  • @loupi52 I met Gene Thomas when I was almost 13 yrs old and it I will never forget it. I am so happy that you posted this video. So many people have strong memories attached to this song. I've been so fortune to reconnect with Gene and videotape him currently. I just post a new video , but it isn't one of his originals;however, here is one that you may remember, and if not it is a jewel worth owning. I love Gene's singing today, more than ever. I hope everyone will Subscribe.

  • I found this on the flip of some reissue oldie I bought back in the '80's. Fantastic song! It hooked me instantly.

Thank you for your comment, glad you like it.

  • @dpohunter could you please tell me the name of the reissue oldie and the artist that is on the flipside of "Gene Thomas" - Sometimes that you bought in the 80's.

  • @Shaziaka Hi, right now I'm away from my record collection, but I will reply back in a few weeks when I can look at the label. I believe the reissue label was Epic (black with red outer ring). Happy Holidays.

  • @Shaziaka Hi Shaziaka. Finally dug out my reissue of this. It's on the Capitol Silver Spotlight Series label. A nice touch- it lists the original release date (11/61) and the chart position (#53). The flip is "You're So Fine" by the Falcons. Happy New Year.

  • @dpohunter I've been trying to find out the name of this song for many years and who sings it.

  • Reminds of growing up, watching my parents and my family partying in the projects.

Those were the good old days.

  • I just heard this for the first time on "sock hop oldies" streaming .... what a great tune. I'd love Dwight Yoakam to cover it, it sounds like something he'd do.

  • Thanks for adding this song. I now have it on my favorites I recall hearing it as a teen on a rick ward album he was a oldies DJ in Los Angeles Xpress Oldies!

  • WHEN I THINK OF WHAT SONGS I ENJOYED MOST WHEN I WAS IN MY TEENAGE YEARS, THIS ONE IS VERY NEAR THE TOP OF THE LIST. I FIND MYSELF SINGING IT WHEN THERE IS NOTHING PLAYING AND I WANT THAT GOOD FEELING THAT MUSIC AND SONGS BRING.

  • Nice record. My friend Radio Re played this song/record on her "Platter Party" oldies show last night on public FM KKUP-91.5 in thew San Jose area. Great oldeis show if you're ever in that area or live there, it's on Thursday nights from 10 pm to midnight.

She plays a lot of rare oldies like this one!

  • One bad azz tune ♪♫♪ !!!! .......10/☆

  • From Corpus Christi, this is one of the songs our band used to play in our regular play list, when it was #1. I have always really liked this song, and still do. I recently purchased Gene's new CD, with 22 songs. There is not a bad song on the entire album, Gene is the real deal. Highly recommend his new album

  • Been looking for this song all over the web. Somehow it slipped thru the cracks because I've looked for it here. So glad I found it! Reached #3 on KFWB's Fab 40 in October, 1961. What a great song!

  • Wow! I'm 14 years old again! Thanks, who can forget this beatiful song.

  • Wow! I have longed to hear this song for so long! Thanks so much for sharing it!

  • the KRLA and KFWB stations were the best.....especially late nite DJ's shows......just love the backup music....think they played this at the first "dances" i went to

  • Wow that is the word. What a song,"Sometime"the last time I heard this song was in 1977 on the radio staion KRLA 1110 AM.Back then KRLA was the best oldie station in Soutern California.Johnny Hayes was the DJ during that time.Thank you 4 this awesome song.

  • Grew up in L.A. (Boyle Heights) and you're not kidding about KRLA being te best back then. I hadn't thought of Johnny Hayes in years or Emperor Hudson,or Art Laboe. Great jam I use to play when me and friends would get together. I miss those days. L.A radio sucks these days.

  • I got one response THANK-YOU for posting this oldie but goodie !

  • This man has a voice!!!! Just wonderful!!!Probably the best voice I remember from yesteryear!!

  • Listening to all of Gene's songs I think he was a reall crooner. A unique voice that is unforgettable... And lyrics that were very thought-provoking. Thanks for posting this gem.

  • praise be to ye for your sharing this tune

  • A true classic by Gene. Nice versions of the song were later recorded by Joe Stampley's band, the Uniques, as well as country singer Johnny Lee.

  • gENE THOMAS WILL BE APPEARING LIVE AT THE LONE STAR CLUB IN PASADENA, TX JULY 26 ALONG WITH ROY HEAD AND OTHERS.....FREE

  • Doug Sahm did a killer version with his Last Real Texas Blues Band right before he crossed over.

  • Also find it fascinating that one of The Raiders' hits was "Peace of Mind" - a totally different song, but with a very similar title to Gene's "Piece of Mind." Thomas was obviously a major Raiders' influence.

  • Paul Revere & The Raiders' version is one of my all-time favourites. Never knew there was "an original version." Fascinating! Thanks for posting.

  • This is a goody...thanks!!

  • NOT ALL THE TIME AYE !!!

  • Timeless stuff!

I needed it tonight to make a point to someone about the great Sir Doug Sahm.

Thanks for posting this essential Gene Thomas number!
