All they wanted to do was make America truly equal so we could live up to our promise. The entire country owes a debt of honor to the activists of Freedom Summer. It's truly astounding how brave and selfless they were--over 1,000 young people who risked everything--their lives--to come down to MIssissippi to help their fellow Americans.

This is from the movie Murder in Mississippi. Mississippi Burning was very loosely based on what happened after the murders. The investigation and so forth. Whereas Murder in Mississippi is kind of a prequel. What happened before the murders. Excellent and also fact based, unlike Mississippi Burning, which was largely artistic license.
Actually, I have seen both movies and while Mississippi Burning was an excellent film, it can't be considered infringing on by Murder in Mississippi for two reasons. One predates the other. MIM is about what led UP to MB. The other reason is that MIM was FAR more fact based. There was a LOT of artistic license taken in MB. I like facts when it comes to true events. Weird, I know.
Murder in Mississippi is a far superior film, as it deals strictly with the historical record and tells the story of the slain, not the FBI. James Chaney was from my home town, and I think MIM treated his story with more respect and less sensationalism.
In the foreword to the book, radical equations by Bob Moses, David Dennis, who spoke at Chaneys funeral, writes about the movie Mississippi Burning: The movie was a wrongheaded attempt at a sympathetic portrayal of the movement. It removed Blacks from the center of Mississippis civil rights struggle, portraying the African-American community as not just weak, but spineless as white power rampaged. In an especially galling falsification of history, the heroes of the film were the FBI.
Skin color is not in itself a problem, if you're white the race does have a history of racism and murder and slavery, but it doesn't necessarily mean you're like that. Hating yourself for being white is no better than hating yourself or other people for being black. The skin color doesn't come down to it, it's who you are that does.
I can't remember those times and I can't imagine it happen. It sounds so unbelievable to any teenager...but it's important to remember, especially when Mr. Obama became the president. Great acting, though.

I'd like to point out that the Northern states were the ones to actually capture slaves then sell them to southerners, which less than 5% of southern whites owned slaves. I never said you were illegal. I dont have problems with Mexicans, they work harder and faster then any other race I know of. While in grade school, I went to a predominately black school. Out of 30 kids in my class there were only 3 white students.. The majority of the population in MS is black, we have the highest black population then any other state.

This is from the movie Murder in Mississippi. Mississippi Burning was very loosely based on what happened after the murders. The investigation and so forth. Whereas Murder in Mississippi is kind of a prequel. What happened before the murders. Excellent and also fact based, unlike Mississippi Burning, which was largely artistic license.

Actually, I have seen both movies and while Mississippi Burning was an excellent film, it can't be considered infringing on by Murder in Mississippi for two reasons. One predates the other. MIM is about what led UP to MB. The other reason is that MIM was FAR more fact based. There was a LOT of artistic license taken in MB. I like facts when it comes to true events. Weird, I know.

Murder in Mississippi is a far superior film, as it deals strictly with the historical record and tells the story of the slain, not the FBI. James Chaney was from my home town, and I think MIM treated his story with more respect and less sensationalism.

Skin color is not in itself a problem, if you're white the race does have a history of racism and murder and slavery, but it doesn't necessarily mean you're like that.
