Always hell of a struggle when a band lose their "voice."
But Lowell never Carried the band.
It constantly writhed and chirped into something else.
Feat was an organic momentum.
The time had come for Payne's virtuoso structuring to become a Voice in it's own right. They had grown into something that transcended the early days. Lowell's strength was that he was so laid back. Maybe this just sounded Too Busy for his senses.
I have to disagree with 1rewd1; while Lowell's passing did mark the end of what he had begun, they all evolved as a group and retained enough of the funk that made them great. Their SOUL didn't die, but they did change.
I am also aware of LG's feelings for this song. That's too bad, but I still LOVE the song on Waitin' for Columbus...that is a showcase for all the other great talent that resides in the band still.
Addendum: Richie Hayward was always an inspiration to me no matter with whom he played, Little Feat or anyone else. Amazing drummer, highly, highly underrated. RIP
I can never listen to this song without knowing that Lowell George hated it so much and the direction it was foretelling that Little Feat was going, he would walk off stage whenever they played it.
To me Little Feat died with Lowell. Not that I can't appreciate where they went afterward and still consider myself a fan, but it lost it's soul when he passed.

Walking to see The Who at Charlton in 197whatever it was and to hear 'Rock and Roll Doctor' literally on the airwaves was a fabulous thing...
