a champion is not a hard hitter lols. disregard this. played a champ for 3 years and single target damage is less than ideal. Guards hit just as hard single target for the most part
@pewpewmonger Exactly, that is very true. The point of this video was to try to pare things down to a basic view of each LOTRO class, and give - in general terms - the closest match to it as a WoW class. Some of those choices are more complex than others, obviously, but all in all it was successful for its time.
@Kralkatorik True enough, but as was pointed out in another recent comment on this video, this video is over a year old. When it was new, LOTRO was getting new players from WoW, and was of use in that way. Now, over a year later, who cares about WoW or LOTRO?
Best comparison to a Lore-master is the Warlock IMO. Pets, fire damage (no shadow damage on a LM, granted) and CC. Hunter plays like a WoW mage even if it doesn't look anything like one.
Good calls on the rest, but it doesn't really reflect recent changes to the LOTRO classes (Champs can now tank without shields, burglars have much higher DPS, minstrels can self-heal in war-speech). Then again, maybe that's too much to expect from a video that's over a year old, heh.
@fedegedehyrde The main reason I decided to go with comparing LMs to WoW Hunters as opposed to Warlocks is this: Animal pets. Hunters and Warlocks both do DPS, both have CC, but their pets are distinctly different. So where LMs use fire damage like a Warlock, I feel their animal pets are a more important feature of the class than what their damage type is. So that makes them more like a Hunter than a Warlock.
@dogeaelf yeah i havnt played in a few months, i havnt seen burg changes yet i know wardens got a slight increase in all abilities for the most part and now they have bubble or something. i would love to bring mine in the moors to try out the differences but wont be happening soon sadly. same with runekeeper, some say they got nerfed but some of my buds say theyre still overpowered just not as much of the 8k dev crits on EC, and they can reach max damage faster as well apparently
I play on the Elendilmir; started with a human minstrel, went to hobbit burglar, and finally settled on a dwarf guardian as my main. I personally recommend the guardian as a good class due to the defensive abilities; and there are a few good AoE attacks and damage dealers that let you hold your own really well. As for the warden, I know a few in the kinship The Dead Asylum who love the class and use it quite well. I say, if you find something you use well, go with it. Experiment and have fun!
Having played both games, I think your comparisons are pretty spot on, actually. Great video for new players, next time I have a buddy who is planning on switching from WoW to LOTRO, I'll point them in this direction.
This game is annoying when I go to character creation It said something under Race thingy "You have an new quest" and I couldn't choose my race and continue to the game.. >.> If you can help me please Reply.
@Airacko They don't heal well enough to be considered a real healer.... sure you can use for out in the wild npc healing, but against real opponents or the moors...they simply will not hang....kinda like a warden, against opponents that actually do DAMAGE they cannot hang.
Warden's gambit system restricts the aggro directed toward the warden....also the only isnta-aggro move they get is Defiant challenge which is a legendary trait given by a deed-like mission....Wardens are a aggro/healing/mediocre dps CLASS.
@starwars910 Wardens are a mediocre class period... I love wasting them on my creep out in the moors... they get too used to the lousy npc damage and the dps in the moors is way to high for their lame regen rates.
@doogleaelf And it usually depends on the player like you posted for Fitzo below....there are a rare few of champions out there that have gone from level 1-75 with only 2 or 3 deaths (and played normally) many champions out there are noobs who want any easy overrated class....but there are those that make the class shine.
Not all hunters are noobs. Even though they are the easist class to play being in a group can be hard to play it right. Its easy to mess up in a group and i dont see alot of good grouping hunters
You forgot to mention about totally unique gameplays system with Warden. Unlike any other classes in any other games, this one is based on combo attacks with various combination of spear/shield/taunt attacks, of which you build other, stronger attacks. There is over 40 of combinations to remember - no other class has that many attacks. Warden is the only thing that keeps me in LOTRO, after recent Turbine screw-ups. With warden, you'll never be the best, as you can always be better...
Loved your explanations, even though I don't play WoW :P I stayed and watched just for the warden-- which is indeed a "self contained bottle of awesome".
Meh, captains have buffs and a aura similiar to paladins, and they have a bubble like thing makes you unable to die for 25 seconds, they can also bubble their party members. It's actually like paladin pretty much.
Nice done. Only u should say at the warde, it can tank, but never as good as a guardian, it can dps but not as good as Hunter/champ. I see it more as the middle road, that's why its just so good soloing with it. And LM has also great dps(as every tactical damager) becouse most mobs and players have good ranges defense, but no magic kind.
But although, nice video, also for the non wow players to teach some of the classes.
@Raktarn The Guardians threat generation is a lot better, however the wardens threat generation over time is superior when it comes down to holding aggro a single target like bosses. Guardians tank better.
@SterileNails666 I prefer tanking on my guardian too because there isnt too many places that you need to tank a ton of guys. BUT when there are those times I cannot keep them all on my guardian because his AoEs only hit 3 targets where the guardians hit.... All? I dont think his has a target limit.
@Raktarn shure it's not the other way? i have both classes and so far, guardian was easyer to tank with(when he was good geared). but my warden's just lvl 34 and so far i spotted just 2 or 3 group treath gambit's. but it's my solo char so don't have that mutch xp as group tank.
@svundead Im not saying one is better then the other just Warden has more AoE skills then Guardian (Warden gets one at I think level 8 where guardian dosent till...... 20?) I havent played one either enough to know what one is better overall though
@LockMacFly In your first 10-15 levels, sure. After that, not so much. Best to either buy a small package of TP for real money in the LOTRO Store, thus turning your account into a Premium, and raising your gold cap to 5 gold per character. Or subscribe for a month, get VIP status during that time, and all of your characters on your account have the gold cap restriction removed entirely.
The warden is a junk class.. only for wimps who can't handle real fighting.... take a warden to the moors and watch em drop like flies... POS class.. don't waste yer time.
@LockMacFly It's not enough. not enough at all! First of all deluxe houses cost like 7g and they're important for chest slots. Upgrading your vault slots can go up to 10g. Buying symbols for second ages can be 100g+, lvl 75 one is like 400g and without one of those youll fail.
@BellusScormus I would say LOTRO > WoW in MOST every way. I still pay for a WoW subscription every once and a while whenever i'm feeling tired of lotro.
@ThatsNotOriginaI i'v played both and got to the same level i got level 20 on wow with a Tauran Paladin and a Hunter with LOTRO and i much preferred Lotro the people are nicer to play with and more freindly and i think thats because u have to work togethor in a fellowship alot. wow looks very childish as wel where as lotro has sophisticated graphics
Thank you, this helped me pin down what class i really wanted to use. Even though you were using wow terminology for people who play it to explain classes, i don'w play wow. But anyways thanks :P
@BellusScormus IMHO, playing a hunter since 08... It can be made complicated (if you want to solo stuff you really shouldn't)... But it's rather simple otherwise... Then again, any class can be as simple or complicated as you make it (for me, burglar's are really simple - but that may be just cause I love it)
with wardens they start to get good at tanking at the later levels (about lvl 40) at the beginning stages of lvls 1-39 they are good tanks but not as good as they should be but at the same time wardens are sort of like captains they can do a little bit of everything like bellus said. heal, buff, and dps but if you want to do what most can't trait for tanking (blue colour traits) or survivability as some wardens may say, the the yellow traits are useless and red is obviously your DPS trait line
@kloakenskansen not exactly true, if a burg traits for SK then yes they can do geat dps but a champ whos traited as beserker will out do any dps to single target, except the hunter and runekeeper possibly, as a burg whos traited SK will out do a a champ in dps to a single target if the champ is traited DS but champ in DS will destroy multiple enemies in seconds so it depends on how you trait your toon
@fitzo256 I agree...burgs can straight up rock. 1v1 there is no equal... they will simply waste any other class out there. And with the latest patches their dps has gone way up. The burg is the class I fear the most out in the moors. And these champ lovers are morons... jeeze, pot for the stun, pop evade... you now have one dead champ. Burg would eat a champ so easy it ain't funny.
imo warden is better than guard but the rep of warden is ruined by the ones that dont know how to use gambits but i dont say guard is weak :) every is good in diffrent instances
can, someone help me, i'm a lvl 15 guardian, and for some reason i can't put on this set of bronze armour i got, it's heavy, and it says minimum level 15, why can't i wear it? I am a Guardian. do i have to be v.i.p.?
@marcuswoo123 The RK heals, other than their Stone, is much more like a Druid's heals, though. So they are actually more of a cross between Shaman and Druid.
Awesome review, spent a lot of time trying to find a more detailed class review video and yours has to be the best out there. Thanks for taking the time to make it and share your opinions. Cheers!
@revan2100 It would break the Lore. There are 5 Wizards in Middle-Earth (IIRC), being Gandalf, Radagast, the two Blue Wizards (which are mentioned but don't appear in the books), and Sauraman. That's it.
@revan2100 the RK is the second best DPS in the game. and a strong RK has a good ability to heal themselves quickly also, RKs are very good battlesmates, and also magic classes...
Mate probaly should of stated the fact that champions lose B/P/E in fervour. And Guardians can DPS in overpower. And I would say warden would be most similar to a paladin. Although you can only self-heal you can still heal REALLY well. And theres the tank...
You have done a great job with explaining the classes! I am going to recommend your videos to my kin! I fully agree with the Minstrel class and the Runekeeper in WoW terms! Great job!!
@ BellusScormus Thank you so much, wanted to research and decide which class I wanted to play before starting LOTRO and your video helped majorly, exactly what I'd been looking for. Rolled a lvl 70 Lock in WoW and decided to change things up and will go with a Champ this time around. Again appreciate the video and hope to see more in the future. (Subscribed BTW)
Captain is the Paladin of LOTRO, Paladins were officialy created to just Buff up, like the captain in LOTRO. While they later on developed good skills for healing, the pet is being added in WOW with cataclysm so its a perfect compare.
@JHRMS Paladins are getting a pet? Okay, yeah, that makes them the Captains of WoW then. Since LOTRO did that first, you have to say Blizzard is copying Turbine on that at least.
@TheAdamedge The point is that WoW is copying LOTRO in that they gave Paladins pets, like Captains have. If Paladins didn't have pets then the two classes aren't all that alike, other than wearing heavy armor and doing some buffing/healing. Captain is a pet class at it's heart.
@TheAdamedge But if that's the case, then Hunters in LOTRO are just like those in WoW, just because they both can use bows. The point I was making about Paladins vs Captains is this: They serve two different primary functions. By WoW adding pets to Paladins, they made them a lot more like what Captains already were (a buffing pet class, meant for support), thus copied LOTRO.
Well i actually just started playing LOTRO last night. Iv been a WoW player for 3 years. Main was a rogue, so i rolled a champ. So far im liking it. Iv tried a few other MMO's i liked at first but fell short of WoW for me. Im hoping this will be an exception tho!
@thepun3190 I hope you do find LOTRO to be a good game overall. Just keep in mind that the level 35ish to 45ish range can be a bit of a bottleneck in leveling. If you start to find your leveling slowing down a lot, do more Skirmishes to compensate. It makes things a lot easier overall.
@mionDM Ah, I see. Well, I can't take responsibility for that, actually. That's just the normal character movements on the character creation screen. I wasn't controlling those characters in those scenes.
Would be pretty cool if I had that sort of access, though.
@BellusScormus ????I'm confused. you know in your other videos when you get your character talking outsid your house. how do you get them to perform emotes with the ui disabled?
@TheTavernDrunk Okay, so I had a look at their "review"... Looks like they came from a very unbiased point-of-view, and were completely fair and balanced. Yep. They sure gave LOTRO a real fair shot, didn't they?
I started this game yesterday. I made a Burglar on Landroval I think that's how you spell it. I gotta say the landscape is beautiful in this game. And I really think I'm going to enjoy this. Your Full of Fail videos are really helpful too, to thank you.

Why do WoW players come to this game? We don't want them.
Hampe966 8 months ago 2
@Hampe966 the bigger the playerbase, the longer the game lives. So yes, yes we do.
mikejclark 8 months ago
@mikejclark Actually no I don't want immature fuckheads playing a game I actually like to ruin it.
Hampe966 8 months ago

runekeeper= shaman, pretty much the same
marcuswoo123 9 months ago
@marcuswoo123 The RK heals, other than their Stone, is much more like a Druid's heals, though. So they are actually more of a cross between Shaman and Druid.

Awesome review, spent a lot of time trying to find a more detailed class review video and yours has to be the best out there. Thanks for taking the time to make it and share your opinions. Cheers!
visualescapism 9 months ago
dont understand why they cant make a magic class that can fight as well like a battlemage ugh
revan2100 9 months ago
@revan2100 It would break the Lore. There are 5 Wizards in Middle-Earth (IIRC), being Gandalf, Radagast, the two Blue Wizards (which are mentioned but don't appear in the books), and Sauraman. That's it.
BellusScormus 9 months ago
@revan2100 the RK is the second best DPS in the game. and a strong RK has a good ability to heal themselves quickly also, RKs are very good battlesmates, and also magic classes...

How dare you try to be helpful!! :D
Thanks, this should be sticked on their official forums, read a bunch of lorebook stuff, but as a former WoW player, this was more helpful for me.
I took notes. Seriously. I took freakin' notes, man!
Oh, subscribing too, watching your don't fear the free to play atm...
thanks, keep it up.

i want magic but also solo play, who is the best?
tenthousandyearsgoon 11 months ago
@tenthousandyearsgoon All solo well, but I find the Rune-Keeper and Minstrel and best casters for soloing. But that's just a personal opinion.

@BellusScormus i started lore elf yesterday and its great. thanks bro

my opinion on the law master would be that it is similar to a warlock just not entirely build on dps.
Nixmii 1 year ago
Mate probaly should of stated the fact that champions lose B/P/E in fervour. And Guardians can DPS in overpower. And I would say warden would be most similar to a paladin. Although you can only self-heal you can still heal REALLY well. And theres the tank...
W1zerdG1ml1 1 year ago
i would said a warden is a pally cause they can heal in combat

You have done a great job with explaining the classes! I am going to recommend your videos to my kin! I fully agree with the Minstrel class and the Runekeeper in WoW terms! Great job!!

@ BellusScormus Thank you so much, wanted to research and decide which class I wanted to play before starting LOTRO and your video helped majorly, exactly what I'd been looking for. Rolled a lvl 70 Lock in WoW and decided to change things up and will go with a Champ this time around. Again appreciate the video and hope to see more in the future. (Subscribed BTW)

@skywarnjlw3 You are very welcome, glad I could help.

Captain is the Paladin of LOTRO, Paladins were officialy created to just Buff up, like the captain in LOTRO. While they later on developed good skills for healing, the pet is being added in WOW with cataclysm so its a perfect compare.
JHRMS 1 year ago
@JHRMS Paladins are getting a pet? Okay, yeah, that makes them the Captains of WoW then. Since LOTRO did that first, you have to say Blizzard is copying Turbine on that at least.
BellusScormus 1 year ago
@JHRMS omg wow came out before lotro so captain copy paladin ahaha
TheAdamedge 1 year ago
@TheAdamedge The point is that WoW is copying LOTRO in that they gave Paladins pets, like Captains have. If Paladins didn't have pets then the two classes aren't all that alike, other than wearing heavy armor and doing some buffing/healing. Captain is a pet class at it's heart.
BellusScormus 1 year ago
@BellusScormus i can say that captain copied pally with heavy armor and healing spells
TheAdamedge 1 year ago
@TheAdamedge But if that's the case, then Hunters in LOTRO are just like those in WoW, just because they both can use bows. The point I was making about Paladins vs Captains is this: They serve two different primary functions. By WoW adding pets to Paladins, they made them a lot more like what Captains already were (a buffing pet class, meant for support), thus copied LOTRO.
BellusScormus 1 year ago
@JHRMS temporary...
TheAdamedge 1 year ago
@MrMatt027 Kind of like a Warlock, yes, but the Lore-master is less focused on DPS and a whole lot more focused on crowd-control.
BellusScormus 1 year ago
Well i actually just started playing LOTRO last night. Iv been a WoW player for 3 years. Main was a rogue, so i rolled a champ. So far im liking it. Iv tried a few other MMO's i liked at first but fell short of WoW for me. Im hoping this will be an exception tho!
thepun3190 1 year ago
@thepun3190 I hope you do find LOTRO to be a good game overall. Just keep in mind that the level 35ish to 45ish range can be a bit of a bottleneck in leveling. If you start to find your leveling slowing down a lot, do more Skirmishes to compensate. It makes things a lot easier overall.
BellusScormus 1 year ago
@BellusScormus can you get enough points to unlock mines of morrior? sorry if i misspelled it
Boozebegood 1 year ago
lore master is more like a warlock then.
thepun3190 1 year ago
@thepun3190 Kind of, but more focused on Crowd Control than a Lock is.

How do you get that view???(on fraps)???
mionDM 1 year ago
@mionDM I just turned it on while on the Character Creation screen.
BellusScormus 1 year ago
@BellusScormus no I mean when you get your character talking because I cant type when I disable the ui
mionDM 1 year ago
@mionDM Ah, I see. Well, I can't take responsibility for that, actually. That's just the normal character movements on the character creation screen. I wasn't controlling those characters in those scenes.
Would be pretty cool if I had that sort of access, though.
BellusScormus 1 year ago
@BellusScormus ????I'm confused. you know in your other videos when you get your character talking outsid your house. how do you get them to perform emotes with the ui disabled?
mionDM 1 year ago
@mionDM I bind the emotes to a quickslot via the /shortcut command. For example, "/shortcut 5 /dance" puts the dance emote on your 5th quickslot
BellusScormus 1 year ago
@BellusScormus oh great thanks I'm going to go do that right now
mionDM 1 year ago
@mionDM Sorry about the earlier confusion, it's been a long night at work.

@BellusScormus thats alright.

@Spiderpresent I record the videos with Fraps, and edit/encode with Nero Vision 5.
BellusScormus 1 year ago
just wondering have you seen the yog'scast review of lotro?
TheTavernDrunk 1 year ago
@TheTavernDrunk No, not yet. I'll have to go look for that.
BellusScormus 1 year ago
@TheTavernDrunk Okay, so I had a look at their "review"... Looks like they came from a very unbiased point-of-view, and were completely fair and balanced. Yep. They sure gave LOTRO a real fair shot, didn't they?
*sigh*
Oh, well. At least it was kinda funny.

I started this game yesterday. I made a Burglar on Landroval I think that's how you spell it. I gotta say the landscape is beautiful in this game. And I really think I'm going to enjoy this. Your Full of Fail videos are really helpful too, to thank you.
