  • I don't think it would have made a stronger point for her to die at all. I think the ending is beautiful, especially the moment between her and her dad. That hit me harder than her death ever would have.

  • Probate court, where a person is determined to need guardianship, is not like regular court and is closed to the public. The "hearing" scene is not at all accurate.

  • this movie is awesome

  • When the judge made his speech about Nancy, I completely lost it. He is so kind.

  • For two years I was in the company of a young woman like Nancy. To have real contact with her was impossible. She seemed to live under a bell jar. It looked like her personality had imploded. She almost died. What made her decide to live I still don't know.

  • this movie was based on a true story. The girl was in the news for her parents taking her to court so she could get help for her eating disorder.

  • I cried so much. What a great movie -3

  • im pretty sure you dont just go from having serious anorexia to being like 'yeh lets eat a bagel' in the space of about 10 minutes..

  • @HokeyKokeyy You can. I mean, it's individual. And maybe she felt ashamed or guilty and she wanted to prove to her family that she wanted to try. Who knows how much she really ate...

  • @HokeyKokeyy Except that's not what happened. What happened was she was making a tremendous amount of effort to move forward. She forced herself to eat that bagel. It wasn't a nonchalant whim at all.

  • Im scared im going to end up like this...very good movie!!

  • I think I want one of those little jewish bagels now

  • Her family was very supportive of her. They went beyond the call of duty.

  • Seemed like a spoilt ungrateful little brat to me, some people would do anything to have a family who cares about them that much. That said, glad she didn't die in the end, at least she sorted her shit out right at the last minute.

  • Now that guy is a great judge!!

  • Is so sad having an ED,pure hell, and family suffers with you a lot, been 12 years already with bulimia/binge eating and it really hurts :(

  • yay !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Tracey Gold (the actress who played Nancy) was suffering from anorexia at the time of this film. It was filmed backwards. Tracey actually has a book called "Room to Grow" and a charity to help families set up interventions and to help girls who cannot afford treatment to get it

  • I love the judge!

  • what have we learned from this movie? eating disorders originate from conceivably nothing, except for maybe depressed stares off into the distance, and the only way an e.d. patient will be able to see the light is to get a court order for them to be hospitalized. how original and down to earth and realistic this movie is. :/

  • @36770sam this is a great movie. one of the best out there about EDs imho. it is pretty realistic (i mean not necessarily the court part) but the emotions behind all the charecters in the movie are very true to form.

  • @36770sam I believe this movie was meant to put the disorder out in the public eye, not be a diagnosis or a cure.

  • Thank you so much for uploading the whole movie,,,It got me cryin =]

  • @cantescape15 yes, many die of EDs, and making a video of someone with THIS specific ED and not letting her die is projecting wrong picture

  • @cantescape15 It's not that im trying to be cool you idiot. It would just make a better point if she died in the end, just saying. Btw you know its not for real? :S

  • This was a good movie. People forget the family suffers so much as well as the person not eating, doing drugs, drinking or just ruining their life :(

I'm glad it turned out the way it did! Did this actress actually have an eating disorder at one time?

  • @KeKe10101000

Tracey Gold had a highly publicized battle with anorexia in 1991 and 1992, about 2 years before this movie was made which explains her small size and her ability to fully understand what the character was going thorough. Its one of those things that only someone who has suffered through it can truly understand

  • Meh, lame movie. I wanted her to die at the end. srsly.

  • @Gorepwn

I liked this movie but I agree.

I think it would have made a stronger point for her to die

    HOWEVER

I guess it raises hope for those who are suffering because they know that you can recover from this illness. x=

  • i love how her family is acting like it's not a big deal she's eating bagel, but inside they're feeling so happy :)

  • All I could focus on was how she needed a coke to wash down that dry bagel!

  • im really happy she got her life back together nd was talking to the group in the end

  • why does the dad always look like he's smirking?

  • One car ride made her decide she changed her mind about something like that? I get that it was on the way to court and she realized it was getting to *the moment*-- but still, it seemed like a pretty convenient time to have an ephiphany.

  • put some jelly on that bagel or something!

  • I love how she looks out at life and seems to realize that she's missing so much...

That's enough to bring you back to reality. When all your time is spent on food and not eating, counting calories, excercise to the point where it's all consuming, you gotta realize it's taking over!! You just have to hit your "bottom"

  • @cheekypants321 agreed! :P

  • Why does he look up for like four minutes, At 4:00 ???

  • @punkinsam1 i think he was trying not to cry

  • @elizabeth91389 Oh okay. :)

  • SO WE ARE NEVER EMPTY, WE ALL NEED TO FEEL OUR LIVES AND THE LIVES OF OUR CHILDREN, WITH THE LOVE OF GOD. GOD BLESS THE CHILDREN AND ALL THE PEOPLE. GOD SAYS IF ANYONE COMES TO HIM SEEKING HIM WITH THEIR WHOLE HEARTS, IN NO WISE WILL GOD TURN YOU AWAY. PRAISE BE TO GOD, JESUS AND THE PRECIOUS HOLY SPIRIT ALWAYS. THEY GIVE LIFE IT'S PURPOSE. LOVE YOU TRINITY ALWAYS!!!!!!

  • @crycry151 Shut up.

  • @crycry151 have you ever read a book called holy anorexia?

  • Every one needs to teach their children God's HOly and awesome word, so that they know that God loves them and Jesus paid a great price for them and the Lord has a purpose for their lives. Teach the children to pray and ask the Holy Spirit, to pray with them. NO one can love us like the LOrd can. People need to know that they are loved not just by people but by an awesome God. God Bless

  • @crycry151 dont force your religion on us. god doesnt want anyone forcing a religion on a person whos not that religion. i swear some people are stupid.

  • @crycry151 I am a Christian, but reading the Bible and praying alone is not going to cure a person with anorexia. They need therapy, a hospital, etc. to get better. If a person is starving themselves, yes, they are truly empty. And there are Christians who, despite their faith, have eating disorders. Diary of an Anorexic Girl, a book by Morgan Menzie, is the true story of a Christian with anorexia. Yes, God will help us through anything, but if they don't want help, they won't get better.

  • @HououMinamino agreed. God will help us through the resources he provides for us...like therapy and the support of other knowledgeable people.

  • @crycry151 Why do you spam this page with your religion? Seriously?

That has nothing to do with the movie, or eating disorders in general. I'm reporting it as spam.

You should feel ashamed of trying to push your religion on a video about a girl suffering from a serious mental disorder. You give your god a bad image.

  • i cried.. aha

  • i cryed . aha

  • @IMayBeSyd it was the only thing she could control in her life, and soon enough it started to control her.

  • Thanks for the upload!

  • Aww, I'm so proud of Nancy.

  • good movie. thanks for the upload.

  • Shut the fuck up about the bagel. The important thing is that she recovered. I hate negative people like you. Go to hell!

  • This part of the film always makes me cry :*(

    xxx

  • How.. do they get actresses to look all skinny and then make them look like they gained weight?

  • @MyEyesAreOpen6

when this was filmed, the actress for nancy was recovering from anorexia. so they filmed the scenes where she was to be the most skinny, then as she recovered, the ones where she was a normal weight. also, they can use make up to make her look ill and her face slender.

  • Thank god she came to her senses

  • Good acting - a pretty fair movie, but a totally unrealistic ending.

  • Couldn't agree more. Therapist is HOT!!

  • i like the judge.

  • Nancy's therapist is soo fucking hot

  • good soundtrack

  • If your never going to be completely cured, why not remain skinny!

  • Ugh.. homegirl would not be eating a bagel right after that... great movie besides this, but I would have liked to see her go through recovery instead of just the final outcome.

  • awww.... the judge's speech was so sweet...

  • ur not going to toast it? butter? jelly? just a plain bagel?

  • @mrsfhuckingawesome Small steps, fhuckingawesome. Small steps.

  • @mrsfhuckingawesome Adding anything to the bagel would've made it harder to eat. Eating carbs like bread is hard enough for an eating disordered person. She was taking a massive step just eating the plain bagel.

  • @mrsfhuckingawesome All those things are nasty on bagels, anyway. I've never understood people just putting plain butter on their bagels. And jelly! It's just sugary gelatinous goo, and it only SAYS it's fruit flavor.

  • news press why?

  • This is a beautiful movie. Something you can't truely appreciate or fully understand unless you've been through an eating disorder like this.

  • If recovering from an ED was as simple as this film makes it out to be, no one would be dying from it.

What Nancy/Tracey says at the end is true, but its what you say after years and years of slowly and painfully working your way out of the grips of this disease, not after eating a bagel and skipping over any kind of recovery process.

  • @sraphael maybe when she recovered that was months/years later, since its a movie and can't show everything. and the bagel thing was just a start but yeah it was pretty ridiculous

  • i like bagles

  • what the shit at her whole family watching her eat the bagel at the end? umm....

  • she looks so old at the end of the movie!

  • worst ending ever.

  • what a touching story

  • yeah, the bagel scene was stupid, but I still think the ice cream at the end of "the best little girl in the world" beats it :)

  • @TarAncalyme That ice cream scene made me laugh so much. I think it was the first time that I have ever laughed at the end of an ed movie.

  • hahaha. the bagel thing. so ridiculous.

  • of all the things to finally eat, she would pick a nasty dry bagel that's been sitting there since the first scene of the movie.

    i kid, i kid.

    butforealz.

  • @rachellovessyouu Shes gonna puke it anyway...

  • gee they waited long enough to get that court order geez...

  • Ugh, the ending....It wouldn't be like she'd just offer to eat a bagel. But I guess if it's a true story....But maybe because it's a movie they made it a bit more, eh, abrupt.

  • @ingeloveswobbly That's the thing. It's just a movie, it can't portray everything. I don't think they were implying that the bagel part was suddenly the end her problems.

  • I loved this movie and the bit where she realises what her father's going through just to make sure she gets better, and she raises the flight wings brings tears to my eyes. I do however think it's unrealistic that as soon as she gets back she's willing to eat a bagel. I know it's based on a true story but I don't think she would do that. Or at least if she did she'd be a hell of a lot more upset about it. Good film though, wish I could get it on DVD here in England.

  • You all can't complain about the ending, that's what really happened, it's based on a true story... damn.

  • That was such a shitty ending!!!!!!!!!! You don't even find out why Nancy starting starving herself! That's gonna bother me forever! How could they not tell you that?! It was like once her father had medical reliance over her she was cured-WTF?!?!?!?!?!

  • @Funtabulosity329 if you really watched the whole movie you would notice when she first entered therapy that the doctor explained her parents she was stressing out about moving from her house to another city for college, getting apart from her family and friends, etc...

Don't complain about the movie if you obviously didn't even pay attention!

  • @juniorcasemiro actually I did watch the whole movie, and I did pay attention, since I'm analyzing anorexia for a health project of mine. The doctor was just ballparking ideas for why she might be starving herself. What I was talking about was how they never touched on why Nancy herself specifically suffered, as all cases are different, all have different root causes, and all have different reasons for the patient becoming anorexic.

  • @Funtabulosity329 she told that she didn't know what was happening. The truth is they never know the main reason, they just do it. I've had problems with anorexia back then, there was no particular reason at first, I just wanted to lose weight but then it became a part of me, if I got stressed I just wouldn't eat because I didn't feel like eating. And with work, college, all together, I was moving on a fast pace, I just didn't care about food.

Thank God I realized I had a problem!

  • omg!cant belief i cried at the bit where they came back frm court n the bruva s where all lukin worried....it was so touchin....i hope i dont evr get lik that....its very painful...

  • wat a crappy ending !

  • That movie was great. What a beautiful ending.

  • no fuckin way would she eat that bagel

  • "i think I'd like a bagel" and she can just magically eat it after not being able to put more than scraps of lettuce in her mouth? Besides, anybody in that severe of a condition needs immediate medical intervention.... eating a bagel isn't going to change that! lol :p

  • Yeah right! You get a black judge in a court room full of white people these days and all HELL will break lose. The last thing you'll hear is "Good Luck."

  • i loved this movie but i do think the ending should have been different.

  • This guy paused for like three good minutes, looking up at the sky, and said yes.

  • um okay. . . the movie started with her jogging and ended with her jogging

  • @TheSkelwor Then why do sufferers of anorexia starve themselves, literally, to death? call me crazy, but dying does not seem very self-indulgent to me. neither does severe restricting, fasting or over exorcising. I do agree with you that the disease is self-motivated and the patient is the one ultimately controlling their actions, but the point of the illness is the fact that those suffering don't WANT to stop themselves.

  • i dont get it, why did she show him the badge in the court?

  • @luvinfitz1 the dad told her it was for good luck, right? so it was her telling the dad that everything will be okay. and eventually she agreed to therapy anyway.

  • I cried when she showed him the badge.

  • @TheSkelwor ..you put forth a facile argument but your reasoning is flawed. If you are aware and are rational you can control your actions. I have many impulses, primitive instincts and compulsions but I am required to control them. The disease made me do it, is not an acceptable excuse. You can will yourself to overcome many undesirable conditions and social requirements, in order to function in society. ED is a very unsympathetic condition...hope you don't have it

  • @jethro035181 Some people would give everything they have to "get over" their eating disorder, yet still live with it until the day they die. I understand your point - an ED is not an "excuse" as you call it. But most people don't purposely decide to have an ED. If it was a willing choice then so many people wouldn't die from it.

  • @jethro035181 just because you have had a bad personal experience, it does not justify intolerance towards the mentally ill.

  • Thanks for torturing that poor girl by pausing on the altar for two minutes, as if to pretend you're changing your mind.

  • Good movie... :)

  • dude , wat kind of court case is taken in the big court house for something so small as a fucken case about being 18 and old enough to ,,,, forget it... lemmy get back to my anorexic movie.

  • How did they get the newspaper and press on them?

  • of course there had to be a old wise black judge

  • around 5:10 maybe 5:12 I start to cry. Each time I watch this movie, I cry.

  • Good movie. Y'know, alot of people don't understand the frustrations that loved ones feel for their daughter/friend/relative, they think they're being mean and refuse to understand and just generally ignorant. They shout and scream because they feel helpless! Not because they want to torture them - they're not willfully ignorant, they just can't comprehend what causes it and they blame themselves. It's heartbreaking watching someone you love slowly kill themselves. Why wouldn't anyone be angry?

  • They showed her eating a bagel because its fattening first off.

Secondly, this actress made this movie because she was anorexic herself and im not sure if this movie was based of her life but she probably could relate.

Thirdly for all the people saying shes not a known actress, well thats false, she was on a hit tv series called growing pains and she was the star. She has also been in many other things.

  • @carniekatie wow. You are an idiot.

  • it must have been torture for the actress to eat that bagel.

  • Why does the dad take such a long time to answer? Is it because he's upset?

  • @HououMinamino It's a hard thing to cope with, especially having to go to such lengths to help her; & it takes a lot of courage to stand up against your daughter's wishes.

  • @HououMinamino Yeah. I definitely think it's because he was so emotional. He had some contradicting feelings. He knew he had to prove that he needed to be her guardian but he also felt that he was labeling his daughter incompetint which I don't believe he wanted to do.

  • the girl who plays nancy is a pretty damn good actress.

  • I can't understand, why films with great message has so unknown actors and actresses....

  • sadly there are other mental illnesses in the world...eating disorders are so cruel....

  • why the press was there

  • talk about an unrealistic ending...

  • worst ending ever, so a way to make a person admit that they are anorexic is to take their dad to a trial, make some questions, the dad answers ''yep'' to all of them and BAM! heartbreaking moment!!

  • i don't see the big deal about a bagel. there was also a movie about this where the girl ate ice cream at the end. the best little girl in the world is what ithink it was...so yeahhhhhhh.

  • @iheartsjonas They've never eaten that many calories in probably a year so that's a big accomplishment for them.

  • @PopGirl890 no no no, i mean the people freaking out about it. I'm jsut saying they're acting like that's impossible for her to have eaten and it's not. A bagel isn't as big of a ddeal as th eice cream. I'm probably being reallyu confusing. i'm sorry :(

  • @iheartsjonas No it's okay. I'm just saying that it's really good for her to have eaten that and depending on the ice cream, then it's the same amount of calories and more than they've usually eaten which is actually a big accompliment and surprise to her family.

  • @iheartsjonas the actresss who played nancy was anorexic. Eating that bagel would have been a huge deal for her.

  • @UnpHotoGENiC i know. that's what i was saying. and i'm also saying that people on here are makiung way too big a deal outof it. oh my goodness......

  • So her wanting to eat that bagel represents that she wants to be happy and better. It wasn't a crappy ending, it was a really good ending and a wonderful movie. Im 15 i weigh 52 KG Im not tall or short, and i LOVE my body, my fat and my life. People should realize that starving themselves just to look pretty or to be thin wont make them happy, it will destroy them.

  • @Rizoto88 Oh, for heaven's sake - It's not about being pretty!

  • She also saw all those happy people with their families enjoying the moment, and she was suffering she wanted that as well. She must have thought about it a lost and realized in the court-room that what she's doing is just wrong.

  • The ending was good.. its not about it being weird that all of a sudden she wants a bagel. I think the dad saved her, he gave her that pin thing and that must have really meant something to her. Also, her dreams showed her that being happy and enjoying life is much better than suffering and being unhappy in the court-room her dad showed how sad he was and that was heartbreaking.

  • my parents took me to court just like this part of the movie. i will never agree with my parents for doing this to me.

  • I didn't know that sectioning doesn't exist in the USA. But then I guess they can't force people to have treatment that they can't pay for. That's why the NHS wins =] For anyone who doesn't know, sectioning is forcing someone to go to hospital because they suffer from a dangerous mental disorder severe enough to warrant hospital treatment, and serious enough to mean that they can't make sensible judgements for themselves. They would have sectioned her back when she left hospital the first time.

  • In england if you're bad enough you can get sectioned. If a doctor or parent thinks you cant look afterr yourself because of mental health or something. Its compulsery. Should have that.

  • Fuc this movie made me cry so much. Think I cried from Part 4 or 5 or so during now! This Family is so exactly mine and this girl so exactly me. Everything has to be perfect and if it's not, smile it away and pretend, everything's perfect.

4 Years of suffering and no ending in sight... Love the movie! The mom and Nancy are great actresses.

  • LOL. yeah acting was bad, ending was bad. hence why it's only shown on the tele. BOO, YOU WHORE of a movie.

  • yes i agree, they ended this movie way too fast..a lot of these movies do. they focus on the struggles but not enough of the success..over all good movie.

  • Decent movie. Terrible ending.

  • @MizDeprivation Not necessarly I mean the fact is she was so hungry she probably did that to make her feel better for the time being to give her some energy & then go into therapy.

  • oh yeah just all watch her eat the bagel, all 4 of them

  • That was a great movie!

  • im crying.

  • this is a good movie, but it made me hungry

  • It may not have been entirely realistic, but it sure helps one think about the patterns that go on in our families. Eating disorders aren't about food... they're about feeling out of control. That's what I'm seeing. That part was very evident.

  • wonderful movie!

  • the dad was annoying me during the trial. his face looks so weird.....

  • omg i am in love with her dad and for the life of my i can't think of the mans name! but he's like a (old) greek god he's so handsome i could just eat cream off him lol

The actress who plays Nancy is such a good actress and she's also so bra ve to have recovered from Ana... not everyone does... but doens't this film move a bit fast and have kind of a magical ending lol

  • what, so she just came home and magically started to get better straight away, starting with "i think ill have a bagel"?

all good up until that bit.

  • Nancy is so pretty!

  • SHE IS NOT EVEN THAT THIN!!!

  • @carniekatie are u blind? SHE'S EXTREMELY THINNN! That is not healthy!!

  • @carniekatie oh my god yes she is!!!!!!!!!!!!! You have got to be BLIND! What do you think a thin wieght is anyway? 60 freaking pounds??????????? god, that girl is a STICK!

  • Tracy is still tooooo thin....

  • Ok so she ate a bagel, but so what? Recovery is about starting to eat the foods you wouldnt normally ... I ate veg salad and fruit and something as exact in calories as a bagel would seem logical, especially to my anorexic mind, and I think its pretty realistic, it wouldnt be though had she eaten something like a cheesecake.

  • I really wonder why they call it a disease, its more like a disorder.

  • Lame ending - otherwise a pretty good film.
