If I went to another country like russia, china, japan, etc....I would not want to speak english...I would want to learn the other country language before I even went unless it was just for a visit....because I would know I would not be able to find work, order food, get directions, or anything by speaking english in another country....I would also not want to go by american laws in another country so I woudl want to learn the other country laws before moving there.

MY only prob with immigrants is when they make no effort to learn the language, and avoid paying taxes by not becomming citizens. A while back Texans were having to fight the proposal that Spanish be recognized as a Texas language, and all signs should include both versions. Are we supposed to adopt their language because they dont want to adopt ours? I say "come on over!!" but please do it legally. Is that so wrong?
European immigrants built this country with an advanced technology, they worked very hard to make this country rich. 12 million undocumented law breakers take advantage of free medical systems. Mexico doesn't provide free medical care to Americans including all other foreigners when they are in Mexico. I think America should do the same thing. Many hard working Americans do not have health insurance or they are not qualified for free medical care (Medicaid).

Defend the statement that Hispanics are going through an assimilation process. The difference between Latino and Korean immigrants is the amount and duration of the immigration wave. The challenge with the Latino community is that the immigration is so fast and large that increasingly you are seeing people who are NEVER learning English (though their kids usually are.)

Illigal immagration is an over debated issue. America is a land of immagrants. I'd like to see schools welcome these newcomers, and help them to adjust to society. The difference between VA and CA is that the Hispanic community has always been there in CA living side-by-side with other communities, but they came here recently. Prince William County has a proud Confederate heritage, we were dealing with Blacks and even Asians, but now the numbers here are threatening to flip on us -- with minorities adding up to more than 50%. This would have been okay if it happened more gradually, I suspect.

Miss Park in the video makes a good point that even Mr. Soo, who eventually became successful and integrated, was at first like many Hispanic immigrants in that he could speak very little English.

If I went to another country like russia, china, japan, etc....I would not want to speak english...I would want to learn the other country language before I even went unless it was just for a visit....because I would know I would not be able to find work, order food, get directions, or anything by speaking english in another country....I would also not want to go by american laws in another country so I woudl want to learn the other country laws before moving there.

New laws that allow police to engage in racial profiling have led to American citizens being detained, questioned, ticketed for traffic violations, not because of how they're driving but because of how they look. I live in the D.M.V. are- that's D.C., Maryland, and Virginia- they most certainly are racially profiling. I have been a witness to it on more than one occassion. They can demand your id and can detain you if you refuse. They can search Hispanics with NO probable cause. I watched an officer stand on a corner and check ten Hispanic men who were simply walking by... I heard the story on CNN so you can probably look it up, but take it from someone who lives in it everyday, it's an injustice...

Benjamain Franklin complained about the German immigrants in Pennsylvania. In his view they were "swarthy" (?) and drank too much. Cotton Mather complained about the Scotch Irish immigrants in his neighborhood. They weren't swarthy, but he felt that they were noisy and, also, drank too much. So it goes. We are the children of immigrants and the grandparents of anti-immigrants. The geezer seems a tad intolerant, but someone probably gave his forefather an even harder time.

MY only prob with immigrants is when they make no effort to learn the language, and avoid paying taxes by not becomming citizens. A while back Texans were having to fight the proposal that Spanish be recognized as a Texas language, and all signs should include both versions. Are we supposed to adopt their language because they dont want to adopt ours? I say "come on over!!" but please do it legally. Is that so wrong?

European immigrants built this country with an advanced technology, they worked very hard to make this country rich. 12 million undocumented law breakers take advantage of free medical systems. Mexico doesn't provide free medical care to Americans including all other foreigners when they are in Mexico. I think America should do the same thing. Many hard working Americans do not have health insurance or they are not qualified for free medical care (Medicaid).

you say this as though there is an out right refusal. have you ever gone to someone living in the US who had a limited understanding of the enlglish language to learn english and if so was their response an out right "NO! never in my life" i think not. it is not refusal. more so over its a situation in which the phrase "easier said than done" applies. do you really think that these people arent pouring there hearts out to do the best they can?

Defend the statement that Hispanics are going through an assimilation process. The difference between Latino and Korean immigrants is the amount and duration of the immigration wave. The challenge with the Latino community is that the immigration is so fast and large that increasingly you are seeing people who are NEVER learning English (though their kids usually are.)

Same subject, minus the ignorance: Spanish speaking immigrants learn English faster than immigrants from Asian countries. In both cases, the first generation does not learn English at a high level. But if language skills. or lack there of, is a justification for hate, you're going to have to hate immigrants from most countries. Oh, but it's not strategic to hate so many people that they all band together against you. So, just hate the one group for now. You got it covered. Good job!

Come to a Korean community not all of them speak English...most of the times they only speak Korean and stick together like any other immigrants because they feel comfortable there...i know because my gf is a Korean-American and her dad has been here since the 70's and speaks very little English. Why is this? because towns like this old mans are not welcoming to immigrants...so they stick into their own communities and they could get around without knowing any English...

Illigal immagration is an over debated issue. America is a land of immagrants. I'd like to see schools welcome these newcomers, and help them to adjust to society. If they can't speak english then teach them, i'm sure they'd love to learn...Many people see imagrents as a problem, i see them as the foundation of America.

At least the foreigners can usually speak their own language correctly. Also as far as english being an official language then why is are medical system use latin and greek and are legal system and business french/latin ect words? The difference between VA and CA is that the Hispanic community has always been there in CA living side-by-side with other communities, but they came here recently. Prince William County has a proud Confederate heritage, we were dealing with Blacks and even Asians, but now the numbers here are threatening to flip on us -- with minorities adding up to more than 50%. This would have been okay if it happened more gradually, I suspect.
