Go to the bumper cam of kurt and if you looke to the right of the dirt you can see sadler hit, he hit and got airborne and spun in the air, nut either way ESPN has horrible angles, but if you want to see the crash pay attention on kurts onboard angle.
@moparsrock no, that was kurt hitting the inside wall with the drivers side. in order to hear elliots impact kurt would need to be extremely close to elliot and have nearly absolutely zero ambient noise outside the car.
@Im1nl0v3 Thats just what i think! I mean after Reutimanns fontana wreck that unlike this one had ZERO view of it(thank god for the onboard), i always hoped they started that. 2 of the hardest crashes in history not disantly shot, then they get one car spinning thats far from everyone else, thats sad.
@Im1nl0v3 it sounds good in theory, but each onboard camera costs thousands upon thousands of dollars. in order to have 1 camera on each car, we would likely have to say good bye to 8 or 9 cars having 3 different angles and put up with only roof cams from now on. unless the tv networks come up with all kinds of money, thats really the only alternative. especially with the economy the way it is and networks trying to save money where ever they can, honestly were lucky to have as many as we do now
Everyone was focused on the Busch crash so the cameras were following him from all angles, meaning no one focused on Saddler's crash. The one angle just happened to catch it, and what you don't see in later showings of that replay is that that camera then pulled back and focused on Saddler. Nonetheless, this HAS to be the worst crash in NASCAR history, even over pileups. Saddler is lucky to be alive, and they believe the helmet lock device is to credit with that.
@CycloneGU if you look in the distance of buschs onboard view at 3:24, you can see sadlers car spinning in the air. And it was reported the hardest hit in nascar history.
@CycloneGU Yeah if you watch the view on 3:40, watch Busches car and when he hits the wall, its right after Sadler hits. So watch Buschs onboard again and before the car hits the wall youll see Sadlers car a little. Ive looked this over alot and the crash really is like Phil Finneys daytona wreck years back, less air though.
If you look in the distance of buschs rear camera view I think you can see sadlers car spinning in the air but I have the race recorded in hd and you can see it well•this is the first wrexk since reutimanns fontana wreck a few years ago what terrible coverage both near live threatning wrecks not caught
@lakelandchief yes I agree but the last thing johnson was trying to do was cause a wreck. It was just racing and I don't think he did it on purpose. But yes. Good point. You don't bump draft at pocono
I can't imagine what it was like for Elliott. That straight has seen some brutal crashes in its history... Davey Allison doing cartwheels after getting clipped by Darrell Waltrip in '91... hid dad Bobby having his career ended by injuries when he got caught up in a wreck there and T-boned in '87...
Pocono's a unique and challenging racetrack, but I think NASCAR drivers better learn to be a little more careful when they make moves on it. You can screw up bad in a hurry!
I feel sorry for all the drivers involved even jimmie johnson. Anyone who knows how he races knows that wasn't intentional. I'm not his biggest fan but he was definitely just tryin to bump draft and even help kurt out. It's just part of racing though. I'm glad Elliot sadler was ok. Those harnesses really worked their magic
Damn Sadler got really lucky in this crash. You can tell by the look on his face that he got the wind knocked out of him and that he might have a concussion. That really sucks for him but at least he was ok in the end.
@tubeyou443 I am starting to notice, case in point Ron's crash at ORP, only a losuy onboard. Even the amteur angles would of have caught Ron's wreck two weeks ago.
horrible crash...................that no one got to see, shouldnt ESPN have a camera mounted on the wall in turn 2 at the end of the long pond straight just like TNT did, they had angles of the big wreck everywhere and you could see everything when they had the camera at the end of the straightaway. Horrible coverage, i would like to see in car cameras in all the cars so we can know what happened in a situation like this. It sucks everyone missed this cuz of ESPN coverage.
I was praying Elliot was OK after I Saw his car in pieces. I think there will be more in-car footage shown later ? someones gotta have a shot of who hit him and how it started, heck they showed kurts wreck from Rootie's roofcam. I am just really glad Elliot is OK, I was thinking of the day before how happy he was and I watched him kiss his wife & little boy in victory lane. Thank God the team built such a fine car I am so grateful Elliot is still in one piece !
My question is this. everyone was all over carl edwards last week, because he turned a guy on the straitaway and he could've killed the guy at 120 mph. But it's ok for Jimmy Johnson just to run through Kurt BUsch and turn him at 180 mph on the straitaway? He didn't even hit him bumper to bumper. you can tell he hit him on his quarterpanel side. you dont hit someone like that to bumpdraft. That could've killed someone. Elliot Sadler could've been killed
finally a video that proves my theory. ok here it is. aj allmendinger wreck elliott sadler as he did kasey kahne. first of all when the cars came to pit road after this they showed a shot of aj's car and it had a hole in the left front fender. and if you look at 0:39 they are right next to each other on the ticker. coincidence??
@IamTheShermanator I'm wondering if he did in fact turn over. Look during 5:25 at the area where he wrecked. You see the mud tracks going to the "v" in the fence. But there are no mud tracks away from the fence until about 20 or so feet back then you see the tracks all the way across to where the car sits. He either barrel rolled it in mid air and landing on all 4 or he spun like a top in mid air. Either way, his car was airborne I believe.
@AJclips Im with you AJ, no tracks back ? ...............cause he was airborne after the head on. pretty sure he "pinwheeled" up and around rather than straight back. Tossed the whole front of the car off. Thank God too. shocking to watch I am so grateful Elliot is OK. Whew..
@AJclips he did get airborne for sure. theres a view from the rear cam from kurts car where if you look closely you can see his car getting thrown through the air. I believe the crash might have looked simalar to sam hornishes last year at watkins glen when the car got thrown around after he impacte the wall...but unless theres some photos or an amature video we may never know for sure
Fuckin shitty ass cameramen, they couldn't even catch the crash with the arial view what the fuck?? you couldn't zoom out? Fox never has that happen, Fox atleast has a static view of a crash that is hard to see.
@MortifiedPenguin275 yeah. you know what Kurt did to Jimmy in New Hampshire was the closest thing I've seen since the great late dale earnhardt was with us. It was a beautiful bump that was smooth and both cars kept racing. three laps later, Jimmy tried to wreck kurt to get back at him. and has the right to do it. yet he saved it and that was that. after the race Jimmy was crying about it and said he would race him different. I guess he did today.
Hard hit Sadler. Why would you lay down on the straightaway?
