinding history back. Thanks for lovely posting
