Very atmospheric and inspiring video! I actually know a place with more than a few forgotten stories right next to my old homevillage that I'd love to share - let's see if I can get around to making a video when I next return there...
A very interesting place indeed, it's not everyday one can visit the grounds of castle, a very enjoyable experience. I will most definitely do a video on a location I know of close by my house.
@clackclickbang I have been thinking on what in the area that could even compare...
Most folktale & local legends I know are of haunting the types, accessible historic sites are rather simple; four graveyard hauntings, some manor house & estate hauntings, a small number of open-street & public-park hauntings, three earth-&-wood outpost forts w/ no hauntings or remarkable history - footnote-ish, there are whole-settelment urban-abandons - but none that are accessible.
This was fantastic. I definitely want to visit your country after I graduate from university, and this was just a taste of the beauty and history that's there. Thank you for doing this, it was great fun to watch. Hopefully the rest of your brigade will post about their locations.
There is a crack in a graveyard nearby, aproximately 1/2ft at it's widest and running nearly the full height of the 9-12 foot wall - suposedly during the construction one of the workers was burried /in/ the wall at that location... the remains were removed during one of the repairs, but the wall is perpetually irreparable... the local legend says it has been repaired, patched, and even rebuilt many times but keeps reopening.
Some say they have see a figure walk that length of wall at night.
Thank you for that little jaunt through history. Tony Robinson may have competition on his hands. Perhaps one day you could tell the story of Sawney Bean. A local Ayrshire cannibal from the 16th century who inspired Wes Craven to make The Hills Have Eyes!
@BirthOfSerpents Well the pilgrims were fanatics who fled England in order to persecute people then we started transporting criminals there: Not a good combination.
But myself i especially always wanted to visit Anglesey Island (i think it is pronounced this way...), other name is Inis Mon. Ancient sanctuary of Celtic Druids
The Gentleman's Guide to Old Sarum. :) I really enjoyed that. Thanks for sharing. I think the most useful bit of information that I could use in a RPG from this is that indeed something was buried, or kept in Old Sarum, and from it worshipers gained boons. Those in power relocated said thing when they left the old location, but none now know where it resides apart from those that worship it.
This was fantastic! Thanks for the history and walk through. I'd love to see other videos like this. Maybe a Stone Henge video sometime? I wasn't able to go out as far as Salisbury when I visited Great Britain. I have to admit, after listening to the legends of Old Sarum I couldn't help but think that that would be great cannon fodder for a World of Darkness setting (I'm a massive nerd I know). Did you or any of your gaming mates ever use these legends in your rpgs?
Ah, a video of Poppy, revisiting Helgen! Very interesting, indeed! Not much is left of Helgen, after that bittersweet day when Poppy barely escaped death from both executioner and dragon. Did any of the citizens of Helgen survive? I've always wondered. Well, amazingly, yes! (see: 5:24. 6:23, 8:49, etc.) At 2:49, Poppy successfully opens the locked gate, but uses his last pick. At 5:40, the well gate is locked, and Poppy is without a pick! (SPOILER--gate leads to a dungeon below Helgen).
Ooh, a history video. I had an idea you might be interested in stuff like that.
Interesting that you should mention the viking raiders. For some of them came from here - not two kilometers from where I'm writing this, an intact longship from the ninth century was excavated from a burial mound about a century ago.
@quadturbo4 And there's a mystery about the burial mound as well, for no one knows who was buried there. The skeleton found with the ship was that of an unusually tall man for his time, over six feet, and he had apparently suffered great injuries from combat.
Pythian Castle, Drury University, and Lincoln Hall in OTC here in the Blaghole of Springfield is haunted. Carthage MO is haunted by an entity known as the Ghost Lights.
@clackclickbang Problem. Pytthian Castle is on a Armed Forces Reserve, not sure if Drury and OTC would let me film. And Carthage is too far away for me to get there in a off day.
Same amount of snow fall. Just down the road from Stonehenge then as well. My granfather told me stories "fairy mounds" in the British Isles. IIRC old Sarum cathedral wasn't aligned correctly. I'll into that. I've been planning on doing a vid series about the historical importance of the area I live in.
