I'm a former Marine and I was in Iraq for over a year and a half. I myself never killed anyone while I was there and I only saw 2 Iraqis killed. They were adult men and only one of them was killed by US forces. One was blown to smithereens by insurgents when he ran over an IED meant for my fellow Marines and I. The other was shot when he rammed the bus he was driving into my HMMWV, barely missing me. My experience in Iraq is typical. Child killers aren't US troops, they're psychotic murderers.

It's not an inevitability but if herd mentality, poor leadership, and peer validation combine with the pain of combat loss, fear, and adrenaline it can create a perfect storm resulting in atrocities. I. Am. Not. Surprised. I've seen multiple videos here on youtube taken by US soldier cell phones of them laughing while shooting civilians. Then there was the pig that threw the puppy off a cliff while laughing. Then we had the gang of rapists who killed a couple families and raped the daughters, then killed them too.
