I know how Adam feels about his obsessions, though I haven't quite gone to his level of creation. I do a lot of papercraft work and I've been getting into using foam for creating costumes, specificly an Iron Man one. I got papercraft templates modified for foam and began my work...and it's gone crazy from there. Some days my mind is going at 1,000 miles a second building and deconstructing pieces, wiring and lighting it. While I've never sculpted something that crazy, I know the obsession he has

Am I the only one who noticed how wrong his Maltese Falcon replica looks? The head is all wrong, the face looks way too sharp, the wings shoulder aren't as high as they should be and overall it doesn't look fat enough. Then again he said he was no sculptor but to allege his' was the most authentic.

You know, looking back at this, I wonder why he didn't bake the sculpey falcon before making a mold out of it.

Heck, that's how you get that shiny surface he was talking about. You bake the sculpey and then when it's hard you polish it. He must have done that with the dodo skeleton, so I don't see why he couldn't do the same with the falcon.

@cowsrock94 We get it. Macs are faster and more reliable than Windows PCs (nowadays). Just let me know when they finally realize that expandability and customization are important, and THEN I'll buy one. But until then, it's Windows 7 for me.

What can I say? I don't like needing to buy an entirely new computer every 2 years, when I can instead buy a computer that I can actually replace the parts of, at a 3rd the price.

@tehmikuji Im sorry but you actually dont have to replace a Mac every 2 years. I still use a 11 year old iMac G3, and I plan on using my Macbook until it dies. And I'm perfectly fine with people who use windows 7. And Macs are expandable and customizable.

@cowsrock94 You raise some good points. But if it's true that Mac's are expandable and customizable these days, that's (great) news to me. I did grow up initially with Macs; 2si (or w/e) through OS 8, and enjoyed it.

But what about hardware compatibility? Anything you can tell me about that?

I concede I don't know everything about Macs. My main concern is stuff like professional soundcards since I do music production / audio editing.

@tehmikuji But again, my other concern is the outrageous prices Apple charges for their products, but I guess you get what you pay for.. they could tone it down a bit though price-wise. I can build a top of the line PC for under $300. Can one even build a Mac period?

As for Hardware compatibility, Macs are really good. 99% of USB devices work without drivers or software, very fast ports all around; ethernet, firewire, usb and for MacBooks, power. For audio, iMac has a good quality sound device, it features a Mic in via 3.5mm Jack or Optical cable, or you can use a USB microphone like I do. If you want your own sound card however, you will have to buy a Mac Pro, but I have yet to find anything i cannot do with iMac Built in Audio.

@cowsrock94 USB and Firewire's all fine and dandy, I figured the compability would be fine with that, but I'm talking about things like PCI and PCI-e expansion slots. I don't like using USB devices for serious applications. (and I don't mean 'applications' in the 'programs' sense of the word, just for clarification.)

For example, I use an M-Audio Delta 66. I realize Mac tower's support this kind of stuff, but there just aren't ENOUGH hardware products that work with Mac in addition to Windows.

@tehmikuji That is an excellent point, and i totally agree. I think Apple should find a way to add one or two PCI or PCI-E slots to iMac, and make it more compatible with a wider variety or cards. However i dont think they should go all out, because if they did, it would most likely end up lowering Mac OS's stability that its famous for.

Don't get me wrong, I'd buy an iMac or MacBook Pro if I didn't have to shell out 1.2 to 2+ thousand $ for one.

Like I said, I can build a top of the line PC with everything I need and no hardware/software compatibility issues for under $300, so a modern Mac is just a novelty I'll buy later when I'm rich enough that the price doesn't impact me so much (I do plan on having 2 or 3 comps eventually).
