I was 6 years old when this was mad and I living in ny I been in lauderdale on and off since 1999 and am currently living here full time now at 31 years old and its seems like its still the same besides the landscape and the music.. and the elbow room is still standing..
This was when the beach was cool and ROCKED. You could pretty much get away with anything back then. Not anymore. After they put that wall up, everything went to shit.
While i do agree that young women in the 80's were alot more classier i sort of think girls now are more attractive then women in the 80's. While todays girls dress like hoochies and are generally more sluty looking then girls of the 80's i still think they look better now. Of course thats just my opinion. I just didnt like the big teased hear on chicks in the 80's
those where some crazy times. i was to young to enjoy the lauderdale years but i heard the stories from my older brothers. my first of many spring break was daytona '91 and again in '92. after that we hit up nassau and then montego bay a few times but nothing compared to the daytona breaks. god, what i wouldn't give to have those days back! the early 90's were definitely a different time. our only concern was what to drink and where the party was!
I was too young to experience the Lauderdale years but I heard the stories and saw the pics and vids from my older brother. My spring breaks were during the early to mid 90's during the Daytona era with a couple to Jamaica and Nassau, but like you said, south beach or anywhere else for that matter will never compare to those peak years. It was difinitely a different time back then - What I wouldn't give to go back to '91. Now my spring breaks revolve around family cruises or Disney! ha!
Its funny because just last year while on a cruise during spring break the ship was full of young spring breakers being loud, drunk and obnoxious - After explaining to my oldest son (who was 8 at the time) what was going on, he looked at me and said ``I can`t wait till I get to college``. All I could do was laugh but deep down I was suddenly filled with fear thinking back to my own SB days.
fort lauderdale in the 80's , then daytona in the 90's was amazing, everyine raves about south beach, no comparison to those of us that lived spring break's peak years.
@bodizone1 Yeah, the best years of spring - I was too young to enjoy the lauderdale era but heard the stories and saw the pics and vids from my older brother. I made up for it though in Daytona during the early 90`s while in university. Now i`m nostalgic! Time to pull out my own pics and vids. Good times and good memories indeed

Heh, this is awesome seeing someone that had video from SB in the 80's. I went on 8 to 10 spring breaks (seriously, lol), most of them after college. Almost every location you can imagine, even went on 2 of them back to back one year after college, 2 different locations ....... wouldn't trade those trips for anything. My friends and I still talk about them today.
oh wow. was down there that year as young lad. got into most of the bars since no one ever hardly checked. lol. went there the next year and they put a cement highway divider wall between the street and the strip. and they had worse problems. good times and memories. thanks for the video. the chicks look just as good, just bigger hair and no tramp stamps. lol
Awesome! I lived in the Tradewinds hotel apartments right behind the Candy Store and worked at The Button on the Beach. I live in Illinois now since 1998 and this video was great to see. Im glad u guys were videoing. I saw at least 3 people i knew or remember from the beach.lol
Great Vid Art. Was ther back in 82 or 83.Great time, one of the best times of my life.Girls were hot,and don't think u wer so immature,we were the guys outside our motel room with cards from 1 to 10 rating the girls that walked by. U know how well that worked ? It was amazing wat conversations we struck up with that little game, and it worked ! Just a heck of a good time, beach, girls, sun, hell wat more is there, good health my friend and happy new year !!
Great video! I think I'm going to dig out my videos and turn it into a clip of a lot of fun we had in Lauderdale. The women were fine, the dancing was great, the beach was amazing and it was there that I had my first "long island iced tea." The first one went down like a lemonade and the waitress thought we were nuts as we drunk a bunch of them. Never saw the but cheek contest, but a lot of wet T shirt contests! Met a lot of hot girls at the PlayPen!
[insert 80's music here]. BUt yeah Fort Lauderdale is awesome. I would rather live there than Miami with all the rude wannabes who have no manners or hospitality skills to visitors.
I was there....along with 350,000 other people....I can still smell the Candy Store....smelled so bad they paved it over and made a parking lot out of it....a shame...kinda...
Gees, I was 14 :-) ,we used to ride our bikes all the way from Plantation and sit on the wall at the Candy Store, the beach pretty much sucks now, they took all the fun away, nothing is the same except the Elbo Room is still there.
Shoot it was only 10 miles or so, maybe an hour, first time I did it , I bought my Boss Cruiser :-) at Wheeler Dealer and rode straight to the strip. Boy I wish I could push some sort of reset button and go back in time. I live in Atlanta, I was a victim of too high real estate prices and got out of town to somewhere I could afford to buy a house. Oh I graduated from South Plantation High C/O 1990
I know the feeling. Once upon a time one could actually afford to live in Dade and Broward counties. But sometime in 90's that started to change very quickly for the worse. A good friend of mine recently moved to Georgia and to his surprise three of his neighbors are from So FL. I may just be the fourth. MCPSHS C/O 86.
Great video, one thing about watching the older spring break videos ... makes you realize spring break hasn't changed in 30 years, just the music is a little different now :)
Wow, dont get much of that over here, mainly because the 'summer' we have is between a day and a week, and its never that warm either. Bloody Britain!
how long did city limits stay in biz? wild that elbo room is still there. i also remember a cunningham's drugstore. lol
