  • Jerry has been my hero since I was little.. Growing up in a guitar picking family in Ky. I remember hearing him back in the 70's before the Smokey and the Bandit movie came out. He was a real inspiration to me and I'm having a hard time accepting that he has gone on... I miss you Jerry.. There will never be another like him.

  • Heavy Nylon.

  • Move over give that hairy legged guitar pickin boy some room...son! Sure miss that wild man, he was one of a kind.

  • Very under-appreciated player.....

  • Jerry, along with Chet Atkins, Mark Knoffler, Eric Clapton and Les Paul, are legends that need to be appreciated. Thank you all for the music.

  • Checkout" hellbillies claw" . Much better.

  • The ONLY guitar player that even comes close to playing this true to form is Jerry Donahue.

  • i sure miss jerry chet and les paul thay dident even have to open there mouth to please a cowd.everybody else is copy cats

  • You want to see what an amazing actor Jerry was? Rent "Gator" with Burt Reynolds. He was amazing as the villain in that movie.

  • @ohyeummm I know I hated him with that sawed off double barrel.

  • Did you know Jerry wrote Crazy Legs for the great Gene Vincent?

This man has done it all...with class!

  • What a wildman!! RIP Jerry......we miss ya!

  • What other movies did Jerry Reed (the king of all music in my opinion) play in besides smokey 1,2,3 and the waterboy?

  • amen blooze, im 31 too but im a jerry fan , next to junior brown

  • @pacisablo Ohh! Jr's the man!

  • Jerry reed. the Guitar Man, wrote and played and made a hit of guitar man and played on the Elvis presley hit of his song! and then went on to star in so many films including smokey and the bandit, did this man not give so much enjoyement to so many people for so little reward!!

  • Jerry Reed definitely had a style of his own and was great at it. It is true "when you're hot you're hot". Joe Maphis had the speed style, Merle Travis had the thumb style....They're gone now, but their music will live as long as this country....which, I might add, may not bee too long!!!!!

  • he was an awesome guitarist till his last days here^^

    total guitar hero!

Rest in peace ol´brother hubbard ^^

  • Johnny Mills: Drums

  • Here is a funny story about Jerry Reed. Jerry Chet Atkins and Glen Campbell all had offices in the same building in Nashville. Well. Jerry and Glenn were always kinda guitar rivals, they were always trying to out pick each other. One day Jery was passing by Chets office and he heard Chet playing this killer lick. He said, Chet you have to show me that lick.

So Chet showed it to him. Jerry practised it all week and went streight to Glens office and just exploded it right in Glens face.

  • @Telelikeitis Glen is pretty good, but he's not in Jerry's league.

  • So old Glenn picked up his guitar and exploded it right back at him. Jerry said, so Glenn, when did Chet show you that lick?

Glenn replied, he didn't, I showed it to him last week.

  • Johnny Mills is the Drummer.

  • Johnny Mills is the Drummer.

  • Jerry was one of the greatest guys there ever was ...

  • r.i.p jerry , a hero of mine and many others , keep playin snowman

  • great sense of humor and a great guitar player

  • damn I've never heard this guy before but he's awesome! sorta like a country version of Tommy Emmanuel and equally catchy. I'm definitely going to look up more jerry reed vids now lol

  • Like most true musicians, Jerry didn't need the limelite to enjoy his guitar. He was happiest when he was playing, didn't matter if it was backup, solo break, or singin' picker. Didn't take himself too seriously either. Although I don't think he ever played anything wrong twice, he would laugh when he missed it trying a particularly slick lick. Loved him from my H.S. days, miss him like crazy.

  • Jerry Reed is perhaps one of the most underated guys at everything he ever did. Miss ya SON!

  • go jerry...but that kirk sand aint no baldwin son

  • @heileman28 That Godin Multiac ain't no Baldwin nor Kirk Sand. That is if you were talking about the guitar Jerry used in this video.

  • I remember seeing Jerry Reed at Indian Ranch in Webster, MA, in 1983 I believe. A great show for sure. RIP Snowman!!!

  • Jerry Reed a legend guitar picker

  • Jerry Reed!

U can make an accoustic Sound good!

  • HOT DAMN! R.I.P Jerry, you were among the best.

  • ah, Jerry Reed ain't dead. He lives on in all of us.

  • Damn, Jerry could play!!!!!!

  • Jerry was a grade A fantastic guitarist!!

One of Nashville's greats, back in his day no one could touch him. He laid the foundation for modern day country rock.

    RIP Jerry!

  • Well said!

  • Nah, Hes not dead. Jerry Reed will live on forever.

  • @Wastelander1972 every time you press play

  • I'm kicken myself for never having seen Jerry perform while he was still with us.

  • me too me too i heard he was sick back a while ago and there was nothing to show any progress in him gettin better and then i heard on the radio that he had passed

  • Fylockrock, way to go Commander Obvious, King of the Pretentious, Ruler of the Stupid. A statement like that makes you sound like a 1st year guitar lesson know it all dork.

  • Kind of like slowed down versions of a cross between "Wham" and "Scuttle Buttin'" Really GREAT stuff! Rip Jerry!

  • Are there any notes on his guitar that don`t fit......one of those guys who could of played it out of tune and still make it work.

  • Always loved this guy - inspirational guitar player

  • Think it's a Kirk Sand guitar. Customer guitar builder out of Laguna Beach, California. Google it and go into his site and you'll see. Lot's of professional guitarist own them.

  • This is actually a blues progression...

  • all music is lol, SRV would be proud

  • Yes...very standard

  • @frylockrock

hah,, and for those that dont know, that thing in his hands, is a guitar. those 2 things he uses to stand upright with are leggs.. are we clever or what!

  • Jerry has a severe case of talent.

  • Had... :(

  • sadly your right-..had

  • Just think of who he's jammin' with now.

  • With Chet of course !

  • Thanks for the music, Jerry. I'll always think of you when I pick up a guitar.

  • awsome

  • Dang...That was brilliant. Thanks for posting!

  • Melody , speed and awesome consistency. A true legend.

  • Truly under-appreciated. Many have studied the master.

    Unfortunate his Cannonball overage.

  • no one picks like jerry.

  • You said that right Ron!

  • Thank´s aligotado for this video i love a country music and....the best of the best Jerry Reed RIP.

  • Thank you alyagotado for sharing. If not for people such as yourself some of us would never get to see clips like this. Again, thanks a million !

  • He must've been wicked happy when Godin came out with that guitar, I never even thought of that. He was always playing the classical and the electric...then they joined the 2 into one instrument, great concept. Great video.

  • Even at this age he is a mad man!! He is my hero. We miss you Jerry!!

  • the best!

  • I discovered Jerry's incredible guitar playing a while back. This is great, though "Nervous Breakdown" is my favorite.

  • I don't think i'll ever be the same now that he is gone. im gonna miss the snowman.

  • RIP

  • My Jerry Reed story. I used to run the stage lights at WDW castle stage years ago. Once we had Jerry and his band. I was so excited as Jerry was my favorite and I new all his songs. I designed the lights with his songs in mind and had a blast running the show. Afterwards, the tour manager said, "Jerry want's to know who the F***er on lights is!" "WHAT!" i thought I was doing a good job. Seeing that i was upset, the manager said, "You don't understand. When Jerry calls you a f***er, that's good!"

  • Cool...

  • i'm 16 and i know who he is..

    Rip Snowman

    U Legend

  • I'm only 14, and I know who the Snowman is, may he rest in peace.

  • im 27 ( why is this relevant ? ) never heard of him before.

its allways good to discover good music. alot of great music in the world to be discovered, long live the internet :)

  • im 17 and i've been listen'n to jerry since i was born i was raised on it such a big loss to music

  • Well, Jerr fell into that category of occasional guitarist, mostly known actor alongside Burt Reynolds in the Smokey movies of the 70s. It's a shame because Chet branded him Certified as a guitar player as well as Tommy Emmanuel. This boy was virtually undefinable. I watch Jerry's Breakdown and I, for the life of me, can't figure out what he's doing. I've been playing since 1968 and it's a sight to see. I hear Jerry was as nice a guy as they came. God bless him.

  • Cool Story.

  • he makes it look so easy, they don't make real entertainers like this anymore

  • R.I.P Snowman keep the pedal to the metal you got a strght shot to the pealy gates.

  • One of the most influential men in country music. A true legend.

  • I listened to him play guitar pretty much all my life. He was, is and always will be a great inspiration to me. I loved those Bandit movies too! R.I.P. Snowman.

  • I saw Jerry perform at a carnival in Lawn, PA in either 2002 or 2003. It was such a down to earth atmosphere, with simple people, who enjoyed every minute of the performance. I cherish the memory of that night. Thank you Jerry for bringing so many smiles into a world with way too much misery. RIP.

  • I once saw an interview with Chet where he said "most people don't realize how good a guitar player Jerry is, and he doesn't realize it either." I always thought that pretty well summed up Jerry's great talent and humble self-deprecating attitude. I will miss him!

  • Jerry was my hero

  • RIP, Mr. Reed. Incredibly talented and humble man.

  • jerry reed waz the man and the snowman

  • We lost a great american but how wonderful it is that we still have his music.

  • Jerry Reed was THE best guitarist in my opinion.

And to borrow some words from one of his songs, Jerry, "Your a legend to the old men, a hero to the child" :)

RIP Jerry, you'll be missed dearly.

  • It's great to see so many JR fans out there! I bought a couple of his old vinyl albums from the 70's a couple months ago and was blown away. I was thinking he was under rated and felt like he was forgotten. Wish I caught him in concert. He was the coolest. RIP Snowman.

  • I witnessed and met this man during a USO show tour in norther Japan, Misawa AFB to be exact;he played two nights there you see.He even got "Ol'Bubba" the 432nd TFW XO(Exec Officer) to get up on stage and play the spoons w/him. To me, it was a treat to meet him, laugh with him, him laugh at me and me at him! A good Ol'boy that wont hold back his hand or his smile to great you. Jerry, I hope you didnt suffer too much with your disease, you are free now,Higher than a Georgia Pine, Sir!

  • talk about an original American icon.....Jerry Reed was the real deal....self made, self taught, nice guy, knew his strengths and got the most from them. I think he would have gotten more acting roles had he not been so typecast in the deveil may care good ole boy image.....but thats exactly what he was. there arent many of these guys left.

  • Another great legend gone. The Snowman 10-10 on the side.

  • So long, Jerry. One immensely talented musician, perhaps one of the best guitarists in history, period. I'll miss your big bad, laugh, the way you made a guitar speak, and for the really cool guy you were! God bless ya...Shon!!!

  • RIP Jerry Reed, one of the best ever, no doubt.

  • It's only now that the pop country stations remembered who the Guitar Man is... they've taken a short break from the American Idol shit they've been playing, played "EAST BOUND AND DOWN" gone home feeling content for remembering Mr. Reed.

This, along with so many other great songs, prove Jerry was far better than "EAST BOUND" or "GOLDMINE" or even "WHEN YOU'RE HOT" .. he, along with Chet Atkins and Buck Rogers are the true guitar heros.

  • Amen, It is a shame that these country stations don't properly honor the true greats in country music. Its rrae to hear a Jerry Reed song where i live, or even a Johy Cash song. I told my friends that he died, and they asked who is he. That one hurt. Jerry Reed was the man, a guy who I looked up to, and these punk kids don't even know who he is.

  • I know who he is, I'm 13. Not all us kids are lousy ya know. Rip Snowman.

P.S. His coolest song was The Bird

  • Nobody my age knows who he is either and I'm 31. Nobody knows or cares because they are all brainwashed by American Idol and oblivious to any of the great legends like Jerry Reed.

  • I agree with you entirely. These American Idol morons get up there and dance and belt out songs, and the judges make their predictable comments and everyone says "wow screw the amazing Musicians who came before, and earned their rep the hard way, Lets just ogle the new lazy ass pop stars.

  • @BloozeDaddy76

    couldn't agree more!!!

  • @BloozeDaddy76 Ever hear of a Movie Called Smokey and the Bandit? Jerry Reed is the truck driver.

  • I saw Jerry and Jeanie C Riley do a show in 1975, on our honeymoon in Lake Tahoe at the Sierra Tahoe Hotel Casino. Fabulous Show!! Incredible talent. We'll miss him too!

  • Another great guitar picker gone home.

  • They don't make guitar players like that anymore. He was a true entertainer

    Rest in Peace Jerry

  • I had the pleasure of meeting Mr Reed on two occasions. The first was at a stock car race that I was entered in years ago. A year later with my 3 year old on my knee he still remembered our chat and seeing me in the audience at a concert he made a point of coming into the crowd and singing my young daughter a song. She is 23 now and still holds that moment dear. WE LOVE YOU JERRY RIP

  • Great story, We will miss him

  • What a wonderful memory to grow up with :) he was definitely a calibre of star we don't see much of these days.

  • one of the last real old school country artists and a man who's contributions to the music industry will only now be realized like so many great musicians that died before him. God blessed us for giving us the opportunity to listen to his music and expierience his talent. Now his pain is over and he can shine in the light of the Lord.

  • ^^^What he said. :( THANK YOU JERRY REED!!!

  • RIP SnowMan

  • Saw you once, admired you always.

    Peace, my brother.

  • RIP Jerry. You will be missed.

    :(

  • One of the world's great musicians. He'll be sorely missed. Good-bye, Jerry.

  • @dipper thats bc he's the one who created this song. your always gunna play a song that you made up well. bc hey, its your song lol.

  • Im aware of that, I was merely saying how everyone else pales in comparison when they play it when compared to jerry :)

  • you can really see on his face that he's really enjoying playing this tune. Of all the people i've heard who've played this...they NEVER, NEVER get it the way jerry does.

When Jerry plays it, its perfect :)

  • Ummm. I'm a noob I guess to all this but uhh. Is Chet Atkins alive? No? Where was he burried. I have dreams about haveing a huge get together at his place of rest.

  • jerry reed for president WOO WOO WOO

  • HEY!!! MY LINE!!!! I MADE IT UP!!! But yeah.....JERRY REED FOR PRESIDENT!!!!

  • WOO HOO thatd be great

  • Jerry Reed's guitar duets with Glenn Campbell,(a very underrated guitarist himself), on Campbell's tv show, were the greatest.

  • Incredibly gifted musician. My posting does not do him justice. Ultimate entertainer.

  • A killer rendition of this song was done by Hellcasters member Jerry Donahue. I think it's on YouTube.

  • Jerry Reed=badass guitar player

  • Hey newbroken, plays better/worse etc..boring..Jerry Reed wrote the fucking song..one could argue he kind of invented the style. Check out his "Red Hot Picker" album if you can find it? Its a lot easier to take something someone else has done and do a take on it.. Reed's played this 1000s of times. Its problematic to compare a Telecaster version with this one. Anyway you certainly have the right to your opinions and your own criteria for judgement

(speed etc), nonetheless its very subjective

  • What is your problem? You want to enjoy music or just issue statements and publish opinions? I suggest you just enjoy the music of brilliant musicians. You are right. Jerry Reed is a great performer. The best guitarist in the world was never born and never will be. Let us listen to music anyway.

  • yeah jerry does it a lot better.

  • One of the things the annoys Jerry (this comes from him) is when someone plays his tunes too fast.

The person you mentioned played it too fast.

Jerry put much more feeling in it.
