@isa0ber This. I have a lot of pinned tabs. Sandboxing means that with one tab crashing or not responding, the rest aren't affected. Sadly, it doesn't happen in IE..... :P
The fact that Chrome runs each tab as separate processes is what got me to use it originally, and I have had no regrets since. Crashing has happened, but it hasn't been a problem like it was on firefox. (Sorry, firefox. I love you You still beat internet exploder by a lot) Also, since this computer is brand new and I recently bought more RAM for my old computer, RAM usage has not been an issue. Thanks Google, I just adore this browser. It doesn't have any of the issue mys others have had.
phew. I got a totally fake message that said "it will perform a scan of your system files" Haha I just ended that process, and it was gone....Thanks Chrome!
Yes, spend no more time self-educating and trying to reach maximum potential, instead let them manage all your crap while you bathe in pure lack of knowledge.
@linyuan123 well, i thinkt each tab is locked inside a vault (or sandbox, if you like) where one tab's plugins cant access the other tab's plugins. Thats my theory
Yeah screw your sandboxing, why am I going to use a browser when I can't read what the hell it displays! your "zoom" isn't just good enough, you must allow us to use BIGGER FONTS - fucking amateur children with perfect vision
Fun tip: Since Chrome uses multiple processes, if it hangs for some reason , it's usually Flash. Press Shift-Esc to open the Chrome task manager, kill Flash, and your browser works without having to force quit it.
The same works if an individual tab is sluggish or dead too.
@belmarfilms It basically does. The only problem with the Chrome sandbox (when compared to, say, Sandboxie) is that non-sandboxed plugins can still be exploited (Java, Quicktime, etc). Chrome does detect outdated versions and disables them in the event of a major vulnerability being detected, but it's still not a perfect solution.
A little confusing, but I think that this sandboxing is a great idea. If Google ever takes over the internet, at least we know they are helping us and keeping us users safe rather than benefiting themselves.
Does this prevent drive by downloads? I dont see how it would as the exploits continue to evolve to avoid encapsulation. I just had a tough one that caused craptastic windows vista to be reformat.
I like the part with the pixels on my screen changing color in order to produce a colored image so that my brain can interpret them as a video...and testicals...that is all
I like Chrome, but "sandbox" is nowhere to be found. Just five minutes ago one tab crashed, others never reacted at all, so everything hanged. Windows suggested to close Chrome, so I did.
I like the Idea of the sandbox but how long has it been in chrome? Ive used chrome ever sense it was released and Ive gotten around 3 viruses that affected my computer when I was using chrome. The reason I ask how long sandboxing has been around is because if it was in google chrome when I got the viruses then that means it failed.
this is false. I have every tab crash at the same time. Also, when flash crashes on one tab it will crash on all tabs that have Flash open. And if that malware moves to your temporary files on your computer Google can't contain it in their so-called "sandbox".
The idea of having every tab run it's own process was originally by some guy on VB.net forums who did it. I wonder if google got the idea from him or if they came up with it by them selfs too.
Please allow the Firebug on Chrome (not Firebug lite, but the full version). Until then, I'm not moving to Chrome. But i REALLY want to use it, as a web developer :(
Unfortunately, there's something called sub-tabs in Chrome. Which actually will be the same characteristic as the parent-tab. So if one of the tab crashed those all will crashed at the same time! So where's sandbox?
@mhaidarhanif In all parent tabs...?You should open totally different websites in different tabs anyway, sub-tab functionality is for different types webpages is a must for certain web-interfaces. (Like for school web interfaces, or company side web-interfaces) Future implementations won't be able to run in a sandbox mode wherein a change on one web page needs to change another interactively, you need a means to have the ability to create these types of interfaces, sub-tabs provides this means.
@jackalsocoke Well, not always must be totally different websites, when you open a new tab from on A to B, you will get the same parent tab, which is A. Then when you linked to C from A, you'll also get A as the parent tab. Another thing you and I should know, I'm using Dev version. So it can crashes frequently. That's the other reason why, not Chrome's fault, neither Sandbox mode. Thanks for reply.
Meh. You can still get rooted by a Java Drive-by if the dropper is crypted enought. I just tested a rootkit for a friend and it passed though Chrome 9 Dev and ESET Smart Security 4.2 like it was nothing.
@Mephistopelus Well it's JAVA's fault they haven't patch it yet. When they will collaborate with Chrome team to sandbox the plugin itself (like Flash has) it will become obsolete.
@DarkEvilWorm002 Actually a fun fact, Yahoo was offered to buy google when it was only a small little thing, but turned them down, i wonder who is laughing now ^^
