This specific tornado is probably one of the most recorded tornadoes ever if not the most. I can only imagine that there were probably millions tracking it at the time it was on the ground. I remember watching this tornado on The Weather Channel as it approached and passed over Tuscaloosa, Alabama. I'm surprised its not known by some fearful name. It surely is an infamous tornado on an infamous day. "The Tuscaloosa Big One"? And this year likely will be worse.
wow that is amazing. if i was there, i probably would have been balled up in a corner, and bawling my eyes out lol. not afraid to admit it, i hate big severe storms, im afraid of them lol
omg i was like so scared and after the tornado it was just quiet no sound it was like a ghost town i thank god i didnt get hit but mhyy cuzzo did everybodys ok
I'm not being thick or anything, but where do you go in the event of a tornado, in the basement, bathroom?
I hear a lot of stories and such but, yeh. I live in the UK and even though i think we get more recorded tornado's they are nothing, as in absolutely nothing. :)
@MysteriousKiwi Basement would be the safest area. If not that, go to a windowless bathroom, hallway, or a closet in your house. Also, make sure you are on the first floor of your home.
@MysteriousKiwi I would like to add, that some places have underground shelters, becase an EF4/EF5 Tornado can and will destroy a house in a matter of seconds.
So just what kept this thing running? What was its power source? Surely there wasn't enough surrounding air to keep it spinning, sucking things up, and moving forward all at the same time?
The question is, what kept all of the tornadoes that day running? The answer is a couple of things; the incredibly humid, unstable air from the gulf of mex. combined with La Nina's active winds- They had an incredibly powerful jet stream bearing down on them which only maxed out their movement and development, and when that huge mass of unstable, warm moist air met with a big cold front that collided head-on, every storm exploded. Every single ingredient that day for tornadoes were PERFECT.
@poodinkydingbat1 Those were my thoughts exactly. We're close to having a record warm winter, I can only cross my fingers and hope droughts don't worsen and more warm-air caps don't blow into the great plains again to spawn another family of tornadic supercells like last year... La Nina is unforgiving :X
@TheWaynelds I just read your comment; I did not know that such storm exist. So my question would be " any YouTube videos out here that would show such a tornado in progress ?
This tornado has by far the largest updraft I have ever seen! Also the roar from it is not something you get in many videos. Very good job on this video guys.
The only problem I have with this video is, all that debris which was casually mentioned were people's houses. Seems a little...insensitive. Impressive footage though, the thing seems to grow right in front of the camera. That was a hell of a day.
That's crazy. It almost looks like there's an opening in the tornado at 1:48, but if you keep watching it, all the vorticies just slither inside the hole, cover it and keep moving upwards. What an incredible structure and circulation for a tornado.
@laloquiz1 No it's not just you, I saw it too but didn't want to be the first to say anything about it if no one else saw it; then I came across your comment... You can see it quite noticeably @2:20, specifically. MANY people have reported seeing MULTIPLE faces within this particular tornado, but the face seen in this video was more skeletal (skull-like) than any of the others I've seen.
Oh hell naw i wood be scrammblin' around tryna get to the lowest floor. LOL! anywaysI'm glad yall were okay. I live in NC, in Jacksonville as a matter of fact. We got hit really bad but not as bad as tuscaloosa. those 3 days of nothing but fear and tornadoes were just inforgettable.

@Blu3Resent this stuff happens all the time here bro xD any southerner can tell you, its just something that is common.. it's the most exciting and at the same time deadliest thing we ever get to see
@MatrixFactoryGuy ur a complete idiot, if u actually watched news or read the paper. Ur gay ur 5 years old,a nd this killed 72 people in TUSCALUSSA ALABAMA
@MatrixFactoryGuy actually I know several people who's homes were destroyed in this tornado. Several people who's lives were ripped appart, because of this. Forst Lake the neighborhood this twister hit will never be the same, but the community has rallied to rebuild. Do some research, dude this tornado really happened and it affected real people.
@MatrixFactoryGuy THIS WAS NOT FAKE!!! i was here and my house was one of the many buildings that were destroyed and my uncle was one of the 15 who were killed!! my life has been ruined by this thing so dont you dare say this was fake!!

Your footage is absolutely AWESOME. The angle you shot it from is an angle I haven't seen yet so thank you for filming and posting this. I always wondered how the tornado moved through town on the path that it took and your video truly showed pieces in the path that I had not seen. So Thanks... and glad you all were okay - and tell Montana guy that his video skills are damn good. :)
We dont care about the comments, anyone would say stupid things on that situation. The footage is priceless. Horrific tornado. It should be the most documented tornado so far... lol
Amazing Footage!!! I posted a video too, and have gotten a number of comments about the audio...It's easy in hind-sight to criticize what someone said while an F5 was less than a mile away, while you're video tapping something like this, you don't realize how many people are being hurt, you stand amazed by what you are looking at. I'm sorry for the loss people experienced, but still am amazed by this storm!
Does the term "idiot" mean anything to you? If youi are a University student I am surprised they have lowered their standards of admissions as low as they have to admit you. Not only are you stupid for standing there filming this, you sound like stoner.
Amazing footage of a horrific event. Don't feel bad about the audio. It's human nature that we become strangely excited and fascinated by catastrophic events. As someone said before, it's the adrenaline rush...
Proving that you can be right beside the rare EF5 tornado and not SCREAM YOUR HEAD OFF like Reed Timmer from "tornado videos, who ruins each and every tornado video he shoots because he wants to be the star of the video, not the tornado.
I think this guy did a great job w/ his video! He shoulda been in a shelter though! That was a huge tornado coming to close especially for being in an apartment! As for the original audio,if you've never experienced the aftermath 1st hand, it's hard to imagine the devastation & when you're filming something so awesome, adrenaline does kick in & it's hard to think about what you are saying. Great job! Super video. Thanks for sharing your experience. You all will forever be n our thoughts & prayers.
I couldn't expect anyone watching a huge monster like this and taping it at the same time to be like a professional news reporter covering a live news event...this is LIFE! (or unfortunately death) in the moment caught on camera by Joe Q Citizen!
@join2go neither are "awesome". a tornado is 'devastating'. it demolished parts of that city & caused a lot of difficulty for many families. what is "awesome" about that? it's 'unfortunate' that mother nature doesn't care for humans---not "awesome". your vocabulary is very poor or you're too lazy to think about how to correctly describe a situation and its results.
See what I mean about the original audio??? Its not me but I don't want people to think that.
The guy who filmed it apologized for his words at the time but the adrenaline of the situation had him in that mode. He'd never seen a tornado having been raised in Montana so forgive him, he truly feels bad about it but the original audio is better than replacing it with cheesy music.
This is not my video nor is it affiliated with 13akersDozenMedia.
the filmer must not be aware of the fact just how close he was while filming to being in a life or death situation

Proving that you can be right beside the rare EF5 tornado and not SCREAM YOUR HEAD OFF like Reed Timmer from "tornado videos, who ruins each and every tornado video he shoots because he wants to be the star of the video, not the tornado.
Great job!

(or unfortunately death) in the moment caught on camera by Joe Q Citizen!

it is awesome!!it is the mother nature and it is awesome how that mom doesn't care for humans,,she just does her thing!!
