Tennis was in good hands back then. There was variety and unpredictability within the tour, there were guys who could potentially win the tournament and a tonne of guys who could beat anyone on any given day. Miss those days, tennis isn't in a good state right now.
@MaratSafinVideos I agree. I miss serve and volleyers and the variety. The rackets, particularly the strings and the slowing of the balls and surfaces have phased a lot of the variety out.
@Mzee1084 Balls and surfaces yes, not rackets and not really strings either. Still nothing comes close to the Pro Staff original and PC600. I wish they would change the surfaces back and the balls (in certain tournaments) cause this is a joke.
@1978utreg Ivanisevic and Krajicek were pretty much done come 2000. Ivanisevic obviously had his Wimbledon title but other than that, since 1998 he had done nothing. Krajicek was a non factor since 1999, he had a couple of good grand slam runs at the US Open and Wimbledon before bowing out. Those guys should certainly not be put in a group with those others.
@MaratSafinVideos Ivanisevic had a couple of wimbledonfinals and would have won it if it wasn't for Sampras standing in his way. Krajicek had the best record against sampras of all players and on a good day could beat anybody. Unfortunately his body wasn't made for toptennis. But i have to agree that they aren't as talented as some others
@1978utreg What are you talking about? I merely stated that Ivanisevic wasn't part of the 2000 era. His time was throughout the 90's as well as Krajicek. I certainly did not say that they aren't as talented as whoever, so I have no idea where you're getting that from.
AnferUtd stated players of the 2000 generation and you seemingly stated that Ivanisevic and Krajicek should be a part of this despite their time having passed.
@MaratSafinVideos sorry i misunderstood! its not my first language so i misread you. I just meant that on a good day they were also grat players but i agree that there prime was in there 90's indeed
@1978utreg Alright, sorry. On a good day Krajicek or Ivanisevic could definitely beat anybody on the world because they pretty much had 2 of the best serves ever with Sampras.
@MaratSafinVideos thats true but krajicek was sometimes mentally weak and had to many injuries wich was too bad because i think he could have won more slams or atleast had more big wins. 90's were a great area with fantastic players like sampras, agassi, rafter, edberg, becker ivanicevic, courier, kafelnikov and many many others. more adventerous play then the players nowadays tivalry between agassi and sampras was great haha did you see the charity double match with nadal and federer?
@1978utreg The 90's was a great time in tennis. There was just so much variety in styles and court surfaces. Krajicek and Ivanisevic were injury prone as are pretty much all big guys. Both obviously could''ve won more slams and done better at the US Open. Krajicek had his chance when he had Sampras on the ropes but not sure if he'd have beaten Safin. I seen some of that, Agassi was absolutely nailing returns. I miss his clean, flat ball striking. The Agassi/Sampras feud was fun too haha
guga was robbed in this match... ref took on crowd's pressure... guga should be the only one to beat agassi and sampras in the same tournament twice( miami and masters cup )
I never replied to this 10 months ago although I should have. Sampras won the 1st set 6-1 and served for the 2nd set at 5-4. Sampras was all over Kuerten and would have won this match easily if he had served out the 2nd set.
The fact that he didn't turned it into a dogfight and one of the best matches of the Open era. But Kuerten wasn't robbed, but comprehensively outplayed for an hour before turning it around.
@tatoworg Dude, you're totally lame. Guga wasn't robbed as much as any other tennis player who has ever doubted a linesman call. It's ridiculous. I'm brazilian, I've watched this game back in the day and I didn't think he was robbed. Get over it.
One of the best master series finals I've seen. Kuerten was returning Sampras' serve brilliantly throughout the match (even though Sampras held his serve for the last 3 sets, he was being stretched to the limit in most games), he was dying in the heat of Miami, and the court speed and bounce favored Kuerten more than Sampras. He still managed to find a way and win. Great champion!

This was a great moment for both Sampras and Kuerten - two great players with stylish games.
