Halo wars takes plac at the events of the spirit of fire ship and the starting of the covenent war so the spartans have the Mark version without shields since they were developes right after the war started. and halo 3 ends the halo trilogy as since the hlos are now not a threat.

They are going by the novels, like the new one, HALO:CONTACT HARVEST. Sargent Avery Johnson and his team have both battle rifles and ma5b rifles. Plus they only were fighting brutes!

There are different types of MJOLNIR armor, for example, the mark 4 in halo combat evolved, then at the beginning of halo2 the chief gets the mark 5 armor. So they could have an older model

but the game hasn't came out yet so...

Ok, to make some things clear, this game is mostb likely to be based on the 3 of the four Halo books out there, the first being Eric Nylnds Halo: The Fall of Reach, The Second being William C. Daitz Halo: The Flood, The Third Halo: First Strike and the last one being Halo: Ghost of Onyx. To Clear some things up, not every spartan died. 5 or 6 lived of the spartan 2 program.

Halo Wars is what Halo : Combat Evolved was going to be originally. Its not a 1st person shooter, its a strategy game, not unlike Age of Empires. This game has nothing to do with the Halo 1st person shooter series storyline. But it is gonna be fucking awesome.
