  • Look at those scores! This is one of the most amazing battles of this whole series.

Corby was amazing technically, adding his touches to time-honoured ways of preparing foie gras, and Chen, well, he reminded me of the younger Liang brother who made a winning quartet in overtime with an ingredient he had never used before. The real reason the Iron Chefs stand up there is because their cuisine is so versatile, and Chen just proved exactly how versatile his is.

I wish I could try any one of these!

  • I like how Chen's face is like "Shoot, why couldn't 1 of us just win.. I want to go home and sleep"

  • Why oh why that most of the 4 judges there are not food critics, most of their profession doesn't have anything to do with food? Actors/actresses, photographers, sport stars, and etc, seriously?

  • Is there any person who DOESNT love Chen Kenichi???

  • Chen san is living proof that Chinese cuisine can be creative, progressive and taste good and still taste like Chinese food. Most Chinese chefs outside Japan are just stubbornly holding on to whatever they're taught, with hardly any creativity and artistry, labeling it as "tradition". As far as I'm concerned, they're technicians/production line cooks, not artists, which is what a chef should strive to be. I'm definitely making a visit to shisen hanten the next time I visit Tokyo.

  • CHEN KEN ICHI!!!!!!!!!! my fave iron chef!!!

  • The roasted duck stuffed with foie gras came out beautifully!!! Dominique really nailed it! Well execution on the dish, the 300th challenger 8D

  • When the overtime was announced, the challenger looked bewildered and worried. What a scrap this episode is. Hearing the reactions and comments of the panel was also part of the fun. Fantastic show.

  • Yuko Asano said, "..after the first spoonful, the foie gras spreads in my mouth (hand gestures) , and then the sauce ..." Turns me the way she says it. That is one gorgeous, sensuous woman.

  • Lol a Fortune Teller

  • hahaha. a big foot on his table at 2:30

  • Chen is the fckin man!

  • i love how they dub the "MMMMMMM!"s and "WOOOO"s

  • the roast duck is like raw lol

  • wow I need to be on this panel of judges.

  • i love foie gras sushi

  • Wow,

Chef Chen really gave Chef Corby a run for his money considering he has never cooked with foie gras before, I'll to say that Chef Chen is the better Chef.

  • @HotKebab I think that's a bit on the fence. Corby might be capable of something similar with a traditionally chinese ingredient too.

  • Fukutome had an orgasm when he tasted the foie from the stuffed roast duck; maybe he was imagining stuffing Ms. Asano with something else...LOL

  • Fukutome had an orgasm when he tasted the foie from the stuffed roast duck; maybe he was imagining stuffing Ms. Asano with something else...LOL

  • I would like to give Ms. Asano something that will spread in her mouth. If she'd be so willing.

  • Admiration after admiration..... I need to eat now.

  • This is for journeyman47 to ingest:

"Once you and I have started arguing, if you win and I lose, then are you really right and am I really wrong? If I win and you lose, then am I really right and are you really wrong? Is one of us right and the other one wrong? Or are both of us right and both of us wrong? If you and I can't understand one another, then other people will certainly be even more in the dark."

    -Zhuangzi

  • Wow, the food really must be amazing, that's the first time I haven't heard Hosoki nit-pick and complain!

  • JOURNEYMAN47..IT IS BECAUSE OF PETA THAT I AM GOING TO TRY FOIE GRAS(sorry caps lock). I am ordering a thing of foie gras just to have it. Food is Food. I would fatten a cow to the point of it killing over if the meat was better.

  • Think of the Aflack duck! You could be eating the liver of his sister!

  • 6:30 so funny

  • . . . Wow! Roast Duck Stuffed With Foie Gras: So damn tender you have to eat it with a spoon. Awesome!

This is probably my favourite Iron Chef Battle! Both chefs coming up with dishes for the ages. And you have to give extra props to Chef Kenichi: Who knew he was a dead man not only for going up against Chef Corby - but having to prepare an ingredient that Corby was an expert with and that Chen rarely (if ever) used! What a job by both men: Chen's roast foie gras with peaches looks so good!!

  • So, you don't know about the suffering that goes on with every bird's liver you eat? Please see my comments below, and google "foie gras cruelty" to read a world of information that just may cause you to lose your appetite for the revolting stuff.

  • OK, Journeyman47: While I respect & understand both sides of the argument for/against foie gras, I am not going to get into a debate with you: Obviously you have an agenda, which is fine. For the record: I have eaten foie gras 3-4 times in my life: It was pretty good but I could take or leave it. On the other hand: I've eaten cow's liver & chicken liver numerous times, yet I fail to hear you condemn that. Isn't it so easy to just pick & choose which food is wrong just because you don't like it?

  • This video is about foie gras, not about cow and chicken livers. I don't need or want to rant about everything I'm against on every video, and I'm sure you wouldn't want to hear it.

For the record, I am against eating all animal products, but let's just stick with the video subject.

  • don't be a pussy, if you don't like it don't eat it. Plus there are humane and natural foie gras farms, and in fact the discovery of foie gras stems from a process that the birds go through naturally to put on weight for migrations or changes in weather.

  • Pinkle: what an ass. A "pussy", as you so eloquently put it, is someone who runs and hides from controversy, is he not? Do I seem like I'm hiding from the ugly brutal truth behind foie gras? I think not.

I think YOU are self-delusional and making up excuses to justify your greed and thoughtless feeding of your face with diseased processed duck and geese organs.

There is NO SUCH THING as "humane" or "natural" foie gras farms. Stop spouting nonsense and for pity's sake leave the birds alone.

  • actually foie gras was discovered by jews in ancient egypt when they noticed that migrating birds naturally became swollen when the gorged themselves before a migration. There are farms in spain which exploit this natural process without force feeding or cages and in fact wild geese and ducks flying over the farm have been known to stop and stay rather than continuing their natural migration patterns because of the conditions on the farm. I guess you didn't know that though

  • Pinke: "Exploit" being the key word.

Anyway so what if a few Spanish farms don't force-feed the ducks? That would be a tiny fraction of one percent of foie gras production. The crud you eat is surely not from there. And they still kill the birds, in God knows what barbaric ways. Is this what you call some kind of excuse to justify your eathing it? Sounds pretty lame to me.

Besides, Spain's record of their treatment of animals (read: bullfights) isn't exactly anything to boast about.

  • actually the key point I was trying to make is that you were in fact wrong. and they do kill the birds and Im for that too, and Ill eat the force fed foie gras anyway, and Ill continue eating beef and chicken and duck and uni and horse and ostrich and alligator and whatever else tastes delicious. Bull fights are held in honor of the bull and just because your culture is different and you disagree morally doesn't mean anyone cares what you think.

  • I don't see anything you said that proved me wrong about anything.

And I guess I can't stop you from stuffing your face with dead animal corpses, since you obviously don't care about your fellow species you share the planet with.

But you'll probably get cancer, heart disease, diabetes or any number of other diseases soon, so I guess it all works out in the end.

PS there is nothing "honorable" about stabbing an innocent bull trapped in a ring of cheering morons until he dies bleeding..

  • And I suppose you're going to make the world a better place by unloading the sand in your vagina out on youtube so maybe ten people who read your comment might think for a second that you're worth a damn.

  • Keep it up. Please. Let the world see what kind of people eat something as sickening and cruel as foie gras.

  • I dont understand what is wrong with you people. I have so much more of a problem with the millions of people out there eating blue fin tuna or poaching sturgeon or even wild salmon. these things that are actually dying out, where as geese and ducks? they are food. You dumb bastards forget that. I'm not a bad person cuz I eat farmed meat. You are a terrible person because rather than fixing the problems you see you sit back and judge others for having a different perspective than you. cunt.

  • Hmm, are this people acting? for a few more buck they'll have an orgasm

  • I'll give you $50 to punch yourself in the balls as hard as you can.

  • FW: Have you always been a dickhead? What's the matter with you anyway?

  • Heh, heh, exactly. Good comment!

  • Chen is god.

  • Chen is one tough out. He takes an ingredient very seldom used in his style of cooking and EARNS a tie with someone whos cooking style is practically made for this ingredient.

  • There are times when they don't show every dish, but it's because of time constraints. Back when there was a longer cooking period (plus only three judges), you'd see more of each dish...the one downside being a LOT more commentary from the judges.

  • wheres chens foie gras appetizer?

  • Food is food. All those plants you eat are tortured and killed. Just because they don't have fur and cute eyes doesn't mean that you're anymore innocent than anyone else.

    And yes, you are pathetic.

  • If you don't like it then don't eat. Let's see how long you'll survive.

  • rooch: if by "don't eat", you mean don't eat liver pate, of course I don't. If you mean all animal products, I don't eat that either, and have never felt better since I stopped, almost 2 years ago.

    Try it some time.

  • Try telling that to the Cheetahs sometime to stop chasing after Gazelles and Impalas... They do that for a reason.

  • Which has absolutely nothing to do with fat, greedy humans torturing helpless birds to eat their diseased, bloated livers. Or the fact that I eat no meat.

    Absolutely nothing.

    Any other lame arguments?

  • Be glad you are living in a country that gives you a choice of food. Telling the inhabitants of the 3rd world slums not to eat meat.

  • Again, you seem to like to change the subject away from foie gras.

But I'll go along. Any 3rd world people anywhere are able to buy grains and vegetables cheaper than meat. Meat is more expensive to produce, so it costs more (unless it's subsidized by the gov't, like here in the US)

So it these people are so poor, they should stick to plant-based foods.

PS We westerners make it more expensive for them by feeding half our corn to our farm animals. If we didn't, they could all eat well.

  • That's not the point. The point is that they'll eat anything that's in front of them meat-based or not unlike some picky eater ranting on about why people shouldn't be eating meat. Animals are here for a reason you know and in case if you didn't study your history carefully, eating meat's been a part of our lives ever since the birth of civilization.

  • You might wanna refresh your history buddy, 'cuz you can say that to historian out there and they'll disagree with you 100%.

  • Right, and you know this because you are so well-informed yourself.

  • If animals "evolved naturally, randomly" then how there are so many of them and why are we made the way we are if everything "evolved randomly" like you said. Wouldn't there be only 1 human existing on this planet and not 6 billion?

Why you would put this up on a Japanese cooking show is beyond me. It's a cooking show for crying out loud and in you go ranting on about something that has nothing to do with this just because you hate other people for surviving. Sir, you are a douche!

  • 1. You have a lot to learn about evolution, genetics and basic biology. I can't replace your sad lack of education here. Please educate yourself above a 4rth grade level in these areas, and tell your former teachers that they suck.

    2. I was talking about it here in answer to someone else's comment; we were having a discussion, if you read down below to see.

  • Look, the show that you've watched was a cooking contest to see which two chefs can make dishes based off of the secret ingredient which was provided for them. I seriously consider you do some research on this show and maybe watch the whole thing before coming to a conclusion.

I may not be the most educated in science but that doesn't mean that I'm totally uneducated.

  • I can understand that you may have been having a discussion with other people but the purpose of these forums were to comment on the show and the show only, not some anti-carnivorous philosophy. We can debate that elsewhere. And before you criticize other people based on different opinion, maybe you should look at yourself and assess your flaws before commenting on that of others.

  • I'm sorry if I insulted you on your education; I shouldn't have said that.

And I don't even remember how I got so far off track here.

I started out commenting that foie gras is created from ducks and geese that live wretched, tortured lives, force-fed until their livers swell 10 times the normal size with hepatic lipidosis, a painful disease.

The people talking in this video seem totally unaware of such suffering as they discuss the food. I think it's important to remember that.

  • Right, and I apologize for calling you a douche. Anyways, we all gotta eat. That's how nature is.

  • Thanks. Yeah, we must eat. I just hope people know what they're eating.

I'm reading a great book by Michael Pollan, called "The Omnivore's Dilemma".

I hope more people read it, it'll open your eyes to what you put in your mouth!

  • Umm... I agree actually with Roochfan20, we are higher-class animals (with the capability of thinking and creating) in the animal kingdom. In a predator world, I do agree that there is a reason why we are on top of the triangle, we consume because we CAN. It is the cycle of life, now if one follows your logic, then it is wrong for all animals on Earth to eat each other, I do not agree with you.

  • You haven't thought your side through. You say we eat animals "because we can". We can also easily kill whales until they all become extinct, or wipe out all the gorillas. We could do LOTS of things, but we don't, because it would be wrong and unethical.

So, just because we CAN do something is no argument that makes it RIGHT to do it.

And it is not wrong for some animals to eat each other; carnivores have no choice. We do. We don't need meat at all; I haven't for 2 years and feel great!

  • Dude, like YOU said, we have a choice. So I choose to eat meat and you choose to eat leafs. Now what you are proposing is like it's wrong for us to eat meat since we have a choice of not to. Thus, you cannot say that human beings are cruel azzholes since they kill animals and eat them, WE have a choice. Furthermore, I don't know if you are an atheist or not, but I am, and I truly believe that nature has created animals for human beings to consume since we are intellects, we have emotions, etc.

  • In addition, if you are not atheist, go ask yourself why Noah was asked to bring a pair of each kind of animals to his ark. In a Catholic point of view, God created everything and thus everything exists for us to consume. If I was told that it is unhealthy to eat some kinds of animals proven by scientific facts, I can accept it. However, if I was told that being carnivore is cruel since human beings kill animals, that is completely absurd.

  • Absurd is saying something like, "God created everything and thus everything exists for us to consume."

    Right.

If there was a God, and he created everything, do you really thing he meant for us to "consume" all of it? That would make humans a bunch of greedy, thoughtless assholes.

Oh, wait. That's what we pretty much are. Never mind.

  • I did not say to consume ALL of it. Things exist for a reason. You despise people eating foie gras and bullfighting? Taht is a culture, and in an anthropologist point of view, social systems exist for a reason and have meanings. Without those meanings social systems such as bullfighting for instance will cease to exist. Are you proposing to exterminate a culture? Furthermore, if you spoke of choice previously, why are you sounding like it is an obligation for people not to eat meat?

  • That's right; we DO have a choice. That's why I choose not to support the incredibly cruel practice and buy foie gras, and apparently you do.

Bullfighting is a whole other form of cruelty, too much to start arguing about here. But the "tradition" argument doesn't wash with me. Slavery was a "tradition" in the US a little over 100 years ago... getting rid of it didn't "exterminate a culture" any more than banning bullfights would.

Face it, your lame excuses are all failures. Face the TRUTH.

  • Like I said, social systems ceased to exist if their role do not fit in the society, slavery is abolished although it was a tradition, if you want. Is bullfighting abolished? No. And since we do have a choice, please just stop discriminating people choosing to eat foie gras. By the way, I never ate foie gras but personally I know it would be a wonderful experience just trying it. I do hope that you can respect my opinion as much as I respect yours.

  • I'll stop drinking milk and eat eggs and any kinds of meat so I can fight against the 67 billion cold-blooded animal-eating bastards.

I will start to kill my neighbours and my family so that less cereals are consumed everyday and more are saved for the animals.

I will have sex with animals like PETA did in South Park in order to show that animals and human are equal.

I will extinguish all the populations on Earth like Hitler did to protect us animals and our VegetARYAN race.

    Beat that :)

  • LOL

  • jingy: South Park? You get your information from South Park? No wonder you're so clueless.

  • @journeyman47 Hey you idiot, first of all, you are so damn pathetic bringing up a topic that I don't give a fuck anymore for 4 months. Second of all, there is no point arguing with a stupid nihilist fuck like you since you are just so damn pessimist about life, just look at all your YouTube comments. Third of all, just to shut your mouth, if you have taken any biology class, omnivores are actually more HEALTHIER since they have different sources of proteins. Leave me alone and go fuck elsewhere.

  • dying: your handle is appropriate, as you seem to see nothing wrong with your fellow mammals being tortured and dying just so you can eat something that is unhealthy, unnatural and disgusting.

Biology class? They don't teach you anything about nutrition in those classes. You have to actually do some reading on your own to learn about REAL nutrition-- something you probably never do.

  • @journeyman47 What the fuck?! What South Park? Are you just purely stupid or WHAT?! IF YOU ARE A DICKFACE WHO DOESN'T LIKE TO EAT MEAT, STOP WATCHING IRON CHEF THEN. AND STOP TELLING OTHERS TO STOP EATING MEAT, IT IS OUR CHOICE, NOT YOURS. Stupid piece of fuck.

  • jingy: Again, I see the mindset of someone who doesn't give a shit about the suffering of others, just to feed his fat greedy face.

  • I am simply trying to educate people here that the production of foie gras is extremely cruel BEFORE they eat it and add to supporting that cruelty.

Many people say afterwards "I wish I had known before"... I am helping people make informed choices, that's all.

Don't you beieve that everyone should know about what kind of food they eat?

    What's wrong with that?

  • Well, with the ironic tone, I think your education is probably a failure.

I agree with the animal rights, and it is true that certain activities should be abolished. But what is truth? What is right? It's not something that you said makes it truth or something "universal" makes it truth. I do not give any judgement to vegetarians, I'm simply stating my opinions here, unlike you who pull the "we human are assholes" trick, that does not explain anything.

  • dude, let it go

  • lol, I like the "VegetARYAN" part of your statement ^_^

  • You just contradict yourself, the truth is that people are enjoying foie gras and slavery is abolished, not bullfighting

dont b h8ters cus other ppl have different opinion than yours

  • Since when does "not supporting" a choice become hate?

You're twisting my words, I never used the word "hate".

  • "Face it, your lame excuses are all failures."

Nope, not hate, just some friendly advice for a guy with a different choice.

  • Choice, like you said, "Bottom line: We have a CHOICE. Bears, etc. don't. " Well certain people choose to eat foie gras, so stop crying around shouting animal rights if you are thinking of choice, think more on the human rights factor. We live on top of the food chain for a reason. If I were told that hooking up the brain of a monkey to my car's battery would somehow save my daughter's life, I would have done it without hesitation.

  • You keep saying, "Things exist for a reason" or "we are on top of the food chain for a reason". Bull! What "reason"? It is a matter of random evolution, there is no "reason" behind it.

I don't understand why you keep trying to come up with lame excuses for eating foie gras. I can't think of a more cruel way to treat birds in making it. "Human" rights? What about their rights? Don't they have any?

And spare me the "monkey brain" drivel, it has absolutely nothing to do with this.

  • how about the argument that we evolved with teeth designed for tearing meat just as well as eating grains and vegetables. Or that we are born with bacteria in our stomach to help process meat. Or the simple fact that it tastes good to us. We should practice responsible and sustainable farming, but the great thing about being a human is the ability to create such wonderful things from nature.

  • pinkle: there is no "argument" about our dental evolution: anyone with eyes can see that we do NOT have predator teeth. Do yours look like a dog's or cats? Hello?

As for bacteria in our stomach... um, hello again? There is ACID in stomachs that will kill any bacteria. Any in your intestine helps digest ALL food-- vegetables especially.

And I see nothing "wonderful" about creating a grotesque paste made from diseased sickly livers of tortured waterbirds.

Wake up and smell the blood.

  • It's not just because we can but we have to in order to survive. We can't just tell a lion not to go after a gazelle or an impala. To the lion, it's a necessity to survive.

  • Um, hello? Dumbass, millions of people live without stuffing animal carcasses in their faces every year and do just fine, myself included.

    In fact they're much HEALTHIER.

  • If you believe your cause to be just then fine continue doing as you do and hopefully people will follow you but dont deter and relegate your cause by being arrogant, pompous and pretentious

  • Sorry if I seem that way, but I get angry every time I link to this video. You're right, I need to be more reasonable, but I deal with some really stupid people on this vid (like solord below).

  • the same cruelty the average american goes through to get so fat?

they don't force the ducks to eat the extra feed. they just give them the opportunity to, and the ducks actually swallow the feed voluntarily. just like the average american, when given the choice, they choose to buy more fries and quarter pounders, and get livers comparable to foie gras.

gluttony exists in every living creature. don't blame the feeders for everything.

  • they put the tube in their mouths and pour the feed in, but they can't force the duck to swallow if it doesn't want to.

and the ducks actually runs to them everytime the feeder shows. would u run towards your worst nightmare, your kidnapper, your torturer in glee?

what you argued with was just the surface, what it looks like on first glance. it's easy to stereotype actions and intents, and view these game with personification.

research more on the subject before u get back to me.

  • ok anything. anyhow, given the benefit of the doubt, why come in here to whine about this when this is obviously a place where people don't want to care and just want to enjoy the culinary arts?

what do u hope to achieve? world peace? monkhood and nirvana?

u achieve nothing but a huge cold shower on everyone watching this video.

go away if u don't like it, don't come into this cruel cave of ours and disturb the cruel people trying to appreciate this thing. we don't do it to you.

  • Your idiotic name automatically disqualifies you from being listened to by anyone of intelligence; including me.

  • Ridiculous video? It's a cooking show, not footage of military torture. If you're going to bitch, bitch to the people who harvest it.

  • OMG - Im dying of jealousy :( I love foie gras and duck

  • The ending theme of Iron Chef is epic...

  • Dont know why, but Chen's complex facial expression makes me want to cry..

  • HOLY FUCK!

    UNEXPECTED! LOLZ!

    Highest score ever, 20, 20, 20, 20, 19, 19, 19, 19.

  • Just liked how Michiba pulled it off generally. The two first ones have shown their skill with adapting. Chen through veterancy and Michiba thanks for his cuisine flexibility.

  • I think he did it for the lulz.

  • Man, Yuko Asano is beautiful!

Thanks for the upload as always, Leon!

  • hey...they didnt show the judges opinions for 2 of chens dishes..he made 5 right?...i didnt see them eat the other two!!noooooo!
