This brings back memories of the mid 90's. I use to work in a night club called Batchwood Hall in England. Before setting off to work on a Friday evening, I would watch Due South. I never missed an episode. I love the theme tune and story lines, also very good acting!
I hope they make a film of this show. With Fraser and Meg Thatcher getting each other at the end. Incidentally, since the RCMP deal with internal secuiity work in Canada, they'd have plenty of reasons to meet even after she joins the Secret Service.
It is stupid to say there is nothin but cookery programmes, there are more great programmes now more than ever. Boardwalk Empire, Psych, 24, Supernatural to name but a few.
how can you not like due south. it was well shot ,colourfull, funny and had some riveting episodes. thanks for some good tv....... rip mr neilson you were a star .
This takes me back to my childhood...and it's playing on BBC 2
I have one question though, why is the other guy who came after Ray called Stanley Kowalski, I'm also aware he's meant to be Polish, is his character connected in some way to Stanley from A Streetcar Named Desire? If not then thats one hell of a coinsidence.
@stupidintellect90 Stanley Kowalski mentions in one of the episodes that his father is a fan of Marlon Brando who plays that character in the film A Streetcar Named Desire.
@NosheenM Ahh that explains it then, I was just a little bewildered as I've just started studying Streetcar and also started watching Due South. As a matter of fact after watching the film, I decided my future son is to be named Marlon :)
To everyone in the UK - Yay! They are showing DueSouth on BBC2 every afternoon @ 1pm. BBC equals no add breaks...bliss. Should really be shown in the evenings so more people can watch but it's better than nothing. But that is what Sky+ and BBC iPlayer are for :-D
One of my favorite shows, though I much preferred the theme tune in the first two seasons before they messed with it.. I thought the added instruments kinda messed with the mood of the song, but that's just my opinion. Great show, ended much earlier than it should have.
Brilliant tv show! not like the kack they put on the tv now! I remember watching this through my teenage years-made me wanna be a Mountie! just wish I lived in Canada!
i was in love with fraser as a kid..and i love the theme song...this is the same paul haggis that wrote Crash...all the real talent is always Canadian..Im proud!
I used to love this as a kid, and I still do. Other shows I like are Quantum leap, sliders and that late 90's early 00's show about those people who were born like kids and had healing powers and had to kill brain eating slugs. Can anyone tell me what that program is called?
He is so perfectly amazingly gorgeous. And such a sweet, caring, gentleman.. =) I think I'm in love with Constable Benton Fraser. =)
Haha.
I still can't believe they cancelled this show. It was great, possibly the best show to ever exist. No.. DEFINITELY the greatest show to ever exist! <3 I miiss it! And yes, I'm still hoping they'll randomly make a movie.... or better yet, begin making the series again. lol
I do. Diefenbaker was the name of the wolf. He was played by three seperate Siberian Huskies. Newman in the Pilot episode, Lincoln in seasons 1-2, and Draco in season 3-4, I like Draco the most. I think he looks the best in the role. Newman's location is unknown from what I know but Lincoln is retired living with the series creator Paul Edward Haggis and Draco has appeared in the series Twitch City starring Due South actor Callum Keith Rennie. Nice for another American to be interested like me.
i would watch this show when i was a young kid, i used to love it. tv on nowa days is crap. shows like this and other great shows in the 90's where 10x better than the trash on nowa days.
I grew to love this show a few years ago when I was stuck spending the winter in Irkutsk (Siberia). For some reason, they air this show on TV all the time over there. Maybe it reminds them of home?
Ha i watched this as a child as well i only just thought to watch it again it was always the opening music that appealed to me it makes me feel happy again. I wish to be a kid again.
They changed Diefenbaker's look from the pilot onwards, he looked less white and really looked like a wolf lol. And only true Americans who watch this show would know what his name referred to.
Quoted from Wikipedia: John George Diefenbaker (18 September 1895 16 August 1979) was the thirteenth Prime Minister of Canada, serving from 21 June 1957 to 22 April 1963.
The chose that name also because dog's names are usually responded to by the dog best if they are two syllables but being that Diefenbaker is deaf it didn't matter how many syllables were in the name.
Words cannot express how much I loved this show. When I first saw reruns on TNT years and years ago, I fell in love with the show and could not get enough. Even hearing this theme, tonight as I did for the first time in years, it really moved me. :)
I grew up with the show. Funny how David Marciano as 'Ray Vecchio' was such a cool cop and now as 'Steve Billings' in The Shield his character is the most assholish character ever, although he did suprise me in this season (solving crimes better than Dutch when he wants) shows how great an actor he is.
This has got to be my favourite show of all time- even the opening titles are inspiring! It has everything: drama, humour, fast car chases- even a wolf! Absolutely top class!
How come Paul Haggis's other series "Walker Texas Ranger", which I also like did more seasons than Due South, it just boggles the mind just because it captured Americas attention better doesn't mean he had to stop Due South?
