  • how did you get that bridge on there i wanted to do a fan on the top like yours withouth it being a shitty USB fan

  • @EndlessElusion well i got an old fan connector off and old motherboard, and some desoldering braiding, and removed the filled in holes, then i stuck the fan connector though the board and resoldered it back, of course not all motherboard revisions have the AUX power connector header on it. but any way you need a guide on the headers on the motherboard to determine + and - leads

  • why are you using the shielding ground as ground for the black wire?

your not supose to do that

what if that ground is for protection ?

you can better pick a ground from the power header.

  • Question..... why the fuck did you stick a fan onto the cpu heatsink.... thats not the problem that the xbox 360 has.... its the gpu that suffers from overheating because of the dvd drive sitting on top of it, how is this of any use....

  • @eraldorh because it helps to draw the hot air out of the case near the GPU. and it adds more push the outbound air flow thru the rear vents

  • You've been working on computers for over 15 years? You barely sound 15.

  • @bman101298 my brother did the video for me, i was busy at the time.

  • you have the fan directly on the heatsink theres no air flow and where is the air coming out it looks like you blowing it in do research before you do this

  • @Anddyproductions blowing is better than sucking air, there is a fan on top of the xbox blow air into the case, and there two fans on the side of it blowing air into the case. plus the fans on the back are sucking the hot air out of the case that the fan on the heat sink is blowing. learn how to computer ventilation works first then say something. ive been working on computer for over 15 years, and the xbox 360 design was the worst ive ever seen.

  • lol even after all that, it still overheated and died in the end.

  • @KiillWiithMe yeah it sure did, these things are trash compared to the new xbox design

  • @probrono i just had my hacked elite over heat the other night, and red ring on me after 4 years, i fixed it and it worked for like an hour after the fix. then it kept crashing so i just threw it away, luckily i had a spare elite so i flashed that 1 too yesterday to play my backups (88 so far), and today i flashed my nehpews :P

  • @IGameSomeTimez its not, this particular xbox finally died 2 years ago, even after re-applying arctic silver thermal compound on both CPU and GPU. ive quit trying to work on this xbox, its not worth it anymore. i even broke my heat gun trying to fix it.

  • @denverbronco27, @ZaCkOX900

Look at most modern computers, they use a wind tunnel effect, by mounting a fan on the side of a heatsink and putting a shroud around it. blowing is more effective than sucking, that is where microsoft went wrong, but they fixed that issue on the new slim xbox 360 models. This should end all discussions on this subject

  • Fanbox 360!!

  • i wouldnt pull the power out of the stock fans on that 35mm fan... you will render those fans useless- pull it from the dvd tray or soldering spots on the motherboard just saying cuz it happend to me ...but nice fan mods though

  • You had two fans in your video, could you tell me the size of both the big fan and the small fan?

  • @HaloKing385 the small one i think was a 35mm, and larger on the case was a 80mm. im not really sure about the small one though

  • @probrono I don't believe that is a 35mm fan. The height with a ruler is 50mm and your fan is at the height of the heatsink. I checked earlier myself. Also couldn't you run the ground into the other fan ground wire? And not into the metal. Last you wouldn't need the fan attached to the heatsink if the top fan is shooting air into it. 2 fans will do almost no difference in that setup. You need directional movement of air. One fan is being blocked of that. So the small one wasn't needed.

  • HOW DO YOU ADD THE BRIDGE ?

  • @qazerking i think he soldered it on. It might be easy if you just go to radioshack and buy a connecter with 3 pins and just solder it on. But, if there arent any holes to put the pins in he either has a specific motherboard or he made the connector holes.

  • This is cool and all but you might wanna focus your cooling efforts on the GPU under the CD drive because cooling is very poor, which is what causes most problems.

  • @iggy151 Definitely right, GPU is the underlying problem, cpu not as much. Heatsink is definitely too small.

  • @ZaCkOX900 Usually sealing the gap between the fan shroud and GPU heatsink with aluminum tape, then doing the 12 volt mod to the stock cooling fans is enough to bring it down 50 degrees or so.Just remember the 12 volt mod is best done by running positive and negative wires to the solders on the power cord jack. The middle row of solders is 12v+ and the bottom ones are ground.

  • @iggy151 I still think an additional fan is necessary in front of the heatsinks. Suckage is not as great as blowage. Funny choice of words, but yea directional air seems to be a must. I'm not sure if the heatsinks get hotter because of damage, but from what I have seen it seems to be true. I was forced to change the heatsink, you can watch my videos if you don't believe me why. It just took 2 years before something happened.

  • @ZaCkOX900 SUCKAGE IS AS GOOD AS BLOWAGE MAN

  • @denverbronco27 Why would you think that? Put a fan on your face blowing and then try sucking, blowing is obivously colder.

  • @ZaCkOX900 And it would be dumb to have several fans sucking opposite directions. That would reduce air flow. You should have fans going 1 way. The best way is blowing into the heatsink and blowing out the back. You'll need the fan guard, and you should put a fan on the side to bring air into the front fan. That fan infront of the heatsink has a very hard time getting air when the case is closed.

  • Comment removed

  • @ZaCkOX900 By the way ur still wrong putting it against your face has no bearing considering the heat around your face is not over 100 degrees. Turning the fan around is a sure way to build up heat and give yourself the red rings, even if you have an additional fan facing out.

  • @denverbronco27 you just made yourself sound so stupid. Dude, do you even understand how airflow works?

  • @ZaCkOX900 Yes I have repaired many consoles and what you are saying, is honestly pretty stupid.

  • @denverbronco27 And obivously you still don't understand airflow, I made a video for stupid people like you. I will stop arguing with a dummy.

  • @ZaCkOX900 Lol I watched ur dumbass video when did I say ANYTHING about two fans working against eachother... please read before you make comments and start talking smack about other people.

  • @denverbronco27 you said suckage is as good as blowage. You still sticking to your belief. When in act it is not and you still deny it. 1+1 = 2 not 3 buddy.

  • @ZaCkOX900 My last comment.

    1. Suckage is as good as blowage when there is a fan shroud directing the airflow. If thats not true call microsoft and tell them to turn there fans around and bake the xbox.

    2. Not sure what your mathmatical equation is supposed to mean there...

    3. The setup in this video is pointless considering 90% of the time its the gpu that overheats not the cpu.

    4. You are PURELY ignorant man.

  • @denverbronco27 Again your trying to turn it around. And Microsoft is a dummy pin. If you believe them and their quality control, well your really being stupid. Blowing into the heatsink would of been better than sucking out air, but Microsoft could care less about you and decided to make their expenses less and use long range suckage. You call me ignorant? Your so much more ignorant than me. CPU heatsinks have fans built on, not a long range suckage dude. Get it straight.

  • @denverbronco27 The video explained sucking vs blowing. Are you still stupid? You said blowage is as good as suckage. And you still deny I'm right when obivously the whole point is, you don't use common sense and you claim to fix xbox 360s. That is scary bub. You probably are overheating the heatsinks and don't even know it.

  • this isnt a good idea if u ask me, the CPU will run cooler thats good. but since the heat sensor is under the CPU that detects that the xbox is not so hot as usual and will tell the Fans to run slower, and at that part the GPU will overheat cuz it dont have a extra fan to cool itself isnt it?

  • if you have so many fanes then why do you have red ring

  • @butface4589

    no video cable plugged in

  • what size is the fan

  • @MonsterCentral

    i believe that is a 80mm fan

  • get the temp readings i managed to get 23oC on my mods running a game for 3hrs

  • @scrodamoon

Damn, thats a pretty good temp for an Xbox 360, is it water cooled?

  • @probrono nope i was pondering water cooling but then i got theses temps with just fans. so not gonna try the water cooling just yet. but that will be a future project.

  • @scrodamoon

thats amazing to get 23oC on just the fans

  • @probrono ya ive done lots of 360s in the hundreds and that one floored me of how cool it was

  • @scrodamoon nioce!.. i have a 80mm fan mod and i have never seen my xbox360 climb over 23 ish maybe even less but i would like to see your mod more. i usually run my xbox alll day non stop

  • thanks men u help me out a hole lot respect

  • DONT FUCKING GROUND YELLOW TO DISK DRIVE. have fun frying your drive.

  • ffs clean up your dirty nails, thats disgusting eeeww...

  • Theres no point to do this simply just open your xbox but leave the bottom of the xbox on and BAM It's getting constant air and can't overheat!Silly Gooses!

  • that wont work for long m8 it will fuck up some day cause u cant connect a new fan to the main power fan u will short it out l8r

  • lol it has the red ring of death during the vid

  • @eggsandwich1

no that was 4 lights, which means no A/V cable plugged in

  • would it work if I bought a cheap freezer, and put my 360 in it?

  • @HighHiqh

no because the xbox would get moisture into it, and the contacts would start to oxidize and it would fail alot faster.

  • @HighHiqh it would work ass long as its coller than 36 faren hight

  • hey i got a question i got a brand new xbox w60 elite 1 month ago and i was wondering does this model come with any extra fans? and does it have a heat sink?

  • @D0z31

it only come with two fans, and it should have the extra heat sink on it.

  • @probrono thank you very much =)

  • @D0z31 yes, the elite has taller sinks that are better material and the fan shroud that you can see is white in this video overlaps the gpu's sink so that heat is more directly exited. if you feel comfortable modding or taking it apart you should look into the whisper fans from talismoon. i just installed mine yesterday, green, and it's twice as good and sound much more appealing than the stock fans. and it glows 1 of 3 colors of your choice on purchase. $15, very worth it

  • @D0z31 are you stupid all consoles have heatsinks you idiot! I'm soo osick on noobs

  • so this is what you have to do to keep your shitbox running eh

  • @Hyphy101dre

pretty much, but this wasnt even enough to keep it going. the piece of s*** died anyways again.

  • lol nice fan on top :)

  • what about the gpu....that one needs atleast one fan

  • It looks good but you shouldn't add anything to the fan plug because it gets week and it will burn out you should use the DVD drive power

  • @XGamerAlex exactly what i did now have two extra 70mm fans

  • What size is those fans Thanks :D

  • @c1rca121

the front one is a 45mm and the stock fans are 80mm

  • Im going to buy a 2nd gen cpu heatsink to match the current cpu heatsink and put it on the gpu, but then I need to mod the shape of the shroud, dows anyone know how i could do this, i was thinking of cutting so of the shroud and melting it on to form the new shape but im not sure if melting plastic is a good idea

  • Come see my video Fan shroud modification the best mod you can do! This is my personal idea and works like a charm! for keeping equal air flow going throe the GPU and CPU.

  • damn that suckes man

  • the fan in front of the heat sink is kinda stupid because thats were you primary fans are pulling in air idk if it sucking or blowing air into the hink sink please tell me

  • it was ment to blow air into the heatsink, but i accidentally wired it backwards and it was sucking air out.

  • you might wanna fix that because it could mess with air flow

  • @bamfan2044

its too late for that, this console didnt last long. DVD controller chipset failed

  • @probrono check out my video for my xbox

  • You can buy 20 inch sata and power cables so you can mount the DVD Drive on top of the case. That way you can put a fan on the GPU. Go to Google and type in Airflow Cables.

  • To messy

  • voste of money

  • If i place the DVD drive aside and add a 80 mm exhaust fan over the GPU heatsync and add another two 80 mm fans on the CPU heatsync and the additional heatsink (only on later XBOX 360's) respectively...then will i TOTALLY get RID of RROD's????

  • possibly, because most RRODs are caused by the GPU. it gets so hot that it warps the board beneath it, causing cold soldier joints.

  • Solder* :p

  • You could use a 1' diameter fiber optic cable and you wouldn't lose any power. It doesn't matter how much wire you use it doesn't deaden through wire, it will deaden over distance though. And 24 is the suggested guage for a 12v power source.

  • It can be conidered a mod. Anyone that's gutsy enought to get in and do inything to their box deserves some respect. I personaly think fans on the top look kind of gung ho lol. I have quite a few modded boxes...it's a hobby...and I put an 80mm fan on top of each one.

  • no point putting the fan in after the red lights

  • the red lighrts are cuz he does NOT have the av cable plugged in.

  • umm no.... i had my av cable unpluged and it never did that.... pulse i have a HDMI cable now.

  • Mine does that when I unplug the video while it's running..

  • does what? does the 3 red lights turn on when you plug it half way?

  • Actually, if you unplug it half way, there could still be a full connection present. This means it would not give me the Red Rings. Also, I do not get 3 red rings when I unplug my Video Cable, I get 4.

  • you are blind then, because you get 3. iv tried it on 3 other xboxes (friends xboxes) and i have 3 rings EVERYTIME

  • so why don't you watch my video and learn something

  • Because I know everything that your videos show...besides Spore...

  • your the smartest person iv talked to about this kinda stuff :P

P.S: Spore is awesome you should try it!

  • no 3 red lights is usually overheating, or gpu errors.

  • all right, if you think your so smart. watch my video. if you don't watch it, then how would you prove me wrong?

  • its when you have the power NOT plugged in all the way...

  • Yeah, that's right.

  • i have a video on how to fix it too....

although its simple to fix... it for the idiots that dont know how...

    you should see it.

  • Sorry, but I am already very aware on how to fix it.. too bad some people actually have to post videos on how to avoid it...

  • i know how you mean... but look at my video anyways?

  • the fan in the xbox is not bad but your xbox must get hot to put one on top i dont think you even need to do that much

  • your fan is drawing air away from the heat sink back into the xbox then the top fan is sucking it out. I think the biggest probelm in the 360 is the heatsink over the GPU because there is nowhere for the hot air to go, the dvd drive helps to cook it.

  • NOT A MOD JUS A TUNE UP LOL J/p JUST ABOUT THE SAME

  • this fans fucks the xbox

  • i bought the nyo inter cooler and a usb fan, conected it all up, works mint =)

  • nyo fans will cause long term problems like burning out your power cables etc, Apparently never had one myself.

  • ive bought 2 fans with leds etc and at the moment there working fine and keep the 360 cool, but hope that dont happen long term

  • Still better then having your xbox fry after 2 hours of use.

  • That's not true, I bought one for mine two years ago and it gets about daily use and I haven't had any problems except for dust build-up.

  • this fans mod suck buy a nyko intercooler better this fans required energy from the xbox that heat it more, nyko intercooler has his own energy adapter

  • @chicouniversal

those stupid intercoolers were causing more problems than solving. and no the the nyko intercoolers DONT have there own power adapter, it stills uses the xbox 360's connector to power it up, which means ITS STILL DRAWING POWER from the xbox 360's powerbrick. plz dont comment if you dont know anything about RROD or xbox 360. i personally have 4 xbox 360s, and guess what, the one with the nyko intercooler failed first.

  • okay, but i think is that not all xbox 360s got that problem

  • @chicouniversal

most of them do, all the xbox 360s made before October 2008, dont have that extra heatsink behind the CPU. only the ones made after and the ones that have been repaired by Microsoft, only have that extra heatsink.

  • I have three 360s, with a Nyko Intercooler on one of them, and I have had it for two years with no problems besides dust build up...

  • The intercooler you re talking about also uses the power from the adapter thus uring the same power that the xbox is using.

And its not the Processor its the GPU thats gives the "Red Ring Of Death".

  • It's both...when the Arctic Silver gets fried then the chips get fried. The RROD is a failsafe to stop the box before the chips fry. All you have to do is remove the heatsinks and replace the thermal compound. The GPU and the CPU both cause the RROD. It's not a "problem", it's a precaution. A word to the wise. Don't do the "towel trick", you'll just fry the chips.

  • @twinkerdoodle

what about just doint the 5v to 12v fan trick which is just cutting the red and brown + wires on the plug and searching on the board for a 12+ dc source which is in the left front that will do the same as this . right!?????

  • Fail, you have that inside sucking air from the CPU heatsink. The stock Xbox 360 back fans are trying to do the same thing. You should flip the fan around, so it is blowing air through the heatsink and into the fan shroud.

  • Thank you for telling me my fan was backwards, i didnt realize that i had put it in backwards. till you said something. ive should of checked everything before i put it back together.

  • Or you could not mess with the power input and take the less risky option that you can actually replace. Sure you could, but it makes no sense when there's a simpler and safer way to do it.

  • Ok I pulled a stupid...I thought we were on a different subject. You could do that, but obviously the fans weren't made to do that if they didn't give it a 12v input to begin with. If you do do this I suggest using at least 24 guage wire instead of the 12 they supply.

  • Really shouldn't matter what gauge you use. 12 gauge can take more amps at 12 volts, then 24 can though.

  • Wow you're right lol...that is sort of dumb...

  • what kind of fan would i need to do this? and where can i get it?

  • 80mm computer fan, and you can get one from an old computer, or you can go and buy a fan from any computer store.

  • also the newer xbox 360 has a extra GPU heatsink so you can attach a 40mm on top and it will blow through the cpu heatsink as well.

  • what size is the fan 50mm or 60mm you have on heatsink.

  • @who8allthepies

the fan that is on the heatsink i believe is a 40mm fan that i pull from AMD Duron heatsink.

  • gay

  • u thought the gpu had the overheating problem lol

  • So probrono, did it stand the test of time, is it still working?

  • nah, just like my other one, it died the same way, error code 0020. i swear my ps3 (60GB) lasted longer than these things have. and it just needs a new blu-ray laser. because i played more than any of my 360's.

  • Did you do anything to the GPU heatsink? That one seems to need the most help.

  • nah, i couldnt do anything to the GPU heatsink, because of that DVD drive in the way. the only thing i did to it was add arctic silver 5 compound to the bottom of it. and change to voltage of the rear fans to always be 12 volt. so it would suck more air from my top mounted fan.

  • hey bro can u mod my xbox360 like can u put the fans and stuff like u did to your i wood love to have a xbox like that but not with 4 red rings XD

  • it blows pretty good

  • move the dvd drive outside the case.... but a heatsink like the bigger one thats covering the cpu i think? where the gpu one is and mod up a new fan shroud... trust me it works.

  • I had the thought of taking the whole xbox out of the case and putting it in a cerial box and playing it like that LMAO.

  • i thought of putting it in normal ATX computer frame.

  • that sounds cool, can't a good computer run like bootleg xbox 360 version and run the game or something? I'd find that pretty cool.

  • there is nothing i know of that can do that

  • when i have 2 xbox 360s i will do that to mine cause i have some extra pc cases

  • mine dosent have 4 red rings when i dont put in av cable the screen just stays black

  • lian xi xb360 pc style 360 case, looks good, feels cheap and nasty and the fan is cheap and only extracts heat, doesnt draw air through the heatsinks to actually "cool" it though, shame.

  • i was gunna do the heatsink fan mod untill i realised the center of the fan will block airflow to the center of the heatsink where most of the heat is conducted to, oh and keep the rf sheild in it covers the top of your cpu and creates a tunel effect through it, oh and the bottom of the case acts like an oven keeping heat it, peace out

(aug 06 xenon, ixtreme1.4 firmware, card tunnel divider, hard drive, rear mesh cutout, still working fine, no aftermarket parts)

  • what size are the fans you used

  • standard 80mm computer fans

  • Good job but I would advise you to not stop the hot console, once the game leave it on the menu on the console screen darkened 20 minutes.

  • Too bad microsoft put the GPU underneath the DVD Drive.

  • yeah its too bad, i could've done better with the GPU if that DVD drive wasn't in the way

  • i had the RROD problem until i got a reflow service done. Search xbox 360 reflow on ebay and you will find it. After that it'll be the last xbox you'll need to buy guaranteed.

  • that cool but y not get a intercooler

  • it causes rrod

  • because they don't always work, because the fan just pulls air from the heat sinks but only from one side.

  • the intercooler does more harm than good trust me

  • yes i boaght an intercooler i got rrod a week later

  • you should've put the fan from the outside to the inside. shit would be awesome.

  • i don't think i could fit

  • yoo how did u add the fan onto the case ???

  • just fixed my 360's rrod and now adding fans.got Whisper max in back and have some 40mm fans kicking around so will put one in like on your vid'.you cant be to careful i guess.not keen on top fan myself but its couple years old now and tec' moves on quick in that time so dont think you'd need to do that now.

  • so since you have put that fan on, have you had any problems with your 360? Has it kept it cooler?

  • well it did, but the stupid thing RROD anyways after 2 months, i guess you cant really keep those things from killing themselves.

  • damn that sucks, yeah im on my 3rd 360 in less than a year 1/2. Haven't modded one yet but i will as soon as i get my supplies in. I will put a video on my youtubeof it also.Sso I'm going to subscribe so when i put mine up you can take a look and tell me what you think for my first 360 mod!

  • Make sure it's out in the open(not in a cupboard, recess) and not on an insulating surface(i.e carpet, foam, etc)

  • Do you have both the new fans drawing power from your xbox?

  • yes

  • Not entirely positive on this, but you might have been pulling too much power from the motherboard which what might have caused the RROD. I'm actually going through a mod right now and putting 3 new fans in, but going to have there own power supply.

  • The Fans weren't the cause of this one RROD, its given me error code 0021 which i believe is a DVD Drive Controller Chipset Problem or either the North Bridge Chipset Problem. one of the those two chipsets have a cold soldier joint.

  • Yea, there's no telling with the xbox...once you fix one problem area, it just creates another, haha.

  • dunno if your done yet. but you can always solder a molex or 12v, 5v or whatever to the bottom of the mobo underneath where the plug goes to power all the fans watch my vid if you need help

  • that fan on the outside of the case is hot dude, that shit is sexy

  • what size fan is that small one?

  • NICE VIDEO love the mod , if i had the cash i would let you do that 2 mine , but it seems like you got hte red ring of death when you turned it on lol!

  • Nah, the red lights were for the video cable not being plugged in :)
