Many Xians claim the "son of man" used by jesus meant some1 other than himself. They use it when I raise the point that jesus predicted his 2nd coming to occur within the lives of his disciples, before his generation passed (generation = 40 yrs). So which is it? Does the son of man refer to jesus or something else?

I'm now an atheist & my deconversion had nothing to do with any "unbelief market." I just spent 3 and a half years on scripture, the early church, the oldest manuscripts I could find, and last but certainly not least, the Ugaritic Texts, which expose Judaism as a "constructed" religion, using the Canaanite Pantheon.

After learning what I have, plus 65 yrs of experience, I'm firmly convinced that this religion is fraudulent...but no one convinced me of that...only evidence.

It's simply that Bart Erhman has an agenda (personal as much as any Christian does) and a financial stake (unlike any zealous Christian) at promoting his controversial views and as is evident here there is a market out there for this kind of scholarship. It sells!! If the DaVinci code with its poor history could be believed and blindly followed, why wouldn't Bart Erhman who mixes good scholarship with personal beliefs about Christianity and its development? It's nihilism.

Not everyone who goes against the christian religion, or any faith based belief, necessarily has a dishonest agenda. Truth is, I see more believers being dishonest to maintain belief.

Bart Ehrman's lectures are pretty good. He does not take a sectarian perspective in his lectures which is the reason this guy is responding against Bart Ehrman. Bart Ehrman addresses many of the contradictions in Christianity and it's many sects that contradict each other. Christians from one sect have beliefs that are completely different than the beliefs of another sect.  The guy in this video does what many christians do: Accuse other christians as being evil. He should look in his heart

You really need to do more research about the origins of your bible. Do a quick search on YouTube for "The Bible's Buried Secrets Nova". You should find a Nova documentary about why Moses wrote the Torah. ...after that, go ahead and search "Banned From the Bible Discovery Channel". Look, the Bible misses a huge chunk of Jesus' childhood. Why? There ARE texts that document Jesus' youth, but it was taken from the Bible for one reason or another.

That's if a kid reads the Bible in a very simplistic sunday school Evangelical sense of course that's true. If there were any academic failings in Erhman's work, the fundies in Colorado would have goten rid of him by now. They have not, the only conclusion is that there are NO FLAWS in his scholarship.

What is not well known, but easily verified via personal research, is the inconsistencies in statements of fact within the tradional gospels. Most obviously the events after the death of Jesus.

Ditto for the accounts of PoTarsus's visions in Acts, and others.

Dr. Ehrman has a doctorate from Princeton Theological Seminary. Is he recongized **world wide** as an EXPERT in New Testament history, even by people who do not support his interpretions.

Further he is not "trying resurrect something that was rejected". He is simply pointing out historical documents. Yes, I HAVE listened to all of his Teaching Company courses.

To say that Ehrman is a 'bad scholar' and then make the arguments you have made, is hilarious. Ehrman's arguments are solid. Use of the Gnostic gospels and other writing of the era, is valid to show the beliefs of the early churches. Claiming that the Apostolic authorship of the gospels is solid is not historically accurate. These are self-evident truths.

A few years ago, I picked up Bart Ehrman's book, "Misquoting Jesus" and ended up throwing it in the trash part of the way through. Since then, I call him Bart Error Man because the man has very clearly studied himself out of the faith. He started out fundamental, and proceeded to Wheaton College. Then became more and more worldly in his understanding of theological matters. Hence, he writes books discouraging people from trusting God's word.
