  • Midori is triple axel queen with such an amazing height. At the same time I love Mao's, it looks like she makes it very easily... Jumps are high lights of figure skating and all the time it makes me wow.

  • ye and 90% of them are cheated

  • Midori is goddess of Triple Axel.

  • I have never skated in my life so I'm purely a spectator but in this vid, I think Midori has the most beautiful jumps. She's got height, speed and a strong landing. Tonya seems to tilt the other way and some of the other landings I saw were wobbly. Midori's jumps look perfect to me.

  • Fantastic!

  • within the next 3 days I'm sure my triple axel will be perfect! it seems like just yesterday i was doing mowhachks!

  • Mao's 3A is as light as a feather.

    it's shes good point.

Yes,im agree, girls try triple axels!

  • I wouldn't dare doing triple axel in exhibitions, but Midori is so special to be able to do that!! I hope girls in the future try triple axels.

  • Midori's and Mao's are the best ones!

  • WTF at Midori Ito's mega triple axel-triple toe at 5:09!!!! O_O

  • It looks all Double Axel except for some of Ito's

  • Long live Midori and Tonya. Curse the Tonya haters. :) And I hope Kimmie makes a comeback.

  • peter50358 I don't care much for Tonya anyway because she set herself at a bad example for other figure skaters. Midori Ito is the only mature young lady. And Kimmie is a better skater than that overrated jumping bean Tonya. Why? Kimmie sets herself as a star athlete who can prove to the world that she is capable enough to be the best American figure skater. If Tonya didn't create a scenario against her competitor, Nancy Kerrigan, Nancy wouldn't become a victim.

  • i like midori's cause it's super high and isn't cheated.. also the wrap on the leg seems to work for her.

  • Where did you find videos with Kimmie's triple axels from practice?

  • Pretty soon, Elizaveta Tuktakmysheva will be added to this list.

  • I hate it how they take off on the side of their blade, I know ill get replys saying "you do one you stupid chick", but it just bugs me =/

  • @SkateboarderChick27

What's so bothering about it anyways? If they didn't take off on the side of the blade, it would've been pretty hard to get enough rotations to land the jump... just saying.

  • Comment removed

  • @audreyeatworld Technecally it would be cheated by a fourth rotation if you take off from the side of the blade, it would only be 3 1/4 rotations

  • @SkateboarderChick27 Acually, you're suppose to take off by skidding. I myself am practicing triple axel, and I was told by many coaches that we are suppose to be skidding. Many men and women skid, and a handful could even get the jump on full edge. The only way a triple axel is cheated is if it was underrotated on the landing. Skidding is encouraged by many coaches and skaters, since full edge can potentially make the jump off balance and not easy to land.

  • @filipinoICEsk8ter Wrong.

  • @welshfyr How am I wrong? It's suppose to be that way. Ask any skater who can do a triple axel.

  • The more i see this, the more how this reminds me of chun li fighting in street figher

  • Tonya Harding had the best Triple Axel ever! She had such great height, control, and speed. Almost making them look effortless. Today they just look too quick and really make the axel cheated. Tonya Harding will always be the queen of the triple axel jump!!!

  • Believe me, skating girls remain tight even after they giving birth for even 3 kids .

  • Mao is the best :)

  • Midori puts them all to shame :)

  • I am not a expert in figure skating much less a technical judge, but I do think Midori's 3A's were much more enjoyable in the sense that they seem physically impossible for a woman that small to have such power and physical strength to be able to do that

  • @adiaz1984 To see Midori jump in person! Her hight and speed and and and. I've spent many hours on the ice with different people but Midori excited me the most with her raw power!

  • Midori Ito is the only lady who has ever landed the triple Axel-triple toe-loop combination....albeit it was during a practice session during the 1992 Winter Olympic Games in Albertville...but Tiffany Chin landing it in practice way back in 1983, one can only imagine what might have been had it not had been her overly demanding Mother...

  • I love the dress at 3:00

  • Comment removed

  • @hobby09

she is Yukari Nakano, not Yuna Kim.

  • Kimmie shouldn't have gotten credit for her triple axel it was more than 1/4 turn cheated on the landing

  • what time is the highest jump

  • Тоня Хардинг прыгала так высоко, что кажется, она смогла бы выкрутить и 4А!

  • The best triple axels in the world would have:

    1. The height of Midori Ito

    2. The quick turns of Mao Asada

    3. The agressive attack of Tonya Harding

    4. The neat landings of Tiffany Chin

    +3 GOE :D

  • Yo solo tengo ojos para la sonrisa de Yukari Nakano.

  • midori and mao have the best 3A's by far!!!

  • Nigguh almost ate shit @ 1:08

  • みどり最高!到達点がほんと高いなー

  • Don't let uneducated people mislead you guys. All of midori's jumps had great height, speed, and flow. She is simply the best technical skater in womens history. Tonya had a very good triple axle as well that is better than anyone else's 3axle besides midori. I give Mao great credit for successfully doing a 3axle on multiple occasions. She has very good technique for how she does them but they do pale in comparison to Midori or Tonya's 3axle.

  • @amexred, you are spot on ^ :)

  • @amexred i'm agree for Midori Ito but not Tonya Harding ! She don't have a good technic and she's always awry !!

  • @amexred I couldn't have said it better!

  • Don't let uneducated people mislead you guys. It's spelled Axel.

  • @VAPreloads It can also be spelled Axle.... although the initiator's name was Axel. A lot of people write it Axle

  • @cleicsioluek Yep. A lot of english-speaking persons write it axle bexause of the way Axel is pronounced in english. When you hear it from a german, a french or spanish person, you understand why they never, ever, write it axle. Try it : Axe-ell (like hell, but without the "h").

    Axe-El.

That's the way they pronounce it in Norway.

Now, knowing how it has to be pronounced, you understand why "axle" is aberrant.

It's simply like "nuclear - nucular."

  • @jfluter No, it was a triple axel triple toe loop combination. Sorry, I don't know the answer to your other question!

  • @soul416 I don't think there's anything special about tonya's triple axels. But Midori Ito was the finest jumper of her time. She was so ahead of her time and she was a beautiful jumper. Back then, so few skaters could land a triple axel as beautifully as she did, let alone use it in a triple triple combo as she did in one of the clips.

  • I had no idea Tonya Harding figure skated till i watched this.

  • I find Midori Ito's 3A the best among the rest. Incredible height and ice coverage!

  • Midori Ido's 3A are huge!!

  • Was the jump combination starting at 5:26 a triple axel-triple axel combination? If not, has anyone ever landed the combination in a competition?

  • sorry but tonya hardings axels and bad landings hurt my eyes

  • @ImmaculateRecovery I agree. I don't see what the big deal is with Tonya's and Midori's 3axels. Both of them lean too much in the jumps, they aren't as high as people perceive them to be, and they have pretty shaky landings in them.

  • @soul416 Well you are clearly an idiot, because midori 3A is 100% the best female 3A of all time..... I do agree that tonya hardings 3A doesnt have the best technique, however for a women to be able to do this, it is remarkable

  • @soul416 Actually, yes they are. I've never seen or skated with Tonya, but I can say with personal experience that Midori's jumps were high and landings very solid. Scary high actually. I still can't figure out how she jumped so high!

  • Makes you wonder why more ladies don't do the triple axel. Only 6 in history have landed them and after Midori Ito and Tonya Harding 10 years went by before another lady landed one. Right now only Mao Asada ever tries them. You would think the girls today are much more athletic then 20 years ago but i guess that shows you how far ahead of the times Harding and Ito especially were.

  • I think Tonya's triple axel at 94 Nationals practice was the best!

  • it looks like Midori Ito can do quad axel ;o

  • @AliceLinnea100 How do you get that? She's got the same problem that Tonya has, the jumps are off-axis and they aren't high enough.

  • @soul416 they aren't high enough? You've got to be kidding me! Midori's jumps SOARED! So much better than the 1/2 inch off the ice quick rotationed TAs of most of the others.

  • Boy, this video makes my skating look so insignificant.... XD

    Oh well!

  • Although the video isn't very clear I think the best 3A belongs to Tiffany Chin.

Looks very pretty in the air. High, rotation is very easy and is landed very clean with room to spare. Too bad she never landed it in competition.

I have never been a fan of Midori's wrapped leg in the air. I'm glad that the Japanese seem to have stopped teaching this jump technique.

Tonya is by far the highest but she's sloppy in the air and is often out of control on the landing.

  • Mao has the most beautiful triple axel:D

  • is it just me or is tonya harding's axel at 2:20 a double? i dont think it's a triple...

  • wow! Midori Ito has the highest triple Axel jump :)

  • they are all beautiful ladies with beautiful jumps. they have earned respect.

  • And where, might I ask, is Nancy Kerrigan or Michelle Kwan?

  • @fusock

This is a video about skaters who can perform triple axels.....and that is why your 2 skaters you mention are not included.

  • @fusock This vid is for Triple Axels. Neither did them so are not included.

  • mao is the only one that makes it look easy, I tink

  • Loved Midori's triple axels. Always thought she had the most height. Especially the one at around 4:33 in this video.

  • Tonya Harding and Midori Ito are still the only female skaters to do impressive Triple Axels. Female skaters today have ZERO power in them and are totally uninteresting to watch. Sorry, but it's true!

  • @NorthEast81 You are so right. Midori and Tonya could jump as well as any of the men. I really hate the spindly little cheated 3 axels we see from the women today. Although Elizaveta Tuktamysheva does a decent one. Let's face it, women's skating has not really advanced technically since the early 90's. What jumps does Yu Na Kim do that Kristi Yamaguchi didn't do? Come to think of it, what jumps does she do that Liz Manley and Denise Bielmann didn't do in the 80's?

  • @NorthEast81 agreed.

  • The thing I liked most about Tonya's is that there was a since of reckless abandon and power about her 3axel. You never quite knew what was going to happen. Usually she was tilted in the air but somehow pulled it off. Exciting!

  • Mao Asada IS the queen of triple axels.

  • 5:30 humongous triple axel by midori ito! best angle....

  • wow the triple axel at 2:25 was HUGE!

  • Looks like the triple axel runs in the Japanese women's blood! But Midori Ito will forever be the queen of the triple axel!!!

  • ito midori is best

  • midori ido is the queen of triple axels.

  • トリプルアクセルができる時点で、みんな凄いんだけど

    贔屓目なしで見ても、やっぱり伊藤みどりのジャンプは次元が違うよね

    全選手の最後にもってきたくなくるのも分かるわ

  • Midori's 3A is just breathtaking !! Her 3A is soo high !! I bet she could even do a quad if she tried to

  • Sorry but I just must say this:

The dresses back in the 90s weren't beautiful and just maked the skaters look fat!

But I must give them, they jumped well. Not beautiful but well. Harding's axel... yeah she nailed it but was it beautiful... No! She was just a jumping machine!!!

  • Midori's Axel is always solid and stable. Even male skaters nowadays can't do that as much beautiful as her. How amazing.

  • amen to that....no man or woman, can do an axel like Midori Ito, even till now!!!! no freaking skater has the power and pretty leg position in the air...she looks almost unreal.......amazing japanese Queen of Triples,,, all triples...when you really think about it....Bow down to Midori!!! XXX

  • jfc the height midori got for her 3as was unbelievable

  • Wow! These ladies are so gifted! I love watching this over and over. Midori Ito by far has the most power.

  • Mao Asada does it beautifully, she's a really talented skater!!!

  • I love Midori Ito's 3A, her jump has a special dinamism. Mao Asada's also beautiful, but too elegant. I miss the exciting jump like Midori's.

  • this is a cool video

I think mao asada is the best ice skater

the axel jump is very dificult

But she does it easily and elegantly

    =D

  • There is something superhuman about Midori's triple Axels. Harding's were comparable and hers was a spectacular talent sadly gone wrong. I envy the rest of the ladies, who can obviously get up in the air and do the damn thing, but compared to Midori and Tonya's, theirs is a case of "3A, lite"

  • Thanks for uploading. Nobody can beat Midori's 3A. So far, Mao has the best air position and rotation.

  • Midori 3A is my favorite. I think she could have quadded if she tried.

  • i can triple axle, and i've never been figure skating in my life

  • Comment removed

  • @skatergirl3366 i can triple axel.

  • @skatergirl3366 also dont you mean * kind of, have, and before?

  • mao is best skater in the world but i dont know why yuna has more scores !!!!

i made a video about it yuna vs mao ...if you like watch in my user ara1996 ....

    ara (kurdish figure skater)

  • watch the landings, everyone has a funny one except mao, hers are much more smooth and controlled!

  • Midori jumps higest , and Mao turns quickest.

When this height and the speed are matched,

it seems to be able to do by five rotations

    in the calculation.

    Do you believe?

  • @mary0my0friends

    Not five, probably four.

  • i think kimmie was pretty good because at her age i think its pretty good

  • I like the aggressive attack Midori Ito and Tonya Harding put into their Axle. Mao has a more gentle approach to the jump (which i like too).

  • ハーディングはある意味別次元

    よくあんなメチャクチャな軸で着氷できるなぁ

  • obiettivamente l'axel sul ghiaccio ha quasi mezzo giro in meno di quello a rotelle

  • 5:30 !!!

  • Tonya Harding was the first woman to ever do a triple axel in the short program, the first woman to do two triple axels in a single competition, and the first individual to do a triple axel combination in the competition.

  • Was that tonya (praise her XD) skating in a swimsuit?? LOL

  • HAIL TO THE QUEEN OF 3A.... Midori Ito! Love her version the best!

  • @0607timgo

    watch?v=FK01mukJJe0

    Any comments on this video?

Is Plushenko a filthy cheater too?

  • i still think Tonya Harding's is the best and most dynamic

  • i like mao's 3a the best. !!

  • Midori's and Mao's trixel the best!!!

  • みどり、あんたこそが3Aqueenだよ。

    回転速度は異常なくらい速い。

    もう少し長く現役選手を続けて欲しかったよ・・・。

  • woahhh midori ito's jackeddd

  • Mao Asada has clearly the the cleanest and most solid 3A, not to mention her height and lightness is just incredible, and to be able to do a 3Aat such a joung age ( actually the joungest skater ever) is just unbelievable she makes it look soo easy. but that is probably also why she is called the tripple axel queen!! and is the skater in the world who have landed the most 3A's in competition...

  • @wsfggf Sorry But Midori Ito's triple axels were huge compared to Mao's tiny ones. And hers doesn't cover near the amount of ice as It's did.

  • @dsfddsgh mao's 3A may not cover the same amount of ice as ito's, but that is unnecessary when she has greatest height. skaters usuelly either cover alot of ice or have great height, mao just belongs to the skaters who have great height, that doesn't make hers any less better!! and if you look closely mao's 3A is smooth, solid, light but still powerful. she just has great control of her jumps, which is the reason why she is the only female skater who performs a 3A on daily basis and succeed's.

  • @wsfggf Ito's height on her triple axels were far superior to Mao's also.

  • 5:09

    …!!!!????

  • mao asada is amazing

  • Midori's is the best.

  • OMG Tonya literally flies at 2:22 ... amazing!

  • midori ito and tanya hardings triple axels are higher than lysaceks

  • quella a 2.25, quanto va in alto!!

  • one thing i like about mao asada is her great knee bend into her triple axel.

  • asians are dominating the figure skating rink all around the world! midori ito, kim yuna, mao asada, next will be the first mail dominator, John Michael Eduria, LMFAO!

  • fun to watch

  • Ito's 3A is by far the best, yes, but I think Tonya's and Mao's are both beautiful in their own ways. Tonya's forceful power is amazing, and Mao's whimsical buttery-soft 3A is also very nice. As for Kimmie--GOOD FOR HER for trying. I wish her all the best.

  • midori has the best air position

  • MIDORI!

    by far, the B E S T

  • Great video!

  • Harding and Ito....untouchable!

  • Midori Ito --> Queen of the triple axel :)

  • Midori's 3A is still unbeatable.

Height, amplitude, impeccable axis of the rotation, great flow after landing, and smile.

  • Midori Ito is incredible; she defies gravity and doesn't know when to come down. Tonya Harding's jumps are so powerful that it makes shake my head at the sad waste of an amazing skater.

  • Tonya Harding is tilted in the air almost every time and the landing is freaky and wild. She looks like she could land on her back if she tilts anymore. but she is so high in the air Midori wrapped her leg because she had so much height if she had a more closed position she would do an extra half rotation before she hit the ground. Tiffany Chin's was a revelation. The others are just passable.

  • look at the height of Midori's jumps! man, bet she could've done quads.

  • 真央ちゃんのトリプルアクセル☆☆☆☆☆です。

  • Thanks for sharing this :)

Personally, I don't think anyone ever pulled the triple off better than Midori Ito and Tonya Harding did. Their speed and strength was perfect and they had incredible jumps and they landed them cleanly.

(I can't say I ever liked Kimmy Meissner: She can barely get off the ground and cheats her landings.)

Anyway, that's just my opinion. Thanks very much for a great set of clips :)

  • i don't know what you're talking about...

i think mao asada has the most aesthetically pleasing 3A jump

and it is a PROPER 3A jump,

    count the rotations...

  • @mojamonsteress she just has a terrible posture going into the jump..

  • @mojamonsteress there's too much pre/under-rotation in her jumps...

  • Great video! Who sings that song? I looked it up on iTunes under "Baby I love you" and could not find this version.

  • No comparison here - the best two are clearly Midori Ito & Tonya Harding.

  • Midori Ito has the best triple axel

  • @alleon76 agreed

  • @alleon76 yes! And Midori was the only PROFESSIONAL female skater to ever do a triple axel in competition! :-)

  • i like how Midori always has a smile on when she lands :]

  • No woman has ever landed a triple axel higher than Midori Ito.

  • Tonya Harding could have been great. She may have even been better than Nancy Kerrigan. But she ruined it with that whole fiasco. She didn't need to do that.

  • Congratulations for putting together a terrific video. The triple axel is the ultimate jump and it takes a tough skater to execute it properly. I also loved your choice of music for this. Ronnie was a tough and strong role model and singer in her day. My personal favorite is Tanya if only because she was the first and showed that a woman could do this jump in competition.
