  • crisp your so right

  • ELO the greatest band ever no question.Been a fan for nearly 30 years.

  • This is the only ballad with that synth shimmer cascade that makes it unique for me, I love when it comes at 2'50!

  • Big fan of this album... The guitar is really prevalant

  • I love this song!!!

  • I'm more of a punk fan, But damn, the man knew how to write some pop hooks!

  • the heck is wrong with 9 idiots

  • This is the first time I've heard this song and I consider myself the biggest ELO fan there is.....having said that now I will say this......I STILL haven't heard a song by ELO that I don't like!! I don't think there is a bad song from this great band!!

  • @eightiesguy62 If you were the biggest ELO fan, you would have heard this song when it came out, like ME! : ) You are correct though. There isn't a bad song from this band yet!

  • @pg1171 I know....I'm ashamed that I had never heard this song until just a few weeks ago but I am one of the biggest ELO fans there are!! HONEST!!! :-)

  • This was a really weird album for them. Took me awhile to like it. No singing by Kelly Groucutt that I could hear. But I finally ended up loving it becasue of the great songs.

  • so many great bands and good music in the 80's

  • I put his genious in a league above the beatles. McCartney? Please--

  • @speedofsound21 I respect your tastes, but to minimize McCartney? Come on, get down to earth. Paul McCartney is the greatest non-classical songwriter of all times. He wrote more #1 than any other artist. Jeff Lynne admired McCartney a lot. Lynne is a genious, extremely talented, but Paul McCartney is THE god of music.

  • I really don't remember hearing anything from ELO after 1980 on the radio, it's a shame because they still did great music into the early 80s like they did in the 70s.

  • @CreativeCritisizm I actually got into ELO as a teen listening to radio in the '80s with songs like Calling America and Rock and Roll is King... so they did have some hits, but you're right, definitely not as many as in the '70s. Then again, you still did hear Jeff Lynne... he was producing and writing hits like Tom Petty's "Free Fallin" so that might explain why there is a lack of hit songs from ELO during and after the '80s.

  • @jeng3000 Yeah, that, and he disbanded ELO in 1986. I know there are some out there who swear that JL "quit" or "left" the group to join the Traveling Wilburys, handing the reins over to Bev Bevan to carry on. That's just a fantasy that some fans have created in their heads. Truth is, BB approached JL in 1988 to see if he might like to restart ELO. After JL told him "no", BB decided to restart the group without him. ...

  • @no1elofaniknow (con't) ... Legally, since JL still at that time owned 50% of the name, BB couldn't call the group "ELO", so to make a long story short, he called it "ELO Part 2".

  • @no1elofaniknow Later, because of a lawsuit filed by Jeff, they were called "The Orchestra".

  • @mrmjb1960 Yeah, I know.

  • @no1elofaniknow BTW,there was talk about a "Legacy Edition" of this CD..A 2-CD set, but, nothing as of now..will there ever be one,I wonder? Would be nice to know!

  • this stuff is freaking me out its so good

  • Великий мелодист моего времени.Честь и хвала.БРАВО!!!

  • I feel this song deep inside my soul!

  • This song reminds me of the game Spyro The Dragon. It must have inspired the soundtrack...

  • Jeff Lynne was an inspiration to me as John,Paul George & Ringo..I agree with you guys that he is definitely one of the most underrated song writer/Musicians ever !

  • makes me feel young again and brings back some great memories..what's happened to music nowadays

  • another great song from Jeff

  • ELO > Awesome

  • Okay, having never listened to ELO before, I have to say i'm damn stunned. It's very very rare for me to like more than one song from a particular band or artist, and this is number ten.

It has such an unnatural, far away feel, but still so melodic and smooth, not jarring. I love it.

  • qué momentos más increíbles con esta canción...

  • The chords follow the same progression as, "You are so beautiful - Joe cocker". Never noticed that until now. Very similar.

  • great guitar

  • I really don't think that Jeff and E.L.O. was ever underated. The only thing that pissed me off back then was that we could never do any of their songs because of there complexities.

  • 406

  • man he looks like fat freddy from the freak brothers! gold!!

  • Or are you talking about Camelia Kath, Keifer Sutherland's ex? If so, I don't know if she's Canadian or not, and I haven't heard or read anything about them tying the knot.

  • But I agree with you, playfd55, these words speak volumes about life. I wouldn't bet money on a reunion between these guys, though.

  • Sandi's from California, not Canada.

  • Brilliance....and he married a Canadian, way to go Jeff.......These words say a ton about life, the music is real......when will we see them reunite?

  • "The chains that hold you -

Those chains will soon be gone.

    Sail upon the ocean,

    Sail back to me."

    Beautiful!

  • Thank you Jeff for taking me on since my childhood... Your music is Love, Space, Time and Mistery... The most genious tunes and arrangement!!!

  • I've LOVED this one since I first heard it. It takes me away. Nothing better than Jeff Lynne's voice and that music together! Thanks SO much!

  • That's Richard Tandy playing slide guitar.

  • ¡Extraordinario tema!

    Extraordinary track!

  • sorry softayl, but that's not George Harrison on guitars. Yes, they worked together later on The Traveling Wiburys and Jeff produced a few of George's albums, but this isnt George, its Jeff and some synthesier magic to create the track. No complaints on the song tho, it is excellent

  • this is a gorgeous song..i hear the complaints about lack of real strings..but at the time of this record, an orchestra wasn't cost effective..hence the reason synthesizers were employed instead of faking an orchestra by tons of overdubbing.

  • redheadplease email me I wanna mairyyou

  • That guitar solo is Fucking AMAZING!!

  • I love playing this on guitar, the chord changes are fantastic!

  • Is there any chance of getting Those Chords? I love playing their lesser known work.

  • @ronnieneo hey could you send me something like a tabulature or something cause i can't find it anywhere :|

  • Listen closely. That would be George Harrison playing along with the boys. Later on, George,Jeff Lyne,Roy Orbison,Tom Petty & Bob Dylan cut a CD & called themselves The Traveling Wilburys.

  • What a great lullaby.

  • Beautifully done! Maybe I will play this at my wedding..Horace seems happy enough.

  • ELO is Better !!! Bach never had light shows !! lol

  • bach is good but i perfer elo maby i dont know

  • ELO: owner of the coolest spaceship ever.

  • ..and all cobbled together with an old jukebox!

  • damn this is a cool song.

  • please dont swear but yes this is a cool song

  • i'm sorry. i didn't mean to offend your delicate sensibilities.

  • Fuck his delicate sensibilities.

    (See what I did there?)

  • lol, that's some funny shit. i would have said the same as you, but i was hoping my snide sarcasm was a better comeback:)

  • Even though I was disappointed when ELO abandoned the orchestral arrangements, I always thought the tunes Jeff wrote during this period were underrated.

  • Yeah, Jeff Lynne is a genius for sure. But he cant reach Bach in any way. J.S. Bach is the greatest genius of mankind. Even compared to da Vinci, Einstein or Vincent van Gogh. Although, Jeff Lynne should consider a "all of ELO" compilation (including half done songs and things like this), cause for sure this is some of the best music of the 20th century.

  • Jeff Lynne, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Tom Scholz of Boston, Tom Keifer of Cinderella, John Bonham.......all musical geniuses!!

  • Bach was great, but better than Mozart? hummm, i dunno about that one. although all the people you mention are, in fact, some of the greatest minds the world has ever known.

  • Jeff Lynne > Beatles, I know it's very drastic but to me Jeff Lynne is the musical god... up there with Bach and Barrios.

  • you said it man

  • HHAha we'll play

    Take on me

    and

    Take me on

together in some occasion, for pure win!

  • Cool

  • tune!

  • R.I.P Kelly

  • space song... In my trip to Area 51 (Groom Lake) Roads. I Parked on the extraterrestrial highway (it was at night, 2 more or less) and there was a beautiful starry sky. Just I put the song "Take Me On" and it was magical.

  • Which one is the most upbeat, one starts out really loud and its sweet, I just dont know the name of it. Can anyone help me out?

  • Huh? I'm guessing you are asking what is the rockingest tune from Secret Messages. That would be Four Little Diamonds first, then Rock and Roll is King, then Secret Messages.

  • if there is ever to be such a thing as a fifth beatle it sure is Jeff lynne,

    the most underated musical genius.

  • @endrizo I was just thinking that!

  • @endrizo George Martin was no doubt the fifth beatle

  • @endrizo John Lennon said of ELO that they were the Beatles if they had continued into the 70's/80's.

  • @RustiSwordz John actually referred to ELO as being "Son Of Beatles". If you search on youtube, you can find the actual interview where he said it.

George Harrison also suggested that The Beatles probably would have evolved into something like ELO.

  • @flash999999999 I was parcially right. :)

  • @endrizo ....and he sang with George Harrison when they were with "The travelling Wilburys"

  • @technocrash09 He also co-wrote and co-produced Harrison's 1987 comeback album Cloud Nine.

  • @endrizo my friend i have an article in guitar magazine its like 15 years ago they metion anthology, also they mentio a lot of peolple of been a beatle or contributo to their worklike geroge martin , pet best , billy preston among others hoever JEFF LYNNE ITS CONSIDER THE LAST BEATLE in my opinion there is no musician that has acomplish his dreams like jeff, been with their inspiration the beatles its epic and i like more elo then the betles( but thats my personal opinion)

  • @endrizo Jeff Lynne is actually considered the fifth Beatle thanks to working with George Harrison with the Traveling Wilbury's

  • @bunniesfootball and Paul McCartney on Flaming Pie.

  • @endrizo there are and have been thousands of musicians better than beatles

  • @endrizo agreed, top of his game, The Move, ELO, Lynne, Bevan Woods etc.........enough said

  • @endrizo You got that right!! Preach it brotha!!!

  • i love ELO

  • Who doesn't? :P

  • I love this song. I've always assumed it was about John Lennon's spirit flying across the universe. The line "somewhere far away" sounds just like Paul McCartney, and the lines "I see it all below, I know which way to go, I see the afterglow" are pure John, doncha think? I know - so what. But it always makes me think of John flying free among the stars. Corny - ok.

  • This song brings memories since the summer 1983.

It was the first summer for me to drink beer legally in an restaurant.

And in a balcony in the summer breeze.

  • this is a gem just like lattitude 88 north.

  • I've never heard this song before. It's Awesome! Thanks for sharing.

  • I adore this song...

    best...

  • I love this song, too. Has a Pink Floyd feel to the music.

  • I like Pink Floyd so-so...

my favorite musician is John Lennon...

and bands are beatles, ELO, slade and Queen!!!!

  • I really adore ELO. ,\Check out "I Need Her Love" on you tube and remasted by thebunyipfarm for a real treat. Simply breath-taking. Why this song never made the Top 40 charts I will never know.

  • yea you're rught - why???

  • I think the slow tempo of the drums adds that feel.

  • This song was so unrated :(((

Never even heard it before :(

  • I agree. I have to admitt that this is one of my favorite ELO tunes, eventhough it stands so seperate from their more populat tunes.

  • anyone else get a prince vibe from this one?

  • Timeless beauty!

  • so damn good.

  • this song is similar in a way to 'rain is falling' from 'Time'

  • Ahh.. a tucked away, laid back, melodic diamond of a tune on an excellent album forgotten by most people..

  • I agree, though I wish he had kept his string section.

  • Best song ever!!! Great Video!

  • One of a hundred great Jeff Lynne compositions!

  • An ELO track that should have been on Miami Vice!!

  • I love that Jukebox Spaceship design, beats the Star Trek designs, lol. But I do love Star Trek, 2,3,4,6,7,8,9 and 10!
