jrobi the knight played to A3 @3:17 was to prevent you from playing your knight to c2 threatening his rook cause you know his queen wasnt going to attack your knight cause it was lined up with the bishop but its still looking silly but it had purpose ^_^
at 1:46 y not try for the greek gift!!!!!!!!!for those of you who do not know the greek gift this is how it goes: h4 Bd7,Bxh7 Kxh7,Ng5+ Kg8,Qh5 and whatever Black does, forced checkmate on h7 by white queen
Jrobi, at about 9:53ish, the most obvious move in my mind is to put your knight on f4 attacking whites queen. After the queen moves off, knight can then move to e2 forking white and capturing a rook.
"Thrust F6 forward like a Spartan spear". Hahahahahaha! GREAT line, which is one of the reasons I love your videos. Not only educational but entertaining as well. Other guys just sound so boring when they're explaining moves but you come up with lines that also show your passion for the game. "Ripping into the position" is another one of my favourites.
I feel resigning here is a bit early. Ra2 would have garunteed the win back of a pawn, and the black king still has to move all the way to the c file in order to promote the weaker pawns.
I'm very much a novice, so I feel like White gave up too soon here. In subsequent moves I see the check from the knight, followed by the rook falling, followed by the pawn on b3 being taken. Is there no chance that the white king and knight could stop the black pawns from promotion?
I find the King and Knight combo to be very frustrating to attack with in the endgame.
dear Jrobichess, I have a chess game that I would like u to analyze, i won, but i would like to know if i could of check mated faster, and what i should of done to improve my structure, etc. if u agree to analyze tell me and i'll send a link to the vid.
Great video! Enjoyed it so much and learnt allot! I Play the Sicillian Defense Nadorf variation as black I used to play the Alkine defense but I decided the Sicillian Defense I better because later on in the game I usually find My nights in a Horrible position! I have one question for you what opening do you play as white?
I have a few exciting matches I've played online could I submit them over to you for a analysis review? And put your twist of what you do like your utube video commentary
What would you recommend to a 1320 rated player to help improve his chess? I do good in the opening but I get ripped apart with attacks on my kingside and positional mistakes. Check out my player profile on FICS chess and give me some advice. (Urilikescrack).
I think at 06:32 a better move for white would be c5. After some material exchanges i think that black will either lose the b7 pawn or the knight on b4. Interesting game Jrobi!
at 13:26 when u threatened your opponent was thinking about queen to h5 after u thrusting that pawn a pretty good move but he forgot about his rook un protected
at 10:00 isn't knight to F5 a good move? It forces the queen to move and if the queen moves you have a knight fork on e2 to win the rook. If the queen tries to go to e3 for a queen trade you can still make the fork: Qe3 Ne2+, Kf1 Qxe3, fxe3, Nxc1
Yeah because some of your analsy are pretty good and rate much higher then 1500. Also am 1800 and some the people that i play are rated higher then me but play less good then you.
I think it would be helpful to point the fundamental things. You had the idea for a favorable minor piece trade with Nb4 (good thinking, not bad) to which your opponent should have kept up normal development with Nc3. Then again fails to play Nc3 by playing Na3. Giving you a great game out of the opening.
Fundamental points like these will help your viewers more than engine analysis (eg 6:30) that will leave them thinking like 7:15 "I like how the knigts surround that pawn"
I think instead of move Re1 for white (time 4:20) was bad move because Nf3-e1, follow up with Na3-c2, would be nice since you will be force to move the knight on b4.
That's interesting. But actually I didn't know your rating before. My word is that you are much more better teacher than what you are as a player ;-) But someday you will be a good player too
at 10:17 i would've played knight to f4 because if we do the queen trade his knight can't do anything for the short term, but the knight can take the rook, and it can get checkmate in 2 moves with the queen.
i will say again your personal games (or anyones for that matter) are my favorite vids... love to hear what you have in mind when you make a move... also just curious why you haven't gotten an offical rating and begun playing OTB tournements?
Thanks Fezz! The long and short of it is that I don't live in an area with an established club for tournament play. I am looking to make some trips in the near future to begin some OTB tournaments though - I will post when it happens. Thanks for checking out the vid!

these are excellent vids. i don't play in leagues or anything, but I can actually stand a chance against my dad now. It's funny, when im playing and thinking about the different moves its like i hear jrobi's voice inside my head
nice jrobi... thank you so much for posting this. I love the alehkine defense and play it almost exclusively on pogo. I've been looking for grandmaster games on youtube with the alehkine defense but i can't seem to find any so thanks a lot for this man.
Haven't checked chess vids lately, but it's nice to see that you're back. This was a very nice video, nothing dramatic but a good game to show how a mid level chess game could and should be played. Good recovery and finish too.
I'm surprised white didn't just go Nc2 far earlier (say, in direct response to c6)... just strikes me as a far better challenge to your knight. Certainly, it'd be better than the theoretical futzing around with bishop threats that'll just give you the exchange that you want.
It wasn't too easy because of my light square bishop + knight bearing down on C2 - and the only defender would be the white queen. White could definitely prepare for that with Rc1, though, which was eventually played. Thanks for checking out the vid!
great Video Jrobi, please keep them coming as you a bit closer to my skill level. I'm rated lower than you in 20 and 25 minute games on the FICS (thanks for directing me to that, and helping me set up Babas through you webpage, great stuff).
But yea good game, I can learn alot from these , more than watching high rated 5 minute blitz games; although entertaining, it's way above my level, and I don't really play blitz.
So again thanks for the upload, and please, keep the games comeing. thx
Thanks Nola - I appreciate the comment. I have slowed way down in my blitz playing to focus mainly on my longer time control performance. Blitz is fun, though, no doubt about it. =)
It is very reassuring to see players of your caliber making silly mistakes because now I don't feel quite as stupid when I make silly mistakes.... :-)
There are some grandmasters who have dropped their queen's, so I think mistakes just will always happen - it's the frequency that we can modify. Thanks for checking out the vid!
When you moved your knight up to C2, instead, I like pushing the G pawn up to G5 and either he peels off the e5 pawn defender so the rook can take it or you get the pawn next move
very good Bf5 :) i think B:b1 would be better than Rb8 - it wins some tempos. the Ng4 Bf4 Nf6 is a waste of time resulting in the loss of one tempo and hes got a very good position now for the bishoop.
Taking the bad knight with the strong bishop doesn't do much for black's position unfortunately. After rook takes, white has A3 coming up and I think will be setting the pace of the game.
I don't think a D pawn push at 4:10 would be good for white. Black can just take the pawn, and if white recaptures black can just get a free pawn because the black knights will be defending D5.
Not sure about that but I am definitely going to push it as far as I can! I am excited about getting into some over-the-board battles with some points on the line. Thanks for checking out the vid!
jrobi the knight played to A3 @3:17 was to prevent you from playing your knight to c2 threatening his rook cause you know his queen wasnt going to attack your knight cause it was lined up with the bishop but its still looking silly but it had purpose ^_^

At 5:07 or so, couldn't you just take the bishop on D3 and just win a piece?
ArmSor 2 years ago
No, because the bishop on E7 doesn't have a defender unfortunately. Thanks for checking out the vid!

Nice come back, it's amazing how many moves you can find when you analyze the game, I think most of us would have made similar mistakes as you.

Good catch David - it would have just been a rook after first taking A3.
