Hmmm. Moody Bible College, Princeton Theological Seminary and now the James A Gray Distinguished Professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He reads and speaks Greek, Hebrew, Aramaic, Syriac, Latin and German.
But he is not qualified?
He has actually read most of the oldest source material.Have you?
In short, you are wrong and not willing to admit that Ephesians, Acts, Collossians, Titus, 1 and 2 Timothy and Jude are forgeries.
the bible is corupted, it has been changed and altered. thats why there is so much contradictions..get over it. Jesus is a servant of God, dont make a fool of urself
u are deceitful, bart doing the work of satan? you are doing the work of satan you are worshipping a man!! he has a good scholarship, if he hadnt, he has still knowledge than you.
I stopped listening when you called him a "child of Satan." Christians love to label people this way just because they _think outside of the BOOK_. I deconverted from Christianity when I realised how fallible the Holy Bible is. Life is better, I'm no longer oppressed by "sin", and I can love people (including myself) more truly. (Oh, and my God is bigger than the Christian God!)
lol, Jesus was such a baller he referred to himself in the third person. Do you ever sit back and listen to the fantasy stories you tell? They are quite entertaining
Many Xians claim the "son of man" used by jesus meant some1 other than himself. They use it when I raise the point that jesus predicted his 2nd coming to occur within the lives of his disciples, before his generation passed (generation = 40 yrs). So which is it? Does the son of man refer to jesus or something else?
Jesus failed in his own prophecy! Ya can't have any better evidence than that.
Btw, are you aware that Judaism was polytheistic before changing to Mono??
Yet there are others who capitalize on your anger at Christians and they're a bunch of nihilists who could care less about you the unchristian. On one hand they're giving you what you want to hear and on the other they're making their fortunes. If you want truth, listen to it from those who wouldn't profit from your unbelief. Listen to those who wouldn't benefit from your ignorance of the facts. They know there is an angry market out there for unbelief, they will use it regardless of facts.
I'm now an atheist & my deconversion had nothing to do with any "unbelief market." I just spent 3 and a half years on scripture, the early church, the oldest manuscripts I could find, and last but certainly not least, the Ugaritic Texts, which expose Judaism as a "constructed" religion, using the Canaanite Pantheon.
After learning what I have, plus 65 yrs of experience, I'm firmly convinced that this religion is fraudulent...but no one convinced me of that...only evidence.
This guy here has every right to say what he believes because he defends his position and his faith, as much as Erhman makes a living of his unbelief. It's just this guy isn't making any money bashing someone else. Those who bash Christians are cheering their prophet who says what they want to hear, as much as we Christians cheer our Lord and God Jesus Christ. Yet neither you the unchristian nor I are making any money. Our bickering is emotional, faith versus anger at those of faith.
It's simply that Bart Erhman has an agenda (personal as much as any Christian does) and a financial stake (unlike any zealous Christian) at promoting his controversial views and as is evident here there is a market out there for this kind of scholarship. It sells!! If the DaVinci code with its poor history could be believed and blindly followed, why wouldn't Bart Erhman who mixes good scholarship with personal beliefs about Christianity and its development? It's nihilism.
Bart having a personal agenda is entirely possible, but can you demonstrate your claim that this is a fact?
Not everyone who goes against the christian religion, or any faith based belief, necessarily has a dishonest agenda. Truth is, I see more believers being dishonest to maintain belief.
I was a Xian for over 50 years before I graduated to atheism, or non-belief. My agenda is getting at the truth of it all, and that's all that matters to me. I wanted to know, so I studied.
Bart Ehrman's lectures are pretty good. He does not take a sectarian perspective in his lectures which is the reason this guy is responding against Bart Ehrman. Bart Ehrman addresses many of the contradictions in Christianity and it's many sects that contradict each other. Christians from one sect have beliefs that are completely different than the beliefs of another sect. The guy in this video does what many christians do: Accuse other christians as being evil. He should look in his heart
He is a poor scholar but....you [assert] he is a tool of Satan??? A mythical being based on another mythical being [from Zoroastrian theology] which you have no evidence of existing??? This is the height of schizophrenia =D
You really need to do more research about the origins of your bible. Do a quick search on YouTube for "The Bible's Buried Secrets Nova". You should find a Nova documentary about why Moses wrote the Torah. ...after that, go ahead and search "Banned From the Bible Discovery Channel". Look, the Bible misses a huge chunk of Jesus' childhood. Why? There ARE texts that document Jesus' youth, but it was taken from the Bible for one reason or another.
I'm an apostate Christian, an atheist, and Jesus, Interrupted was full of deception. There were a few good points, but lots of crap.
I'm one third through Lost Christianities, and it's like shoveling shit. It is blatantly deceptive to pretend that some of these rejected documents were tossed out due to doctrinal difference alone, just dogmatically so.
Ehrman makes bad presentations, where he hypes up bad arguments, because he wants money and hates conservatives.
Do NOT associate with those given to Change! The Lord has made all for Himself, Yes, even the wicked for the day of doom. Even a child is known by his deeds, Whether what he does is pure and right. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding, In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty! Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people -Proverbs FEAR NOT
What do you mean that anyone with a 3rd grade education would understand that Jesus was referring to himself as the son of man? That's if a kid reads the Bible in a very simplistic sunday school Evangelical sense of course that's true. But the 3rd grader cannot read the ancient texts or understand the manuscripts or the ancient historical context from which this document was written so for you to make such a simplistic assumption reveals your simplistic worldview as well.
I'm sorry. I know how you are feeling but Dr. Ehrman is correct. He too was a fundamentalist Christian. -- Once you know something you cannot unknow it. And it's better to know even if especially if you've been brainwashed into a false religion like christianity.
If there were any academic failings in Erhman's work, the fundies in Colorado would have goten rid of him by now. They have not, the only conclusion is that there are NO FLAWS in his scholarship.
What is not well known, but easily verified via personal research, is the inconsistencies in statements of fact within the tradional gospels. Most obviously the events after the death of Jesus.
Ditto for the accounts of PoTarsus's visions in Acts, and others.
Why don't you all tell us what YOUR qualifications are?
Dr. Ehrman has a doctorate from Princeton Theological Seminary. Is he recongized **world wide** as an EXPERT in New Testament history, even by people who do not support his interpretions.
Further he is not "trying resurrect something that was rejected". He is simply pointing out historical documents. Yes, I HAVE listened to all of his Teaching Company courses.
Bart Ehrman is a world-wide recognized scholar. You are the dork, mister. The only scholar you would recognize is one that lays out beliefs that align perfectly with yours. You are a very ignorant person. Please study, study and study before putting such crap on YouTube.
To say that Ehrman is a 'bad scholar' and then make the arguments you have made, is hilarious. Ehrman's arguments are solid. Use of the Gnostic gospels and other writing of the era, is valid to show the beliefs of the early churches. Claiming that the Apostolic authorship of the gospels is solid is not historically accurate. These are self-evident truths.

A few years ago, I picked up Bart Ehrman's book, "Misquoting Jesus" and ended up throwing it in the trash part of the way through. Since then, I call him Bart Error Man because the man has very clearly studied himself out of the faith. He started out fundamental, and proceeded to Wheaton College. Then became more and more worldly in his understanding of theological matters. Hence, he writes books discouraging people from trusting God's word.
PS - Your Elvis analogy was both funny and on spot.
Yeah, I'll go to your friends "blog" for scholarship instead of Dr. Ehrman...ha!

You mean in the same way all those big time preachers make millions exploiting their..."faith?"
How about emotional defense of belief (unsubstantiated) vs. a rational approach in seeking evidence for the god claim?
When I became Born Again, it was purely emotional. When I deconverted, it was a slow, rational decision.
