  • lol, he says mess-ah boo-gee

  • Man, that is the best tone demo outside of classic tweed amp rebuilds that I've ever heard.

  • I have a Mark V combo...It's amazing, hands down the sweetest amp I have ever played.

its a tweekers amp, a good read of the instructions is needed.

I have an Epiphone Elitist Les Paul (on the look out for new pickups if anyone has an opinion please reply!) and it sounds amazing. I also play a fender jazzmaster and the reverb will make the hair on the back of your head stand right up... sweet...

toss a tc electronics flasback in the loop for a killer sounding rig.

  • I was so close to buy this amp at the store but I end up buying a les Paul 58 reissue VOS:) I will buy this amp this year;)

  • God damn......I want this amp but I need 2500 hundred bucks. FUCK.

  • First comment of 2012, I'm damn proud. This amp is awesome btw

  • Awesome tone! Could you tell me a little bit about your rig? Oh, wait...

  • whats the song/riff at 1:11

  • @TexRangers7 I dont know but it sounds really Tremontishhhh

  • I need this amp in my life! But I'm holding onto a pretty crappy Epiphone Les Paul Standard, will my mediocre guitar drag this amp down and mean I've wasted my money?

  • @XalmostbrokenX Na, but a new guitar will help the amp do better.

  • @XalmostbrokenX i think that a good amp is way more efficient than a good guitar to achieve a better tone...a crappy amp will make sound crappy everything you put in it, a crappy guitar still depends on how you play it. that amp will never be a waste of money

  • @XalmostbrokenX No. The Epiphone Les Paul is an average guitar, not a crappy one. If you play with a lot of gain it won't make a difference what guitar you are playing. But, the Epiphone Les Paul into a Mark V should sound great.

  • @XalmostbrokenX no. it most likely will not. unless the pickups hum, in which case you should probably upgrade those, which is possible for very little money.

  • @XalmostbrokenX No. A shitty guitar will sound much better through a top class amp. It won't sound great, but it won't sound like it does playing through a solid state Crate either.

  • @XalmostbrokenX With decent electronics it wont sound bad. My advice would be to go for a Paul Reed Smith SE. They are under $1000 and very well made. Good rock guitars if thats your style. Go perfect with Mesa

  • @XalmostbrokenX Repup

  • @XalmostbrokenX Epiphone les pauls are NOT mediocre, maybe the resale value isn't there like a Gibson, but the Epi's seem to play a bit better, I'd say spend about $160 on a Crunch Lab and Liquifire into the guitar, and watch your tone increase a hundred-fold xD

  • can i put a combo on top of a cabinet?

  • @luisguitarc214 yes you can

  • @phatycolby282 oh cool, thanks

  • we recorded our stuff on peavey & mesa boogie combos...if you are interested in what we got, check our channel

  • Why does he use the best kind of guitars for each channel. I mean if you have a PRS, nothing can go wrong, it will sound great with any amp. The technique is to make an amp that can make the worst guitar sound a little like music.

  • @Artudorockz if you can afford a Mark V - you're probably not playing a crap guitar though...

  • 3.790 $ in my Country !! Tell me how can i afford it! God damn so expensive!

  • can someone tell me why they are so expensive i was just wondering.

  • @funnygangink Why is it so expensive? For the love of Pete, LOOK at the thing! It has more features than a Boeing 747, the quality of a Ferrari and a tone to make Beethoven tear up and cry in joy. It could be twice the money and still be a good deal. Mesa has it all.

  • @funnygangink it has raw power with tubes these things are worth it i've tried them i couldn't stop playing it i had a gibson les paul and had heavy distortion and the chunk of the bass wouldn't get muddy with the vintage celestion in it...it was amazing all the line 6 guitarists at guitarcenter were jealous of my tone

  • @funnygangink Hand made. High quality components. Engineering that allows excellent definition using chords with a variety of intervals. IMO the best thing about them, you can play any damn chord you want and the signal stays tight.

  • MARK TREMONTI PLAYING STYLE, YEAH!!! 1:11

  • Holy fucking clean channel O_O

  • @murfdog19 sorry but i dont agree with you. this guy could have mixed it up. and his riffs are totally fruity.

  • ugh i get tired of all these demos having the dudes play the same fruity rock n roll riffs on all the settings. they should have a versatile guitarist demo a versatile amp.

  • @InfiniteMisery003 The player who demos the amp plays what the target audience wants. Many players who buy Mesa amps play good old rock music. And there's nothing fruity about it. I can play jazz, blues, metal, and country......but when I jam by myself I play rock and roll.....because it ROCKS!

  • f*cking england.... never playin' metal with the legendary MOP tone....

  • wats the point of buying this expensive to play blues? play some metallica

  • Not a bad demo but why are you playing blues on the extreme gain channel?

  • WHERES THE METAL!

  • there's mids, then there's fucking stupid mids

  • Yeah, test an amp with a strat with stock pickups, real smart

  • @Deathz0r94 Did you even watch the whole demo? NO..!

  • @mazsenior Still sounds like shit no matter how you look at it. You need better pickups for this kind of amp to shine.

  • @Deathz0r94 No it doesn't. You just buy into the marketing hype of Pick-ups, when it's really the player.

  • @mazsenior Nah dude. I get that, but that pickup/amp combo is for shit. They may as well have used a crate for the demo.

  • I hear this is a pretty loud amp for a 1X12. Would it do okay in a bedroom setting where it had to be somewhat quiet? Say in an apartment?

  • @ilivestrong25 It switches from 90W to 45W to 10W so I think that it should be ok at 10W.

  • @ilivestrong25 Honestly, the 10W setting would be fine. Other than that, it would sound better if you have it cranked on the other power settings...

  • wich pickups are on the strat? thank you!

  • wich pickups?

  • Soooooo muddy.

  • marshall and fender will always sell more . but this amps rocks for a studio guitarrist i think

  • this is amp is incredible...unfortunately after a few weeks i have to get rid of it :(. I will end up buying it as soon as i can again but for now family calls....if someone is interested message me...

  • I am more of a Marshall/British Amp tone guy, but this Mark V sounds awesome, would be a very good addition.

  • It's versatile as hell, but I wasn't blown away by any of the tones. Maybe it's the demo but this didn't sell me. Lacks shimmer and compression.

  • @1971SuperLead Dude, check out the Petrucci demos on Mesa's youtube page. Your mind and ears will be blown, sir.

  • @blinkdude182 I looked for Petrucci playing one of these combos but I couldn't find one.

  • As a brit he shurely must have loved the tweed mode...

  • Great clean, crunch, blues and lead?? Except most extreme distort sounds, this can do everything. You know, it use to be, that people spent this much for the amp, that could do just one of these tones well !! Oh, how spoiled we are.....

  • @checkie4ever dude, this amp destroys teh rectifier series for metal. Extreme mode is monstrous. I just sold a Road King but I played them side by side extensively first. The MKV absolutely destroys the RK. Seriously...no bias here...I could have kept either. MKV has a TON more bottom end and is 10 times tighter than the RK.

Check out the haggerty's music demo #8 for the extreme mode. The dude does a pretty good job of dialing it in for a brutal metal tone at around 1:10...

  • mark III rules, why didn t mesa put that one on the 5??? nice playing dude.

  • Best amp ever made. Cleans that wil make a girl wet. Bluesy rythm crunch that will make a girl wet and blistering metal tones that will make a girl wet! Just be sure u keep a mop n towel around when u playing near women. Or some men for that matter... :S

  • @broodwar1 Nice description

  • I heard a Mark V at the Amp show and was blown away, now if I was just rich! Seriously they are amazing. I had someone try to prove to me The Orange Amp was just as good but they were not successful. I was even more convinced I wanted the Mark V. In my opinion the Orange got smoked!

  • Sorry, but from this clip, I didn't like it. The cleans were nice. I liked the cleans, but the gain channels left me wanting more. Also, and this might be an eq setting, but it sounded too dark, too round, and lacking the kind of sustain I would've liked. For the money I would get a Bogner Shiva, or even an Egnater.

  • the best way I can describe this amp is 'inspiring'....my Les Paul was like that, too..it is a piece of gear that simply makes you WANT to play...and in doing so makes you a better musician. that is kind of stuff you have to really buy and groove with .sometimes it can be expensive. but its an investment that pays off time and time again! Nothing is more satisfying than playing through high end gear...

  • The new dual and triple rectifier can also get a lot of these sounds as well.

  • best i've ever played.

  • I just about have the money for this but the price is scary.I dont know if I've got the balls to drop £2000 on an amp.

  • @jimllfaxit dont do it...you can get a good equalizer and find all the same sounds............this sounds like a southern rock, country, blues amp....is that what you want?

  • @jareds1007 this is EXTREMELY far away from a southern rock, country and blues amp. Santana used a mark I, and its circuit is in this amp. Metallica used a Mark II C+, and its circuit is in this amp. Both Dream Theater and Lamb of God use Mark V's. This guy is just playing blues through it and setting the EQ to a more vintage sounding setting.

  • @ChetZenor oh. good to know, thanks.

  • @jimllfaxit trust me bro If you want a great sound you can't mess up with a markv:)

  • @jimllfaxit

Do it ... , you will not regret (got 2 boogies myself, got the first one - .50 Caliber - 25 years ago and it still is an incredible amp). Precious money, well spent

  • @astmagrooved Oh man, I just saw some videos of .50 Cal. and it's really almost all, one could want. And as you mentioned ,this wonder amp is almost three decades old. They know, how the built a instrument.....

  • @checkie4ever ... Yup, they sure know how to built them ... :-)

  • @jimllfaxit It's worth it if you've played it and know for sure. I was in a similar situation when I bought my DC-10 head. I listened to Mesa's online, and did research to make sure it had the flexibility I wanted. I loved everything about the amp except the price($1,500). I tracked one down and played the living shit out of it. 5 seconds after plugging in I knew it was mine. If you are a serious player, this is a no brainer. Buying my Mesa/Boogie DC-10 is the best decision I've ever made.

  • @jimllfaxit I also wanted to add that I've owned my DC-10 for 12 years of heavy use and I've never had a single problem with it. I've played well over 250 gigs, and countless rehearsals and recording sessions during that time, and It sounds and plays just as good as it did the day I bought it. Routine maintenance (cleaning it / changing the tubes / etc....) will keep these amps soaring forever. The longer I have my amp, the happier I am that I took the plunge and bought it. Love it!!!!

  • @DigitalDyk

Thanks for the info.I know Mesa make great amps. Its just the price tag.But I suppose you get what you pay for.Cheers man.

  • @jimllfaxit Yeah, but this is like an AMAZING amp, it blows them all out of the water! And a lot of your tone is in the amp.

  • @jimllfaxit I just played one last night bro, if I had the cash I'd drop it in a heartbeat

  • @jimllfaxit you don't

  • @jimllfaxit fucking worth it dude. it's mesa boogie. and it's the mark series.

  • @jimllfaxit well THIS is scarier.Just drop dem monnays.

  • @jimllfaxit Buy the amp at Guitar Center and you can trade in/up with them anytime.

  • @jimllfaxit i would for a mark 5, were u getting the head or combo?

  • @jimllfaxit I can't tell you how to spend your money dude, however... take some vitamins and fortify those stones, you will not regret it! I have a Mark IIC+ and it's awesome, it's fricking phenomenal!!! This Mark V is 4 amps in one and the IIC+ is one of them. fyi I have had my Boogie for over 20 years.

  • @jimllfaxit Believe me, once you play this amp for at least 10 minutes, you won't even care about the money, believe me, I know what I'm saying.

  • @jimllfaxit It's definitely risky. I spent $2300 on a triple rectifier and I hate it. I don't think you would be disappointed with this amp though.

  • @Tb0neZ5 I guess you aint into heavyrock/metal if you hate the triple rectifier as its mainly used for that type of music.

    Keep Rocking

  • @Sk0osH I know that's what they're for, I'm in 2 metal bands. They are really great for rhythm but useless for lead in my opinion.

  • @jimllfaxit Same here. That price tag for a small combo... Then again, if you've got the means, why not.

  • Great review with a descent player! Just don't think I want to go back down Boogie Road! Great dependable amps though...just " Boogie-ish "!

  • @davonwav This one doesn't have the Boogie "curse", where just brushing the tone controls accidentally can kill your tone. This is the closest to a Plug & Play/ Easy to get Killer tone amp they've ever made.

  • The Mark I sound in this amp sounds more Mark I than my real Mark I. awesome.

  • Paul?

  • A Sustaining wonder..... I love it!!

  • This amp has some INSANE SUSTAIN!

  • thank you so much for being a better guitarist than Paul from Guitar World.

  • man the sustain on that amp sounds amazing

  • haha, of course it ends with a cliffhanger

  • "Mick Taylor": good name for a guitarist

  • Boy, the DGT sounded really nice through that. I run mine into the Mesa Lonestar Special, and it kills. That Mk V is a really versitile amp though.

  • sounds quite muddy to me. Can this thing shimmer for leads?

  • @Gtrplyr1 yeah, I find my Mark V head with my mills acoustics 212 cab w/ V30s to sound plenty trebly enough for awesome leads. The mark series is known for its lead sound. Besides, from his settings, the master volume is around 9:30 or so, it really starts to soar and rock at around 10:30-11:00.

  • @Nitrotigerz nice, seems like a cool amp. Thanks for your imput

  • But do you think they put enough knobs on it? I mean they could have added more somewhere, right????

  • tone city!

  • If you're worried about what kind of amp you're using, you're not using enough drugs, and you're probably not heavy metal at all.

  • Great demo! I loved the sounds and the versatility. One thing I especially enjoyed about this amp is that it did NOT sound like a thrash metal amp...but rather something that could produce great classic rock (early VH) sounds, liquidly lead sounds (ala Larry Carlton & Robben Ford), and some screaming hard rock sounds (ala Steve Morse). I definitely need to get out and demo one in person. Again, thanks for a really nice demo vid.

  • Hi Mick..BEST demo of this amp for defo, great job man!! Can you tell me what guitar you are playing (not the Strat) Looks like a PRS, but 4 control knobs??? Is it a custom build with a Piezo or something?? Or not even a PRS? Cheers

  • you guys really screw up the demo by using single coils for clean and buckers for gain, way to be cliche.

  • @ChillBroify

Weirdo Alert ! Weirdo Alert !

  • @Rizzy55 your so cool bro

  • Megadeth.

    Lucretia

  • How heavy is this puppy? love those tones!!!

  • And listen to Peace Sells.

Both of them have meaningful lyrics.

Lucretia is a personal experience and Peace Sells is a political song.

  • Please listen to Lucretia, by ]v[egadet]-[.

Aint the fastest or heaviest song, but this will disprove your opinion i hope.

  • HAahaa.

Please explain how Thrash is a shit genre, and then explain how it is just annoying speed picking and palm muting with "stupid" lyrics.

  • Why change guitars throughout the test ? Gives no hope of comparing the different modes with any idea of what is the amp and the guitar. They should know better.

  • Nothing sounds like a PRS through a Boogie.

  • @mrichman nothing sounds like a schecter/ibanez/gibson/fender/musicman/peavey/epiphone through a boogie

  • why does the best amp in the world have to also be the MOST EXPENSIVE??????? im pretty sure its not really THE most expensive, but pretty damn close.

  • @jykonrock haha it is pretty pricey, but doesn't even come close to a number of amps in terms of price (i.e. engl special edition- just to name one). however, we all know that in terms of value, this amp is worth every penny! it's 9 in 1!!!

  • @squattingmachine oooooh yeah.

  • I heard this amp @ my local guitar center and it sounded nowhere near as good as this

  • @cast390 - my experience with mesas, their tone really shines when they're turned up to performance volumes. i havent had experience with their lower wattage amps (Besides the lonestar... the model that cuts down to 5w, which sounded pretty good). i'm not particularly a fan of Mesas due to their very (over, IMO) touchy EQ and my experience that their amps ALWAYS need to be cranked to get the sound you're thinking of. not to mention their FX loops have been really bad.

    the Mark V sounds great!

  • @MrNixon79 I know what you're sayin. My mark 3 sounds great cranked almost all the way while using an attenuator. I agree with what you say about the FX Loop.At a high volume there seems to be very little effect heard running through the loop.

  • great review

  • Good video. does anybody know if this is an accurate representation of the classic rock, Santana ish, sound the Mark V is capable of? Is it very close to the actual vintage Mark 1, Mark 2c+, Mark 3, and Mark 4 sounds the vintage amps really sound like, or is it a more modern High Fidelity sound the new Mesas have? Many Mesa Lonestar owners think Lonestar clean sounds do not have the Tone of the classic Mark series amps, that they are too high fidelity clean and sterile sounding.

  • good test - thanks !!!

  • not a good demo. forum . grailtone com is the place to see

  • this thing sounds TOTALLY DIFFERENT when you set the output volume fully open.

  • great sounding demo!!

  • A really pleasant demo !!!

  • How much does the head run for

  • $2000

Oh and in the future; Google is your friend.

  • @MistahhB Dude, don't be an ass.

  • @MistahhB if your gonna be an ass, make sure your grammar is correct. a semi colon is improper how you used it. if your gonna try and sound smart you might wanna rephrase that sentence. Oh, in the future, Google is your friend. don't be such a dick dude!

  • @aaron69hagen

1.Telling someone to use google is not being a dick. If you are that sensitive then go fuck yourself.

    2. English is not my main language. I do sometimes use the wrong grammar. You used Your improperly. You're not perfect either.

    3. Why do you give a damn? I told the guy what the amp cost, and reminded him that he can find out for himself a hell lot faster if he uses google. If that's being a dick then maybe I should be put in jail for helping old people across the street.

  • @MistahhB Thanks for the price mistahhb. This is supposed to be a limited edition, the mark v. Will it be hard to find? thanks.

  • @metalfiend124

I don't think it's a limited run at all. It will not be hard to find if you have the money. I'm still in school and very poor so I can't buy one.

  • nice amp.

  • this doesnt do this amp justice for shit....there is so much more gain on tap give me a fucking break

  • was he playing a specific song at 1:12-1:35?

  • why cant i post....dammit...test

  • haha xD

  • Buh-oog- GEE

  • what wattage is this?

  • i think is a 50 w....

  • Enough!

  • It´s switchable...10 watts, 45 watts, 90 watts!

  • Hey man , i just wanted to ask, if u may : if i purchase a Mesa boogie mark V from the USA, to lebanon, knowing that the voltage is different ( 240 V here ), will it work or does it need a transmittor ? thank you so much

  • Nice to see a demo of something other than channel three...

  • Good Demo!!!!!

  • man i want one a these

  • My amp :D

  • heavy metal bullshit? last time i checked the biggest endorsers for this amp is john petrucci and lamb of god.

    however great review.

  • indeed even though this amp is great for everything, its metal tones are orgasmic. well said sir.

  • @stauggion and andy timmons

  • @vheadfacelegs andy timmons plays a lonestar almost exclusively...?

  • @Littlewing1213 Yeah.. And a stiletto.

  • @WoWandMetalFTW yes that is true, lol i was correcting a guy who said andy was a huge mark V user, mesa yes, but lonestars and a stiletto at at times.. damn I wish i had a stiletto lol

  • @Littlewing1213 Haha mesa's are all really good amps.. I have an old 2 channel dual rectifier that I love right now

  • @stauggion Don't forget those players that use them for recording but stick a Marshall stack (maybe even a hollow one) on stage.
