  • did this just recently....6mnths now...and it isnt easy.

  • Aha..The song is about wises! Like smoking, drinking, using drugs, gambling and womanizing..get it now.Well i never meet a man with no wises, some like to drink, some like to smoke, others like woman too much to stay faithful to just one, others like to gamble, some individuals have all of them(wises) together!

  • 10 months today, It's been tough, It get's easier, Love the song.

  • my grandma used to go the rio in longview texas and he used to preform there before he got famouse she said he used to be a huge drinker

  • I'm sorry but i had to say goodbye to an old friend of mine

  • I sadly had to say goodbye to a friend I miss all the great times we had together but she wasnt my friend anymore she changed for the worse not for the better and I would die for this girl but she would never let me help her I miss her so much and its only been two days.

  • he is not more famous because he sings about the truth...He sings about things most Americans believe in but the liberal media does not like that ...

  • Sadly I know too many people who can't say good bye........

  • I wished he would but it's his love you can't make a man quit drinking he has to do it for his self

  • For a sixteen year old to say that they can kind of relate to this song is so messed up.

Joe, you're quite possibly my hero.

I'm so glad i was introduced to your music and grew up listening to it.

And i'm insanely blessed to have met you.

I have nothing but thanks to say to you.

You've changed my life so, so, so much.

You were the glue that kept my family together.

You ARE the faith that my brother holds onto.

You're the only thing that keeps me sane.

... Just, thank you times a million.

  • Joe rocks i grew up in the country loving all of his songs

  • The beginning of this song sounds like "No" by Brad Paisley.

  • its safe to say that he's got one of the best voices in country music

  • if only some of my friends would say goodbye to this friend... it would be very good for them

  • y is it that joe has so many songs most ppl have heard many times but his veiws r always so low

  • what is he sing about? alcohol?

  • oh homem da voz boa, me sinto como se pudesse flutuar.

  • love this song

  • My Grams will be Proud of this song!!!

  • @psgutters amen to you bro, and god bless you for finding your path

  • I didn't say good-bye to my "old friend" until after the ones I'd loved and who loved me were done. I did time, lost custody (well-deserved), but I've said good-bye and when I hear this song, I celebrate and hope for those who are still hand-in-hand with the old friend, no matter the form it takes, that leads them so far away from what is freedom and joy.

  • Sometimes we have to hit rock bottom before we realize life is more than our addictions. Strength and love pulls us through tough times if we allow it to. Family, friends and those who believe in us give us hope that we can conquer anything.

  • I can't believe how hard this song is!!!! TOOO Touching :'(

  • i went through years of self harming felt id never get out of it because when i looked at the scars i hated them so i cut them i never thought id find love becaus nobody could love someone so scared in soul and in flesh but when i found the girl im now in love with she ran her fingers over each scar and just told me those times are gone now all the hurt inside can be gone and ever since that day she has held me in her heart and loved me for who i am not what i look like, ive never looked back

  • love how Joe actually gets into his feelings with his songs thats a true country singer there

  • Joe, I don't think Merle Haggard himself could have sang it any better. That's an amazing song and the best vocal I've heard come out of Nashville in years!!!!

  • RIP ann litton she died of cancer 6/17/11

  • RIP ann litton she dies of cancer 6/17/11

  • RIP leah smith 17 car crash died before she got out of highschool we will miss you!

  • Rip Leesa Fenanande Caron April of this year in a bike crash, at 19 years old. We all miss you Leesa!

  • Every time I hear Joe sing I want to comment. He really bared his soul in this song. When I hear country fans complain that there aren't any country singers out there anymore I usually agree but Joe Nichols is truly an exception and is the real deal. What an amazing voice!!!! He has chosen a hard profession for the problems that he has lived with, but I for one cheer him on 100% and hope he is able to keep the addiction monkey off his back. GO Joe GO, You sing we win.

  • I lived with alcohol being my only friend for many years... I found that recovery brings great friends and so much hope... This is one of the best songs I have heard in awhile....

  • I just want to say congratulations to Joe for overcoming his addiction to alcohol. Way to be a role model for the rest of the world. Everyone, it doesn't matter famous or not, can be caught up in an addiction. And you can overcome it.

  • Joe is way under rated!

  • I can count on one hand the "country singers" that I can call country today. Not a fan of the rock so called country of today but I love Joe's voice and music. Saw him on video singing with the great George Jones and he did a terrific job, held his own and that speaks volumes for him. Where are you Joe? Please keep singing and make us old country lovers happy.

  • this song is so touching, gets right to the heart, and your soul, you feel everyword and everything that Joe went through, and god bless him forwhat he is and has always been, a wonderful singer and a great man,so proud of him and what he has become,!

  • I can't believe Joe Nichols existed without my discovering it!! He's amazing! He should perform more often, more people should demand his live performance!!!Thanks for sharing it.

  • I'D COULD LOOK AT THAT FACE 24/7

  • I love his music its inspiriting and it reminds me of the better days of my life...

  • I hear this song, and I think of july 2010... The hardest month of my life. But reliefe for my best friend in the whole world. He was suffering from asophagial cancer. It had spread to his lungs, liver, and kidnies... Saying goodbye to that old friend of mine never seemed so hard. I've known him my whole life, and he had known me for 16 years of his. I love and truely miss you Grandpa, Thank you for being my Guardian Angel for 7 months and forever more♥

  • This man makes me cry..

  • joe ur amazing

  • I've never had a problem with drinking, but alot of my family has, Its hard to give up something thats so addicting and even harder for someone that lives their life like an open book to public, My hat goes off to Joe for giving up drinking and continuing to fight the addictions. I will always be a fan of yours and though I may never meet you in person, your in my prayers. God bless and keep up the awesome work!

  • you know if he shaves his hair to dressed up in combat and a white vest got little bit more tanned he would be image of the rock :D lol.

  • anyone feels likje this

  • i know this song is about achohol but when i heard it up untill the end it sounded like a divorce...my parents are getting a divorce.im 14 and i never thought it would happen to me.they always told me they promised they would stay together.

  • @kandiland3 better to live out the rest of there lifes happy , pet u won't always be 14 someday u understand but 4 u now it's just a big hurdle to jump and u will god bless.

  • @kandiland3 i was 5 the last time i saw my real mom. my parents got divorced then and she took a step back.just because i was only 5 doesnt mean i dont remember and i remember them saying they would always be together and there for me.now i live with my dad , but every night i think what if they were still together. . ... its not easy and its not fun, but i promise you will get through it. . .

  • @kandiland3 My parents divorced when I was 7. The last I heard from my mom was when I was 8. Its been 10 years now, and she barely speaks to me. I was heartbroken and I thought I was alone, but I know that I wasnt now. I know how it is, and I know the pain. The strength will come with time. and its going to hurt, but You will be alright one day.

  • 8 years, 10 months, 12 days, and still some days I miss that ole friend but still never want to see him again.

  • he is well know unless you have been hiding under a rock . he has not done much recent stuff , but listen to the song he was strugglin with alcohol addic and went to get help.. It takes a big man to admit to his problem and going for help when your in the public eye.. He is awesome .. And dam good lookin ...

  • Why isn't he more famous? He actually sings music. If there were no instruments, he'd still sound good. His voice is SO rad

  • @colorsocks13 there are a few good artists that u dont hear its basically cause of a whole of the people that listen to country like the main stars here is another artist u should listen to Steve Azar he is a great guy I have met him in person

  • @58vickiejom That's amazing. I'm so happy for you. I wish people in my life could do that..

  • Everyone says it hard to quit once you have done something for so long.....I want to drink and i am 13.....I am affraid to casue it runs in my family and i am scared i will turn into an addect....It scares me all the time and i can't imagine how it must feel to go through it. God bless all the one's who have found a way out............

  • This is a heart felt song of many who have recovbered. IT is not a easy row to hoe. Been there done that. This song hits home. 25 years clean and sober.

  • 6 months ago today...

  • This video is beautiful. I struggled with addiction myself. And the process of recovery is long and hard. But with people you love, everything is always made easier.

  • This is COUNTRY Music Nashville. Wake the hell up.

  • This may be the best song I have ever heard Joe. Good for you...

  • Not many singers now a days sing from the heart, We need more like him.

  • simply beautiful.

  • thats really hard to do

  • joe u r one of the best country singers ive heard

  • He sings from his heart and soul

  • Why isn't Joe more well-known? The more I hear of him, the better he sounds.

  • @SquallLionhart409 joe is well known, he has tons of songs, each one he makes just gets better and better.

  • @SquallLionhart409 he used to be big, but he hasent done alot of singing lately

  • Holy crap. What a song. What a delivery.

  • I wish my dad and mom would say goodbye to all their old friends. and i wish i could too. im 15 havent seen my mom since i was 3 and now my dad aint in my life either so i started doin the things they did t try and understand but now my life is going down in flames.

  • i love this song. it really shows the power in his amazing voice. i wish it would get air time on the radio.

  • Joe has been recording songs this profound since 2002 on every cd but this is the first time he has released one for the radio.

    It's about time.

Others include "My Wiskey Years" " My old friend the Blues" and "No time to Cry" to name a few.

  • @Bigbadben7 That's not true. O: Because I remember when The Impossible played on the radio back in 2002.

It's the only reason I know of Joe Nichols too. And because I loved the song I asked my parents to buy the CD for me.

  • @Lavinia44 The impossible was is one of the rare ones and it was his first single and I'm sure you can bring up song;s like If nobody believed in you and I'll wait for you as well but even those and the Impossible are lyrically the same Radio themes of God and faith in one's self. An old friend of mine is his first radio song to deal with something serious besides faith. Others like My whiskey years, My old friend the Blues, Revelation and No time to cry should have been released.

  • Man what a fricken killer song !! I met Brock (one of the writers) at Picks in Nashville. What a great message !! and Joe did an amazing job

  • This song should of been a keith whitley song....but it was ment for joe from the heavens my dad said so:) awsome job joe<3

  • this should but been a keith whitley song he would of done a really good job but.....but it was ment for joe from the heavens my dad said so:)

  • i must say...this one of the most hard hittin' home life songs ever written!! unless you've had some kind of addiction hit home....you are living in a dream world! i live it every day....the lyrics and the personal battle Joe battles....should open some eyes, mine were hard to find!!! Thanks and enjoy not only a great song but a winner singing it!

  • Poignant delivery. Touching message. Joe sings with "old soul."

  • Two of my buddies, Rick Tiger and Brock Stalvey wrote this song...It hit home for me as well...helped me quite a bit actually. Way to go guys! Im proud of you both!

  • i have an addiction that gets me in alot of trouble i got this thing for racing im real good and i build alot of high horse power cars and ....

  • Thank God that Joe wrote this and was able to say that he had an addiction. Unless you have been through an addiction you cannot understand the pain and hurt you really go through. He is using his pain to help others by giving them hope. Without hope what is out there and people that love you enough to support you to be able to be a overcomer. I've been through that pain and I know exactly what he is sharing with others. There is hope and love for no matter what your addiction is.

  • This would've been better with an actual music video, but it was a beautiful song nonetheless

  • Have you ever heard * old old house *

man i wish you could sing that song

    love Page

  • dear God why don't you dreary pond life pricks find a site to discuss your banal points of view. Leave this lovely music to people who enjoy life rather than suffer from it.

  • dawg00000 for gods sake shut up....its comments like that and ppl like u that racial seperation wont just die...u guys complain saying white ppl wont give up there racism...well i havent heard more then 5 whiteppl talk like most ppl of color have in a while..all i hear from them is nigger and craker and white boy and other crap....its just color it means nothing!! its not just us...its ppl like u that think the piece of dirt ur ancestors are from means everything...give us a break and let it go

  • I spent about 15 years in meth addiction. I was broke, broken and homeless. On July 28th, 2003, an angel dressed in a police uniform arrested me for domestic violence. I had never been to jail before and when the handcuffs went on me I felt as if a ton of bricks had been lifted off of my shoulders. I knew at that moment that the hell I was living was over. And it was and is.

  • Great for you. This same thing happened to my husband in 1997, it saved his life. This is a awsome song.

  • I'm glad you turned life around. Usualy I arrest the same ones over and over and they always talk of changing but never do. I'm glad to hear someone did..

  • @psgutters Good for you bud! Hoe are you making out?

  • @psgutters i am so glad that are free!!! Praise God.

  • @psgutters Listen to IMAGINE ME, by Kirk Franklin

God Loves You and Always Has!! I was homeless too, and my mom wouldn't come. I wasn't on any drugs or anything. I just trusted a friend to pay the rent that I gave him. God NEVER leaves!!! HE sent me an Angel too!! Because HE loves us!!!

  • @psgutters I am so glad that the good lord gave you the strength to overcome your weakness! We all are weak over something and just can't say no. I only hope that everyone could be like you and say goodbye to it. My cousin just died of an overdose. You were truly blessed by Jesus!

  • @psgutters psgutters, I know i dont know you i am proud of you, it tears a family up when you do it CONGRATS TO YOU

  • @psgutters im glad somebody sees police officers for what we truly are

  • @psgutters Amazing story, made me cry to read it!

  • @psgutters Beautiful words. God bless!

  • @psgutters God bless you

  • @psgutters Sometimes blessings come in strange packages.

  • @psgutters I wish my brother in law saw the angels dressed in police uniforms as help and not as harm. I hope I can tell this too my brother. And he can find it as touching as I did. Thank you for changing your ways. I now hope my brother can change his too.

  • You're right people of color will bring us brilliant songs.....From the makers of drive by shootings check out this new brilliant track called "back that ass up" in stores now!
