  • Ever notice the car initials are the same as the person the plant is named after? RWSX, Robert W. Scherer plant. Same story with JHMX: James H. Miller steam plant near Birmingham. I don't know if any other Southern Company coal sets are the same way, though.

  • @fyadcorp Interesting observation. Thanks!

  • The NS 2403 seen in tow @ 54 seconds was part of the Inman Yard hump set one night in 1988 when a daring switchman broke the rules and gave his 2nd & 3rd born daughters a ride on it, shoving to the hump out of RT-07 on a "green", then "double yellow", then drawing down to a "pig yellow" at the icebox. We all bailed at the air-bleeder shack ! .......Nutty Times !

  • Great story! Things have sure changed since then. Thanks for sharing!

  • This is outstanding. Until early 2005 the only railroad I ever railfanned was CSX because it was close to home. I more or less missed the glory days of Norfolk Southern. The only NS videos I have in which a wide cab is not leading are the local trains

  • Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video! I really miss seeing the variety that was found on NS rails back then. It sure doesn't seem like I shot this stuff 10 years ago. I wonder how much things will change in another 10 years?

  • Holy crap, you got some good stuff, Are the power and trains about the same or has it mostly gone to GE ES40DC, C40-9W, and stuff of the such?

  • Thanks, for the most part all of the "old school" lashups are gone. Pretty much EVERYTHING now is some variant of GE widebody on every train on some days. Railfanning these days are few and far between for me. All of the modern power (especially the GEs) don't do anything for me. It's very boring trackside now.

  • Humm...I had not seen this one. Awesome stuff! Wow! That was cool to see 736 in the video, back when UP was running the Scherer trains! Also cool, next train there's a D9-40CW in primer! Thumbs up!

  • Thanks Gene. I actually miss the UP power on the Scherer trains. In the early days of the UP Scherer trains, CNW and SP power showed pretty regularly through here.

  • @southern7002x What year did BNSF take over the Scherer trains?

  • 2004 I believe.
