Google Groups has become severely limited in the recent past. You can no longer post home page messages, share files or photos, or post a calendar of events. Yet Yahoo! Groups still offers these functions. Please Google, bring the old groups back again!

Wait this works with custom domains now? Because that's the only reason that would stop it from replacing vBulletin or SMF forums.

Last time I tired Google Groups it was kinda limited on what you can do with the design. Also there were no sub boards. Just boards and threads- no child boards. If google were to come out with something that was on par with VB or SMF then D:

Private boards, signatures, theme engine like blogger- maybe blogger integration.

Also yeah teh 4chan reference was funneh

Expanding on what I said:

If Google integrated this with blogger that would be awesome. People want a CMS system so they often use a front end that runs off of a forum engine like vB or SMF or use Joomla or WordPress. Blogger can basically do everything WordPress can now- minus the alphabetical order and sub categories. But yeah if the followers of a blog could be integrated into a google groups so that blogger runs as the front page and the groups runs as the forum- that would be hawt :O
